Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 director says they hired consultants for the game.
They wanted to make sure that the game wouldn’t hurt any religion or minority.
The director said he was afraid he’d be fired if the game didn’t do too well.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is one of the best releases of this year, with a massive 88 score on Metacritic. While the title received universal acclaim, it has had its fair share of controversy as well, especially for not being diverse enough.
Now, the game director says that the studio hired a bunch of different consultants so as not to offend anybody. He was afraid that the journalists would harass the team if things got too out of hand.
Why it matters: We’ve seen games face heavy criticism, especially because at times they can hurt sentiments, as was seen with Assassin’s Creed Shadows for the depiction of Japanese culture.
Talking to the Insider podcast, the Co-Founder of Warhorse Studios and Creative Director of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Daniel Vavra, stated that he was afraid to get fired due to the backlash, so they had to hire consultants to help them.
For every religion, minority, any group of people, we had consultants – we sent them the script and asked if there were any mistakes. Their advice was useful
– Daniel Vavra
He said that they had consultants for every religion, minority, and any other group of people. They were sent copies of scripts, from which they advised changes that were then made to the final version of the game.
KCD2 director wanted to make sure the game didn’t hurt any sentiments
However, even with this, the game had a lot of backlash. The situation became so bad at the start that Vavra asked people not to buy the game if they had any issues. It still was a massive success, selling over 2 million copies in just 2 weeks.

Elden Ring reaches another massive milestone.
The title has sold over 30 million copies already.
The game has sold around 1.4 million copies in just four months to reach this huge record.
Elden Ring is one of FromSoftware’s biggest releases. The title was released over three years ago and has over 430 GOTY awards, the most by any game in the industry.
While the developers confirmed that the title sold over 28.6 million copies last December, it has now reached another milestone. Elden Ring has sold over 30 million copies since its launch.
Why it matters: It’s great to see Elden Ring still selling many copies and continues to shine despite being three years old.

Just recently, the official Twitter account of Elden Ring confirmed that the title has sold over 30 million copies since its launch. The developers thank fans for helping them reach this massive success.
Dearest Tarnished, we are profoundly thankful for your lasting devotion. May your path be forever guided by the Grace of Gold.
-Elden Ring Twitter Account
Since the game sold around 28.6 million copies by the end of December, Elden Ring has sold another 1.4 million copies in just the last four months.
This is huge as the industry has seen massive releases over the last few months, but nothing could stop players from purchasing and enjoying the beautiful world of Elden Ring.
Elden Ring Nightreign Is Coming Next Month
A spin-off game named Elden Ring Nightreign was also announced during GOTY 2023. It is already the second most wish-listed game on Steam and is set to release next month.
Therefore, it appears to be a great time to be a fan of the franchise. The already existing title is reaching new success, and a new game in the franchise is also arriving soon, making 2025 a great year for fans.

Elden Ring Nightreign system requirements are quite low, recommending only a GTX 1070 8GB to run.
At a minimum, the game needs a GTX 1060 3GB or an RX 580 4GB to run.
Storage requirements are only 30 GB.
Capitalising on Elden Ring’s success, FromSoftware has moved on to a spin-off project from the same franchise, but this time taking a multiplayer approach. Focusing solely on PVE elements, Elden Ring Nightreign is set for release on May 30th next month.
The game’s system requirements have been revealed, and they’re surprisingly low. Elden Ring Nightreign recommends only a GTX 1070 8GB or a Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB to run it.
Why it matters: A 2025 game recommending a 10-year-old GPU to run the game suggests an optimized release, which isn’t quite common today.
Complete System Requirements For Elden Ring Nightreign || Source: Social Media
Moving towards the minimum system requirements, the game will run smoothly with an GTX 1060 3GB or an RX 580 4GB. Additionally, the game will only need 30GB of storage.
While the graphical presets weren’t mentioned in these specs, it’s likely that these specifications were only for a 1080p resolution setting with variable graphics settings.
Still, the game was previously shown to struggle to hit a consistent framerate of 60FPS on the PS5 Pro at a native 4K setting. The framerate usually fell in the 50 range, performing similarly to Elden Ring.
Similar to the base game, the standalone multiplayer title will also be a cross-gen release, launching on both last-generation Xbox One and PS4 consoles. As such, we can expect a similar performance for Elden Ring Nightreign as the base Elden Ring.
Still, if you’re not a fan of PvE gameplay, The Duskbloods is a PvEvP game releasing later this year. However, if multiplayer games aren’t your preference, rest assured that FromSoftware is committed to making single-player experiences and hasn’t strayed from its roots.

