After analyzing their technical details, it’s time to compare the RTX 4070 and RX 6700 XT. The next stage is to rigorously evaluate the performance of both graphics cards using modern games. We aim to conduct comprehensive testing to determine which comes out on top.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

• Assassin’s Creed Odyssey had an average framerate of 50 FPS on the RX 6700 XT, which was around 16.5% lower than the 59 FPS of the RTX 4070.
• Additionally, the RTX 4070 performs inferior to the RX 6700 XT in terms of 1% lows, with a significant difference of 14.2%, as it scores 39 FPS compared to 45 FPS by the latter.

Borderlands 3

• With a remarkable 35% increase in average FPS during our gameplay of Borderlands 3, the RTX 4070 outshines the RX 6700 XT, producing a stunning 57 FPS compared to the RX 6700 XT’s 40 FPS.
• In addition, the RTX 4070 surpasses the RX 6700 XT in 1% lows with a considerable difference of 10.5%, delivering a score of 30 FPS compared to 27 FPS by the RX 6700 XT.

Call Of Duty Modern Warfare II

• Testing COD MW II showed us an average framerate of 48 FPS on the 4070, which was 13.3% higher than the 42 FPS average supplied by RX 6700 XT.
• Additionally, the RTX 4070 shows superior performance over the RX 6700 XT in 1% lows with a significant difference of 17.7%, where it records 43 FPS as compared to 36 FPS by the RX 6700 XT.

Cyberpunk 2077

• The average framerate of the RTX 4070 was 82% higher than its rival in Cyberpunk 2077, with an average of 29 FPS over the 12 FPS of AMD’s RX 6700 XT.
• Moreover, regarding 1% lows, the RTX 4070 outperforms the RX 6700 XT with a substantial difference of 94.1%, scoring 25 FPS, while the RX 6700 XT only manages to achieve 9 FPS.

Days Gone

• The world of Days Gone was rendered at 49 FPS with the RX 6700 XT in our testing, which was 33.8% lower than the 69 FPS that the Nvidia card supplied.
• In addition, the RTX 4070 showcases a better performance than the RX 6700 XT in 1% lows, with a significant difference of 30.1%, exhibiting 42 FPS versus 31 FPS by the RX 6700 XT.

Forza Horizon 5

• This racing sim ran at an average of 71 FPS on the RTX 4070, whereas the RX 6700 XT saw an average framerate of 51 FPS, which comes out to a disparity of 32.7%.
• The RTX 4070 performs better than the RX 6700 XT in 1% lows, with a substantial difference of 31%, achieving 64 FPS instead of 46 FPS by the RX 6700 XT.

GTA 5

• This classic game had an average framerate of 66 FPS on the RX 6700 XT, whereas the RTX 4070 had a 15.3% higher average of around 77 FPS in our testing.
• Moreover, the RTX 4070 showcases superior performance over the RX 6700 XT in 1% lows, with a considerable difference of 69.5%, recording 62 FPS compared to 30 FPS by the RX 6700 XT.

The Witcher 3 Next Gen

• Testing The Witcher 3 Next Gen on the RTX 4070 gave us an average framerate of 34 FPS, which was much more playable than the 19 FPS of the AMD card. This accounts for a difference of 56%.
• Furthermore, the RTX 4070 outperforms the RX 6700 XT in 1% lows with a significant difference of 50%, delivering a score of 30 FPS as compared to 18 FPS by the RX 6700 XT.

Overall Gaming Performance

Average Framerate

Our tests showed that the Radeon card had around 30% lower framerates compared to the RTX 4070, with the framerates being lower than 60 FPS on average. This cements that not all modern games can be run on the RX 6700 XT with the highest settings with a comfortable framerate.

1% Lows

The RTX 4070 also had framerates that were around 36% higher than its rival when it came to the 1% lows, with even the RTX 4070 dipping below 60 FPS in hard-to-render scenes.

All this discussion proves that the RTX 4070 has the upper hand when it comes to performance, though neither is great for 4k.

Average Power Consumption

With Nvidia’s insistence on having the best performance per watt, the RTX 4070 came out with a power consumption 5.1% lower on average than the RX 6700 XT. The higher performance and the lower power consumption solidifies Nvidia’s claims.

Temperatures

In conclusion, the RTX 4070’s temperatures were found to be 11.5% higher than those of the RX 6700 XT during our testing. Neither card had alarming temperatures, though, with quite a bit of room on both for overclocking in the future.

Pricing And Availability

The RTX 4070 is double the price of the RX 6700 XT, which gives it a horrible price-to-performance ratio when compared to the AMD card. Additionally, the Radeon card can be gotten on the used market for even less than the price mentioned here.

RX 6700 XT Vs RTX 4070: Which One Would We Recommend?

AMD RX 6700 XT: Our testing showed that the RX 6700 XT ran significantly cooler than the Nvidia card. In other aspects, the card falls short. However, its price is significantly lower, making it a good budget option.

Nvidia RTX 4070: Our tests showed that the RTX 4070 had better performance coupled with a lower power draw compared to its rival. The biggest drawback of this card is its higher price tag, but in most other aspects is better.

According to our tests, it is obvious that the RTX 4070 is the better card of the two, but it has a significantly worse price to performance compared to the RX 6700 XT.
