Best overall RX 7700 XT Graphics Card - ASRock Phantom Gaming Radeon RX 7700 XT
ASRock Phantom Gaming Radeon RX 7700 XT

Specifications: Architecture: RDNA 3.0 | Dimensions: 328 x 140 x 52mm | Stream Processors: 3,456 | Base Clock: 1,784MHz | Boost Clock: 2,599MHz | Memory: 12GB GDDR6 | Recommended PSU: 750W | Power Connectors: 2x 8-pin | RGB: Yes

Pros

  • Amazing cooling capabilities
  • Fabulous 1440p performance
  • No fan noise
  • Stylish backplate
  • LED switch buttons

Cons

  • No overclocking headroom
  • Not power efficient
  • Extremely bulky

Starting with the overall best RX 7700 XT, we have the ASRock Phantom Gaming variant. With a stylish backplate and a triple-fan design, the graphics card shows us a fantastic 1440p performance. The graphics card also houses an LED switch button for easier RGB control. You will need some housing space for the GPU, but other than that, you should be good.

Design: Talking about the design, the ASRock Phantom Gaming RX 7700 XT has a 328 x 140 x 52mm design, making it an extremely long card. While the GPU requires a dual-slot space, you’ll need a lot of length space to fit it correctly. In fact, the graphics card might not fit in most ATX cases. This is why I recommend an E-ATX case for the ASRock Phantom. Besides that, the ASRock Phantom houses an LED switch for easier RGB control. You can also install the ASRock Polychrome software to easily customize the RGB based on how you like it.

Cooling: Examining the cooling capabilities of the graphics card, the ASRock Phantom Gaming RX 7700 XT barely runs hot. The heat is adequately dispersed with five 6mm heat pipes connecting to a pure copper heatsink. Moreover, the graphics card has three striped ring fans, which improve the intake airflow. These fans also have a zero RPM feature, making the fans superbly quiet. You can also play around with the fan customizations in the ASRock Tweak 2.0 software. The fans made almost zero noise during my testing, even at the highest RPM speeds.

Performance: Looking at the performance, the ASRock Phantom Gaming RX 7700 XT has slightly boosted clock speeds, providing more performance than the reference AMD card. The graphics card runs extremely fast, with a base clock speed of 1,784MHz and a boost clock speed of 2,599MHz. The base clock speed is ~5% faster than the reference model, while the boost clock speed is ~2% faster. Unfortunately, when I tried overclocking the graphics card, I couldn’t achieve remarkable results even through extra power consumption. At most, I only got a ~3% performance uplift through overclocking.

Power Consumption: The AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT is a power-hungry graphics card, as should be expected from its performance. The ASRock Phantom Gaming variant shows us a recommended 750W power supply, but you can get by with 600W. Of course, the original recommended PSU will be better if you try to overclock the GPU. The GPU averaged 245W to 250W during initial game tests at 1440p resolution. These values bumped higher for productivity tasks, showing the inefficient power consumption of the graphics card.

Value For Money: Looking at the performance-per-dollar value of the GPU to figure out its value for money, the ASRock Phantom has decent performance. Of the many GPU variants, the ASRock Phantom has more than just performance. For example, with the LED button, you can reduce the power consumption by switching off the LED lights. Additionally, the GPU has better fans with lots of customizations. These features and the gaming performance make the ASRock Phantom one of the best RX 7700 XT graphics cards.

The LED switch allures you: If you’re a gamer like me who doesn’t like RGB all the time, the LED switch will entice you to make the purchase. There aren’t many graphics cards with such a feature, and the ASRock Phantom Gaming RX 7700 XT delivers fantastically with the switch.

Don’t Buy It If

You have a small chassis: The ASRock Phantom Gaming RX 7700 XT is by no means a small graphics card. With a size of 328 x 140 x 52mm, the GPU will barely fit in ATX cases. If you don’t own an E-ATX case, I don’t recommend purchasing this variant, as you might have to spend more on a chassis.

