Phantom Blade Zero Crosses A Massive 430k Players At Launch On Steam

The Title Has Started Strongly On The Platform.

Story Highlight
  • Phantom Blade Zero has started off strong on Steam, hitting 431k concurrent players on the platform.
  • The title has already surpassed the all-time peak of Crimson Desert, but still lags behind Black Myth Wukong.
  • The action game also reached the top of Steam best-seller charts ahead of Modern Warfare 4.

Ever since its review embargo lifted, Phantom Blade Zero has become all the rage in the gaming world. The S-Game title has received rave reviews from critics, being hailed as the strongest GOTY contender so far thanks to scintillating combat that feels as good as it looks on the screen.

Phantom Blade Zero has also been putting up big numbers already on the commercial front, exceeding the publisher’s expectations with pre-orders alone. Now, the title has finally come out around the globe, and its Steam numbers match the pre-release hype.

Why it matters: Even though it might not reach the commercial success Black Myth Wukong attained, S-Game still has a sales giant on their hands.

Just hours after launching on the platform, Phantom Blade Zero has hit a peak of 431k concurrent players on Steam. The title has already surpassed the all-time peak of Crimson Desert, which hit 276k concurrent users earlier this year, and could reach an even higher figure in the coming hours.

Despite the incredible start, however, Phantom Blade Zero still lags behind its fellow Chinese action title Black Myth Wukong, which opened with a whopping one million concurrent users on Steam and went on to peak at 2.4 million players.

Regardless, the title is off to a flying start on the platform, beating Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to become the best-selling game on Steam. The action game sold over one million copies worldwide through pre-orders alone, with Steam accounting for almost 75% of the overall sales.

The action game’s combat has been praised by critics and fans alike.

Considering how Phantom Blade Zero invents a new sub-genre of action games, features bosses that fight like other players, and has incredibly fluid combat, the game’s commercial appeal so far is not surprising. With an Xbox release also on the cards when the PS5 console exclusivity expires, the game will certainly have a long sales tail.

Do you think Phantom Blade Zero will turn out to be a bigger commercial success than Black Myth Wukong? Will the game beat GTA 6 to the GOTY award? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.
