How To Improve Building In Fortnite And Edit Faster

Story Highlight
  • Fortnite’s building gameplay makes it unique compared to other shooting games on the market.
  • Improving at building requires consistency and understanding of the mechanics.
  • Taking care of elements like keybinds, edit patterns, and in-game awareness can make all the difference when starting out in Fortnite.

Fortnite has managed to stay relevant for nearly a full decade at this point. Thanks to its seasonal updates, exciting crossovers, and enjoyable gameplay, which is defined by the building mechanics.

Building in Fortnite sets the game apart from the rest. The exhilarating feeling of coming up with huge structures with perfect execution is unlike anything else, and it can give those with mastery over the system a huge edge over everyone else.

More importantly, understanding building makes Fortnite significantly more fun than the vanilla experience. Whether grinding competitive matches on primary accounts or practicing builds on secondary Fortnite accounts, edit speed directly determines combat effectiveness and fight outcomes in the game.

Why it matters: Fortnite’s builds make for a huge skill gap within the battle-royale title, giving the best of the best the ability to dominate the competition.

Working On Speed

Ninties Fortnite
Building Was A Big Innovation (GIF From Amino Apps)

For starters, I recommend working on minimizing input delay where possible, which means identifying potential sources of delay, like the keyboard, mouse, monitor, and more.

Next, it’s important to quickly select the edit tiles since efficiency is key to staying above the competition when it comes to building in Fortnite. Also, confirming edits is crucial, so players need not hesitate after having made a key decision.

Optimizing Keybinds

As is the case with most games, I believe having the right keybinds is the first step to attaining precision and inhuman speeds.

Therefore, the prerequisite for fast building is being comfortable with editing. Keys like “E, Left Shift, or Mouse Buttons” typically work best here. Instant confirms can further add to these binds and ensure the same key is used for edits and confirms.

Elsewhere, the reset edit needs to always be accessible, so a key like “R” or “C” is commonly used. And finally, walls, floors, ramps, and cones should always be available on hand, so key binds for these building tools should be carefully thought out.

Developing Muscle Memory

Practice makes perfect, and building in Fortnite is no different. In fact, setting a daily practice target can lead to huge improvements gradually that often compound with time.

For instance, it’s a good idea to practice daily for 10-15 minutes. Sticking to a set routine for a week or two should not only lead to faster building, but it should also make the process much easier.

Once muscle memory begins to build up, practicing speed is no longer a challenge. This is something I’ve already used for other games, so I can vouch for its effectiveness across a range of titles.

Also, it’s important to practice match-specific situations. This is where Creative mode comes into play.

Common Edit Patterns

Fortnite Live Events
Fortnite Live Events Make The Title Unique

As always, it’s a good idea to begin with the basics when getting to grips with building in Fortnite. For Wall edits, the Door edit is commonly used for entry points, while Window edits make it easy to peek and shoot.

On the other hand, Ramp edits are used to outmaneuver opponents with Side jumps, Full ramps, and Half ramps offering unique applications depending on the scenario. Others like Cone and Floor edits are similarly useful, so it’s important to cover all the basics to make the most of Fortnite’s building mechanics.

In-Game Application

Practice is always gratifying, but it will be of little use if in-game results don’t live up to expectations. This is why taking care of things like awareness for the in-game building application is critical.

Understanding the difference between aggressive and defensive edits is equally noteworthy since it can be the difference between survival and death in a close encounter.

Of course, there’s a lot more to mastering Fortnite’s building. Things like learning from streamers and pro players, upgrading hardware as time goes on, and even eliminating weak points like a faulty internet connection can all make a huge difference to the moment-to-moment gameplay.

Kojima Productions Says Decima Engine Enables Things “Difficult to Achieve Elsewhere”

Story Highlight
  • Kojima Productions says that the Decima Engine is irreplaceable for them.
  • It enables them to do things they couldn’t do anywhere else.
  • Now, Sony is looking to expand Decima’s use to more internal studios and possibly even outsourcing it.

Death Stranding 2 is arguably one of the best-looking games ever made, even making it hard for people to tell it apart from real life. Mostly, these visuals are credited to the Decima Engine, SIE’s proprietary game engine, one of the best out there.

