Nintendo Fans Angry Ghost Of Yotei Costs Less Than Mario Kart World

Story Highlight
  • Fans are angry that Mario Kart World costs more than Ghost of Yotei.
  • Despite having a higher budget, Ghost of Yotei is $10 cheaper than Mario.
  • Following this pricing structure, fans are debating the value Nintendo provides to its customers compared to others.

Nintendo recently revealed the much-anticipated Switch 2, but with the console came Mario Kart World, the first $80-priced game. While many Nintendo gamers initially seemed to be fine with it, they are now taking it less well.

PlayStation announced Ghost of Yotei’s October release with a $70 price, which has led to Nintendo fans becoming furious as to why Mario Kart World costs more than a full-fledged AAA title.

Why it matters: Nintendo’s announcement was already controversial to begin with, and Ghost of Yotei’s standard pricing has only made matters worse.

Taking to X, many Nintendo fans voiced their frustration with the company, noting that a game almost triple the scale of Mario Kart World costs $10 less than it. Moreover, future new Switch 2 releases are expected to cost the same.

Many fans feared that the $80 price would become the staple for AAA releases in the future due to this move by Nintendo. Therefore, they are glad to see Ghost of Yotei retaining the $70 price tag, even if it makes Mario Kart World seem unappealing.

Ghost of Yotei appears to have a significantly bigger budget and took years of development to bring its open world to life. Therefore, paying more for Nintendo’s offering doesn’t make much sense to the fans.

Now this is what $70 games should look like.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Boss Says Making DLCs For Games Is Boring And Without Passion

Story Highlight
  • Swen Vincke, the director of Baldur’s Gate 3, has called making DLCs boring.
  • The Larian CEO said the practice has no passion behind it, and his team is happier this way.
  • Vincke stated that Larian prefers to update games through patches instead.

Calling Baldur’s Gate 3 one of the biggest games of this decade isn’t a stretch of any kind, considering its sales and universal positive reception. To put the game’s success into context, it won so many awards that it disrupted developer Larian’s work at the studio.

However, unlike most successful games of its kind, the developer has not milked Baldur’s Gate 3 by making DLCs that many fans wanted. In a new interview, the game’s director has revealed why this is the case.

Why it matters: Studios choosing to work on new projects instead of game expansions is a positive change.

Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 has been updated through several patches.

While talking to GameSpot, Swen Vincke, the CEO of Larian and the RPG’s director, stated that the studio is not in the DLC business. Vincke further expanded on this by saying he prefers to update games through patches and other similar changes, keeping the experience fresh for players.

The Larian CEO also called the very act of making a DLC boring, saying it has no passion behind it, and his team is happier not making such expansions for games. Hence, in a moment of reflection, the studio figured out this is not what they want to do with their titles.

People said ‘DLC this’ and ‘DLC that,’ and we said we’d make DLC, but then, when we had a moment to think, we asked ourselves, ‘What are we doing?’

Baldur’s Gate 3 Sold Millions of Copies In 2023 And 2024

Even without a DLC, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been constantly updated through patches and updates, with the most recent one adding a photo mode among a myriad of other features, including new subclasses. This “Final Patch” also led to a resurgence in the game’s player count on Steam.

Considering how the game sold 10 million copies in 2023 and was still among the best-selling paid titles on Steam the next year, Larian clearly knows what it’s doing.

Oblivion Remastered Hits Over 200K Steam Players Amid Ongoing Hype

Story Highlight
  • Oblivion Remastered has reached a new milestone on Steam.
  • The game peaked at over 200K players over the weekend, slowly bringing it closer to Skyrim’s peak on the platform.
  • It is also Steam’s current best-selling paid title several days after launch.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion has returned to the forefront of gaming thanks to a dazzling remaster from Virtuos and Bethesda. With over four years of development and a complete visual makeover, this re-release puts most other remasters to shame.

Fans have also been impressed with Oblivion Remastered, which helped it attain 4 million players shortly after its release. The Steam player counts are impressive in their own right, with the game now achieving 200K concurrent players.

