Should You Buy A Pre-Built PC Or Build Your Own In 2025?

Story Highlights
  • Building your own PC allows you to have freedom over the PC components, is much cheaper, and you can upgrade parts easily later.
  • Getting a pre-built PC saves you tons of time and effort, and some even let you put custom parts.
  • But it also means you could be getting cheaper parts, and pre-built PCs have temperature and noise issues.

Ever since gaming PCs have begun to grow, the age-old question still remains even in 2025: whether to buy a pre-built PC or to build one on your own. Both have their pros and cons, so let’s dive into them.

Advantages Of Building Your Own PC

Building a PC yourself has much to do with timing; it also comes with many advantages that vary according to your schedule, budget, and technical expertise. Let’s examine these advantages that apply to most users.

Reduced Cost

One of the most prominent benefits of building your own PC is that you can control the cost of it and usually build it at a much lower price compared to pre-built ones. Typically, there are more discounted deals on separate PC parts.

This means that you can browse around and get separate components from different places, saving tons of money in the process. This is especially great for users who are on a budget and are looking to build a PC at an affordable price.

For these users, the barrier to entry is lowering despite the rising cost of the PC components. Now you can easily go with a mid-range PC because AI upscaling technology will handle the rest for you.

Flexibility

With your own PC, you have the freedom to choose which parts you want and which ones to reject. This means you’ll get everything that you like, which isn’t the case in pre-built PCs, where you could dislike having some of the parts in it.

This means that you aren’t compromising with your build, and every part, according to your expertise, will complement the setup. This eliminates any bottlenecking that a pre-built PC could potentially have.

Easier To Upgrade Or Add Other Parts

Once you’ve got the hang of it and built your first PC, you now have an added skill. This means that even if you have to install or replace any part, let’s say an SSD, you could easily do it on your own without relying on others.

Joy Of Building Something With Your Hands

For most users, this point hits home. Many people love the joy they get from building a PC entirely. They feel accomplished, and then using their PC feels like they’re eating the fruits of their own labor.

Downsides of Building Your Own PC

With many advantages, there are downsides to building your own PC. Some of which can be avoided, but are still worth mentioning,  especially to those who’ll be building their first ever PCs.

Difficulty

PC building is actually complex and you need to have the proper knowledge on it. This means that you have to be constantly reading manuals, instructions and watching YouTube videos to set your PC up the right way.

PC Issues

Tidious Process

This process is tedious and requires way more time than people may expect. Moreover, if you bump into a problem, you have to diagnose it yourself and figure it out, which could be annoying if it happens after you’ve set up everything.

Pre-Built PC

People who don’t have the time to learn how a PC is built could just get a pre-built PC. It saves you time and effort and has other benefits, but there are a few things you need to keep in mind before getting one.

Wait Times & Potential Damage

Some pre-built PCs could have long wait times, especially if you have a custom request. Your PC could also be damaged in transit because typically Pre-built PCs aren’t shipped, especially if they have AIO coolers.

Wait Times

Cheaper Parts

Since you don’t have control over many pre-built PCs, there is a chance you get outdated or cheaper parts, such as an outdated PSU. Since you don’t know about PC parts, you won’t realize it, so avoiding cheap pre-built systems is better.

Pre-Built From Big Brands

If you get one from big brands like HP, Corsair, Aser, and Alienware, you need to be extra cautious. Despite being extremely overpriced and having high-end components, these builds could have temperature and noise issues.

Since they’re built on custom cases that appear unique from standard pre-built PCs, they’re sometimes prone to high temperatures and could also be noisier. So, it’s best to look for these things from YouTube videos beforehand.

Which One Should You Go For?

It depends on your budget, priorities, technical expertise, and passion. If you think you have the budget but not the time to go through the hassle, you should go for pre-built ones. If not, feel free to build your own.

New Details Emerge On Cancelled Ultimate Spider-Man 2 With Wolverine, Doctor Doom, And More

Story Highlight
  • Concept Artist Ian Hosfeld recently shared details for the cancelled Ultimate Spider-Man 2.
  • The cancelled sequel featured Wolverine and Daredevil, with the Green Goblin as a playable character, and was set in an expanded New York.
  • Despite exciting gameplay features like mini-combat helicopters and new weather effects, the game was scrapped due to insufficient sales and other projects at Activision.

The friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man has seen many iterations across the gaming world. While Insomniac’s version of the webhead is the most famous, fans can remember the 2005 iteration, which was basically a playable comic book.

Ultimate Spider-Man remains one of the best adaptations of the wall-crawler and has gathered a cult following over the years. At one point, the game also had a sequel in development, and thanks to the concept artist, details on the title have now emerged.

Why it matters: Ultimate Spider-Man looks and sounds so good. It’s a shame that fans were robbed of another peak portrayal of the superhero.

Ian Hosfeld recently shared details on the cancelled sequel, and it appears that the entire storyboard for the game was laid out.

The title would’ve featured Wolverine’s return, with Doctor Doom playing a minor role in the narrative. Additionally, Daredevil and The Hand would’ve been present in the story.