PlatinumGames is typically associated with single-player games, but the studio has recently shifted its focus.
Following a live-service focus, the team is hiring for an online action game.
The job listing we found also suggests that this online game will include open-world elements.
PlatinumGames needs no introduction to those familiar with Japanese action games. Famous for its work on titles like Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, Bayonetta, and more, the team is currently leading the next major Ninja Gaiden title.
Moreover, PlatinumGames seems to be working on multiple projects at the moment, and we have spotted a job listing for a Game Designer, which states that an online action game is in the works at the studio.
Why it matters: The team is traditionally known for its single-player titles, but this focus has shifted in recent years.
PlatinumGames Is Not Moving Away From Online Titles
According to the “Desired Skills” section in the job listing, the team is seeking to hire someone with experience in online action games. This part is emphasized twice, practically confirming that this is an online live-service title.
For the unaware, PlatinumGames previously tried its hand at live-service gameplay with Babylon’s Fall. Although this title ultimately proved to be a major failure, the team confirmed that it would not abandon the genre altogether.
Therefore, it appears that the new project is part of PlatinumGames’ ongoing focus on live-service gaming. The same job listing also mentions “open-field games,” implying that the team is looking to incorporate open-world elements into the title.
Experience in level design for online or open field games.
The job description does not say much else, but with Ninja Gaiden 4 being revealed recently, perhaps the team will share more details on other ongoing projects soon.
Ninja Gaiden 4 Comes Out Later This Year
PlatinumGames has recently found itself in a difficult position following the departure of Hideki Kamiya and other key figures. Following these hardships, the team is expected to do its best on the upcoming projects.
Rumors have even pointed to a Nier Automata sequel being in the works, but the studio has yet to make an official comment for now.

Yoko Taro, the director of Nier: Automata, believes AI will replace all jobs in the gaming sector within about 50 years.
As per the game creator, the technology will be able to recreate any scenario imaginable.
Consequently, Game developers won’t be needed anymore and will be as obsolete as bards.
Regardless of the area of interest we discuss nowadays, AI is a major point of contention in all of them. Every medium of art, from film to gaming, is riddled with questions about the use of technology and its resulting impact on the human element.
Major companies like Xbox and Sony are already using extensive AI in game development, and according to one of gaming’s most influential creators, if this continues, there will be no jobs left in the gaming industry.
Why This Matters: The impact of AI on the validity of art and employment is something that needs attention, and one of gaming’s biggest auteurs pointing this out is important.
NieR: Automata had a Switch version that released in 2022.
In a new interview with Famitsu, Yoko Taro stated that all game creators will be unemployed in half a century, largely due to the implementation of AI. The man behind Nier Automata explained further, saying all developers will be treated like bards and AI will be able to recreate any scenario imaginable.
Hence, there will be no need for developers to create video games skillfully, and AI will take over instead, generating content based on user feedback, as per Yoko Taro.
I also think that AI will make all game creators unemployed,”In 50 years, game creators may be treated like bards.
AI has been a contentious topic in the gaming world, with various stances on the technology. Take-Two’s Strauss Zelnick stood by AI, stating that the technology would not lead to job losses but rather result in a significant increase in employment opportunities.
Xbox Muse AI.
Others, like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Daniel Vavra, have also expressed similar views, hoping that the technology will help speed up the game development process. Therefore, it’s safe to say that many opinions are in contrast with Yoko Taro’s views, and both sides have valid arguments.

