Reliable Chinese games insider Lunatic Ignus recently revealed new details about Blood Message – a new single-player AAA title from the developers of Marvel Rivals. According to the insider, the game may launch in the second half of 2026, sooner than previously expected.

Why it matters: This is a much tighter turnaround than many expected for a game of this scale.

Blood Message was officially revealed as a story-focused, linear action-adventure game set in 848 AD during the late Tang Dynasty. Players will take the role of a nameless messenger traveling with his young son on a dangerous journey to deliver an important message that could save their homeland.

Built using Unreal Engine 5, the game’s trailer shows off photo-realistic visuals, featuring sweeping deserts and detailed buildings inspired by historical settings.

Now, insider Lunatic Ignus has revealed more interesting details about the game. According to the insider, the game was greenlit in 2018 but officially entered full production in 2021.

The game’s design draws heavy inspiration from the God of War franchise. Some fans have also noted similarities to the Uncharted series.

It’s led by a director who’s reportedly a close friend of Feng Ji, the director behind Black Myth: Wukong. That creative connection hints at a strong design pedigree.

Initially, insiders expected NetEase to announce a release date in 2023, but it was delayed. Lunatic Ignus shared that the developers needed extra time to improve the combat and graphics. Now, the game is aiming for a release in the second half of 2026, around six months sooner than most fans expected.

Blood Message tells an emotional story of “unsung heroes” set on a journey through collapsing empires.

One important point from Lunatic Ignus is that Blood Message will probably launch at $70, just like other AAA games. This hints at NetEase’s plans to prioritise quality and offer an unforgettable experience.

Regardless, Blood Message is shaping up to be another banger from a Chinese studio. Following the success of Black Myth: Wukong, Chinese developers are focusing on shipping more AAA single-player titles.
