From Silicon Forest To Silicon Graveyard: My Thoughts On Intel’s Mass Layoffs

Story Highlight
  • Intel’s workforce numbers have been shrinking year-on-year with 15,900 employees terminated in 2024 including 3,000 Oregon employees.
  • Following the appointment of Lip-Bu Tan as CEO of Intel on 12th March 2025, the company has announced another 15-20% staff cut with emphasis on trimming its production team in the interest of “organisational efficiency”.
  • With just over $7B trapped in yet-to-be-disbursed state and federal funding, Intel’s future remains uncertain, and the only question that remains is if Team Blue will be able to increase business productivity and efficacy to stage what will certainly be considered a miraculous comeback.

To begin with, I’ve been covering tech layoffs for years, but Intel’s latest cuts hit differently.

This isn’t just trimming fat—this is corporate self-amputation on a terrifying scale.

For starters, about 3,000 employees working in Intel’s Silicon Forest Oregon facilities, the heart of its U.S. operations, have already been axed prior to the start of 2025 through layoffs, buyouts, and attrition, leaving just 20,000 still standing.

Moving on, according to an internal email obtained by Oregon Live (and verified by four employees), Intel is slashing another 15-20% of its global production workforce—8,170 to 10,890 people—with no voluntary buyouts, no sugarcoating, just straight-up termination.

This isn’t just another tech layoff. This is Intel in crisis mode. And if they’re not careful, this could backfire catastrophically.

Intel’s Shrinking Workforce: A Disturbing Trend

Let’s rewind.

As of December 28, 2024, Intel employed 108,900 people—down from 124,800 the year before.

Can Intel afford to layoff any more of its employees with crucial (rumoured) CPUs floating on the horizon like the hotly anticipated Core Ultra 9 'Nova Lake-S'? (Image Credits - Tech4Gamers)
Can Intel afford to layoff any more of its employees with crucial (rumoured) CPUs floating on the horizon like the hotly anticipated Core Ultra 9 ‘Nova Lake-S’?

That’s 15,900 jobs gone in 12 months.  Now, they’re cutting another 8,170 to 10,890.

Intel has 15 wafer fabs across 10 global locations, including:

  • Hillsboro, Oregon (Silicon Forest)
  • Leixlip, Ireland
  • Chandler, Arizona
  • Kiryat Gat, Israel

Furthermore, the company claims roughly half its workforce (54,450 people) handles production and fab operations. Meanwhile, the other half’s appointed in R&D, design, sales, administration, and other business units.

And here’s the kicker: None of these divisions are safe.

No Buyouts, No Mercy: Intel’s Ruthless Approach

Unlike past layoffs, Intel isn’t offering voluntary departures. Instead, they’re selectively terminating employees to “reduce management layers and bureaucracy.”

Why? Well, this is all part of newly-appointed CEO Lip-Bu Tan’s plan to restore Intel to its former glory by eliminating “organisational bureaucracy” and establishing a flatter hierarchical structure.

To quote the new CEO, “I’m a big believer in the philosophy that the best leaders get the most done with the fewest people.”

Who’s getting cut?

  • Factory floor workers
  • Tool operators
  • Support personnel
  • Middle management

Who’s (probably) safe?

  • Engineers working on Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography (EUV) and High-NA (Numerical Aperture) EUV (critical for next-gen chips)
  • Top-performing R&D staff
The Core Ultra 200 Series codenamed 'Arrow Lake-S' represents Intel's latest slew of consumer-grade desktop CPUs. (Image Credits - Intel)
Intel really can’t afford to lose any of its highly technical production staff as those employees are directly responsible for the creation of Team Blue’s next-generation CPUs like the Intel Core Ultra 200 Series codenamed ‘Arrow Lake-S’. (Image Credits – Intel)

But even that’s not guaranteed. If a process gets automated, even EUV specialists could be on the chopping block.

The Hidden Cost Of Layoffs: A Ticking Time Bomb

On paper, layoffs save money.

But in reality? They wreck operational efficiency.

The Domino Effect:

  1. Fewer workers = slower response times to equipment failures.
  2. Slower responses = more fab downtime.
  3. More downtime = missed production deadlines.
  4. Missed deadlines = lost contracts.
  5. Lost contracts = even more layoffs.

And let’s not forget the human cost. The remaining employees will be overworked, stressed, and more likely to quit—creating a vicious cycle of turnover and instability.

Intel is playing with fire. Cut too deep, and the entire operation collapses.

