Starfield Developer Thinks Rockstar Is A Terrible Place To Work, Question’s Their Surprising Consistency

Story Highlight
  • Starfield and former Bethesda animator Jeremy Bryant stated that Rockstar sounds like a terrible place to work.
  • The developer doesn’t like thousands of developers working without communication.
  • He also questioned how 3,000 people working on GTA 6 will be able to get results.

Since the dawn of this century, Rockstar has been delivering one generational game after another, achieving both critical and commercial success. And, without a doubt, the most anticipated game in the world right now is GTA 6, which is bound to be another hit for the publisher, barring a downright disastrous launch.

Rockstar has established a reputation for delivering high-quality games with minimal faults at launch. However, some believe that the company may not be the best place to work, particularly due to the large number of developers on staff.

Why This Matters: Rockstar’s ability to deliver such well-polished titles is a secret that could help the wider industry if revealed.

In a new interview with Kiwi Talkz, Jeremy Bryant, who worked on Starfield and Skyrim for Bethesda, stated that Rockstar doesn’t sound like the best place to work and appears to be a terrible environment.

The former Bethesda animator went on to explain that almost 1,600 developers worked on Red Dead Redemption 2, while the number is likely around 3,000 for GTA 6, which is a distressing thought for him.

How do all those people communicate and form any kind of bond at work when it’s just a random thousand people. It sounds terrible.

According to Bryant, creating a video game with a thousand people in such a claustrophobic environment without communication is beyond him and sounds awful. The ex-Bethesda employee did praise Rockstar for the amount of polish the developer puts into its products.

However, Jeremy Bryant did show surprise at these results and questioned how the publisher achieves such results with so many developers. The animator also stated that Bethesda will likely not increase its headcount while developing The Elder Scrolls 6, instead sticking with its current artists.

GTA 6 Rockstar
GTA 6 is the most anticipated game of 2025.

We don’t know how Rockstar makes things work, but the success of titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 speaks for itself. With GTA 6 also reportedly being revolutionary and in development, with 80% of the publisher’s veteran staff involved, we can expect it to deliver a similar generational result.

Assassin’s Creed Players Tired Of Non-Linear Campaigns, Want Linear Gameplay Instead

Story Highlight
  • Multiple popular posts and online sentiments suggest that Assassin’s Creed players are growing tired of the series’ non-linear campaigns.
  • Many recent AC entries have featured non-linear gameplay, which is quite unpopular with many players.
  • Fans want Ubisoft to return to linear-based campaigns to improve the storytelling and character development in AC titles.

The early Assassin’s Creed games quickly became a staple among gamers, but the same can’t be said for the recent entries in the franchise. According to players, the earlier titles featured better storytelling and well-written characters compared to the newer ones.

Now, AC players across various forums and social media posts argue that the main culprit behind the drop-off in quality is the new story structure used in recent releases. These players have grown tired of non-linear campaigns and want linear gameplay instead.

Why it matters: Assassin’s Creed players argue that the series’ most recent titles feature good first acts, but the storytelling heavily drops off as soon as the non-linear gameplay segment starts. AC Shadows was also criticized for this reason.

Many players across these threads have agreed that non-linear campaigns in Assassin’s Creed result in a bland experience. The world and the story stagnate as the protagonist hunts targets across the map, following the same repetitive gameplay loop.

This is quite different from earlier Assassin’s Creed games, which featured memorable characters and a linear story that naturally developed the world and relationships.

The aftermath of Ubisoft’s new story structure can also be seen in AC Shadows, where the game’s first act features solid character introductions and a strong call to action. Still, the story suffers a decline as soon as the non-linear gameplay fully opens up in the second act.

Assassin's Creed Shadows
Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Naoe’s actress had no idea what the series was before getting the role.

As a result, only 2.6% of Steam players and 5.9% of PS5 players finished the second act before dropping the game entirely.

