Tim Sweeney Makes Takes Jab At Valve Following Steam Deck OLED Price Hike!

Story Highlight
  • The Epic Games CEO recently discussed Valve’s Steam Deck price adjustment.
  • He sarcastically pointed out that prices went up due to disruptions in the component supply chain for megayachts.
  • This comment comes following several instances of the CEO lashing out at Valve over conflicting policies and rivalry over PC gaming dominance.

Valve has become the latest to join the trend of raising hardware prices. The Steam Deck OLED now costs an arm and a leg, especially for the 1TB model. At the same time, Valve is expected to launch the Steam Machine at a hefty price later this year.

The Epic Games CEO has recently joined the discussion and commented on Valve’s situation with a sarcastic remark.

Why it matters: It’s no secret that Valve and Epic Games are huge rivals in the PC gaming space, and the latter has not shied away from criticizing Valve in the past.

Tim Sweeney Sarcastic Remarks Aimed At Valve Following Steam Deck Price Hike

Taking to Twitter, Tim Sweeney started out by saying that reactions have been too harsh on Valve following the price hikes.

He then continued his sarcasm by stating that component costs have risen, which wouldn’t have been wrong to say had his next line not referenced a megayacht. According to Tim Sweeney, the currency economy has disrupted the supply chain for megayachts, leading to Valve’s decision.

For those unaware, Tim Sweeney’s comment references Valve CEO Gabe Newell’s fondness for yachts. In fact, Gabe Newell is said to have superyachts worth over $500 million in his possession.

Economic trends have created severe disruptions in the component parts supply chain for megayachts.

The Epic Games CEO Considers Valve A Strong Rival

As mentioned earlier, this is not the first time Tim Sweeney has been critical of Valve. In fact, the Epic Games CEO has made much stronger remarks about Valve and its policies in the past.

Therefore, his latest jab hardly comes as a surprise, though many in the comments have pointed out that Epic Games recently laid off 1,000 workers, something way worse for the overall health of the industry.
