Baldur’s Gate 3 was a revolutionary title as it opened the D&D and turn-based RPG genre to a whole new audience with its amazing storytelling and gameplay. It won the GOTY 2023 award, and the older games are now getting the remake treatment.
According to a new report, Baldur’s Gate 2 Remake is currently in the works. The remake won’t be handled by the original studio, BioWare, but will instead be developed by the studio, Wizards of the Coast, with the original designer.
Why it matters: Reintroducing a 26-year-old game to a modern audience who loved Baldur’s Gate 3 seems like a great idea, especially since the original title is hugely influential and will likely resonate well with the fans.
PCGamer has learned that Baldur’s Gate 2 Remake is currently in the works. Former BioWare developer and lead designer on the original game, Kevin Martens, is also involved, as he is a part of Wizards of the Coast already.
Interestingly, the source also suggests that the original Baldur’s Gate’s remake is also being worked on simultaneously, which means that D&D fans could be in for a treat. However, the scope of the remake is unclear as of yet.
If the studio plans to make them on the scale of Baldur’s Gate 3, it will likely take multiple years. However, if they just tweak things, enhance the visuals, we might see the remakes launch much sooner than later.