Even Kojima Productions thinks so. In fact, in a new interview, a studio representative thinks that what they’ve managed to achieve with the Death Stranding games just couldn’t be possible without the Decima Engine.

Why it matters: Initially created for the Horizon games, the Decima Engine has now been expanded for use outside of Guerrilla Games, and fortunately so, since such a great platform isn’t going to waste just being restricted to a single IP.

People Used Death Stranding 2 Characters To Bypass Age Verification

Speaking with Automaton, Kojima Productions chief technology officer Akio Sakamoto spoke in detail regarding their use of the Decima Engine. When asked for the studio’s impressions of the game engine and how it has changed over time, Akio Sakamoto responded with the following:

It has now been nearly ten years since we began using the engine. While no engine is the best choice in every scenario, Decima enables us to accomplish many things that would be difficult to achieve elsewhere.

For reference, Death Stranding 2 deploys nearly 25 million polygons, and even so, the game’s framerates are stable. This just couldn’t be possible without technical setbacks with any other engine, e.g., Unreal Engine 5.

Furthermore, the game’s visuals were based on real-life locations, and Decima did the best to recreate them. Kojima Productions had also made plenty of customizations to the engine and added new features to them, which are now incorporated into Guerilla Games’ future project(s).

The best part about Decima Engine is that it achieves this visual fidelity without requiring features like Ray Tracing or Nanite. This makes it a less bloated engine compared to Unreal Engine 5, which fans claim is inferior to Decima.

Now, more of PlayStation’s first-party studios plan on using the Decima Engine. For starters, Days Gone developers Bend Studios will be deploying this engine for their next title. Beyond, SIE is also looking to outsource Decima, which can, in the future, give strong competition to Unreal Engine.

Rumored Witcher 3 DLC May Introduce a New Region, Potentially Expanding Velen

Story Highlight
  • The rumored Witcher 3 DLC takes place near Velen, not Zerrikania.
  • It will bridge the story between The Witcher 3 and 4.
  • With a May launch, it will also kick off marketing for The Witcher 4.

The 11-year-old Witcher 3 is set to receive a new DLC after all these years, at least that’s what multiple reports have suggested. While we await official confirmation from CD Projekt Red on these expansions, rumors have been swirling, revealing more details about the project.

A known Polish insider has shared additional details about this DLC, stating that it will introduce a new region related to Velen. At the same time, he refuted earlier claims that the DLC would take fans to the Zerrikanian realm.

Why it matters: It’s been nearly a decade since fans saw the last of new Witcher story content. The next entry is still a couple of years away, so this DLC might be a good way to satiate fans’ hunger while they await what CD Projekt Red has next to offer.

UV o grach, a former Polish Journalist recently discussed the upcoming Witcher 3 DLC in his livestream. He stated that he hadn’t heard of the expansion taking place in Zerrikania. Instead, he says he’s heard of several regions, but he believes it would be somewhere around Velen and the northern Kingdom.

In the base game, Velen was shown to be a no-man’s land, the same area where the Bloody Baron quest takes place. It’ll be exciting to see what journey CD Projekt Red has to offer for fans in this region.

The Bloody Baron Quest Is One Of The Most Memorable Ones In Gaming History

Other details on this expansion are that it will tie The Witcher 3’s story to the 4th entry, possibly sending off Geralt as the protagonist and Ciri taking the helm. As such, expect this expansion to be focused on these 2 characters.

With a release set for May 2026, CD Projekt Red will also kick off marketing for The Witcher 4, on which they reportedly plan to spend at least a few hundred million dollars, making it one of the most expensive video games of all time.

Crimson Desert Could Be The GOTY If GTA 6 Doesn’t Deliver, Claims Former RDR2 Dev

Story Highlight
  • Crimson Desert is shaping up to be a mega hit with the launch almost a month away.
  • A former RDR2 dev says it could potentially be the GOTY, if GTA 6 drops the ball.
  • Hype for GTA 6 is through the roof, but there is also skepticism if it’ll deliver.

Crimson Desert is among the most anticipated releases of 2026, and from whatever we’ve heard or seen of it so far, it’s looking really promising. But, in a year where GTA 6 also launches, can it stand out even more?