A former Sweet Baby calls Doom: The Dark Ages very underwhelming in their preview.
He says the game feels like an Xbox 360-era title with clunky controls and bad visuals.
The overall experience is a big step down from the previous entry.
Doom: The Dark Ages is one of the most anticipated upcoming titles of the year. While the early previews have all been very positive, calling it peak modern-day gameplay for the series, one preview labels the title a step down from the previous entry.
A former Sweet Baby Inc. employee, in their preview for Doom: The Dark Ages, says that the title doesn’t stack up to modern releases and feels like an Xbox 360 title in a negative way.
Why it matters: This is the only preview that calls the game underwhelming, whereas all the rest praise it for brilliant visuals and excellent gameplay.
Former Sweet Baby employee says Doom: The Dark Ages is ‘Two Steps Back’ for the series.
Kazuma Hashimoto, who has previously worked with Sweet Baby as a ‘Narrative Design Consultant’, recently got hands-on with the game, and doesn’t seem to be too impressed with it. He says that the entry strips everything that made Doom great.
He says that Doom: The Dark Ages doesn’t borrow the fast-paced, blood-pumping combat with strong metal music from the previous game. Instead, it feels sluggish and resembles a cheap copy of other action games.
Kazuma Hashimoto worked with Sweet Baby as Narrative Design Consultant.
The preview further states that the gameplay is reminiscent of Xbox 360-era action games, which were often clunky and rough around the edges. The visuals and creatures also fail to inspire confidence.
However, an in-progress game will undoubtedly have rough edges. Additionally, all other previews indicate that the combat is fluid and the visuals look amazing, which makes this statement quite contradictory and confusing. Nonetheless, the game is set to release on May 15, so the wait won’t be long.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has become a major hit while being available on Game Pass.
Although fans debate the viability of the service following this success, developers argue that launching titles on Game Pass is always a good idea.
They suggest that smaller studios have a lot to gain from Microsoft’s subscription.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has become a major hit for the gaming industry in no time. Following dazzling reviews and an incredible sales milestone, the game has become, what many are calling, a certified GOTY contender for 2025.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is also among the many titles that launched from the get-go on Game Pass and still ended up succeeding commercially. This has sparked discussions around the subscription yet again, but developers believe there is never a good reason not to release games on Game Pass if given the opportunity.
Why it matters: Game Pass has always been the subject of scrutiny from gaming enthusiasts, but more and more developers continue to speak out in favor of the service.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Surpassed The 1 Million Sale Mark In Just 3 Days
Because Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 sold a million units so fast and attracted a large player base, many fans debated if the studio would have been better off skipping the service altogether.
The conversation surrounding Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Game Pass led to the Palworld Publishing Manager sharing his thoughts on the situation. According to his own experience, Game Pass is a very viable service, and it is worth releasing a game on the subscription.
He points out that this is primarily true for indie and AA studios, as evident by Palworld’s success from last year.
It is very worth having your game on Game Pass.

Following Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s commercial success and critical acclaim, the game is likely to find a bigger audience on Game Pass. If nothing else, the recent buzz surrounding the RPG will likely encourage more Game Pass users to give it a go, even if they typically avoid titles with turn-based gameplay.

Former FromSoftware developer Hytacka admitted that Rise of Rebellion’s poor performance was evident after its full launch on Steam.
He also indicated a potential loss of publisher support from Kodansha.
The game currently holds a “Mixed” rating on Steam, with only 40% of reviews being positive, and an estimated 5,000 copies sold.
Hytacka, a former FromSoftware developer, admits their new game, Rise of Rebellion, got off to a rough start. Since its release on Steam on April 21, 2025, the game has struggled with poor sales and negative reviews.
Despite its big ambitions and the developer’s strong background, Rise of Rebellion has been disappointing. Hytacka openly admitted the game flopped, with weak sales and negative reviews. He also warned that Kodansha, the publisher, might pull back support after this rough start.
Why it matters: The disappointing sales numbers of Rise of Rebellion suggest that game development is not as easy for indie developers as it’s often portrayed.
Hytacka provided an update on the game’s performance on his YouTube channel, highlighting negative reviews and low sales numbers.
Currently, Rise of Rebellion has a “Mixed” rating on Steam, with only 40% of the 119 total reviews being positive. Hytacka says the game sold only 3,000 to 5,000 copies—far below the 40,000+ wishlists it had and his original goal of 100,000 sales.
Before the full release, the developer released a new demo on February 25, 2025, aiming to address the combat system and improve the clunky controls that players had complained about.
But even with these changes, the full game still struggled at launch. Right now, there aren’t enough Metacritic reviews to show any official scores for Rise of Rebellion. The game’s future remains uncertain, with Hytacka indicating that he may lose publisher support for upcoming projects.
Rise of Rebellion features a unique ‘power draining’ mechanic called ‘May’.
Despite the challenges, the former FromSoftware developer plans to continue working on future projects. He states that his desire and ambition to create video games have not waned, and he remains very passionate about his work.
However, he acknowledges that losing publisher support will likely slow down the pace of his future projects. Rise of Rebellion is currently available on Steam for PC, if you want to support the indie developer’s work.

