Nintendo's Value Is Becoming A Huge Question Mark!

Story Highlight
  • Fans are angry that Mario Kart World costs more than Ghost of Yotei.
  • Despite having a higher budget, Ghost of Yotei is $10 cheaper than Mario.
  • Following this pricing structure, fans are debating the value Nintendo provides to its customers compared to others.

Nintendo recently revealed the much-anticipated Switch 2, but with the console came Mario Kart World, the first $80-priced game. While many Nintendo gamers initially seemed to be fine with it, they are now taking it less well.

PlayStation announced Ghost of Yotei’s October release with a $70 price, which has led to Nintendo fans becoming furious as to why Mario Kart World costs more than a full-fledged AAA title.

Why it matters: Nintendo’s announcement was already controversial to begin with, and Ghost of Yotei’s standard pricing has only made matters worse.

Taking to X, many Nintendo fans voiced their frustration with the company, noting that a game almost triple the scale of Mario Kart World costs $10 less than it. Moreover, future new Switch 2 releases are expected to cost the same.

Many fans feared that the $80 price would become the staple for AAA releases in the future due to this move by Nintendo. Therefore, they are glad to see Ghost of Yotei retaining the $70 price tag, even if it makes Mario Kart World seem unappealing.

Ghost of Yotei appears to have a significantly bigger budget and took years of development to bring its open world to life. Therefore, paying more for Nintendo’s offering doesn’t make much sense to the fans.

Now this is what $70 games should look like.

Nonetheless, GTA 6 could be the title that sets the precedent for higher prices despite the fans’ frustration with Nintendo.