According to the details, Shadowcast from the X-Men had a supporting role, and players would also be able to control the Green Goblin as the second playable protagonist. The expanded gameplay also featured mini-combat helicopters and winter weather effects.

Concept Art For The Cancelled Ultimate Spider-Man Sequel

The open world of New York City was also expanded with the addition of Brooklyn and Coney Island. The sequel’s story was loosely based on the Ultimate Spider-Man: Death of a Goblin comic.

The comic’s story involved Spider-Man and Green Goblin’s fight after the supervillain’s presumed death. Peter Parker’s identity would have been exposed to his enemies, who would have united to defeat the webhead.

Unfortunately, the sequel could never be released because Activision didn’t find the first game’s sales sufficient. At the time, Treyarch was also working on Call of Duty 3 and Spider-Man 3, which was the final nail in the coffin for the sequel.

This Modder Is Revamping The Classic Batman Arkham Knight!

Story Highlights
  • Increasing the difficulty so it is challenging because the base game was too lenient to players.
  • Combat animations tweaked, visual enhancements, earn suits by unlocking Riddler’s trophies.
  • This mod is still under development, and the release date hasn’t been announced, but once it’s released, it’ll be a treat for the OG players.

Batman: Arkham Knight was a groundbreaking title from Rocksteady Studios. Its so well made that even after 9 years, it remains better than most of the superhero titles we see today. But what if this game were an RPG?

YouTuber, GPUnity, decided to take this matter into his own hands by creating a mod that would completely revamp the game. He has already made mods for Arkham Asylum, City, and Origins, and now it’s time for Arkham Knight.

Increasing Difficulties

GPUnity felt like the game was too linear for the players, so he decided to amp up the difficulty of this game by adjusting many things. This presents a challenge to even those who’ve completed the game multiple times.

New Upgrade System

Now, there would be a completely revamped upgrade system, unlike the previous one, which was too easy on the players. Previously, you could get upgrade points by simple acts such as completing the tutorial.

New Upgrade System
New Upgrade System (Image Credits – YT/GPUnity)

He intended to balance it out for every player by allowing you to have lower upgrades, so the legendary tier items feel important. This would force players to earn the upgrades instead of handing them out freely.

Difficulty Levels

He has added four difficulty levels, each building on top of the other. Regular is the standard one, Insane is for the players who want to push themselves, and Chaos dramatically increases enemies’ aggressiveness and damage.

The Combat

The free-flow combat of the Batman Arkham Series has already garnered much praise from the gaming community. Despite it already being good, he is making it look better by introducing a few tweaks.

Batman Combat

Different FOV

One of the combat moves that Batman had was the super batclaw combo. Many players found the camera animation of this move to be annoying and requested to remove it completely.

But GPUnity decided to keep it and tweak its camera animation. So, he changed its field of view from 45° to 60° at the start and ended the animation by zooming it out to 79°. This gives players more room to look around and looks better than before.

Difficult Parry Attack

There was a move called the Blade Dodge Takedowns, which was simply this game’s parry attack. Previously, it was too easy for the players to parry attacks, so he made the combat harder.

Blade Dodge
Blade Dodge (Image Credits – Arkham Wiki)

He made enemies attack faster with the blades, so players now have to time it correctly and be quicker to dodge them. Also, failure to dodge them leads to more damage than before, which makes it more challenging.

Boss Fights

Although Arkham Knight has the best boss variety, many of the bosses were underwhelming and didn’t feel challenging enough. GPUnity hasn’t started working on them, but he’s surely planning on tweaking them.

Earn The Suits Through Trophies

There are many suits in the game which you can unlock, such as the Pristine suit after completing the base game. So he decided to make the players earn these suits by collecting Riddler’s trophies.

Suit Found

Now, Riddler’s trophies were already in the base game, and many players knew their locations. If they didn’t, they could find them by just searching the Internet. So, he hid the trophies on his own throughout the map.

Visual Improvements

He has also improved the visuals of the game so that they appear different from the vanilla game. He has adjusted the rain properties to create a heavy atmosphere. This enhances the gritty look making it appear like a movie.

Apart from that, the base game was heavy on green hues when it came to shadows. So, he reduced this color grading, which makes it natural and gives it a more modern touch.

More Rain

The Batmobile’s smoke was very bright, which he also adjusted by toning it down so it feels more believable. I personally found the previous smoke to be already better but this overhaul might be appealing to other players.

Release Date?

This mod is still under development as only one person is creating it. He says he still has a lot of work and testing to do, and he didn’t reveal the exact release date, but he’s keeping us updated on his YouTube channel.

Majority Of Fans Are Unwilling To Buy The Next-Gen Xbox Console

Story Highlight
  • Following Xbox’s multiplatform route, fans argue that buying the next-gen console would be useless.
  • Even the current Series X|S consoles are quite costly, and the next-gen Xbox would be beyond the reach of most consumers.
  • On the other hand, PlayStation approaches exclusivity strategically, and this is a huge selling point for its consoles.

Following a rough start to this generation, Xbox has now withdrawn its competition with PlayStation and gone the publisher route.

