- The Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 director has pushed back against criticism of Nvidia DLSS 5.
- He has called the backlash funny, claiming that DLSS 5 does not ruin artistic intent like many claim.
- The director says that the tool has a lot of potential since most developers already use AI in production.
Nvidia’s DLSS 5 leaked recently, and as a result, it has now been implemented across a slew of different games.
However, the results have continued to divide players. Many have called DLSS 5 “AI Slop,” but the Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 director certainly seems to disagree. In fact, he appears to be quite fond of Nvidia’s upcoming DLSS revision.
Why it matters: DLSS 5 promises to revolutionize game graphics through neural rendering, giving each game an enhanced look through a simple toggle.
Some people have literally gone crazy.
On the left is a head messed up by the game engine’s very limited lighting system, which can’t properly render shadows, skin texture, and the detail of normal maps.
On the right is THE SAME MODEL WITHOUT ANY GEOMETRY CHANGES, which looks… pic.twitter.com/8ZxVpYCRgh

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 director Daniel Vavra has defended Nvidia DLSS 5 and argued that it does not get rid of developer intent.
He showed a comparison between Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, noting that the AI-based output did not feature any geometric changes. He also went on to say that the DLSS 5 image represents Warhorse Studios’ original vision for the game by removing limitations that the team originally could not.
In a different tweet, the developer also stated that most of the industry’s talent already uses AI in some capacity across game production. Because of this, Vavra described the DLSS 5 backlash as “really funny.”
Some people have literally gone crazy. I am the creative director of the game. This is our original artistic vision.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Daniel Vavra has praised AI and called for its adoption. In general, the developer seems quite fond of everything generative AI has to offer for the games industry.
