Xbox Appears To Have Quietly Stopped Selling Physical Game Discs

No More Physical Discs From Xbox?

Story Highlight
  • Xbox appears to have discontinued selling physical discs of video games.
  • A video game store recently mentioned not selling Xbox versions because, instead of discs, they contained codes.
  • So, only the PlayStation 5 version of those would consist of actual discs.

From what we have seen in the last couple of years, things have been pretty rough for Xbox. The competitor that was in the PS3 era is just no longer there. Due to that, the upper echelons at Microsoft decided to make it a subscription-based model, which seems to be working, so far, at least.

However, it isn’t working that well, as Game Pass subscribers aren’t increasing in massive numbers. In spite of that, the company has made a pretty weird move. It seems Xbox has given up on the physical game discs, too.

Why it matters: Many companies are focusing on promoting digital games exclusively, as this is more beneficial to them. However, physical games are more beneficial to the users as they can sell a game after playing or collect them.

Ninja Gaiden 4, Outer Worlds 2, and Gears of War Reloaded, all three of these games will have physical discs on the PlayStation 5, but they won’t have one on the Xbox Series S|X. Instead of a disc, there will be a code inside the box, which has angered the fandom.

VGP has confirmed that it will not carry the Xbox Deluxe version of these games; they are just codes in the box. Xbox seems to be making a really bad decision here, as the situation is becoming controversial

Code in the box is crazy. If i want digital then ill buy from the digital store. If i want physical i want a cartridge or a disc in the case period.

So, if you have a PlayStation 5, then you have a disc of any of these three games. If you are on an Xbox and want to obtain the discs, you may not get your hands on one.

Microsoft has not commented on this matter, so it is best to wait for the company to address this issue. What do you think about this whole situation?