While the multi-platform strategy was a corporate win, the gaming giant has lost its mass appeal. The majority of Xbox fans are now claiming that they won’t buy the next-gen console anymore.

Why it matters: With Xbox out of the equation, PlayStation will completely dominate the console market. A lack of competition would adversely affect the gaming industry.

Poll Asking If Fans Will Buy The Next-Gen Xbox Console Or Not

A recent poll showed that more than 55% of users won’t buy the next-gen Xbox console, while almost 25% think that it’ll depend on the console itself. Only the remaining 20% of voters will buy a next-gen Xbox.

Fans argue that Xbox’s multi-platform strategy has made the Series X|S console unappealing, with no exclusives. Even the core Xbox franchises like Gears of War and Forza Horizon are now on PlayStation.

Even the current Series X|S consoles are beyond the average consumer’s needs after such a price hike. The Series X costs almost as much as a PS5 Pro.

Most even question the need for an Xbox Next-Gen console now that it has lost all of its charm.

What's the point of a next generation if all Xbox games are now going to other platforms?

Still, the gaming giant doesn’t plan to stop making consoles, and the next iteration of Xbox consoles is already in development.

Game Devs Should Learn From Bethesda’s Shadowdrop Strategy

Story Highlights
  • Bethesda’s decision to shadow-drop Oblivion remastered proved to work completely in their favour.
  • They gained the traction without spending a dime on marketing and people didn’t have false expectations so they enjoyed the game.
  • Although shadow-dropping is a great strategy, building trust with the players and using it for expansions and remasters is a better way to use it.

We live in a time when there’s a lot of hype built way before games are actually released and GTA 6 is a prime example of this. We now get tons of teaser trailers, leaks, and theories, all of which increase the expectations of the players.

Oblivion Remastered

But Bethesda has done something different, and it has proved to work completely in their favour. They shadow-dropped Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered by announcing it on the same day of its launch.

Shadow Dropping Oblivion

While there were leaks before the release, Oblivion Remastered was completely hidden from the general public. No one knew that it was under development for nearly four years.

A Surprise That Paid Off Big

Despite people not knowing about it, this remaster proved to be extremely successful. Fans were quick to grab this game, making it the 3rd-best-selling title of 2025 in the United States.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Is Selling Like Hotcakes On Steam Despite Releasing A Few Moments Ago.

Not only that, but it had also achieved over 200K concurrent players on Steam. These are huge achievements for a re-release of a game that is nearly over two decades old.

Win-Win For Bethesda

Bethesda has benefited from this release in more than one way. First, there were leaks just before its release, but fans needed an official statement. So, they flocked to Bethesda’s live stream for answers.

Bethesda
Win Win For Bethesda (Image Credits – GameRant)

This gave Bethesda free publicity on their live streams, and more eyes means they can monetise this attention later, which is exactly what happened. The surprise release directly translated into more sales.

This is genius, considering Bethesda didn’t have to spend a dime on the marketing of the game after the release. They probably saved millions of dollars worth of advertising because of this sneaky but clever drop.

What If Bethesda Had Built Hype Before Its Release?

While it isn’t a new title and is only a remaster, and nostalgia played a big role in its success, still, if Bethesda announced it before and raised unrealistic expectations, it could’ve easily been a failure.

Oblivion Remaster Looks Incredible But Is It A Faithful Remaster
Oblivion Remastered (Image Credits – Tech4Gamers)

This is because, despite the great remaster, the game is mostly based on the older engine, and it retains many glitches as well. Many people might not have expected this, as they would eventually be disappointed had it been announced before.

But Why Does It Work?

Instead of going the traditional route of announcing a game and then having month long cycles then launching the game in an improper state then having post-launch updates to fix it, Bethesda took a different strategy.

No Pressure From The Community

They silently developed this game, and there was no pressure from the community because people simply weren’t aware of its development. They weren’t bombarded by messages from the people all the time inquiring about the game.

Rockstar Getting Messages
People Messaging Constantly (Image Credits – X)

No False Expectations

Moreover, the community felt great about this title because they didn’t have any expectations. In fact, people couldn’t expect anything because they were simply not given any time to form any expectations in the first place.

This lack of expectations works in the favour of developers and game studios because it is far better to have a game that doesn’t have any expectations attached rather than building hype, creating expectations and not meeting them later.

oblivion-4-million
Surpassed 4 million players In Its First Week (Image Credits – Bethesda)

Taking the latter approach often results in fans being disappointed more than ever and losing faith in the game studios. This has happened repeatedly in the past such as for Cyberpunk 2077 and Starfield.

It Feels Generous

Often, shadow-dropping games feel more like a gift to the community. Without any build-up hype, people believe that the company is saying: “Here you go, a game for you.”, which builds good will even if the game isn’t that good.

It’s Not Always Fun For Everyone

Although this shadow drop was a win-win for both Bethesda and the gaming community, small indie publishers were affected by it. Particularly, their small games get completely overshadowed by these shadow drops.

oblivion-shadowdrop
Samll Indie Publishers (Image Credits – X)

This is because they spend a lot of time planning everything related to their release and when surprise releases dominate the headlines, it becomes extremely difficult for these less-known games to gain traction.

