Sony recently announced the end of development for Destiny 2, in a way that completely sunsets the franchise for now. This led to a massive uproar that even led to fans filing a petition to force Sony into making a sequel to the game.
Even at today’s State of Play, the live comments section was filled with fans calling for Destiny 3. A huge majority of gamers want the franchise to continue with the sequel following Destiny 2’s end of cycle.
Why it matters: For the last few years, especially ever since Sony took over Bungie, the company, along with Destiny 2, hadn’t been in the best of shape. Despite this, it has a loyal fan base that wants it to continue.
In today’s State of Play, there was a largely recurring comment from the audience, and that was for Sony to make Destiny 3. Bungie revealed that it currently has no plans for the game and is focused on its new title, Marathon.
Now, even with the petition garnering over 170K signatures, and this much demand from the audience, it seems unlikely there will be a Destiny 3 anytime soon. Bungie isn’t doing too well as Sony reportedly considers the acquisition a bad deal.
All in all, fans still seem to love the franchise and aren’t ready for it to be over soon. Some of the people have invested in the IP for over 12 years, ever since the first game came out, so there will always be demand.