A report reveals that Blizzard and Nexon are partnering for the StarCraft IP.
The company also holds the service rights for Overwatch Mobile in Korea and Japan.
Fans of the franchise will be glad to find that Blizzard is finally returning to the IP.
StarCraft is one of the biggest forgotten IPs from Blizzard that hasn’t seen the light of day since 2017, and that too in the form of a remaster. Since then, rumors about a new title have been swirling over the internet, but without any confirmation.
According to a new report, Nexon has been chosen as the negotiating partner for StarCraft IP after winning against various other major Korean companies in a bidding war.
Why it matters: Blizzard seems to be finally going back to the StarCraft IP, but this time it isn’t handling all of the development itself; instead, it’s partnering with Nexon for it.
Rumors of Blizzard returning to StarCraft had been going on for quite a while
As reported by Money Trading Broadcast, Nexon has been chosen as the partner for the StarCraft game, and has also gotten the distribution rights for Overwatch Mobile in Korea and the Japanese regions.
MTN reports that the bidding had been going on since Q4 last year for Major Korean companies to partner on future projects. Nexon had to face other major companies like NC and Netmarble for the rights.
Nexon has been chosen as the partner for the StarCraft IP
StarCraft holds a nostalgic value and is very influential in the Korean market, therefore driving interests from big names. However, Nexon hasn’t worked on a similar title before, so it’ll be interesting to see what approach it takes.
Nonetheless, it is a good sign for fans who desperately wanted a new StarCraft. While it may be very far at this point, at least we will be getting a new title, but whether it remains an RTS or takes a different approach will be seen later.