What Other Studios Can Learn

The main reason this remaster worked is that the original Oblivion was a big hit. Bethesda had built trust around this game, which helped them get more sales for their remaster as well.

While shadowdropping is a good strategy, other studios should learn from Bethesda and not use it all the time. Instead, they stick to it for expansions, remasters, or experimental projects.

Former PlayStation Exec Says FormSoftware’s The Duskbloods Is The Most Exciting Switch 2 Exclusive

Story Highlight
  • The Duskbloods is former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida’s most anticipated game.
  • Yoshida stated in an interview that he is intrigued by the upcoming title.
  • He also wants to see what FromSoftware does with the Nintendo Switch 2 on a technical level.

FromSoftware took the entire world by surprise when it announced The Duskbloods, a brand new PvPvE title that would be an exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2 next year. The exclusivity was not really a fan favourite, as many have been waiting for the developer’s next project after Elden Ring.

But it was a big win for Nintendo, so much so that even competing parties, including former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida, have shown interest in The Duskbloods.

Why This Matters: The Duskbloods is a creative gamble, and the anticipation around it could turn sour if FromSoftware doesn’t pull it off.

The Duskbloods
The Duskbloods will launch next year in June.

While talking to PlayStationInside in a new interview, Yoshida revealed that The Duskbloods was his most anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 title. The ex-PlayStation executive stated that the PvPvE title was what intrigued him in the Switch 2 lineup.

In addition, Shuhei Yoshida expressed interest in seeing what FromSoftware does with the Nintendo Switch 2 on a technical level, as the console’s power is still not fully known.

I’m very intrigued by The Duskbloods. I’m curious to see what FromSoftware will do a technical level.

The ex-PlayStation executive also praised Elden Ring, saying he is always looking forward to the next FromSoftware game and what they do due to the 2022 RPG’s success. So far, however, Duskbloods is a departure from tradition for the legendary developer as it is offering a multiplayer experience instead of an RPG.

Shuhei Yoshida previously remarked that the company would struggle to adapt to PvP multiplayer, and others have also expressed uncertainty over the new direction FromSoftware is taking. In addition, Miyazaki explicitly saying he isn’t a fan of PvP isn’t a positive sign.

duskbloods featured
FromSoftware has promised to continue work on single-layer titles.

But, at the end of the day, it is FromSoftware, and it’ll be exciting to see what the team conjures up because even if it’s bad, they will revert to single-player right after.

Do you think The Duskbloods will have Elden Ring levels of success? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

How Switch 2 Could Become the Ultimate Indie Console

Story Highlights

  • The Switch 2 could build upon the original’s indie success with stronger hardware and better design.
  • Improved processing speeds and storage could help support more ambitious indie titles.
  • Better tools for development and flexible publishing support can help attract more indie studios.
  • Nintendo’s indie showcases and promotions give small studios big visibility.

When the Nintendo Switch launched in 2017, it quickly gained popularity for its indie exclusives. Games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Super Mario Odyssey struck new excitement in the hearts of fans. Behind the spotlight of the Switch, a quiet revolution was taking place; indie games were thriving on the platform.

The Switch quickly became the home for many of the best indie titles. Now, as the anticipation for the Switch 2 continues to build, Nintendo has the chance to lock in its identity as the ultimate indie gaming console of this generation.

A Legacy of Indie Success

The original Switch proved that a console does not need to match the raw horsepower of competitors to succeed with indie games. The flexible hybrid design allows players to enjoy indie hits on the go. Games that may have been overlooked on PCs or lost in overcrowded digital stores found a safe haven on the Switch, granting them new life.

Switch 2 AAA Games

Developers lately have noticed that there is more demand for indie games than AAA titles these days. Nintendo’s commitment to showcasing indie titles through Indie World Showcases and eShop promotions has heightened the value of these games. With the Switch 2 now in the making Nintendo has a rare chance to make indie support a centerpiece of the new console and not just a side benefit.

Hardware Improvements That Matter

If the Switch 2 is going to be the ideal platform for indie developers and fans some key hardware upgrades are due. Firstly, storage space must be addressed. Many indie titles are smaller in file size, however larger more ambitious projects such as Blasphemous 2 and Sea of Stars are increasingly demanding more space.

Using a base internal storage of at least 256 GB and a faster SSD like system can eliminate space related issues and help make the console more future proof. Secondly, upgrading the processing power and graphics capabilities will help the Switch 2 manage more complex indie games without any performance issues.

Nintendo Switch 2

Many indie games these days make use of advanced lighting effects, hand drawn or pixel-art graphics and physics systems that may strain the current hardware of the original Switch. Even basic improvements such as support for DLSS from Nvidia could significantly improve the frame rates and visual clarity of games.

Putting Creativity in the Spotlight

A major reason that made the Switch special for indie games was its intention to give smaller games some attention. Indie World Showcases often introduced players to new and creative experiences while simultaneously increasing the reach of indie titles. On platforms such as the PS5 and Xbox, indies often compete with AAA games.

