XFX has established itself as a preeminent figure in the gaming industry, known for industry-leading designs and exceptional graphic cards. The XFX SpeedSter MERC 319 Black Edition Radeon RX 7900 XT represents XFX’s top-of-the-line variant of the RX 7900 XT, catering to the high-end price segment of the market.

Before anything, let’s first go over its appearance, which can be a determining factor for some users. Its design has remained the same as the last generation’s variant, maintaining the sleek black aesthetic. Although a few design changes would have been appreciated, XFX’s pre-existing black theme does not disappoint.

Flipping the card around reveals an aluminum back plate with a contrasting metallic appearance. As for RGB, no fundamental elements are in place apart from the XFX logo, which illuminates in white.

Despite the lack of RGB, its designs stand out as one of its highlights thanks to its striking color scheme, which complements the sturdy build quality of the rest of the card.

Moving on, XFX has equipped the SpeedSter Merc Radeon RX 7900 XT Black Edition with a staggering boost clock speed of 2560 MHz, a decent increase over the reference card. You also get a dual BIOS switch that allows you to switch between two BIOS modes manually.

Fortunately, XFX has not skimped out on its cooling solution either, loading it with their Ghost Thermal Solution, which incorporates a Vapor Chamber Heatsink, Dual Ball Bearing fans, as well as a Die Cast Carbon Backplate.

Speaking of the fans, you get three of them with the XFX Speedster Merc 310 Radeon RX 7900 XT. These 100mm fans are equipped with the previously mentioned dual ball bearings and 13 blades in total.

In stark contrast to other Radeon RX 7900 XT variants, the XFX Speedster Merc 310 only takes up 2.7 slots for installation. While that is not small by any means, it fairs a lot better compared to other Radeon RX 7900 XT variants. That said, its triple-fan design does add quite a lot of length to its dimensions, ultimately affecting PC case clearance.

Moreover, The XFX Speedster Merc 310 Radeon RX 7900 XT also features a 10+3+1 Phase power design, which is nothing to scoff at. The power delivery receives adequate cooling thanks to the previously mentioned vapor chamber heatsink.

Accompanying the beefy VRM solution are the 20 thermal pads scattered throughout the PCB. You are also greeted with a total of 6 copper heat pipes, which can be found underneath the front shroud. Power limits have also received a slight increase, coming in at 315W compared to the 300W of the reference card.

All of its internal components are enclosed in a sturdy exterior; XFX calls this the “One Piece Aluminum Stamp Cover” Topping all of that off is its decent selection of rear I/O ports, including a single HDMI 2.1 port and 3 display ports. It is worth mentioning that only two of the aforementioned display ports conform to the 2.1 standards.

When it comes to raw performance, Sapphire’s Nitro+ cards are hailed as one of the best ones available in the market. Their incredible performance alone has made them a staple among enthusiasts, and the Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 7900 XT is no exception to this, boasting exceptional performance that places it at the top of its class.

Being Sapphire’s flagship variant, they have managed to instill it with unprecedented amounts of power. However, before covering all of its specifications, let’s first take a look at its design, which seems to have received a complete visual overhaul compared to its predecessor.

It’s hard to overstate how polished the card’s design really is. Coming encapsulated in a sleek grey finish, it immediately sets itself from the competition.  Its profound grey aesthetic is adorned by the minimalistic RGB elements that have been added to all three of the fans.

Not only that, two RGB bars can be seen running down each side of the card. The RGB is fully customizable through Sapphire’s TriXX software. Adding on to that, Sapphire has also included an ARGB controller, allowing you to sync external RGB components with the RGB of the GPU.

Equipped with Sapphire’s Vapor-X cooling system, it is a far better performer than most other cards available.

The Tri-X cooling solution consists of a Wave Fin Design, a die-cast magnesium alloy frame, as well as composite heat pipes. Its bulky heatsink is further reinforced with a robust metal backplate with multiple vents for better airflow.

Apart from that, the Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 XT comes with three 95mm fans, each equipped with angular velocity blades. Offering increased airflow and pressure, the Axial Fans guarantee solid performance and low noise levels.