LG has revealed the world’s first 5K OLED with a 45″ 800R Curved panel that has 125 PPI and with visuals up to 1300 nits at peak brightness.
Its dual mode allows for switching within seconds from 5K 165Hz to 2K 330Hz, which is best suited for competitive gaming.
Despite its features, it takes some time to get accustomed to its large size and curvature. It does come with a hefty price tag of $1,999.
The display technology is evolving at such a high speed that it is pretty challenging to keep up with all the trends. With refresh rates and resolutions increasing over time, the absolute peak is OLED.
If you’ve ever tried OLED, you know that there’s no going back once you’ve used it. Most OLEDS come with 4K resolution, but what if I told you there’s something even greater that has entered the market?
LG GX9 5K OLED Monitor (Image Credits – YT/optimum)
Say Hello To 5K OLED
LG has unveiled the world’s first ever 5K OLED display with their LG GX9 monitor. As you lay your eyes on this panel, you can see the hyper-realistic colours, which are a delight for your eyes.
Sharpness & Colors
This is because it features 125 pixels per inch, where each pixel is self-lit. Pair this with its 5K sharpness, which makes everything look almost crispy, as its visuals could reach up to 1300 nits at peak brightness.
HDR True Black 400 (Image Credits – YT/optimum)
With its HDR True Black 400, the blacks will be extremely dark, and the bright spots will have extremely sharp and vivid colours. With the specifications it comes with, you should know that it is more than what your eyes need.
45″ Wide Screen
It doesn’t just stop at its resolution and colours, because LG went ahead to extend its size to 45 inches. This means it comes with all the benefits that a wide-screen monitor comes with compared to a standard monitor.
45″ Display (Image Credits – YT/optimum)
This means you can edit your videos or play games on the 21:9 aspect ratio, and LG even claims that this 45″ wide aspect offers 40% more pixels than a 49″ monitor with a 32:9 DQHD screen.
While we’re not sure how valid this claim is, we know that 5K on a 45″ is highly pleasing to the eyes. Much like most gaming monitors, it also features anti-glare and low blue light, allowing you to use it in almost any lighting condition.
Curved Display
Okay, so it’s 5K OLED, 45 inches, and it’s curved. LG is stacking features upon features with this monitor. Now, you get to immerse yourself with this 800R curved display, and 5K looks incredible with this immersive screen.
800R Curvature (Image Credits – YT/optimum)
The wide display gives you a somewhat unfair advantage while gaming since you get a higher field of view than other players. With this large of a display, I’m hesitant even to call it a monitor, as most TVs come in this size.
However, it is worth keeping in mind that you need to place it at a considerable distance from yourself, as the display may feel too close if you don’t maintain a proper distance from it.
Dual Mode: 165Hz & 330Hz
This is where it gets interesting. This monitor comes with two modes, depending on how you want to use it. In the first model, you can view the street at 5K resolution with up to 165Hz refresh rate.
Dual Mode (Image Credits – YT/optimum)
This is perfect for productivity tasks, where you can utilize the higher resolution and still get crisp visuals, whether you’re video editing or making a 3D model on this enormous display.
The second mode switches to 2K with 330Hz in around 3 seconds. This is ideal for gamers who require higher refresh rates, particularly when playing competitive multiplayer games.
Other Features
Like most other gaming monitors, this OLED display comes with features like AMD FreeSync and Nvidia’s G-Sync to eliminate screen tearing and stutters. It also comes with an extremely quick 0.03ms response time.
Other Features (Image Credits – LG)
It supports HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1, and USB Type-C, so you can plug it in however you wish. It also has built-in speakers and support for a headphone jack. The screen is also borderless, making it incredibly immersive.
Its Price…
With all of these features, this monitor doesn’t come cheap. It comes with a hefty price tag of $1,999 (US dollars). However, people who have the budget for it and prefer its features should consider going for it.
Challenges With This Monitor
It is essential to note that with the wider display, certain aspects of the games may be harder to reach with your eyes, so you will need to move your head slightly, which could make gameplay more challenging.
Some Challenges (Image Credits – YT/optimum)
For some gamers, this monitor might be very impractical, especially considering that they need refresh rates on a relatively smaller monitor. For instance, many competitive esports players prefer a 24-inch 1440p monitor.
Why Your Old Monitor Isn’t Cutting It Anymore
If you’re still using a 24-inch 1080p monitor with an IPS panel, consider upgrading it as soon as possible. I’m not telling you to upgrade directly to a 5K OLED display, but consider upgrading to a 27-inch 1440p one for a change.