Do you think the modern Assassin’s Creed games are lackluster because of the RPG genre, or is the non-linear gameplay the real culprit here? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Fans Have Started Review Bombing The Last of Us Season 2 After Episode 2

Story Highlight
  • The Last of Us season 2, episode 2, has just dropped, and fans are review-bombing it.
  • The game exhibited a similar trend, as it was criticized for its questionable story choices.
  • The show is also under fire for unreasonable castings, especially for Ellie and Abby.

The Last of Us season 2 episode 2 just dropped, and fans don’t seem to like it that much. The show began with a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating of over 96%, with fans and critics calling it the best game TV adaptation of all time.

Now, after the second episode, while the critics’ rating is still relatively high, The Last of Us episode 2 is facing a massive review bombing, which has led to a significant drop in the rating to just 53%.

Why it matters: Fans were already quite skeptical about the casting choices in the TV show, but the new episode has somehow led them to review bomb it, marking a significant dip in the review score.

The Last of Us Season 2 is getting review-bombed by the audience

On Rotten Tomatoes, the rating for The Last of Us Season 2, which initially received a perfect score for the first episode, has now fallen to just over 50%. There are multiple reasons for the fall, but it is also related to a specific event that occurs.

When The Last of Us Part 2 released, it also saw a similar trend. Fans weren’t pleased with some of the storyline choices, which led to a significant amount of negative feedback. However, the game still won record game awards for its time.

The show was already under fire for questionable casting choices

The show primarily follows the same plot line, but fans also raised a lot of eyebrows with the casting, especially for Ellie and Abby. Larger criticism centers around Abby, where Kaitlyn Dever doesn’t resemble her game counterpart at all.

Lords Of The Fallen Gets Massive Player Surge After New Patch, Studio Will Break Even Soon

Story Highlight
  • Lords of the Fallen saw a massive surge in players due to a new update last week.
  • The game now has over 10K concurrent players on Steam, rising from a mere 500.
  • Its success is helping CI Games break even, according to the CEO.

Lords of the Fallen had challenges to navigate two years ago, and despite several hurdles, it turned out to be a decent RPG and grabbed a hefty piece of the pie by making $100 million. As it turns out, the game is still making waves 2 years after release, thanks to a new update.

Why it matters: AAA games from smaller studios enjoying success are a good sign for the gaming industry.

Recently, Lords of the Fallen received a massive 2.0 update that overhauled numerous aspects of the game. And, because of the large-scale changes, the RPG from Hexworks hit a peak of 11,647 on Steam in the last 24 hours, which is over 20 times more than the 544 users it had before the update came out.

The CEO of publisher CI Games, Marek Tyminski, also noticed this trend and posted on X about the increase in players, thanking the fans for sticking by the game even 18 months after launch, saying it meant everything to him and the team.

Tyminski also stated that due to this new upheaval in sales, the studio will break even in the near future. Hence, Lords of the Fallen has again helped its developers out of a difficult spot in a very challenging industry climate.

Lords of the Fallen
A sequel to Lords of the Fallen is reportedly releasing next year.

The game also generated significant revenue upon its initial release, selling a million copies in just 10 days, despite receiving numerous negative reviews on Steam. Furthermore, Lords of the Fallen has generated over $60 million in revenue as of last year, and this number is expected to increase further with the update and the forthcoming sequel.

Renders From The Canceled Tomb Raider Anniversary Remake Have Leaked

Story Highlight
  • A remake of Tomb Raider Anniversary was once in development by Crystal Dynamics and Virtuos Shanghai.
  • Renders from the scrapped project have now been leaked.
  • The remake was canceled due to engine complications or other reasons.

The Tomb Raider series is one of the most well-known IPs in the gaming industry. Dating back to 1996, the series has undergone various iterations, but the original rendition of Lara Croft remains the best.

The original Tomb Raider had already received a remake, titled Tomb Raider Anniversary, in 2007. However, being over a decade old, that title was outdated too in terms of visuals.

