GTA 6 Story Won’t Cover The Entire Open-World Map, Confirms Rockstar

Story Highlight

  • Rockstar has said that GTA 6’s story will not cover the entire map.
  • This is mainly because the game is so vast that players will have to take it upon themselves to explore all of it.
  • GTA 6 will still try to take players through a large chunk of the map as part of the narrative experience.

GTA 6 boasts Rockstar Games’ biggest open-world and story. The latter is said to last around 80 hours, but even this won’t be enough to cover everything, at least as far as the map is concerned.

According to the team, the game’s story won’t take players through the entire map.

Why it matters: Most open-world games attempt to show off as much of their map as possible, but GTA 6 doesn’t seem to be following suit.

GTA 6 Will Encourage Natural Exploration

As per GTA 6 Narrative SVP Rupert Humphries via Twitter, the GTA 6 story won’t take players through the entire map, leaving many areas for exploration outside the campaign.

This means players may not naturally visit every major location through story missions alone. Instead, some parts of Leonida will be reserved for side activities, random encounters, collectibles, and simple free-roam discovery.

However, what the story mode will do is introduce players to a wide array of content. This will help them get a feel for the overall vibe of GTA 6 and encourage further exploration.

We don’t have time to take you everywhere, but we want you to be able to explore and get a feel for most of most of the places, cultures, and vibes.

Many players feel this piece of information is positive, since they hope to explore the game at their own pace. As Rockstar Games has already said on multiple occasions before, GTA 6 will be absolutely massive, so no two players will explore the game in the same manner.
