PlayStation has recently announced a new State of Play, but the gaming giant has also made an unexpected move. While many were hoping for Sony to address the physical disc backlash, the gaming giant has gone ahead and announced a new PS5 Live TV application.
Why it matters: PlayStation’s TV application is meant to be an add-on for those already using the console, but it has drawn interesting reactions from the community so far.

Sony’s new PS5 Live TV app gives users access to free anime, movies, and live TV content. The app is positioned as a no-cost entertainment add-on rather than a replacement for paid streaming services.
According to PlayStation, this app features a wide selection of fan-favorites. Fans can look forward to classic TV shows like The Walking Dead and anime like Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, etc.
Elsewhere, sports like MMA, football, golf, etc. are part of the package. While this is purely an additional application meant to expand the PlayStation ecosystem, the move has certainly led to gamers reminiscing about the Xbox One.
Back in 2013, the Xbox One came with a slew of TV and entertainment marketing, something that gamers did not appreciate.
Although the push for all-in-one entertainment did not do too well for Xbox, it seems PlayStation’s latest idea does exactly what Microsoft had wanted to do. Interestingly, even Xbox’s Digital-To-Disc initiative is similar to its DRM from 2013 in some ways.