The latest report confirms that a remake of Tomb Raider Anniversary was once in development, alongside renders of assets that originated from a playable build.

Why it matters: Being one of the most iconic action-adventure games, it’s disappointing to see that a Tomb Raider remake was scrapped. It would’ve introduced a whole new generation to the original iteration of Lara Croft.

View post on imgur.com

Renders featuring Lara Croft in her iconic Tomb Raider costume, alongside a few enemies and level design, were recently leaked on Archive.org. The assets leaked were from the first playable build for the game being developed by Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with Virtuos Shanghai.

The renders were from an early development stage that would’ve received a more modern touch in terms of quality later.

According to the leak, the initial plan was for a simple port of the original Tomb Raider game for Xbox One and other modern platforms. However, a later decision involved merging Tomb Raider Anniversary and The Rise Of The Tomb Raider engine to create a more modern-day experience.

First Look At The New Tomb Raider Game Expected Soon

The final result would be more than just a remaster, but not exactly a complete remake. However, the project was later scrapped due to possible complications merging the engine or other reasons.

Currently, Virtous is reportedly working on an Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake while Crystal Dynamics is fully engaged in another reboot of Tomb Raider

A New PlayStation Showcase Might Be Around The Corner After Two Years, Insider Teases

Story Highlight
  • An insider claims that a new PlayStation event is just around the corner, with more info coming in a week or two.
  • Multiple other rumors have also clarified that a PlayStation Showcase is expected for this summer.
  • The showcase event might reveal projects like Bungie’s Gummy Bears, Fairgame$, Marvel’s Wolverine, and more.

Many gamers have argued that the current announced PlayStation roster is not as expansive as it should be so late into the PS5 generation. However, that might be about to change pretty soon because rumors suggest that a new PlayStation showcase is not far off.

An insider now claims that a new PlayStation event is right on the horizon, and details about it will be secured in the next couple of weeks. Fans argue that this show is the highly rumored PlayStation Showcase event, which last took place in May 2023.

Why it matters: Gamers in the Sony ecosystem argue that it is about time PlayStation gets a new showcase, with a more expansive and interesting portfolio than what is usually shown during the smaller State of Play events.

The insider Detective Seeds says a new PlayStation event is right around the corner.

The insider @DetectiveSeeds clarifies that a PlayStation ‘show’ is brewing, which has sparked a plethora of rumors in the gaming scene. However, the track record of the insider is questionable at the moment, but multiple other rumors also align with his words.

Before this rumor began, the popular gaming news aggregator @mrPyo1 also exclaimed ‘PlayStation Showcase’ on Twitter earlier today. Additionally, the credible insider Jeff Grubb teased that Sony wants to do a PlayStation Showcase for summer 2025 earlier this year.

These reports have caused many fans to speculate that a new PlayStation showcase is right around the corner, and we might see it happen in May or June this year.

A popular Twitter gaming news aggregator has also teased a PlayStation Showcase.

The PlayStation Showcase event is expected to feature Bungie’s Gummy Bears and Marathon, Returnal studio’s Project Saros, Ghost of Yotei, Fairgame$, Marvel’s Wolverine, and potentially many unannounced titles.

Do you think Sony will hold a new PlayStation showcase after keeping fans waiting for the last two years, or will it be another small State of Play? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Cyberpunk 2077 Is The First Game Confirmed To Use DLSS On Switch 2

Story Highlight
  • Cyberpunk 2077 appears to be the first game confirmed to utilize DLSS on the Switch 2.
  • Nintendo has been undermining DLSS in the handheld’s marketing thus far.
  • The reason could be that the upscaling technology is too costly for the Switch 2.

One of the reasons the Nintendo Switch 2 is so expensive is its high-end hardware, which aims to compete in the AAA market. Even with a $450 price tag, the handheld is pitted against the PS4 in terms of capabilities, which came underwhelming to many.