Why it matters: Oblivion Remastered’s peak player count is high enough to rival most mainline Bethesda releases, cementing this release as yet another success for the studio’s rich legacy.

As the RPG headed into its first weekend, it had already peaked close to 200K players. Following the weekend, this figure went as high as 205,499 players. The game has also retained its spot as the best-selling paid Steam title for nearly five days in a row.

At the time of writing, over 100K players are still active in the game, and since more players are likely to join over the weekend, there is a chance the remaster will hit another peak later today.

For context, Oblivion Game of the Year Edition from 2009 peaked at under 10K players, a fraction of the remaster’s milestone on Steam. This suggests that a large chunk of the current player base is new to the remaster.

Oblivion Remastered has surpassed 4 million players in its first week

Moreover, Skyrim peaked at 287K Steam players when it originally launched 13 years ago, making Oblivion Remastered’s success somewhat comparable to one of Bethesda’s biggest and most popular titles.

What are your thoughts on the remaster’s performance? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Cyberpunk 2077 Didn’t Have To Fight With Memory Issues On Switch 2 Unlike PS4 And Xbox One, Confirms CDPR

Story Highlight
  • CD Projekt Red’s engineer Tim Green says that Cyberpunk 2077 did not have to fight with memory issues on Switch 2.
  • The game suffered a disastrous launch on PS4 and Xbox One because of low-speed and low-capacity RAM.
  • However, the development was still full of challenges, causing CDPR to compromise where needed.

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most performance-heavy titles, so getting it to run on Switch 2 is a huge technical marvel. However, CD Projekt Red has been so confident in the game’s port that it dubbed it one of the best benchmarks for the upcoming handheld.

CD Projekt Red has now confirmed that Switch 2 provides enough memory speed and capacity for the game to run nicely. This is a far cry from the game’s disappointing launch on PS4 and Xbox One, which was largely due to their low-speed and low-capacity RAM.

Why it matters: CD Projekt Red has confirmed that it is confident with how Cyberpunk 2077 has turned out on Switch 2 compared to its disastrous launch on last-gen consoles.

Cyberpunk-Sequel-First-Person-Mode-Only
Cyberpunk 2077 has continued to stay popular throughout the years.

In an interview with Game File, CD Projekt Red’s engineer Tim Green clarifies that the studio did not have to ‘fight’ with fitting the game into Switch 2’s memory, and the high data storage speeds also made it easier for the port to be developed.

We haven’t had to fight with fitting into memory, and the speed of the data storage has helped alleviate some of those early streaming problems. This has allowed us to focus our attention on improving other things, and we’re very happy with the result.

The handheld uses 256GB of fast UFS internal storage and supports MicroSD Express cards for up to 2 TB of external storage. Additionally, the whole 64 GB game is available on the cartridge, excluding other language packs.

Development still had challenges, of course, as any development process does, but we’ve been careful in picking tradeoffs to not compromise the game’s vision.

Oblivion Remastered Retains All The Bugs And Performance Issues Of The Original, Reveals Testing

Story Highlight
  • Testing reveals that Oblivion Remastered suffers from huge performance issues.
  • It is very CPU and GPU-intensive and struggles to run even on the highest-end hardware.
  • The original Oblivion, launched in 2006, also had serious optimization problems.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is currently the talk of the town after Bethesda shadowdropped it earlier this week. While the title is doing really well in terms of numbers and reviews, it has some serious bugs and performance issues.

When the original Oblivion was released in 2006, it challenged all sorts of hardware of that time, and even struggled to run smoothly on the most powerful of systems. Oblivion Remastered carries over all those performance issues in 2025.

Why it matters: Due to constant hitches and stutters, the experience of the game becomes significantly worse, even if you have a very high-end system.

Digital Foundry has dropped its performance review for Oblivion Remastered, and it’s surprising to see how badly optimized the RPG is. Testing on an RTX 5090 paired with a Ryzen 7 9800x3D, the title still seems to struggle a lot to maintain smooth frame rates.

For context, these are the best consumer specifications you can currently get. At max setting on 1080p with DLSS enabled, Oblivion Remastered shows a lot of hitches, and the frame times are so bad that the experience ends up very frustrating.