The CHIPS Act Crisis: Will Intel Lose Billions In Funding?

Here’s where things get really messy.

Intel was promised $7.86 billion from the CHIPS Act, but so far, they’ve only received $1 billion.

The rest? Stuck in political limbo.

The Trump Factor: Will Intel Get Along?

Trump’s newly-instated administration has made a series of drastic announcements including hiking trade tariffs worldwide.

Considering that the $7.86 billion CHIPS Act’s terms were finalised by the Biden-Harris administration, it’s quite possible that the new administration might revoke the remaining CHIPS funding if it deems Intel to be unworthy of it.

That’s $6.86 billion—gone.

Intel’s Layoffs: Oregon’s $115 Million Gamble

The state pledged $115 million in tax breaks and grants—but only if Intel meets hiring and revenue targets.

However, with these layoffs, those targets just got a lot harder to hit.

If Intel fails, Oregon could pull funding entirely, leaving Intel in an even deeper financial hole.

Is Intel Sacrificing Its Future For Short-Term Survival?

This isn’t just about layoffs. This is about Intel’s survival.

  • AMD is dominating in CPUs.
  • Nvidia owns AI.
  • TSMC is years ahead in fabrication.

Intel’s response? Slash jobs, pray for funding, and hope for the best.

But here’s the brutal truth: You can’t cut your way to innovation.

If Intel keeps gutting its workforce, there won’t be enough talent left to stage a comeback.

The next 12 months will decide Intel’s fate. And right now? The odds aren’t looking good.

Hideo Kojima Feared Never Finishing Death Stranding 2, Thanks Fans For The Support

Story Highlight
  • Death Stranding 2 has officially been released, and fans are loving it.
  • Hideo Kojima has recently revealed that he feared during the pandemic that the studio might never finish this game.
  • However, now that it has been released, Kojima is overwhelmed with emotions.

Death Stranding 2 has been released worldwide, and it seems like fans are thoroughly enjoying the title. There are some who have already played it thanks to the early access, and they are calling it a GOTY contender, which makes sense given it is a game by Hideo Kojima.

Death Stranding 2 received a solid rating from critics, which Kojima may not have appreciated, as he aims to create something new and, of course, unconventional. The legendary auteur recently revealed that he feared never finishing the game and thanked the fans for their support.

Why it matters: Kojima is known for his creativity in video games as he is one of the legendary figures in the industry. His previous title featured a pretty weird plot, so fans always expect him to come up with more bizarre things.

Death Stranding 2 Hideo Kojima
Hideo Kojima Thanks The Fandom For Showing Love To His Recent Game

Kojima recently thanked the fandom on X, formerly known as Twitter, and hopes that everyone enjoys the title. He further stated that there were moments when he truly thought the game might never be finished, and that reaching this point is quite overwhelming for him

During the pandemic, there were moments when I truly felt like we might never finish this game… To have made it to this day is overwhelming.

-Hideo Kojima

Fans are also congratulating the auteur for making such a tremendously great game. The pandemic was a rough time for everyone, so it is a good thing to see Kojima making it through the rough times and giving fans a masterpiece

Many fans are also inquiring about the PC port, as they are growing impatient with the game’s current console-only release. As of now, there are no plans for the PC release, but it is expected to be released within a year, as Sony has been focusing on PC ports lately.

What do you think of Hideo Kojima saying the game may have never been completed? Have you tried it out yet? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion

Making Safe Bets Is A Death Sentence As Gamers Want New Experiences, Says Dev

Story Highlight
  • The developer behind Rematch states that players want innovation, and playing it safe is a death sentence.
  • This is why the team began working on Rematch before Sifu’s release.
  • Sloclap states that studios should not let the success of a single title dictate their next move.

The gaming industry increasingly favors innovation today after opting to stick with tried-and-true game design over the past few years. With small studios like Sandfall Interactive producing major hits like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the industry has realized the need to move away from safe bets.

Another such game has recently created a lot of buzz in the market, and the creative director of the project believes new and original experiences are key to growth for the industry.

Why it matters: Each new gaming release is riskier than the last, so companies can sometimes play it too safe. However, innovation is still a key component of the gaming industry.

Rematch
Rematch Has Reached 3 Million Players Already

Speaking to Edge, Pierre Tarno, creative director at Sloclap Studio, discussed the team’s latest release.