However, the Switch 2 is enabled with Nvidia’s DLSS and Ray Tracing technologies. Now, Cyberpunk 2077 is the first Switch 2 title to utilize the upscaling technology.

Why it matters: DLSS is a game-changer, especially for handheld consoles, and will allow the extension of the Switch 2’s life.

Assassin's Creed Shadows
More AAA Games Like Assassin’s Creed Shadows Expected To Release On Switch 2

Digital Foundry has seemingly confirmed the use of DLSS in Cyberpunk 2077 in their latest video, which is locked behind a Patreon subscription. Further details are unknown until the video is unlocked for the public.

The analysts recently also had the chance to get hands-on with Cyberpunk 2077 on the Switch 2 console. While the port is still being optimised, it runs on 30 FPS with resolutions ranging from 540p to 1080p.

Nevertheless, the performance metrics were pretty satisfactory, and reports didn’t reveal any usage of DLSS. That could be incorrect, though, as the Switch 2 is likely using a lite version of the upscaling technology, as indicated by a previous patent hinting at such.

Nintendo Switch 2 Nvidia DLSS
The Switch 2 DLSS is Previously Reported To Be Held Back By Its Hardware

There’s also no denying that using DLSS is quite taxing for the Switch 2’s hardware. Considering that Cyberpunk 2077 was running without any upscaling, it’s clear the system was already being pushed to its limits. The handheld struggled to maintain even 30FPS at 540p in some cases.

Implementing DLSS in such a scenario would likely result in a noticeable performance hit. Since no hardware power was left unused in the native run, adding upscaling on top could worsen frame times and overall stability.

Bungie Leadership Became Nervous After Marathon Reveal And NDA Was Lifted To Shift Negative Narrative, Report Claims

Story Highlight
  • A new report claims that the Bungie leadership grew nervous after the negative reception to the Marathon reveal.
  • The studio allegedly lifted the NDA for the upcoming closed alpha tests for the game to shift the fans’ negative perception.
  • The game’s development is following a tight timetable because of a short deadline, which could be problematic for the launch.

Everyone was excited for Marathon, but fans’ perception started shifting when the original game director quit Bungie last year. Since then, many developers also left for Sony’s other projects, and the extraction shooter’s development was rumored not to be going well.

A new report now suggests that the Bungie leadership became nervous after the predominantly negative reception to the Marathon reveal. However, the studio is trying to use the upcoming closed alpha tests to combat the growing narrative.

Why it matters: The current reports and player reception suggest that Bungie’s Marathon might be in trouble even before it is out. However, the closed alpha tests will confirm how well the extraction shooter holds up.

Marathon
Players have criticized Marathon for its unique art style and generic gameplay.

As clarified by Forbes‘ Paul Tassi’s sources, the NDA has been lifted for these closed alpha tests to let players get the first deep look into Marathon after the reveal footage. Many are expected to play and stream the title for others to see online, which might shift the narrative.

Bungie expects to benefit from the players’ feedback to ensure Marathon is ready for launch after five short months. The credible Marathon reporter also suggests that open beta tests might happen near the release period in August this year.

And as rumored, Marathon will cost $40 to be in the same vein as Concord and Helldivers 2, despite the criticisms to make it an F2P experience. Paul elaborates that Bungie has no plans for that, nor is it feasible this late into development anyway.

Bungie Marathon
Many fans were hoping for a more traditional Marathon sequel instead of an extraction shooter.

If Marathon fails to impress closed alpha testers, the current negative narrative is expected to spiral out of control. Many fans also believe that the extraction shooter is expected to flop like Concord rather than achieve moderate success.

The report also mentions that Marathon is following a tight timeline because of a short launch window, which could spell disaster for its endgame content.

