  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 review roundup points towards an excellent RPG.
  • Being a debut title for Sandfall, the developers have done a fantastic job with it.
  • The title boasts a 92 score on Metacritic and brilliant overall reviews.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is among the most sought-after titles releasing this year. Finally, the studio has lifted the review embargo on the title, and it seems like it checks all the elements of a classic RPG in the making, despite being the studio’s first project.

Developed by Sandfall Interactive, Clair Obscur has all the properties of a great title, which has also led to an excellent Metacritic score and universal praise from the critics.

Why it matters: Ever since the game’s early impressions dropped, most gamers have been confident it would be a cool experience, based on how it is influenced by some of the best classic games in the genre.

Clair Obscur has debuted with an excellent score of 92 on Metacritic.

On Metacritic, the game has managed to amass a score of 92, which is one of the best scores of the year and could make Clair Obscur one of the contenders for this year’s Game of the Year award. Other review scores include:

  • XboxEra: 9.5/10
  • Gamesradar: 9/10
  • GamingBolt: 9/10
  • IGN: 9/10
  • Eurogamer: 8/10
  • Opencritic: 91

One of the biggest praises the game has received is its combat. IGN says that the turn-based combat it features isn’t only superb, but also makes the game feel fresh, with influences from some of the best Japanese RPGs.

Other reviews also praise it for the excellent storytelling and engaging characters. Also, the world and the soundtrack are beautiful and nicely complement the overall aesthetics of the game. It also isn’t too long or too short, just the perfect length.

The only gripe is about little spikes in the game’s difficulty level, but that is just nitpicking at this point. Nonetheless, it is great to see a new great original IP, especially given that it is the debut title for Sanfall Interactive.
