"And I Guess Well, Hey, Tim, Gabe's Better at That Than You"

Story Highlight
  • A former Valve employee has blasted Epic Games’ Tim Sweeney for recent layoffs.
  • He said that Sweeney only wants to make money and doesn’t care about the employees.
  • Faliszek appreciated Gabe Newell, saying he is much better at it than Sweeney.

Layoffs have become an unfortunate trend in the gaming industry that just doesn’t seem to stop. Amid massive budgets, it is becoming harder and harder to sustain huge companies, and this leads to massive layoffs quite regularly.

Epic Games became the latest to do so, as it recently laid off over 1,000 of its employees. This has caught a lot of backlash, and a veteran Valve employee blasted Tim Sweeney, saying that Gabe Newell is better than you

Why it matters: Despite Steam having its fair share of issues, the company has been quite decent to its employees, and we can’t really think of the last time it laid off a huge or even a small number of its employees.

Former Valve writer Chet Faliszek has taken a dig at Epic Games’ CEO Tim Sweeney, criticizing him for the recent 1,000 layoffs. What’s even worse is that Sweeney later said that now the industry is full of great talent to hire.

And I guess well, hey, Tim, Gabe’s better at that than you. I don’t know what to tell you, man, because you stopped caring about making things.

– Chet Faliszek

The layoffs happened because Fortnite saw a decline, and it helped them cut $500 million in operating costs. Faliszek slammed the statement and said Epic only focuses on one game, and when it couldn’t perform, the employees had to face the consequences

Epic Games has been under fire for laying off such a massive number of employees

So, he essentially defended the decision, making things even worse. Faliszek put all the blame on Sweeney and said that it’s all his fault, and Gabe is better than him, as he makes money and still keeps everything going.

He further said that when he worked at Valve, there was a kind of ownership, a security, that they would be rewarded for the hard work. Epic Games is now just a money-making machine that doesn’t care about its employees.