Do you think the upcoming closed alpha tests can shift the growing negative perception around Marathon? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Firebreak: 2025 Needed This Chaotic FPS Coop Shooter

Story Highlights
  • Firebreak brings a chaotic coop by throwing in multiple enemies in the form of zombies, guards and even large bosses.
  • It’s like playing as a hero in an action film where objects are flying around, and you probably work to take out the enemies and the fire.
  • It is made by Remedy, which has made Alan Wake, Max Payne, and Control, so they know how to make games stand out.

In a world full of sequels and remakes, Firebreak is an upcoming game that serves as a refreshing title, much needed for 2025. Its trailer has only been released, which gives a glimpse of what the game contains, and it is pure chaos.

Firebreak

Chaotic FPS

The game’s essence is zombie survival, but it does it with its twist. There is no spooky environment where you’d feel the horror. Instead, the theme seems to be chaos. This is more chaotic than Fragpunk, which is also quite absurd.

Uncontrollable AI

From the trailer, you can see there are zombies, but there are also other human enemies who shoot you. Additionally, there are zombies that are floating in the air. Combining all of these AI, it’s a massacre, and you are in constant action.

Chaotic Environment

Part of what makes this game chaotic is the environment of the game. The most notable map from the trailer is the office setting, where there are tons of sticky notes present throughout the map.

Firebreak Chaos
Chaotic Environment (Image Credits – Remedy Entertainment)

Now you can throw Molotovs on these sticky notes, destroy them using your melee weapon or even fire water bullets at them, and they’ll fly up all over the place. The aftermath appears to be like walking through a cloud of confetti.

The Visibility Is Affected

The game’s physics is such that the player’s screen is affected by the objects from their environment. For example, these flying sticky notes can get stuck on your screen, which can hinder your vision.

Firebreak Visibiliy Is Affected

Now you have to fight with the unpredictable zombies, take out the fire, all the while having a limited vision. Similarly, if you stand under a water sprinkler or in the rain, you’ll see water droplets dripping onto your screen.

Firefighters

As the name suggests, Firebreak makes use of fire a lot in the entire game. From the trailer, it appears as if we’re a bunch of firefighters whose aim is to take out the fire along with the zombies that have infested those areas.

At many instances, we can see that we’re taking out the fire using our water splashing weapon. At one instance, the player shot a sprinkler, which caused water to pour all over the ground.

Firebreak Fire Sucking Weapon

There’s even a funny weapon that appears to be sucking the fire from the evniovemnet and using that fire to warm the tea pot. There is another weapon that propels us to an elevated platform, allowing us to put out the fire in that area.

You’re Not Alone

You won’t be alone taking out the fire since it’s a coop game. Even though the game will feature cross-play multiplayer, the total number of players is unknown, and the trailer suggests that it could be a 6-player co-op game.

Firebreak 6 Players
6 Persons (Image Credits – Remedy Entertainment)

While 2025 has already gotten Split-Fiction, which has redefined the coop genre, Firebreak utilises a different approach when it comes to coop. It feels more like the new take on Left 4 Dead 2.

Interestingly, Left 4 Dead 2 was only created because its prequel was broken at its core. Firebreak seems to be built with the intention of having refinement right from the start.

Boss Fights

Not only would there be smaller enemies like the zombies and the guards, but the trailer also shows us a glimpse of a giant boss that we would be fighting. From the trailer, we can see a boss made out of sticky notes.

Firebreak Bosses
Boss Fight (Image Credits – Remedy Entertainment)

From this, we can predict that with each map, the bosses will be formed from the amalgamation of the environment. Here, sticky notes were the prominent theme, so the boss took the shape of these notes, which is a cool addition.

Made By A Great Studio

It isn’t surprising that the game looks promising considering who’s behind. It is created by Remedy Entertainment, the same developers behind Max Payne, Alan Wake, and Control.

Remedy is often underrated, as it doesn’t receive the same level of attention as other AAA studios. They do operate in the shadows of other mainstream developers, but with Firebreak, their underdog energy works in their favour.