A former Red Dead Redemption 2 developer certainly thinks so, and claims that if GTA 6 doesn’t deliver all the hype around it, Crimson Desert will likely be crowned the Game of the Year, which is a huge compliment

Why it matters: Crimson Desert seems like a mix of everything good about legendary RPGs combined into one, which screams a recipe for success, but GTA 6 is supposed to be the biggest gaming event of the decade.

Now, expectations from GTA 6 are through the roof, and based on Rockstar’s history, it will likely be great. But there is always a slight chance with modern releases that they might miss the mark, and it’s the same for the title.

This [Crimson Desert] could be Game of the Year, if GTA 6 drops the ball. If GTA 6 wasn’t here at all this year, this would probably take GOTY, from what it looks like.

In that event, former Senior Animator on Red Dead 2, Mike York, believes that Crimson Desert would be the GOTY for 2026. He praised the game’s attention to detail, environments, and gameplay.

Crimson Desert
Crimson Desert is brimming with potential

York further says that it feels like a game catered towards Red Dead fans. However, while the world and mechanics look great, it will be seen if the single-player story complements those or not when it releases in March.

Yes, Crimson Desert is shaping up to be a hit, but it’ll have a lot to prove as it launches in a stacked year with releases like GTA 6, Resident Evil Requiem, Marvel’s Wolverine, Fable reboot, and many more.

Phison CEO Warns That DRAM And NAND Shortage Could Continue Beyond 2030

Story Highlight
  • Reports suggested that the memory shortage could be resolved by 2027 or 2028.
  • Phison’s CEO has warned that the situation is worse and it could extend beyond 2030.
  • He says it will lead to many consumer electronics companies going bankrupt this year.

If you were hoping that the memory situation would get better soon, there’s some really bad news. Previous reports suggested that the crisis would be over by 2028 when the supply meets the demand, but that seems unlikely now.

Phison CEO has warned that the demand for AI won’t be over any time soon, and estimates suggest that the DRAM and NAND shortage could extend beyond 2030, and even potentially for a decade, with no end in sight.

Why it matters: Regular consumers have had the biggest effect from these shortages as PC components now cost multiple times more than they used to, and this series of unfortunate events is expected to continue longer.

Memory Shortage
The DRAM and NAND shortage could extend well beyond 2030

In an interview, Phison CEO Pan Chien-Cheng revealed that the crisis could continue beyond 2030 and even more. Foundries are demanding 3 years of prepaid payment, with the seller’s market at an all-time high.

Internal estimates from foundries suggest shortages will persist until 2030, or even potentially for a decade with no end in sight.

As the demand continues to persist, the shortage will last. He even stated that due to this, many consumer electronics companies are expected to go bankrupt or completely shut down by this or the next year.

DRAM NAND price increase
Prices have already skyrocketed to never-before-seen highs

There have been reports that major manufacturers are expanding their production lines, but according to Chien-Cheng’s statement, even with the increased capacity, they are unlikely to meet the global demand.

Amid all this, Chinese manufacturers like CXMT are a ray of hope, considering their huge production capacities. But it’ll take them time to break into the mainstream market, which could even take years.

Valve Confirms Steam Deck OLED Shortage Is Due To The AI-Led Memory Crisis

Story Highlight
  • Steam Deck OLED is facing a shortage and could soon be out-of-stock in some regions.
  • Valve has confirmed that the supply issue is due to the memory and storage shortages.
  • The company already quietly discontinued the base LCD screen version in December.

The memory crisis doesn’t seem to be getting better any time soon, and it’s affecting more products on the way. The latest to be affected are gaming handhelds, as Valve has revealed a worrying situation at its end, too.

Valve has confirmed that the Steam Deck OLED could be completely out of stock intermittently due to the ongoing memory and storage shortages. This is on top of the company already ending the LCD variant’s production

Why it matters: The AI boom has been a disaster, especially for gaming. Steam Deck OLED, despite being a bit outdated, is still a great bang for the buck, but gamers will now have to struggle to look for one as well.

Steam Deck Shortage
Steam Deck OLED is facing stock issues due to the memory shortage

If you go to the official Steam Deck page, there is a note that states that the memory crisis will lead to stock issues with the Steam Deck OLED. It also reaffirms the discontinued status of the base variant.