For context, this is the same studio that brought interesting games like Sifu and Absolver to fans of mixed martial arts, highlighting a distinct take on close-quarters combat. The studio’s latest release, however, is Rematch, an arcade football game.

Following the success of this release, Pierre Tarno discussed the thought process behind trying something so different. As per the director, Rematch was already in development before Sifu’s release.

He believes that studios should always be willing to try different things and never let the success of a project dictate their next move. According to his statement, playing it safe could be a death sentence for a studio.

Chasing safe bets is a death sentence. I think gamers are on the lookout for new, original experiences.

-Pierre Tarno

Perhaps this approach is exactly why Rematch is so successful. Although the game has competition from the likes of FIFA, it taps into the more arcade style of football that has been missing from the industry for quite a few years.

It’s also clear that Sloclap poured a lot of passion into the project.

Indie Games Feat
Smaller Games Are Doing Better Than Ever

Of course, various other developers have adopted the same approach recently. Perhaps this is why many believe the indie/AA gaming scene will eventually outgrow AAA releases that are based on a very formulaic approach.

What are your thoughts on the director’s statement? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Fans Argue Decima Engine Is Much Better Than Unreal Engine 5 After Death Stranding 2

Story Highlight
  • Fans state that Decima Engine is better than Unreal Engine 5 based on Death Stranding 2.
  • PlayStation’s in-house engine offers superior visuals with better optimizations.
  • Unreal Engine 5 has great visuals, but it suffers from massive performance issues.

Death Stranding 2 is finally out, bringing revolutionary graphics to the PS5 with optimization so good that everyone has been forced to praise Kojima Productions. And at the center of it all is PlayStation’s Decima Engine.

Fans are debating that the Decima Engine is superior to Unreal Engine 5, as it offers a significantly better gaming experience compared to the latter, which is often criticized for its significant performance issues

Why it matters: Decima has always shown its class, whether it’s with the Horizon series or something else, but with Death Stranding 2, Kojima Productions has taken it to a whole new level

Fans have taken to X to praise Decima Engine. Created by Guerrilla Games for Horizon: Zero Dawn, the engine was further improved by Kojima for Death Stranding. However, its latest form is the best yet, as seen with Death Stranding 2.

Many claim that the engine is in a ‘league of its own’, especially based on how detailed the character models are, and how graphically insane it is. It achieves this visual fidelity without even integrating tech like ray tracing, nanite, and more.

death stranding 2
Death Stranding 2 takes visuals and optimizations to the next level thanks to the Decima Engine

That’s also a huge reason why the optimization is so good. Death Stranding 2 runs at 1440p 60 FPS on base PS5 without any frame drops. Eliminating ray tracing and similar tech offers huge performance benefits.

There is also the fact that Kojima only had to focus on one platform for optimization. However, it is truly remarkable how great a game can look despite omitting Unreal Engine, and Kojima Productions deserves massive credit for that.

New Xbox Layoffs Could Affect 2000 Jobs, Entire Studio Closures Expected

Story Highlight
  • Industry veteran and one of Duke Nukem’s creators, George Broussard, claims that upcoming Xbox layoffs may affect 2000 people.
  • Besides the staggering figure, the dreaded tidal wave could also cause entire studios to shut down under the Xbox gaming division.
  • Other reports have also suggested that Xbox is going to be hit by layoffs, but no one expected them to be on such a large scale.

Ever since COVID, the gaming scene has been hit with hundreds of layoffs that have affected many developers and led to the closure of studios. Microsoft has also cut thousands of employees over the years, and now a new wave will target the Xbox brand specifically.

A report yesterday revealed that Microsoft is now planning major job cuts for its gaming brand that will begin next week. However, now the industry veteran and one of Duke Nukem’s creators, George Broussard, claims that as many as 2000 workers could be impacted.

Why it matters: While layoffs have grown to become a common occurrence in the industry, the upcoming round might even cause irreparable damage to the Xbox division if the current report fully hits the mark.

Popular industry veteran claims entire studios might close because of the coming layoffs.

As per George’s warning on Bluesky, the layoffs will be so devastating this time around that entire studios might end up closing. Therefore, many developers across most studios have been left anxious and worried about their future with the Xbox brand.

While the figures might be a bit exaggerated, George suggests that about 10% of the Xbox gaming brand, or even more, might be culled by Microsoft starting next week.

Microsoft has already cut back on many employees earlier this year, which also affected the Xbox brand. Similarly, 1900 developers were also fired by the company last year to cut back massively on its gaming division, including Activision Blizzard and ZeniMax.

