After months of speculation, Nintendo has finally confirmed that it plans to reveal the next-gen console, the Switch 2, soon. This would mark nearly a decade since the first one debuted, and it has finally reached the end of its cycle after massive success.
Why it matters: This announcement marks the first time Nintendo has officially acknowledged its new hardware. Therefore, an official reveal event may be much closer than anticipated.
This statement comes directly from the Nintendo president, Shuntaro Furukawa. The president did not have much to say about the Nintendo Switch 2. However, he gave fans a rough reveal window to look forward to.
We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year.

Since Nintendo’s fiscal year ends in March 2025, an announcement will be made in Q1 2025 at the latest. Moreover, a Nintendo Direct has been announced for June, but this showcase will not talk about the new hardware.
The company intends to focus on its gaming lineup for 2024 during this Direct, revealing more first-party and third-party titles.
Elsewhere, the financial report confirmed that Nintendo’s current-gen Switch has sold more than 141 million units. This puts it one step closer to the PS2’s record of 160 million lifetime sales.
Nintendo hasn’t mentioned an explicit date as to when the console will be revealed.
Still, various reports have already pointed to an early 2025 release. Other reports have pointed to a huge leap in performance, with the Nintendo Switch 2 achieving PS4-like results thanks to DLSS.
