2026 has turned out to be a great year for Star Wars in gaming so far. Galactic Racer, the first racing simulator developed for the franchise in over two decades, has wound up being a critical success, earning praise for its depiction of pod racing and becoming well-liked among the fanbase.

On the other hand, many credible sources have confirmed that EA is officially focused on developing Star Wars Battlefront 3, even killing Mass Effect and BioWare to pursue the project. As it turns out, the gaming giant has another game in the franchise coming very soon.

Why it matters: The Jedi series has proved to be a turning point for Star Wars in gaming, and seeing the franchise come to a satisfying conclusion through a third game is something all fans want to see.

Jedi 3 is far in development; Battlefront 3 hasn't even started yet

According to Jason Schreier, Star Wars Jedi 3 is far along in development at EA, and the company will announce the sequel very soon. While replying to fan queries regarding the BioWare situation, the journalist confirmed that Respawn has been working on the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and its next project, Battlefront 3, hasn’t even entered production yet.

Considering how the sequel was first confirmed to be in development back in 2023, the announcement being around the corner does make sense. Moreover, with Respawn developing the action-adventure game for at least 3 years, the release of Jedi 3 might not be too far away.

The previous entry in the series, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, was a commercial success for EA, going on to outsell Fallen Order in multiple regions. The title had such a long sales tail that it even charted higher than Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws, reflecting the poor critical reception of the latter.

Star Wars Jedi Nintendo Switch 2
Respawn, the studio behind the Jedi series, has not started work on Battlefront 3 as of yet.

Therefore, expectations for Star Wars Jedi 3 will be exceptionally high considering the sub-franchise’s track record and Lucasfilm’s promise that future Star Wars games are going to surprise fans.

Do you think the upcoming game should be the conclusion of the Jedi sub-series? Are you looking forward to playing as Cal Kestis again? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.