However, on the Switch they often go toe to toe or sometimes even surpass these AAA games. According to many reports indie titles are now generating nearly as much revenue as AAA titles.

The Switch 2 could expand on this strength with smarter storefront curation, personalized indie recommendations, and seasonal indie festivals in the eShop. Nintendo can use the trust it’s created among fans to make indies the front and center of its new console.

Supporting Developers and Hardware Innovations

Indie success isn’t just about reaching players. If Nintendo wants to be the ultimate indie gaming console for creators, it must provide them with the necessary tools and support to make development and publishing easier. Even just offering responsive support teams and reducing bureaucracy could make a massive difference to help small studios that do not have the support of a major publisher.

Nintendo Switch 2

On the other hand, speaking about Nintendo’s hardware game, it has lagged behind the competition for quite a while. The Switch 2, however, could be the turning point, with rumors suggesting 120 FPS gaming capabilities, better load times, and a new chipset, plus features such as a dual-screen mode.

With the demand for indies at an all-time high, this is Nintendo’s chance. The groundwork has already been laid, now it’s a matter of execution. Only time will tell if Nintendo can be deemed the ultimate indie console or not.

Ori Dev Says Studio Could Close Down Amid Worsening Financial Conditions

Story Highlight
  • Moon Studios could be on the brink of closure as the CEO asks gamers to support No Rest For The Wicked.
  • The team behind the Ori franchise recently went independent and is facing a challenging time.
  • It states that review bombings and negative comments harm sales and threaten the studio’s future.

Moon Studios, the team behind the Ori games and last year’s No Rest For The Wicked, is quite famous for its work in the industry.

After going fully independent in 2024, the studio hoped to begin a new chapter of success and prosperity, with No Rest For The Wicked at the forefront of this ambition. However, recent comments from CEO Thomas Mahler suggest things have not gone as smoothly as anticipated.

Why it matters: Thousands of game developers have lost their jobs in recent years, and many studios, including those owned by big publishers, have been shut down recently.

No Rest For The Wicked
No Rest For The Wicked Has Mostly Positive Reviews On Steam Overall

As per Thomas Mahler, Moon Studios may not be around to offer more updates for No Rest For The Wicked in the coming months.

This comment comes as the studio’s CEO asks his audience to leave positive reviews for the title on all platforms. As per his statement, review bombing can significantly hurt game sales and harm Moon Studios’ outlook.

He states that positive reviews hold more importance for Moon Studios than the average developer since the team lacks the backing of a huge publisher. Thomas Mahler urges his audience to continue supporting No Rest For The Wicked if they hope to see the game being completed.

It’s possible that we won’t be around in a couple of months to do anything anymore.

Ori And The Will of The Wisps
Ori And The Will of The Wisps Is Still One of Xbox’s Most Praised Titles

Perhaps Moon Studios will attempt to find a major publisher to ensure its survival for the foreseeable future. Because the team has a history of working with Microsoft, it could even end up absorbed in the Xbox Game Studios umbrella.

What are your thoughts on the studio’s current situation? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Should You Get A 4K TV Instead Of A 4K Monitor?

Story Highlights
  • You can get a 4K OLED TV at a fraction of the price of a 4K monitor, while getting a larger size.
  • You get great pixel density, better speakers, and more space to work with, and most TVs now have lower input lag and higher refresh rates.
  • The downside is that it has a glossy screen, which reflects a lot of light that can be distracting. It’s also prone to getting burn-ins.

In the PC setup building world, where a large majority of people are going for 4K monitors that range from 27-inch and go all the way up to 37-inch. But as these monitors are evolving in terms of features and size, so are their prices.

Benefits Of Having A 4K TV

Meanwhile, 4K TVS are much more affordable when compared to these monitors, especially if we’re talking about OLED. So, should you skip 4K monitors and stick to 4K TVs instead, then? Let’s answer this in the light of pros and cons.

Cheaper Than OLED Monitors

If you’ve ever tried OLED, you know there’s no going back, even if you’ve just spent a few minutes experiencing its beauty. These panels offer perfect blacks, extremely vibrant colours, and motion clarity.

OLED TV Price
OLED TV Low Price (Image Credits – Best Buy)

But the prices of OLED monitors are sky high. Monitors typically have higher prices because of the features they come with, catering to gamers, and OLED just raises the price even higher.

Compare this with TVs; you can easily get a 42″ or a 48″ 4K OLED one in a fraction of the price. Now, it is reasonable to assume that TVs would just be bad because they’re relatively cheaper than monitors, but that’s not entirely the case.

Huge Size

For many gamers, aspect ratio matters a lot, and many believe that ultra-wide monitors have the perfect aspect ratio. These monitors are super wide and most of them are curved, which enhances the immersion of the users.

Samsung Odyssey G9 Ultrawide Gaming Setup With Lian Li Dynamic O11 Casing 3
Samsung Odyssey G9 Monitor (Image Credits – Tech4Gamers)

Many users who previously used a dual-monitor setup are switching to an ultra-wide setup because having multiple displays could get annoying, as the display isn’t seamless. This is where TVs become a superior choice.

