A popular insider has shared more details regarding Bungie’s situation on the matter. He now states that Destiny 3 is not being worked on as it would cost $500 million or more.

Jason Schreier, the popular insider who broke the news that Destiny 3 is not in development, has shared that the reason Bungie has not yet started working on the third title is mainly related to costs.

As Jason Schreier points out, Activision allocated a huge $500 million budget for Destiny back in 2014, and this budget was expected to cover the costs of multiple games and expansions as part of a decade-long plan for the series.

The insider states that Destiny 3 would likely cost more than this due to the current global economy and modern game development budgets. He also points out that Bungie’s offices, based in Seattle, lead to game development being very expensive overall.

Jason Schreier states that PlayStation likely does not want to spend this much money on a live-service project, especially due to major cancellations, such as The Last of Us Online and failures like Concord.