The Nintendo Switch 2 created quite the controversy, but everyone seems to be fine with what Nintendo is charging for the console and games.
Despite the current economic climate, the console immediately sold out as pre-orders went live.
With nearly everything costing more, the cost of owning a Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to continue increasing over time.
The Nintendo Switch 2, quite literally, shook the gaming industry. In a move nobody saw coming, Nintendo boldly raised AAA game prices to $80 and made a console more expensive than both the Xbox Series S and vanilla PS5 Digital Edition.
One might think that this move would hinder the Nintendo Switch 2’s success, but this wouldn’t be the first time the vocal minority of gamers has been proven wrong. With the Nintendo Switch 2 projected to break console records, it has become clear that Nintendo was right to push the needle of game pricing.
In fact, the gaming giant has single-handedly proven that audiences are now, more than ever, willing to pay more for the hobby.
Why it matters: Nintendo’s recent antics set the stage for the industry to follow suit, much like PlayStation led the charge for $70 AAA releases.
The Current Economic Crisis
Basically Everything Is Now More Expensive Than It Used To Be
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the discussion is that the Nintendo Switch 2 is being released at the worst possible time. Government tariffs threaten to disrupt manufacturers, everyday commodities are more expensive than ever, and life for most is now much harder than it used to be.
Amid the chaos, gamers have still found it in themselves to pre-order the shiny new hardware. Putting aside the already high starting price of $450, the new hardware requires spending north of $500 for newer games and accessories.
Practically everyone is expected to buy Mario Kart World, and although it’s nice to see Nintendo packaging the game with the console for $500, this is still a significant amount of money when rent alone can consume a substantial portion of an average family’s budget today.
Millions across various industries have also lost their jobs in recent years, and wages have barely kept up with the rising inflation. At a time when gaming has essentially become a luxury, and budget options like the Xbox Series S are proving popular, I expected more people to skip the Nintendo Switch 2 on day one.
As someone who has witnessed the rise and fall of numerous trends in this industry, including the infamous loot boxes, I consistently advocate for voting with one’s wallet. This is exactly what gamers appear to be doing, except that the pendulum is swinging in the opposite direction this time.
Following the Nintendo Switch 2’s reveal, many quickly raised their voices against the company’s practices. PlayStation fans, in particular, were outraged at the attempt to charge $80 for titles like Mario Kart World.
How dare Nintendo charge $80 for games that look worse than the average AAA PS4 title? Why does the company get a free pass compared to PlayStation and Xbox? These questions, along with more, were raised by many enthusiast gamers.
It seemed everyone was prepared to send a message, but the recently opened pre-orders tell a completely different tale. The Nintendo Switch 2 is sold out practically everywhere, and Nintendo itself has admitted that it underestimated the demand.
Many have even gone as far as paying several hundred dollars more to scalpers to obtain a pre-order. From Nintendo’s perspective, the current pricing is anything but a mistake, and the successful launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 will reaffirm this notion further.
The gaming giant has even dismissed doubts regarding the costs in recent interviews, making vague references to value and content.
Console Costs Add Up Over Time
The New Pro Controller Costs $85 vs. the Previous Generation’s $70 MSRP
It goes without saying, but console costs typically add up over time. The cost of entry is kept low on purpose, and with future game purchases, subscriptions, and various accessories, these costs can quickly spiral out of control.
Nintendo has already increased accessory pricing twice in some cases, so things will only change for the worse this generation. With a Pro controller that costs $85 and Joy-Cons priced at $94.99, I can only hope that these accessories come with added durability because nobody needs to be reminded how bad the original Joy-Cons were.
Although there is still hope that Nintendo’s pricing will result in some long-term impacts, the entire gaming industry has its eyes on the upcoming launch. The Nintendo Switch 2, being the company’s biggest console launch ever, can only mean one thing.
PlayStation, Xbox, and everyone else will soon follow suit and make their own moves. Perhaps Xbox will try to charge more for Game Pass, and PlayStation will attempt to push standard game pricing further using rising budgets and development time as justifications.
It’s hard to say for sure, but whatever these gaming giants decide to do, the consumer will ultimately suffer. However, it seems that most people don’t mind paying more every time a company demands it.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has now surpassed 115k active players on Steam in only three days after its successful launch.
The game quickly launched to 51k active players three days ago and has continued to reach milestones since then.
The RPG has also sold a million copies so far and is expected to grow more in sales and player count in the coming days.
Sandfall Interactive’s magnum opus has now smashed through 115k daily active players on Steam. At the time of writing, this figure is growing rapidly by the minute and is expected to climb throughout the day.
Why it matters: Clair Obscur has seen sudden and continued blossoming after launch because of its eye-candy visuals and innovative combat mechanics that have appealed to a lot of gamers.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has already reached over 115k active players on Steam.
As seen on the Steam tracking site, SteamDB, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is accumulating a lot of players, and the chart shows no signs of dipping down. The weekend has played a big role in attracting droves of players to the newly launched RPG for the first time.
The RPG sold over 500k copies during its first day, with the figure now already increasing to a million. So, we can expect the game to have a lot more active players across all platforms simultaneously.
And like you would expect, it is also sitting at a ‘very positive’ rating on Steam, with over 92% positive reviews. It is the highest-rated game to launch this year so far, leaving titles like Assassin’s Creed Shadows in the dust.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has innovated turn-based combat like never before.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 also has a near-perfect user score on Metacritic, a feat few games have been able to boast over the years. The entry is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