See, the problem with ultra-wide monitors is that while they’re pretty wide, they lack the width. This means you’re loosing a lot of vertical space, which you could easily be using in a TV.

In contrast, you get one 49-inch TV, and you get ample space in all four corners of the TV. This is especially great if you’re using it for productivity, where multitasking becomes a breeze.

TV As A Monitor

Sound

TVs typically come with better speakers than all of the monitors, regardless of how expensive the monitors are. And you can ramp up the volumes a lot more, which isn’t the case for monitors.

Picture Quality

On almost every TV, you’ll get a way better image quality than on monitors. Sure, you can get a similar quality on an OLED monitor as well, but you have to break the bank for it. In TVs, even the lower-end OLED ones present excellent image quality.

Samsung TV Image Quality
Excellent Image Quality (Image Credits – Samsung)

Warranty

Where monitors typically come with a one-year warranty, you can get yourself an OLED that can range up to 5 years of warranty. This is handy when you later decide to sell your TV because buyers get an added assurance.

Potential Downsides Of Using A TV

Despite all of these benefits, there are a few downsides of having a TV and there are somethings you need to be aware of before switching from a monitor to a TV.

Glossy Screen

See, monitors come with tons of features, most of which cater to hardcore gamers. A prominent feature that is present in most monitors is anti-glare, where the screen is matte finish.

Reflections on OLED TV
Reflections On OLED TV (Image Credits – AVS)

This isn’t the case for TVs and they reflect a lot of light. This means that you have to position your TV in a way that there is no window or other light source behind you.

Refresh Rates & Response Time

Gaming monitors tend to have very high response times and very low refresh rates. While some TVs also come with 120Hz, making them suitable for gaming, they tend to be on the expensive side and still might not cut it for competitive gamers.

Burn-Ins

This is a common issue with OLED panels where if you stay on a certain image for a lengthy period of time, parts of the image tends to get stuck and would be slightly visible. This is also the case for these TVs just like it is for OLED monitors.

Screen Burn In
Screen Burn In (Image Credits – DisplayNinja)

However, there are lots of ways to prevent burn-ins. One way is to set up a screensaver to initiate after 5 minutes when your PC is idle. This eliminates the risk of any burn-ins, and this is a trick many use to avoid this issue.

Verdict

Conclusively, getting a 4K OLED TV is better than a 4K monitor if you need a large display and want to get rid of a multi-monitor setup. If you’re a competitive gamer, it’s better to stick to a 1440p monitor instead.

This Is How You Can Make Your PC Setup Look Futuristic

Story Highlights
  • Have an ultrawide curved or a standard monitor, but ensure it has a thick stand.
  • Add a TYRX Panoramic CPU cooler inside your PC, all white components, wireless Lian Li fans, curved Zotac 4090 GPU in an FV270 case.
  • Have neat cable management, a large white table with a glossy surface, and some lights that complement the look.

Creating a PC setup that looks futuristic isn’t only about having a perfect RGB or having a minimalistic case. While these can add to the look, it’s all about innovating and blending a style that transforms your setup into something like a sci-fi film.

While you might think that building such a setup would cost you a fortune, it is true to some extent. However, we’ll be giving you the alternative items along with the expensive ones so you can use them for your own build.

Next-Gen Aesthetic Monitor

A central element to putting the entire build together is the monitor. You can opt for the LG’s 5K OLED monitor if you want to go for an absolute overkill of a monitor. But if we’re looking at futuristic-themed monitors, then you have another choice.

3D Monitor

You can get the Samsung 4K Odyssey 3D in either the 27″ or the 34″. The larger size is preferred if you’re rocking a large desk. Not only does this monitor have a sleek, minimalist stand, but it is also 3D without the use of glasses.

As we’re in the theme of futuristic, this 3D technology adds to the performance aspect of this challenge as well. Samsung has been very creative with this monitor, which might be used more in the future.

Ultrawide Monitor

If 3D is not your cup of tea, you can go for an ultrawide monitor, which complements the futuristic theme we’re aiming for. While any ultrawide would be good, the choice boils down to which one has the better-looking stand.

Avoid going for monitors with a thin stand because they look outdated. Instead, going for something like the Samsung 49″ Odyssey OLED G9 or the 45″ UltraGear™ OLED would complement the theme.

Multi-Monitor Setup

For a more affordable option, you can go for a multi-display setup where you can rock two 27″ monitors, but they must be flat to create a seamless view. Furthermore, be sure to have custom wallpaper stretching across both monitors.

Also, ensure that you’re getting two bezel-less monitors or else you’ll get a huge visible border in between that is distracting for a lot of people. The Asus VG27AQ3A is a great choice for this multi-display setup.

PC Specifications

Apart from the monitors, it is important to set up a great PC. For the sake of this article, we’ll not dive too deep into the specifications and performance but focus more on the appearance.

Usually, futuristic and sci-fi themes appear better in white, so we’ll be sticking to the white colour throughout. You can go for any white mouse, keyboard, motherboard, and RAM as long as they look sleek and are white.