The game is both CPU and GPU-intensive, so lower-end hardware struggles even more. With a Ryzen 5 3600, the hitching issues become so noticeable that it appears the game freezes and then resumes playing in certain areas of the map.

Oblivion Remastered shows terrible frame times even with the highest-end CPUs

The only way to make it less CPU-intensive is to turn off hardware Lumen, but then Oblivion Remastered looks significantly worse in all areas. Digital Foundry even says that it is probably the worst-running game that they have ever tested.

Judging by the analysis, it is concerning the dire state of optimization we see with current launches. Although Unreal Engine 5 delivers impressive visuals, the performance issues are so significant that they hinder the overall experience.

The Nvidia RTX 50-Series GPUs Are A Literal Ticking Time Bomb – Here’s Why

Story Highlight
  • Igor’s Lab has uncovered an alarming hardware flaw that’s common in all RTX 50 Series GPUs that causes the power delivery subsections to overheat considerably.
  • A lack of thermal conductivity in these critical areas means that your Blackwell GPUs are guaranteed to overheat, especially the lower-end variants like the RTX 5060 and 5070 GPUs which have fewer power phases.
  • Alleviating this high-temperature risk is a fairly simple job, but it does require you to dismantle your GPU, and regardless, should already be taken care of by Nvidia before shipping the GPUs in question.

Igor Wallossek of Igor’s Lab has done it again—uncovering yet another hardware flaw that Nvidia would rather sweep under the rug. A critical power delivery hotspot issue threatens to compromise the longevity and stability of these next-gen graphics cards.

If left unaddressed, this could spell disaster for early adopters and tarnish Nvidia’s reputation for reliability.

Problematic Design Language

For starters, using thermal imaging and meticulous testing, Igor’s team identified localized temperature hotspots on the PCB, specifically around the voltage regulation modules (VRMs).

In simple words, the electrical components that make up the power delivery subsystem, such as the FETs (Field Effect Transistors), coils, and drivers that work in conjunction to deliver power to the GPU’s supply rails are grouped too close together to prioritize a compact PCB design by sacrificing heat dissipation.

Speaking of the PCB, it comprises several thin layers of copper sandwiched together, which in turn are connected to numerous power planes. Collectively, this architectural design increases the thermal density around the voltage converters, fortifying the thermal efficiency burden.

Resultantly, these power delivery hotspots reach dangerously high temperatures—far beyond what’s considered safe for long-term operation.

RTX 5070 & RTX 5080: Actual Observations

To put this dilemma into perspective, Igor’s Lab pitted a PNY RTX 5070 against a Palit RTX 5080 Gaming Pro OC with the help of a thermal camera to accurately gauge temperatures where the primary NVVDDs (Nvidia Variable Video Data Decoders) are located in between the rear display outputs and the GPU die.

The RTX 5080 measured 80.5°C in this specific area whereas the GPU core itself remained stagnant at a cool 70°C.

The RTX 5080 still fares relatively well in comparison to the RTX 5070. (Image Credits - Igor's Lab)

Unfortunately, the RTX 5070 fared much worse with the NVVDDs’ temperature reaching a scalding 107.3°C due to the GPU having a sizeably shorter PCB in comparison to the RTX 5080.

What’s worse for the RTX 5070 is that all of its power delivery components are situated between the display outputs and the GPU itself as opposed to the RTX 5080 which has some of its PD components distributed throughout the right, left, and top sections of the GPU’s PCB.

Understandably, a shorter PCB means that the RTX 5070 will have fewer power phases to regulate the current through, which will obviously increase the overall current density that corresponds to higher temperatures.

The RTX 5070's hotspot can get pretty toasty. (Image Credits - Igor's Lab)

Also, it’s worth mentioning that Igor’s Lab recorded a consistent pattern here as the RTX 5070’s GPU core also sat at a cool 69.7°C, effectively isolating the problem with regards to the power delivery hotspot.