This is hardly surprising based on the circumstances. Valve recently announced a small delay with its new hardware, the Steam Machine, as well. It’s still launching this year, but the crisis could push its price to around $1000

Steam Deck OLED
Finding a Steam Deck in stock will be a huge struggle now

Analysts predict that the demand and supply will only improve in 2027, with chances that it could continue into 2028. Nonetheless, for gamers, this continues to be a nuisance, as PC gaming never cost this high before.

Ori Dev Slams Gaming’s Generic State Despite Talent, Cites Highguard As An Example

Story Highlight
  • Ori’s dev recently took to social media to complain about the industry’s homogeneous, stale state.
  • He cited Highguard as an example, noting that the game looks artistically similar to the 14-year-old Halo 4.
  • As per the dev, technical fidelity keeps increasing, but artistically, games have been lagging.

Highguard came in and went just like any other live-service hero shooter, which was pretty expected ever since the game was revealed at The Game Awards. It was the event that gave this title such exposure, but unfortunately, that same exposure backfired on the devs, Wildlife Entertainment.

What the devs claim the game to be, that “can’t be find anywhere else,” is slammed for being generic and boring by players. Amidst this situation, Ori’s dev has also joined in the conversation, sharing their two cents on the current ‘generic’ state of the industry.

Why it matters: Video games used to be passionate, but unfortunately, devs have now lost that plot and the creativity. Highguard seems to be another example of slop plaguing the industry.

Moon Studios CEO Complaining How The Industry Has Stalled || X

Thomas Mahler, CEO of Moon Studios, discussed broadly what’s wrong with the gaming industry in recent times, stating that despite having talented employees and amazing concept art, the end result just doesn’t hold up.

He later cited Highguard as an example, calling it a generic title. Further explaining his point, he claimed that comparing this new hero shooter to the 14-year-old Halo 4 shows no artistic difference, only improved technical fidelity.

ori 2 gameplay
Ori And The Will Of The Wisps Is Artistically A Masterpiece

This point has been widely discussed over the last few years, with the latest games looking homogeneous. Mostly, Unreal Engine 5 is blamed for that, but Epic Games’ boss claims that the developers are lazy, since the platform provides a wide variety of assets and lighting that even an amateur can use to easily create a demo project.

In other news, Highguard has now lost 99% of its player base, which has also led to layoffs at Wildlife Entertainment. It’s pretty disappointing what former Respawn Entertainment devs have come to.

On the bright side, it could be another lesson for the gaming industry, but from the looks of it, they just don’t learn.

What are your thoughts on Thomas’ remarks? Do you agree with his points? Let us know in the comments below, or at the official Tech4Gamers Forums.

Highguard Has Lost Around 99% of Its Players Since Launch With Over Half The Reviews Being Negative On Steam

Story Highlight
  • Highguard was dubbed as Concord 2.0 when it was revealed at The Game Awards.
  • It opened to 97K players on Steam, but has now lost 99% of that player base.
  • More than half of the reviews are negative, with most not recommending the title.

Even before its launch, Highguard was a disaster in the making. The title offered nothing special and was handed the pressure of being showcased at the final spot of The Game Awards, despite not even paying for it. It came out, and as expected, failed

Things have gone even worse as Highguard has now lost 99% of its player base on Steam since launch. Additionally, the overall reviews for the game are also “Mixed”, with half of them being negative.

Why it matters: Highguard was being dubbed as Concord 2.0, and that now seems to be materializing into a reality. The servers are still up, but the diminishing player base doesn’t point towards a promising future.

Highguard Players
Highguard has lost almost the entirety of its player base || SteamDB

People were really intrigued by Highguard as initial impressions promised a decent experience. This led to it opening with a healthy 97K CCU on Steam, which has now fallen to just barely over 1K players.

The reviews aren’t much help either, as out of 38K, over 21K are negative. Interestingly, players say that the game is fine; however, it needs more character to stand out. But there’s another thing that’s leading to bad reviews.

Highguard Reviews
User Review History For Highguard

Following this disaster, developer Wildlight Entertainment laid off a significant number of its staff after Highguard bombed. So, players are concerned that this is an indicator that the studio won’t be committed to the future of the title.