Outer-Worldy PC Case

While there are tons of options for the PC case, most look the same with the three glass panels and cubic design. So, to make it look unique while embracing the theme of the future, the white variant of the Cougar FV270 is the best option.

It has a curved glass panel display, and its front side is uniquely elevated from the ground. This gives it a unique look that looks straight from the future. Not only that, but it also has a spot reserved for something to show off.

This spot can support a translucent rotating platform, which is a purchasable option. With this, you can place your action figures as a display, and it’ll rotate around with an RGB light glowing underneath it.

CPU Cooler

As for the CPU cooler, there is no better option than to go for the TRYX Panorama ARGB. This is the world’s first liquid cooler with an L-shaped screen. It has a 6.5″ AMOLED 2K display with a refresh rate of 60Hz.

As an alternative, you could go for the HYTE Thicc Q60, which comes with a 5″ IPS display. Already, your PC would look super clean from this alone. Now comes the part where you install fans in your build.

Wireless PC Fans

For this, nothing else screens futuristic than the Lian Li’s Uni Fan SL Wireless. As the name suggests, these are wireless fans that can be attached to each other by sliding two fans together.

Instead of each set of fans going into your motherboard and then having a controller, all the customisation is controlled by a single wireless dongle, which can be plugged into the USB port, or you can hardwire it to your motherboard.

This eliminates all sorts of wires, making for an extremely clean and minimalistic-looking setup. Not only that, but these fans also have Lian Li’s iconic infinity mirrors on their side, which look futuristic.

GPU With Curves

For the GPU, you can go for the ultra-modern Zotac 4090 PGF in white, which isn’t only white but has curves instead of the standard cubic design. This heavily complements the futuristic theme we’re aiming for.

Other Important Items

Apart from these essentials, having very neat cable management is also important. You should pair this setup with a large glossy white desk. Add neon rope lights behind the desk and set them to purple or blue to complete the look.

What Happened To Xbox Kinect And Why Didn’t Xbox Go For VR

Story Highlights
  • Kinect was released as a revolutionary option after the success of the Wii’s motion-sensing capabilities, as Kinect relied on motion tracking instead.
  • Due to the camera, the game had technical issues, such as players glitching when they came closer together. Also, it got boring for people after a while.
  • Xbox chose not to pursue VR because it believes the market is too small for investment. Perhaps they lost hope due to the failure of Kinect.

When Kinect was released, it felt like something from the future, but today, it is barely remembered by many people. Despite Microsoft pouring tons of money into advertising it, it still eventually died.

But what went wrong with the Xbox Kinect? Sony also adopted a similar technology to the Kinect, but later transitioned to virtual reality (VR). But why didn’t Microsoft take the VR route? Let’s answer both of these questions.

The Birth of Kinect

To understand how Kinect died, let’s start with the beginning of Kinect. In 2009, a new project was announced at E3, known as Project Natal, for the Xbox 360, which was one of the best consoles, partly because of the Kinect.

Following Nintendo’s Footsteps

At first glance, it looked promising and revolutionary. Still, fans quickly realised that this project was following the footsteps of the Wii, which utilised its remote as the input instead of motion capture from a camera.

Then they changed its name to Kinect, and Microsoft started investing half a billion dollars in advertising its launch. They went ahead and advertised on The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Wii’s Overwhelming Success Led To Kinect

Before I get to the part where people purchase Kinect, let me explain why Microsoft decided to create Kinect in the first place. Back in those days, the Wii became a popular console.

It was so successful that it sold 20M more units than the PS2 and Xbox combined. Part of their success was due to their motion input remote system, which was revolutionary at the time.

See, Wii’s added a motion-based remote where you can move it around, and the input will be captured on the screen via the sensor on the Wii console. This allowed games to be physically played, something that had not been done before.

Since the Wii’s remote was fully based on motion sensing, it also had other perks. For instance, it could be added to a purchasable steering wheel to play Mario Kart.

Kinect Was Microsoft’s ‘Revolutionary’ Approach

In light of this monumental success, Sony decided to catch up with the trend by unveiling their PlayStation Move, which also later failed. Seeing all this, Microsoft sought to develop something even bigger.

So, they went ahead and removed the middleman, which was this motion-sensing remote, and instead relied on motion tracking via a camera. So, they advertised it heavily, portraying it as a revolutionary innovation that no one had ever seen.

The Reality Didn’t Match the Hype

With their attempts to market it, people did purchase it only to find out that it wasn’t as functional as the Wii. Since Kinect relied on motion tracking as opposed to the Wii, which used a remote for more accurate input.

Technical Issues

Since Kinect relied on a camera, playing games with others often confused the camera and its sensor, especially when lots of movement was involved. The camera had a certain field of view, which wasn’t the widest, so people had to be closer.

Whenever the arms of the two people came close to each other, the camera couldn’t distinguish the players from one another, causing the players on the screen to glitch and deteriorate.

This was very disappointing, considering the fact that Kinect was primarily designed for use in movement-heavy sports games, where these issues were more likely to occur.

Not Fun For The Long Run

Moreover, when people compared this technology with that of the older Wii, they realised that Kinect wasn’t the best, even though it was new and modern. All of this led to people moving away from the Kinect.