Nvidia’s AIB Guidelines: Adding Insult To Injury

What’s worse? This isn’t an isolated flaw. The problem appears to affect all RTX 50-series GPUs based on current board designs.

Thanks to Igor’s Lab’s insightful research, we can conclude that that’s because Nvidia messed up its Thermal Design Guide which serves as a central document that’s exclusively made available to the company’s AIBs (Add-In Board partners).

An exclusive screenshot of the Nvidia Thermal Design Guide that hasn't been made available to the public. (Image Credits - Igor's Lab)
An exclusive screenshot of the Nvidia Thermal Design Guide that hasn’t been made available to the public. (Image Credits – Igor’s Lab)

Assumptions of ideal thermal circumstances, the narrow-minded vision of PCB power losses, anomalous temperature-dependent behavior of components like MOSFETs, and a lack of long-term thermal aging consideration are just some of Nvidia’s oversights.

That means unless Nvidia or its board partners intervene, everyone buying these cards could be sitting on a time bomb.

Why This Matters: The Risks Of Ignoring The Issue

Excessive heat in power delivery components doesn’t just throttle performance—it kills hardware prematurely. Capacitors, MOSFETs, and PCB traces degrade faster under sustained high temperatures. Over time, this can lead to:

  • Voltage instability (crashes, black screens)
  • Solder joint degradation (cracked connections, GPU failure)
  • Reduced lifespan (a card that dies just outside warranty)

Nvidia has built its reputation on reliability, but if these hotspots go unaddressed, we could see a wave of early GPU deaths, reminiscent of the RTX 4090 melting power connector fiasco—only this time, the problem is embedded in the PCB itself.

What This Means For Gamers & Enthusiasts

If you’re planning to buy an RTX 50-series GPU at launch, beware. Until Nvidia or its partners revise the cooling design, you might be gambling with your card’s lifespan. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Wait for revised models—Early adopters often pay the price for rushed designs.
  2. Monitor hotspot temps—Tools like HWiNFO64 can track VRM and PCB temperatures.
  3. Consider aftermarket cooling—If the issue persists, third-party solutions (like high-performance thermal pads/paste like Arctic MX4) might be necessary.

Former Rockstar Dev Wants To Revive Linear Cinematic Blockbusters With Upcoming Game MindsEye

Story Highlight
  • MindsEye aims to deliver a linear and cinematic-driven gameplay.
  • Developers behind the game say that video games have stopped drawing inspiration from films.
  • The game will last around 15 hours and will be respectful of players’ time, even in their busy schedules.

While GTA 6 may still be months away, former Rockstar developers are now working on a game of their own, which will surely ease the wait till then. MindsEye is a third-person action game that, on paper, resembles GTA, but is more akin to the Max Payne series, offering a shorter narrative experience.

Set for a June 6, 2025, release, extensive details on the game are now emerging. The developer team behind MindsEye recently revealed that they aim to deliver a linear, shorter, and cinematic experience with the game.

Why it matters: One of the main reasons behind the success of games like GTA, The Last of Us, and others is their cinematic approach, which immerses players in their story.

MindsEye Will Cost $60, Unlike Most AAA Titles

Speaking to Eurogamer, Adam Whiting, assistant game director at studio BARB, stated that modern-day video games have stopped drawing inspiration from films, and that this art form has been lost.

I think there’s ways to engage an audience with a video game that you can’t necessarily do with a movie or a TV show

He also acknowledged that video games are becoming increasingly expensive to produce and that, most of the time, publishers are chasing live-service trends, leaving little room for making cinematic games.

Adam also emphasised the importance of meaningful, well-paced, and well-constructed stories in a video game that involve character development and moments of tension, which will truly respect players’ time, especially after they tune in to the game after a long workday.

Spec Ops: The Line
The 2010s Was The Golden Age For Narrative-Driven Games

This is where MindsEye comes in. The game will deliver a shorter 15-hour experience with a linear gameplay style, despite the developer earlier saying that it features a faux open world.

In an era where publishers eagerly create bloated RPGs offering hundreds of hours of gameplay to finish, MindsEye aims to take things back to the earlier days of cinematic gameplay.
