Despite its popularity, the company seems to have landed in hot water over how its memory kits are advertised. A lawsuit filed over falsely advertised RAM speeds is now moving forward with a proposed settlement of over $5 million.
Why it matters: PC memory is typically advertised with the maximum speed on the box, but this is hardly news to most enthusiasts.

The lawsuit, originally filed as early as 2022, claimed that Corsair failed to clarify the required steps needed to achieve advertised memory speeds for the Vengeance and Dominator DDR4/DDR5 kits.
Most PC gamers are well aware of the process of achieving XMP speeds, which usually requires no more than a few toggles in the BIOS. However, the lawsuit alleges that these speeds are falsely advertised over the JEDEC standards of DDR4-2133 and DDR5-4800.
Although Corsair initially attempted to strike back against the lawsuit, a settlement proposal has now moved forward in the US federal court. As it stands, Corsair is on track to pay out $5.5 million to owners of certain DDR4 and DDR5 kits sold between 2018 and 2025.
The company is also expected to modify RAM advertisement moving forward, adding a disclaimer that XMP speeds are not to be mistaken for the out-of-the-box RAM speeds.

Because this is something that is not exclusive to Corsair, other manufacturers will likely follow suit in a similar manner.

MP1st, a reliable publication known for accurately reporting video game leaks, has revealed that Insomniac’s Wolverine is set to release next year, and that the Venom spin-off many believed had been canceled is still in active development.
Insomniac suffered a massive data breach two years ago, so it’s understandable why some fans doubted whether the studio would follow the previously leaked development schedule. However, it’s reassuring to know that two of the most anticipated titles are still on track.
Additionally, new details about the Venom spin-off recently emerged. The report revealed that the game’s combat and traversal systems are nearly complete. It also stated that the story has been polished and that motion capture and voice lines from Tony Todd have already been recorded.
It is important to note that none of this information is official, so it is best to take it with a grain of salt until confirmed by Insomniac or Sony.

Rip And Tear
Very Few Games Can Match Doom Eternal’s Power Trip
Doom Eternal, more than any other game in the series, is about embodying the Doom Slayer, a larger-than-life figure in the Doom mythos.
The game practically overwhelms the players with tools to ‘Rip and Tear.’ In many ways, it lets you become the final boss, only demanding mastery over the core shooting mechanics in return.
This tagline alone sold millions of players on the game, and for those still on the fence, Doom Eternal can be easily accessed by buying Xbox Game Pass Core on Eneba, a trusted digital marketplace.
Between glory kills, two different types of grenades, the BFG, a recharging chainsaw, and the Crucible, Doom Eternal throws so many tools at players that it can often become overwhelming.

When used together, these tools make quick work of the forces of hell. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as eliminating demon after demon while rapidly switching between weapons like the Super Shotgun and Ballista (my personal favorite combo on Nightmare difficulty).
During my most memorable moments with Doom Eternal, I felt an unparalleled sense of adrenaline rushing through me as I blasted demons after latching on to them with the Super Shotgun’s Meat Hook. Simply put, the core combat loop is a work of art that very few games can rival.
Music That Pumps Your Soul With Adrenaline
You don’t need to take my word for how good the series’ soundtrack is, but Doom and Mick Gordon really were a match made in heaven. Doom 2016’s soundtrack was already full of heavy metal goodness, but the Australian composer truly outdid himself with his work on the follow-up.
Each track in Doom Eternal emanates a sense of raw, brute force fitting of the Doom Slayer. When paired with pivotal moments like the Doom Slayer’s first use of the Crucible, tracks like ‘The Only Thing They Fear Is You’ make for an unforgettable experience.
Mick Gordon’s expertly crafted soundtrack serves as the perfect companion to the player’s rage-fueled mayhem through Doom Eternal, and the lack of his personal touch is felt greatly when playing Doom: The Dark Ages.
Expanding The Doom Lore
Doom Eternal Fleshed Out The Series’ Lore With The DLC
Having completed the base game, I thought Doom Eternal had played all its cards. After all, there’s only so much a game can do before it runs out of steam. However, Doom Eternal’s DLC impressed me in ways I never saw coming.
Not only did id Software dial the gameplay up a notch yet again for the DLC, but the team also managed to hook me with the narrative side of the series through The Ancient Gods DLC.
Learning about Samur Maykr and the origins of the Doom Slayer was fascinating for me. The DLC also ended on an incredibly high note, culminating in an epic showdown with Davoth, the Dark Lord.
This character serves as the perfect mirror to the Doom Slayer’s character, both literally and thematically, and I immediately wanted to learn more about him after wrapping up the DLC.