We've seen too many layoffs lately (Image by Tech4Gamers)
Major waves of layoffs have haunted the industry over the last five years.

So, while the future of Xbox’s upcoming gaming and even next-gen console lineup may look bright, the same cannot be said about the current morale and job security across the brand as a whole. Regardless, it is best to take these reports with a pinch of salt for now.

Do you think the approaching wave of layoffs will hit Xbox harder than ever before, or will it be similar to all the previous dismissals we have seen over the years? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Xbox Seems To Have Fully Abandoned Physical Media

Story Highlight
  • It was previously hinted that Xbox has stopped selling the physical disc of video games.
  • Further proof of the gaming giant abandoning physical media has appeared.
  • Cronos: The New Dawn will not be available on a physical disc for Xbox Series S|X.

Some time ago, Xbox changed its strategy in order to survive in the gaming market. It is well-known that the gaming giant has been struggling to sell consoles for some time now, which is concerning for the parent company, Microsoft.

That is precisely why the parent company decided to make it a subscription-based business. We can already see the company focusing more on Game Pass than anything else, as it is also completely abandoning physical media

Why it matters: Fans love physical discs because that way they can have a collection, or they can exchange them with other games. While the industry may be moving more toward digital media, the love for physical may never cease to exist

Bloober Team's Agreement With Bandai Namco
Bloober Team’s Agreement With Bandai Namco

Previously, it was reported that Xbox had quietly stopped selling physical disc games, which was a significant concern among the fandom. However, that report wasn’t enough to establish a solid foundation for belief

However, it has just been revealed that the upcoming horror title from Bloober Team, Cronos: The New Dawn, will not have a physical release on the Xbox Series S|X.

The developer has signed a major contract with Bandai Namco for the distribution of the game on PS5 and PC in Europe, the Middle East, and Australia. It should also be noted that in North and South America, Skybound Games will publish the PS5 physical copies

The production of a boxed version of the game and the distribution of the Issuer’s game “Cronos: The New Dawn” on PlayStation 5 and PC platforms in Europe, the Middle East and Australia by Bandai Namco.

-Contract

The contract does not mention any information about the physical media of Xbox Series S|X. Therefore, it is fair to assume that Xbox has abandoned physical media

You may also notice that more and more games are not getting physical releases on Xbox consoles, as it appears to be part of a plan to attract more consumers to Game Pass. The gaming giant has also received a lot of heat for pricing Outer Worlds 2 at $80, but it will release day one on Game Pass, which is also pretty fishy.

What do you think about this new strategy from Xbox? Do you think it is fair for the gaming giant to stop selling physical media of games quietly? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion.

Nintendo Switch 2 Attracts Controversy, Display Is 50% Slower Than Predecessor

Story Highlight
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 was already plagued with numerous issues, as tech experts have pointed out several negatives this month.
  • Recently, a new analysis has revealed a particularly disappointing problem.
  • It has been revealed that the Switch 2 display is 50% slower than its predecessor.

Nintendo Switch 2 attracted a lot of hype when it wasn’t officially announced. The rumours hyped the fandom a lot, but when the actual product was launched, there wasn’t much buzz around it

Despite that, it managed to sell pretty well in the initial week, mainly because of how big of a cult the original Switch managed to make. Just a little while after launch, the console managed to attract even more controversy. It has been revealed that the latest Switch 2 display is 50% slower than its predecessor

Why it matters: The Next generation of a console should always be superior to the previous one in all aspects, no matter what the case is. However, Nintendo failed to do so in its recent release, which is pretty disappointing.

You may have already seen people literally bashing the display of Switch 2 and ranting about how bad it is. Even Digital Foundary was disappointed, as the console’s display is subpar, and scrolling would cause some blurring.

Now, the latest analysis from Monitor Unboxed reveals something even more disappointing. For those not in the know, there is no HDR in the console, and there were some refresh rate issues, but what Monitor Unboxed has revealed is perhaps the most disappointing of all.

The YouTuber has reviewed the screen’s response time and has revealed that it is actually 50% slower than the original Nintendo Switch. According to the Monitor Unboxed’s analysis, the average response time of the handheld is 33 milliseconds, while the original Switch’s response time is 21 milliseconds.

black ops 7 switch 2
As Per A Recent Report, Black Ops 7 May Launch on The Latest Nintendo Console

The YouTuber revealed that one of the main reasons behind this extremely disappointing result is a lack of Overdrive technology, which, by the way, is mandatory in this generation on almost every single display.