Remedy Entertainment Games
Remedy Entertainment Games

Firebreak could act as the perfect blueprint that future games could follow since Remedy has that magical touch, which we’ve seen in their previous successful titles. This will be a mid-priced game launching later in 2025.

Elden Ring Player Beats Final Boss 10,000 Times Across Co-op Runs

Story Highlight
  • Elden Ring player “Let Me Solo Them” has killed the final boss 10,000 times.
  • The player has beaten this boss around 10 times a day since the game’s release.
  • He has also thanked the community following this milestone.

Elden Ring is FromSoftware’s biggest game, which has spawned a slew of popular online personalities. Among them, the player known as “Let Me Solo Her” is well known for his co-op runs against Malenia. The player has also inspired others to help the Elden Ring community, resulting in a passing of the torch moment of sorts.

Following Let Me Solo Her’s incredible achievements, another player following in his footsteps has achieved 10,000 victories against the game’s final boss.

Why it matters: Accomplishments like these are rare and are fondly remembered by enthusiasts of certain games.

The player in question, known as “Let Me Solo Them,” recently took to Reddit to share his achievement.

Following the journey of Let Me Solo Her, this player decided to help the Elden Ring community face off against the game’s final boss, not to be confused with the DLC’s final opponent, with the name referencing the pair of Radagon and the Elden Beast.

According to Let Me Solo Them, this journey spanned a total of three years, leading to many incredible and memorable moments. The player explained that he tracked the 10,000 milestone through rune arcs, which are awarded for defeating bosses in co-op.

Moreover, other Redditors who did the math concluded that this milestone likely required around 10 successful boss runs each day since Elden Ring’s release. Let Me Solo Them is, therefore, one of the game’s most dedicated players to date.

Elden Ring
The Elden Ring Community Is Still Thriving In 2025

FromSoftware is gearing up to release Elden Ring Nightreign later next month, and with the game’s distinct focus on co-op gameplay, perhaps more players like “Let Me Solo Her” and “Let Me Solo Them” will make a name for themselves in 2025.

Till then, however, fans can continue to celebrate the most dedicated individuals of the Elden Ring community. What are your thoughts on the player’s accomplishment? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

The RTX 5060 Seems Like Another Disaster In Making

Story Highlight
  • Nvidia giving the RTX 5060 an 8 GB VRAM makes it look like they haven’t learned from their mistakes.
  • The performance gap will not be too big, which will only make the card look mediocre.
  • The upcoming AMD 60-class GPUs might take the lead again by offering great performance like the RX 9070 series.

The launch of the RTX 50-series graphics cards has been kind of a mixed bag due to multiple reasons involving high prices, stock shortages, and problems with the cards themselves. Anyhow, now that the time for the budget cards has come, the green team isn’t looking too good yet again. Remember how the RTX 4060 was considered the worst choice in its class last generation? Well, the RTX 5060 isn’t looking too different, as Nvidia doesn’t seem to have learned much from its past experiences.

Not Enough VRAM Once Again

Nvidia is following its previous generation in terms of deciding the amount of VRAM to be given to its new 60-class GPUs. For starters, this isn’t the move they should’ve made, as the backlash for the lack of enough VRAM of the RTX 4060 was quite big. For once, I was hoping that Nvidia might finally give its budget graphics cards an optimal size of VRAM, but got thoroughly disappointed. Even the cheaper option from Intel, the ARC B580, comes with 12 GB of VRAM. However, that’s more of a similarly priced graphics card than a cheap one, as it’s still hard to find it at near MSRP.

GeForce RTX 5070
GeForce RTX 5070

While the price remains unchanged, which is great considering the ongoing tariff situation, the blunder that Nvidia has made with the VRAM capacity is just too hard to ignore. From the looks of it, Nvidia seems to be doing this on purpose to try to sell its upper-tier cards to the customers by making the lower-tier offerings look bad.