Another reason why Kinect failed was that it just wasn’t fun. The games felt repetitive, and since physical interaction was required, the games were also limited. Despite the initial fun, the novelty wore off quickly after using it.

Kinect’s Death

Then, Microsoft made it mandatory for the Xbox One, which was launched 11 years ago. But even then, nobody cared about it. So, back in 2017, Xbox finally decided to end its production, and they stuck to the normal console ever since.

Why Xbox Didn’t Go For VR

As for Xbox not pursuing VR despite Sony’s approach, it is simply because Xbox believes that the VR market is a small investment opportunity. The head of Xbox Game Studios says that they will wait until there is an audience for it.

Whether this is true or not is something no one can confirm or deny. Perhaps they’ve completely lost hope after the huge investment in Kinect, which led to a total failure.

Oblivion Remaster Looks Incredible But Is It A Faithful Remaster?

Story Highlights
  • Oblivion remaster has had a complete visual overhaul, with every detail, texture, and lighting redone in Unreal Engine 5.
  • They’ve added more insects and marine life, upgraded the audio quality, and retained the jank.
  • However, the remaster lacks the original game’s color palette while retaining its bugs and lengthy loading screens.

Oblivion’s Remaster’s release has been a pleasure to the gaming community, especially for the OG fans that had cherished the original game. Its 200K concurrent players on Steam is a reflection of how well-received the game is.

The game looks incredible, with the classic nostalgic game having a complete overhaul. However, we’ll see if it is limited to just a visual upgrade for a quick cash grab or if Bethesda remained faithful with this remaster.

Visual Upgrade

One of the most prominent features of this remaster is its incredible visuals. Now, the game seems like it has gotten an entire visual overhaul because it has been completely redone in Unreal Engine 5.

This means that all the models, textures, lightings, and everything you can see with your eyes is remade for this remaster. Even the original Oblivion designer praises this remaster, saying that it is more than just a remaster

All the characters’ faces were also redone in the Oblivion Remaster. Moreover, even the main menu underwent a complete overhaul, and it looks stunning with the flames in the background.

Added Features

Along with enhancing the appearance of the game, the remaster has also added many things that were previously missing from the original game, and it completely works in their favor.

Added Insect & Marine Life

Now, more butterflies are flying around the nature-infested areas. Even a group of fish can be found swimming around when you immerse yourself in the dirty lake. Moreover, the oblivion gate is showing you what is inside it.

Upgraded Audio System

A bunch of the audio has also been upgraded, where the older ones could’ve sounded outdated. Every race has distinct dialogues recorded for them, so they all sound different.

This remaster also comes with an added proximity audio system, where the sound of the dialogues will reduce as you move away from the people speaking. This adds to the immersion of the game and is a great addition.

Retained The Older Vibe

You can tell that you’re playing a modern remake of an older game because of how this remaster has captured the essence of the original game. What I mean by that is that the game has included the rugged quality of some mechanics.

Janky Mechanics

The mechanics and the combat aren’t as fluid as they would be in modern games. So, now you’re repeatedly greeted by the fact that you’re playing Oblivion and not mistake it for playing any other new RPG game.

This remaster is so faithful to the original Oblivion game that you can even use the older gameplay guides and walkthroughs for this remaster, and it will work just as perfectly.

Improved Levelling System

The levelling system has been changed for the better, as it was previously very complicated. Now it is similar to Skryim, where you allocate points to ‘3 Attributes to increase’, so it is a lot easier to follow.

Added Sprinting Mechanics

Additionally, you can finally sprint in this remaster, which was missing in the older game, much like it was missing in other older Bethesda games. With this addition, the modern feel is retained.

The Downside

With the goodness of this remaster out of the way, there are a few things that could’ve been improved upon. These aren’t necessarily downsides, but they are something that can be bothersome for many people.

Lack Of Original Color Palette

Although the game looks stunning with the visual upgrade, the most common issue many people find is that the visuals spoil the original world. While there are great textures and lighting, the game is missing the original’s color palette.

Color Palate
Lack Of The Original Color Palette (Image Credits – RPG Codex)

The older game had a green-blue tint in the entire game, which gives it the atmospheric ambiance that Oblivion was known for. Since it’s missing in the remaster, the world appears a lot more like modern games.

However, modders were quick to solve this issue by making and implementing a reshade, which brought back the color of the original game. Fans quickly flocked to this mod to get the same feel in this remaster, and they’re happy now.

Loading Screens

Another thing that Oblivion could’ve improved was the loading screens. Right now, they are just as long as the original game, especially when you go to the overworld. This is unusual to see, as it’s something we don’t typically see in modern games.

Bugs Aren’t Fixed

Much like the original game, this remaster also retains bugs and performance issues. It is a CPU and GPU-intensive game, and even on a high-end PC, it struggles to perform and is prone to stutters and hitches.

Great Remaster Nonetheless

Despite the fewer downsides, this is a great remaster that has already reached 4M players. Fans are now demanding that Skyrim have a similar remaster in Unreal Engine 5, which goes to show the success of this remaster