You require power efficiency: While the AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT isn’t the most power-efficient card, the ASRock Phantom variant requires even more power to function correctly. If you need more power efficiency, I don’t recommend going with the ASRock Phantom Gaming RX 7700 XT.

What Makes It The Best Overall RX 7700 XT Graphics Card?

Many factors, such as fantastic 1440p gaming performance, FSR 3.0 and ray tracing capabilities, remarkable cooling capabilities, and a stylish design, make the ASRock Phantom Gaming one of the best overall RX 7700 XT graphics cards. • Ray TracingNVIDIA and AMD graphics cards utilize RT cores and RT accelerators to create realistic lighting and shadows for better eye candy. Ray tracing is extremely GPU intensive, reducing FPS in many games significantly.
  • CUDA CoresCUDA cores are a set of cores found in NVIDIA GPUs that help with CPU processing by completing complex mathematical calculations parallel to the CPU. AMD uses similar cores called stream processors. CUDA cores help with graphical and mathematical calculations, making them essential for gaming and productivity tasks.

How We Selected These Graphics Cards

You must look into various things before purchasing a graphics card of your type. For example, the factors I considered while choosing the best RX 7700 XT graphics cards were performance, cooling capabilities, wattage requirements, overclocking potential, GPU length and aesthetics.

Performance

Before purchasing a graphics card, you must know how well it performs under several conditions. For example, if you have a 1080p 144Hz monitor, you should buy a GPU that can provide 144 frames in the games you want to play at 1080p resolution. Similarly, if you have a 1440p resolution monitor, you must choose a GPU that performs equally. Therefore, I chose the best RX 7700 XT variants that can provide over 100 FPS at 1440p resolution. The graphics cards are, of course, going to provide around 144 FPS on 1080p and 60 FPS on 4K.

Cooling Capabilities

Besides the performance, you must also examine the cooling capabilities of the graphics card you’re interested in. If your intended GPU requires plenty of external cooling to maintain temperatures, its value drops significantly. To explain, you will need to spend more money on case fans or liquid cooling. Moreover, better internal GPU cooling helps with keeping thermal throttling under control, further improving the performance of the GPU and allowing for greater overclocking possibilities. Therefore, all the RX 7700 XT variants I chose have high-end cooling capabilities.

Wattage Requirements

With better performance, you are likely to find higher wattage requirements. For that reason, you should always look into the power consumption of the graphics card you’re trying to purchase to ensure your power supply has enough juice to power the GPU. Lower wattage requirements can also mean lower temperatures, resulting in lower thermal throttling. If your PSU can’t support the GPU, you will have to buy a new power supply, lowering the value of the graphics card. That’s why I chose AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT variants that are more power efficient.

Overclocking Potential

One of the main differing factors in various graphics card variants is their overclocking potential. Mostly, a graphics card’s overclocking potential depends on that particular variant’s cooling capabilities and power efficiency. If you’re an enthusiast gamer who likes to push their products to their limits, you will want to overclock your GPU. Therefore, I chose GPUs with a decent overclocking potential rather than those without. Better overclocking means better value for the same price. While it can be dangerous, overclocking can result in impressive gains.

Graphics Card Length

The length of a GPU is another essential factor to consider before making a purchase. For example, if you have a smaller ATX case, fitting a triple-fan graphics card might be difficult. On the other hand, if you have an E-ATX case, having a single fan or dual fan GPU might make the case seem empty. Moreover, if you have an ATX case and want to purchase the AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT GPU, you may have to buy a bigger case, resulting in more expenses. To prevent that scenario, I chose variants that aren’t as big, can usually fit in ATX cases, and look good in E-ATX cases.

Aesthetics

While not the most critical aspect, pleasing aesthetics make your PC look better. Usually, the graphics card is the main highlight in a PC build, and the most attention is drawn to that component. Therefore, if your GPU has a subtle design, you will want to shift towards a sleeper or workstation-type build. On the other hand, lots of non-controllable RGB may look like rainbow puke, which isn’t preferred either. So, I deliberately chose GPUs with RGB control and a pleasant design. You can also switch off the RGB to build a workstation PC with the GPUs I selected.