Expect Minimal Performance Improvements

The performance gap between the same class cards of different generations has been closing up very fast. For instance, the RTX 4060 was promised to be better than its predecessor; however, in reality, it was torn apart by the RTX 3060 in many tests. Sure, the RTX 5060 will likely offer superior performance over its predecessor, but the gap won’t be noticeable enough to consider a swap if you’re rocking an RTX 4060 or a similarly performing GPU. Though you can consider the upgrade if you’re coming from an RTX 2060 or below, keep the limited VRAM in mind.

Hint At Stock Shortage

Going further, the lack of support towards the reviewers also says a lot about the kind of performance this card possesses, that even Nvidia isn’t caring all that much about it. As one of the biggest media groups, Linus Tech Tips shared their concerns in a dedicated video. They talked about the poor support for scheduled reviews and outrageous claims of the card offering up to a 50x performance bump. This also hints towards a similar stock issue that other RTX 50-series cards have suffered from so far, with the most recent being the RTX 5070.

AMD Might Surprise Again

Until now, AMD seems to be the better-performing company on the GPU side, as their RX 9070 & RX 9070 XT cards have received quite a positive reception. AMD has also improved its Ray Tracing performance as well as the upscaler with the FSR4, which incorporates AI similar to DLSS to deliver stunning visuals. All these combined with what we have heard about the upcoming RX 9060 & RX 9060 XT so far make it seem like we can expect good value like its bigger brothers as soon as next month. The higher VRAM (12 GB) of the RX 9060 alone will make a big difference during gaming and other VRAM-intensive tasks against the RTX 5060.

Nvidia Has To Listen

With how poorly the RTX 4060 performed and how mixed the reception of the RTX 50-series graphics cards went, Nvidia needs to open its eyes now, as the same is about to happen with the RTX 5060. The lack of proper attention, especially to its budget-class GPUs, won’t do any good to Nvidia. They have become the Apple of the graphics card market, as whatever they make, the blind Nvidia fans will gladly buy. However, this won’t work for long; one of the reasons is that both Intel & AMD are catching up and have released cards that deliver compelling performance without being priced ridiculously.

Fans Believe Marathon Is More Likely To Flop Like Concord Than Even Reach Moderate Success

Story Highlight
  • A new poll suggests that fans have no hope in Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, as they expect it to flop like Concord.
  • Some have argued that the game will reach moderate success only and won’t be the next live-shooter hit to shake the industry.
  • The overall online sentiment is quite negative for Marathon because the fans wanted a more traditional sequel to the classic IP.

Many in the gaming scene have been waiting for Bungie’s next project after back-to-back Destiny 2 DLCs over the years. However, now that the extraction shooter, Marathon, is here, most of the player sentiment online has turned negative because of various criticisms.

Now, a new poll on social media shows that many fans believe the game is more likely to flop like Concord than reach moderate success. Very few online have claimed in defense that the game can be the next defining live-service hit.

Why it matters: Marathon already appears to be in murky waters because the majority view regarding the extraction shooter is negative, which may harm its chances of success even before it takes off.

In a NeoGAF poll, over 60% of voters believe that Marathon will flop like Concord. However, the other 39% have argued that the game will achieve moderate success with a small community, and Bungie will continue to support it with updates.

This result is the same on other forums online, with many criticizing Marathon for being a premium title in a market dominated by F2P games. Many gamers also dislike the game for its art style choices and generic gameplay.

The criticisms against Marathon are so rampant that a former Concord developer stepped in to support the developers, claiming that calling the game a failure before it’s out is wrong and players should ‘let Bungie cook.’

Marathon
Marathon has already been criticized for its allegedly stale gameplay.

Bungie has previously confirmed that Marathon will not replace Destiny 2, and the extraction shooter is also not for PvE players.

Do you think Bungie’s new extraction shooter stands a chance at succeeding as a premium game in a genre already dominated by established alternatives? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