Unreal Engine 5 games like Cronos: The New Dawn and Fortnite have been tested on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Both titles forego the use of Lumen, Nanite, and Virtual Shadow Maps on this console.

Unreal Engine 5 is the most popular engine available on the market today. Games like Fortnite have already shown encouraging results on even less capable consoles like the Xbox Series S, but the same is not the case for the Nintendo Switch 2.
In fact, analysis shows the console may not be built for such features.
Why it matters: Recent releases like Star Wars Outlaws have shown that the Nintendo console is capable of punching above its weight in many instances. Past rumors also suggested the hardware would be well-suited to Unreal Engine 5.
The team at Digital Foundry recently looked at Fortnite, Cronos: The New Dawn, and Split Fiction running on the Nintendo Switch 2.
All three games make use of Unreal Engine 5, with the first two relying on Lumen and Nanite on all platforms. Unfortunately, these features are not present in the Nintendo Switch 2.
For starters, Cronos: The New Dawn ditches both Lumen and Nanite on the hybrid console. This leads to less intense lighting with missing details like flashlight bounce. In many ways, the game produces results similar to the “Very Low” settings PC preset.
Like the console, this preset also uses Cascaded Shadow Maps instead of Virtual Shadow Maps, in addition to lower detail models and assets. Looking at Fortnite, the game runs at 60FPS on the new Nintendo hardware, but it does so without using Lumen, Nanite, or Virtual Shadow Maps.
This makes for completely different lighting on the Nintendo Switch 2, and the absence of Nanite also leads to pop-in and models that often look blocky and angular. Similarly, Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch 2 uses cascaded shadow maps compared to the virtual shadow maps on the Xbox Series S.
Vegetation is another element that looks inferior on the Nintendo hardware due to the lack of Nanite.
It would be cool to see these features coming out on the Switch 2, but maybe it’s not realistic at this time.

Split Fiction, like the other games, runs on Unreal Engine 5. However, it does not make use of the aforementioned features on any platform. Still, the title runs at 30FPS while showing various compromises compared to the Xbox Series S.
UE5 Seems To Be Too Much For The Switch 2
These results show that perhaps Unreal Engine 5’s headlining features are too much for the Nintendo Switch 2. In particular, the fact that Epic Games itself foregoes these features for Fortnite might be a strong indication of this fact.

Battlefield 6 Beta Was Described As ‘Polished’ By Many Players
Talking to Kotaku, Battlefield 6 technical director Christian Buhl did acknowledge the challenges that went into running the game well on Xbox Series S.
I will say that the biggest thing we did that was a challenge for us was (dealing with the console’s limited) memory..
They also acknowledged that the Xbox Series S has less memory than a mid-spec PC and that the game was continuously crashing 6-12 months ago on the budget console. As such, the team focused on optimizing the game’s memory overall and specifically for the Xbox Series S.
The end result was that the game was more stable and performed better on all platforms thanks to the memory optimization.
On Xbox Series S, Battlefield 6 Beta hit a consistent 60FPS on 1080p resolution with just a little sacrifice in visual fidelity, like low-resolution shadows, scaled-down terrain, etc.
Previously, the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 developers had a similar statement, saying that the game’s good optimization is partially due to the effort put into it specifically for the Xbox Series S.