The blurring while simple scrolling may also be due to this response time. It should be noted that the Switch 2 comes with a larger display, higher brightness and, resolution than the original handheld which impact the battery health.

Therefore, it is likely that the Overdrive technology is missing from the latest console, as it also ultimately affects battery life. Analyst Thinks AMD Can Go Toe-To-Toe With Nvidia Amid 7% Rise in Shares

Story Highlight
  • After dominating the CPU market, it appears that AMD is making quite progress in the GPU market.
  • According to an analyst, the company is expected to close the gap with Nvidia by 2026.
  • Recently, the company’s share price also increased by 7%, further backing such claims.

AMD is no stranger when it comes to developing Graphics Cards and Processors. While the company is an expert in the latter, it might need some work in the former category. The tech giant does have some of the best, or perhaps even the best, budget gaming GPUs, but it still lacks a bit in the AI technology, which gives Nvidia the upper hand.

However, the company appears to be focusing on its weaknesses, as an analyst has revealed that it is on track to attain the same heights as Nvidia, which has caused the company’s share price to increase by 7%.

Why it matters: Nvidia used to dominate the GPU market alone, but now AMD has made significant progress, making it a solid competitor.

AMD 9070 XT
AMD Is Making A Lot of Progress With Its Graphics Card After Fully Dominating the CPU Market

CFRA analyst Angelo Zino is the one who revealed why the firm decided to increase AMD’s share price. The price has been increased from $125 to $165. Zino thinks that in 2026, the company can close the gap with Nvidia, which is arguably a strong claim.

Fans should note that these claims are not just thrown in the air by the analyst; these are backed with facts, but in this market, you can never be too sure of the future. As of now, Nvidia is leading the market with its AI GPUs, but the analyst strongly believes that AMD can also be very successful in the AI GPU market.

CRFA also believes that the acquisition of ZT Systems will play a vital role in AMD closing the competitive gap with Nvidia. That is because this deal will enable the company to broaden its customer base, which will help it attract major players like OpenAI and Oracle.

Nvidia Is The World’s Largest Company Right Now

For those not in the know, these companies mentioned above play a significant role in the AI industry, and including them would be a huge win for AMD. That said, it may still be too soon to decide what the company’s future holds, but it does look bright.

What do you think about AMD potentially closing the competitive gap with Nvidia? Do you think the company can achieve this tremendous victory by 2026? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion

GTA 6 Confirmed For Xbox Series S As The Game Shows Available To Wishlist On The Platform

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 is finally available to wishlist on Xbox Series X|S, confirming that it will release on the Series S console.
  • Previously, fans were doubtful that the budget console would be able to run the game.
  • Analysts predict a 720p resolution upcaled to 900p/1080p for GTA 6 on the Series S.

Even though Rockstar has delayed GTA 6 to 2026, we already have our first in-game look for the title, and it’s nothing short of spectacular. As usual, Rockstar has set a new precedent for visuals and details in a video game.

With all the impressive visuals and details the game has, it’s not unusual for fans to be sceptical of the Xbox Series S being able to run the game. However, the game is now available to wishlist on the Xbox Series S, confirming that the console will be capable of running GTA 6.

Why it matters: Xbox Series S has shown signs of struggle running AAA games, so it’s natural to assume that Rockstar will be skipping the release on the device. However, Series S fans will be pleased to know that the game will be released on their entry-level consoles.

gta 6 wishlist xbox series x s
GTA 6 Is Available To Wishlist For Xbox Series X|S

Still, the final result wouldn’t be as pretty compared to the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions. If anything, Rockstar would have to significantly downgrade the release in terms of visuals and in-game resolution.

The game already looks impressive, and the Series S port will still be quite pretty even with the visual downgrades. Analysts have predicted that GTA 6 will run at 720p, upscaled to 900p or 1080p resolution, on the Xbox Series S.

GTA 6
GTA 6 Will Boost Xbox Sales Significantly

For contrast, GTA 5, a release more than a decade old, runs at 1440p 30FPS on fidelity mode with occasional frame drops and performance hiccups.

The entry-level console still targets 1080p gaming, so it doesn’t offer a significant bargain. CDPR also plans to deliver a similar performance with the upcoming Witcher 4, which many speculate will be downgraded to 30 FPS, unlike the 60 FPS experience on the Xbox Series X and PS5.