Uncovering the shroud reveals the card’s tightly packed PCB, consisting of a 20-Phase VRM design. Backing up its extraordinary VRM configuration are the conductive polymer aluminum capacitors which ensure a stable flow of voltage.

All of that is packed into a 14-layer 2oz Copper PCB, which ensures reliable performance and adds further durability. In addition to all that, Sapphire has also incorporated dedicated VRM cooling for the beastly 20-phase VRM configuration.

With over 300W of power jolting down this behemoth, dedicated VRM cooling definitely makes for a fantastic inclusion. Of course, being an aftermarket card, Sapphire has included a BIOS switch with the NITRO+ Radeon RX 7900 XT.

Unlike the reference edition variant of the Radeon RX 7900 XT, power delivery is managed through the 3x 8-pin power connectors that can be found right on top of the GPU.

Its bumped-up specifications and beefy cooler have resulted in an inevitable increase in size, with the Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 7900 XT taking up a total of four slots in your system for installation. In order to support its bulky design, XFX has included a support bracket to avoid GPU sagging.

PowerColor has returned to our list of the Best Radeon RX 7900 XT; however, this time with the standard PowerColor Radeon RX 7900 XT. Not to be confused with the previously mentioned “RedDevil” variant of the card, the PowerColor Radeon RX 7900 XT is based on the reference model of the Radeon RX 7900 XT.

While the PowerColor Radeon RX 7900 XT might look like an aftermarket card due to its name, it is entirely identical to the reference Radeon RX 7900 XT. That also means that it comes with the same design as the reference model.

Although the design is not particularly innovative, the PowerColor Radeon RX 7900 XT still maintains a decent all-black look, which is complemented by the red stripes on each side. It is worth noting that no RGB is present on the card.

Design aside; decent performance can be expected from the PowerColor Radeon RX 7900 XT thanks to its boost clock speeds of 2400 MHz.

While the PowerColor Radeon RX 7900 XT does not provide tremendous leaps in performance compared to the reference edition, it makes for a suitable alternative to the higher-end variants of the card thanks to its lower price.

Verdict

Although the PowerColor Radeon RX 7900 XT does not achieve anything innovative with its feature set, its lower overall price point alone makes it the Best Value Radeon RX 7900 XT Graphics Card.

VRM and Power limit

VRM or Voltage Regulator Modules are responsible for maintaining stable voltage flow to your GPU. Although most users might be oblivious to their importance, they play a huge role in determining the overall life-span and overclocking potential of your card.

It is important to ensure you opt for a card that comes with a suitable VRM configuration that does not hold back the performance of your card.

Speaking of overclocking potential, your card’s Power Limit also plays a huge role in affecting it. Cards with higher overall power limits allow users to push their clock speeds way past their limits as long as they are backed up with sufficient cooling.

Aesthetics and Build Quality

Test Build (Image By Tech4Gamers)

When choosing an aftermarket card, built quality ranks among the most important aspects. It is always preferred to select a GPU model that is robust enough to keep the fans and the rest of the components intact while bearing the vibrations of the fans at higher RPM.

Similarly, aesthetics play an important role in selecting a GPU as well. While users prefer GPUs with illuminated sides and RGB linings, others might prefer a minimalistic, sleek, brushed, finished appearance for their GPU. That said, at the end of the day, it all boils down to personal preference.

Cooler

Every capable graphics card needs to be paired with an equally effective cooling system. For this, an optimal and efficient cooler installed in a GPU is always recommended so the temperatures are controlled even in the highest workloads.

Many brands offer additional cooling solutions for other models of their GPUs. However, these added features increase the overall price as well.

Performance

Testing Ram
Our Test Bench

When it comes to graphic cards, performance is a factor that simply cannot be overlooked. There are a lot of factors that impact the overall performance of your GPU, including cooling, power limits, and VRMs.

A graphics card is expected to perform effectively and efficiently. In simpler words, it should be able to produce higher FPS while consuming less power and operating at optimal temperatures.

Temperatures

As mentioned previously, maintaining reasonable temperatures is crucial for a graphics card. Cards that operate at higher temperatures are at risk of running into thermal throttling issues, reducing their overall performance as a result.

We made sure that all selected graphics cards in our list maintained safe temperatures, providing excellent performance at all times.