Why it matters: Major releases like Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake and Gears of War: Reloaded also launched in August, which makes Mafia: The Old Country’s achievement even more impressive.
The latest Mafia title is the most profitable game among all new releases in August 2025.
GameDiscoverCo has released a list of new Steam’s top 10 most profitable games for August 2025, and Mafia: The Old Country has taken the top spot.
Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake and Titan Quest 2 followed in second and third place, respectively. The latest Mafia title earned an estimated profit of $18.8 million, while MGS3 Remake brought in around $14.9 million.
Mafia: The Old Country launched at a mid-tier price point of $50, while Titan Quest 2 was more budget-friendly at $30. In contrast, Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake carried a premium price tag of $70.
Titan Quest 2 launched on August 1 and sold approximately 432,100 copies during the month. Meanwhile, Mafia: The Old Country, which was released on August 7, sold around 427,000 copies, only slightly behind despite releasing nearly a week later.
Mafia: The Old Country Review Score on Metacritic Wasn’t That High
Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake, on the other hand, was released much later in the month, on August 28, yet still managed to sell around 238,900 copies in just three days. That’s an incredibly strong start for such a short window.
Given these figures, it’s reasonable to assume that had MGS3 Remake launched earlier, on par with the other two titles, it could have easily secured the top-grossing position for the month.
Surprisingly, Gears of War: Reloaded did not make it into the top 10. The game only generated $2 million in profit, less than both Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 and The Bazaar.

Borderlands 4 has shown a lot of promise so far, but the game seems to have been held back by its performance on PC. Although Gearbox has shared an optimization guide from Nvidia, many players remain adamant that the performance is simply not as good as it should be.
Responding to the critics, the Gearbox CEO recently took to Twitter and discussed how Borderlands 4 is doing so far. He believes that the game is fine and does not necessarily need additional patches to improve performance.
Why it matters: Poor performance on Unreal Engine 5 games has become a common talking point recently, and Borderlands 4 is the latest game caught in the middle of this discussion.
Taking to Twitter, Randy Pitchfold recently claimed that 120FPS is very achievable when playing Borderlands 4.
He urged gamers to make the right tweaks and changes to achieve this frame rate, suggesting that experimenting with different settings is the key to ensuring the game runs as well as possible.
Randy Pitchford also noted that while the team is working on changes behind the scenes, players need not wait for a patch to have Borderlands 4 running at higher frame rates.
You don’t have to wait for a patch to get nice frame rate with BL4.
In the same thread, he suggested enabling hardware scheduling for Windows 10 users and turning off Volumetric Fog and ray-traced lighting. Moreover, the Gearbox boss recommends relying on DLSS, claiming that the difference in input latency from DLSS is negligible.
In fact, he believes less than 0.01% of players would be able to detect the latency difference in a blind test. Because the latency was a key focus here, Randy Pitchford likely referred to DLSS Frame Generation for the latest Nvidia graphics cards.
Borderlands 4 Gameplay Seems To Be Just As Fun As Past Releases
Interestingly, many users in the replies have noted that certain suggestions from Randy Pitchford cannot be implemented in Borderlands 4 without editing configuration files. It goes without saying, but the general audience is still not convinced by Gearbox’s work on the PC optimization.

Nintendo has joined the all-digital club, with the latest Switch 2 handheld featuring a Game Key-Card, which acts as a digital key to download the game but does not store data itself.
As such, the Game Key-Cards have been attracting their fair share of controversy and pushback from gamers. Amid this backlash, a former Capcom dev has come forward to voice his support for Nintendo, saying that Game Key-Cards are meant to protect the industry.
Why it matters: Going all-digital risks the loss of media since not every file will remain relevant on the internet forever. Hence, physical media comes into play here, aiming to preserve these precious creations.

On X, Masakazu Sugimori stated multiple reasons why digital media prevails over its physical counterpart. Firstly, all-digital games are one of the strongest steps against piracy, as they prevent players from illegally downloading games.
Furthermore, he thinks that Nintendo raising game prices is a good step, so the rest of the industry, which is struggling with inflation, can follow suit. In essence, Nintendo takes the lead in the industry with the rest of the companies following in its footsteps.
Physical things always have a lifespan and will eventually break. Digital products, on the other hand, generally don’t have a lifespan.
Digital media isn’t the future and is anti-consumer. Recent times have only prepared gamers for a worse future where older games are rendered unplayable. The Crew going offline is a prime example, and to top it off, Ubisoft tells gamers to destroy the copies once a game’s license expires.
Sugimori also dismissed the notion that Nintendo is doing this out of ‘greed’ and that they have enough wealth to keep their employees on the payroll until retirement, even if they stop selling everything now.

So, despite so much criticism that Sony doesn’t care about hardware sales anymore, the company still clearly considers it a focal business point. It makes sense, too, considering the PS5 has become the standard console for most people.