Anyhow, what are your thoughts on Highguard losing around 99% of its player base from launch? Let us know your opinions in the comments or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers Forum.

Surging Memory Demand Reportedly Delays PS6 as Late as 2029

Story Highlight
  • Bloomberg reports that Sony is thinking of delaying the PS6 to 2028 or 2029.
  • Nintendo is also contemplating increasing Switch 2 prices.
  • Rumoredspecs for the PS6 imply that it certainly couldn’t be priced reasonably in the current hardware climate.

The current generation of consoles will see an even longer lifecycle than usual due to the artificial inflation caused by increased memory demand by AI companies. Taking this factor into account, Sony has apparently decided to delay its plan for the next-generation consoles.

From what it seems like, the PS6 could now be released as late as 2029, and on the flip side, Nintendo is also considering increasing prices for the Switch 2 handheld.

Why it matters: Delayed hardware could ruin plans for the entire industry, but the brighter side is that the current generation will get more time to span out as the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles still feel relatively new.

ps5 pro pssr
The PS5 Pro’s PSSR Update Will Help The Console To Stretch Its Lifespan

As Bloomberg reports, people familiar with Sony Group Corp.’s plans state that the gaming giant has decided to push the next generation of PlayStation consoles by 2028 or 2029 at the latest.

Sony Group Corp. is now considering pushing back the debut of its next PlayStation console to 2028 or even 2029, according to people familiar with the company’s thinking.

Moreover, their sources at Nintendo also estimate a price hike for the Switch 2 consoles, which was pretty evident despite the company’s dire efforts to keep costs under control.

Fortunately, the current PS5 lineup will remain stable in terms of prices as Sony has also secured a sufficient memory stock to ensure a steady supply. This was necessary because console sales are expected to boom in Q4 2026, as GTA 6 launches as a timed console exclusive.

PS6 Handheld
Sony Set To Return To The Handheld Market With The Next-Generation

From what we currently know about the PS6, the console will feature around 30GB of GDDR7 memory, and in the current market, that doesn’t come cheap. Even with stable RAM prices, expect the PS6 to launch at a higher price than the standard $500 mark.

Xbox, however, seems intent on releasing the next-gen console before Sony. As per AMD, their current plans are to release the PC-console hybrid by 2027 at the earliest, considering that memory pricing doesn’t halt their plans.

Western Digital Has Run Out of HDD Supply Amid AI Demand — Prices Expected To Surge

Story Highlight
  • Western Digital has confirmed that AI companies have booked all of its HDD supply for 2026.
  • WD is one of the biggest HDD manufacturers, so this could lead to a massive shortage.
  • The upcoming shortage is expected to drive prices even higher.

The AI boom has created a really unfortunate situation in which PC component prices are surging to levels never seen before. RAM, SSDs, and GPUs have already been affected, but hard drives could soon experience massive price hikes as well.

Western Digital, one of the largest HDD manufacturers, has stated that it has run out of supply and that all orders are booked for this year. This is expected to lead to price increments with HDDs soon.

Why it matters: At this point, no PC component seems to be regularly priced. This has created a major crisis that isn’t expected to go away until demand and supply reach equilibrium.

WD HDD
WD has ran out of HDD stock amid AI demand.

In its latest Earnings Call, Western Digital CEO Irving Tan was asked about the memory situation and how it is affecting HDDs. To which he replied that all of WD’s HDD stock has been sold to AI data centers.

We’re pretty much sold out for calendar ’26. We have firm POs with our top seven customers. And we’ve also established LTAs with two of them for calendar year ’27 and one of them for calendar year ’28.

MetaMask SSD 1
Storage devices are now more expensive than ever due to high demand

The worrying sign is that the company is fully booked for 2026, but some of its agreements extend to 2027 and 2028, signalling that the shortage could last longer than expected, so things aren’t getting any better.