As Users Continue Reporting PS5 Liquid Metal Issue, Dev Warns It Could Kill Consoles In A Couple Of Years

Story Highlight
  • Path of Titans players have reported PS5 consoles overheating and shutting down, which resulted from Liquid Metal issues.
  • Early PS5 models are most prone to this issue, with the vertical position causing Liquid Metal to drip on one side.
  • The dev warns that this issue could cause the console to fail within a couple of years.

While Sony has consistently worked on improving the PS5 console design, the earlier models came with a major flaw. Being the first Sony console to use Liquid Metal, the new custom cooling method was brilliant on paper, but Sony failed to foresee the problems it could bring later on.

Over time, the Liquid Metal can dry out, causing dry spots on the APU and leading to overheating, which may result in the console being shut down. The problem remains evident to date, and as users continue to report such issues, one dev warns that it could render the consoles unusable within a couple of years.

Why it matters: While not as serious as Xbox 360’s Red Ring of Death, the PS5’s design flaw could kill the consoles. It’s important to raise awareness among users to stay vigilant about this issue.

In the latest video by Moore’s Law is Dead, Path of Titans studio Aldron Games’ founder, Matthew Cassells, talked about the rise in recent reports contributing to the PS5 being shut down due to the Liquid Metal issue.

According to him, 2-3% of Path of Titans players on the PS5 reported this issue. Initially, the issue was difficult to identify because the PS5 couldn’t track GPU and CPU temperatures through software.

The Liquid Metal issue is prevalent in older PS5 consoles, while newer PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro models have been released with updated designs to address this issue.

Sony PlayStation 5
PS5 Has Finally Overtaken PS4 In Monthly Users

Cassells has suggested that Sony establish a free repair service for affected users to address the Liquid Metal issues. Such a program will cost Sony a pretty penny because almost every initial PS5 model was flawed.

Still, if the concern is not addressed, Cassells believe that many consoles will die in a couple years of time.

To avoid liquid metal leaks, early PS5 units shouldn’t be used vertically. Users are also advised to replace the liquid metal after a few years or if heat or shutdown problems arise.

What are your thoughts on this story? Have you reported any overheating issues with your PS5? Let us know in the comments below, or at the official Tech4Gamers Forums.

Blood Message To Release Sooner Than Expected; Possible H2 2026 Launch

Story Highlight
  • Blood Message is expected to launch in the second half of 2026, which is earlier than previously anticipated.
  • It’s rumored to be priced at $70, in line with other major AAA releases.
  • Developed on Unreal Engine 5, its gameplay takes inspiration from the God of War series.

Reliable Chinese games insider Lunatic Ignus recently revealed new details about Blood Message – a new single-player AAA title from the developers of Marvel Rivals. According to the insider, the game may launch in the second half of 2026, sooner than previously expected.

Why it matters: This is a much tighter turnaround than many expected for a game of this scale.

Blood Message Launching 2026
More details about Blood Message. | Source: Lunatic Ignus

Blood Message was officially revealed as a story-focused, linear action-adventure game set in 848 AD during the late Tang Dynasty. Players will take the role of a nameless messenger traveling with his young son on a dangerous journey to deliver an important message that could save their homeland.

Built using Unreal Engine 5, the game’s trailer shows off photo-realistic visuals, featuring sweeping deserts and detailed buildings inspired by historical settings.

Now, insider Lunatic Ignus has revealed more interesting details about the game. According to the insider, the game was greenlit in 2018 but officially entered full production in 2021.

The game’s design draws heavy inspiration from the God of War franchise. Some fans have also noted similarities to the Uncharted series.

It’s led by a director who’s reportedly a close friend of Feng Ji, the director behind Black Myth: Wukong. That creative connection hints at a strong design pedigree.

Initially, insiders expected NetEase to announce a release date in 2023, but it was delayed. Lunatic Ignus shared that the developers needed extra time to improve the combat and graphics. Now, the game is aiming for a release in the second half of 2026, around six months sooner than most fans expected.

Blood Message Featured
Blood Message tells an emotional story of “unsung heroes” set on a journey through collapsing empires.

One important point from Lunatic Ignus is that Blood Message will probably launch at $70, just like other AAA games. This hints at NetEase’s plans to prioritise quality and offer an unforgettable experience.

Regardless, Blood Message is shaping up to be another banger from a Chinese studio. Following the success of Black Myth: Wukong, Chinese developers are focusing on shipping more AAA single-player titles.