HDD prices have already seen a somewhat of a hike, although it isn’t as significant as SSD or RAM. However, since the largest manufacturer is fully booked for the year, we could see prices surge even higher in the future.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Graphics Won’t Be Compromised by Multiplatform Release, Say Devs

Story Highlight
  • Square Enix has dismissed any concerns regarding Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 graphically being downgraded due to the planned multiplatform launch.
  • The developers are known for making games for a high-end PC and then toning it down when porting to other platforms.
  • They’ve also praised the Xbox and Switch 2 as great platforms and noted a great reception.

Following poor sales of recent Final Fantasy titles, Square Enix decided to release Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on multiple platforms, and the results were surprisingly robust. This strong sales performance was a wake-up call for the developers who now no longer believe exclusivity to be a viable strategy.

As such, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is now being released as a multiplatform title, day one across all systems. However, launching such a demanding release on lower-end platforms like the Xbox Series S and Switch 2 would impact graphics quality, but the developers have dismissed any concerns, saying they’re still aiming for the highest bar.

Why it matters: The Switch 2 hasn’t been on the market long, but the Xbox Series S has previously been criticised for holding back developers. However, from what Square Enix is saying, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Final Fantasy 7 on Nintendo Switch 2
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Switch 2 Port Outperformed Xbox Series S

Automaton recently had the chance to sit down with Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3’s game director, Naoki Hamaguchi, and discussed the potential concern about them dialling down the visual scale for the next entry, as it will be a multiplatform launch.

Here’s what Naoki Hamaguchi had to say in response:

However, basically, just because we’ve made the FFVII Remake series multi-platform this time, the quality of the trilogy will not be diminished, and that’s not the kind of development structure we have in the first place.

This makes sense, given that Square Enix has historically developed Final Fantasy games as high-end PC titles and then scaled them down when porting to other platforms. This is why we saw such a wide range of graphical customisation across all platforms in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Nintendo Switch 2
The Developers Want A Continuation With A 4th Part

Moreover, the developers are advocates for the Xbox Series S and the Switch 2, even though most of the industry has rebuked them (at least the Xbox Series S) for being weak. That said, they did confirm that the Xbox port for Final Fantasy 7 Remake was a tough challenge, but nevertheless, an achievable one.

PS6 Won’t Utilize Full RDNA 5 GPU Architecture, Reveals Leaker

Story Highlight
  • A credible insider claims that Sony’s PS6 won’t use a full RDNA 5 GPU system.
  • Sony might be using a mixed RDNA architecture to save costs.
  • It used a similar strategy to the PS5, but the console’s efficiency made up for its performance.

Many leaks about Sony’s PS6 and its new handheld have surfaced since early last year, detailing the specifications we can expect for the next-gen console. However, many gamers also expected it to include a full RDNA 5 GPU system to achieve peak next-gen performance.

An insider now clarifies that it is not the case, as Sony is following the same strategy as the PS5 and going with a mixed architecture instead.

Why it matters: PS6 not using the full RDNA 5 GPU system is a drawback, as only some of its features would be used in the next-gen console. However, its other rumored specifications, including a Zen 6 CPU, could make up for it.

KeplerL2 claims that PlayStation 6 won't feature a full RDNA 5 GPU architecture.
KeplerL2 claims that PlayStation 6 won’t feature a full RDNA 5 GPU architecture.

Credible insider KeplerL2 mentioned the tidbit during a discussion on NeoGAF, claiming that only some RDNA 5 features would be used in PS6, rather than relying on a single architecture.

Sony is likely adopting a mixed approach to reduce costs, since the rest of the rumored PS6 specifications would already make manufacturing quite expensive. The same leaker also revealed that PS6 would feature major improvements in memory.

The console is expected to feature a Zen 6 CPU and 30GB of GDDR7 memory built from 3GB chips, while the PS6 handheld may include 24GB of LPDDR5X memory. So, cutting expenses here also makes a bit more sense.

The PS6 memory modules are based on a 160-bit bus and will deliver 11% more memory bandwidth than the PS5 Pro, reaching well over 640GB per second.

PS6 Backward Compatibility
The PS6 is also expected to have great backward compatibility.

Regardless, the next-gen Xbox is rumored to cost over $1000. Following a mixed architecture might allow Sony to lower costs enough to stay more affordable than its rival, given these specifications.

Do you think Sony will compromise on a full RDNA 5 GPU architecture for the PS6 to save costs? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
