Architectural Differences

1. Process Nodes: Both graphics cards belong to the same family of graphics cards, hence they have the same 5nm manufacturing process.
2. Clock Speeds: The RTX 5070 Ti has a range of 2295MHz to 2452MHz, which is slightly smaller than the 2295MHz to 2617MHz range that the RTX 5080 has.
3. VRAM: Both cards have 16 gigabytes of GDDR7 memory, and both are connected using the 256-bit bus. The bandwidth of the 5080 is slightly higher than the 5070 Ti, though.
4. TDP: The RTX 5070 Ti has a rated TDP of 300 watts, which is lower than the 360-watt TDP of the RTX 5080.
5. Supported Technologies: The Blackwell generation of cards has cutting-edge features like DLSS 4 Multi-frame Generation, more efficient RT, neural rendering support, and Nvidia Reflex 2.0.

Blackwell has resulted in nothing but disappointment during our and many other reviewers’ time with these cards. This made us tamper with our expectations with the newest card in Nvidia’s lineup. Let’s see how it performs against a card that’s a tier above it in the RTX 5070 Ti vs. RTX 5080 comparison!

Gaming Benchmarks – 4K

Despite the AI boom, the reason most people will buy these cards is for their gaming performance. To see how they perform, we have devised a test bench that leaves only the graphics cards as the bottleneck, the specs of which are written below:

Test Bench

• CPU – AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
• Mobo – MSI MPG X870E Carbon WiFi 
• RAM – G. Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5-6400 CL30
• CPU Cooler – Xigmatek Aurora 360mm Cooler
• Storage – XPG GAMMIX S70 BLADE 2TB NVMe SSD
• Power Supply – MSI MAG A1000GL ATX 3.1 80+ Gold
• Operating System – Windows 11

Marvel Rivals

• Starting with a newer game, Marvel Rivals performed with an average of 65 FPS on the 5070 Ti, showing a 14.04% boost over the RTX 5070 Ti, which managed 57 FPS. 
• When looking at the 1% lows, we saw the RTX 5080 drop to 41 FPS, while the RTX 5070 Ti hit 39 FPS, making for only a 5.13% difference in the lowest moments.

Stalker 2

• The RTX 5080 averaged 48 FPS in this game, running 17.07% faster than the RTX 5070 Ti, which settled at 41 FPS. Both cards had sub-par performance in Stalker 2.
• The lows revealed an even bigger gap, with the RTX 5080 holding 41 FPS, while the RTX 5070 Ti dropped to 31 FPS, making for a huge 32.26% deeper performance dip.

God Of War Ragnarok

• God Of War Ragnarok showed an average of 117 FPS on the 5080, running 8.33% faster than the RTX 5070 Ti, which landed at 108 FPS. The difference wasn’t very noticeable because of the high enough framerate.
• During the dips in more demanding scenes, the RTX 5080 stuck to about 98 FPS, while the RTX 5070 Ti hovered around 95 FPS, with only a 3.16% difference in lows.

A Plague Tale: Requiem

• Our testing showed the RTX 5080 averaged 78 FPS, giving it a 14.71% lead over the RTX 5070 Ti, which managed 68 FPS. The difference was noticeable in this test between the two cards.
• The 1% lows told a similar story, with the RTX 5080 dropping to 66 FPS, while the RTX 5070 Ti fell further to 57 FPS, a 15.79% difference in stability.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

• In Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, we saw the RTX 5080 averaging 69 FPS, which was 18.97% faster than the RTX 5070 Ti, which managed 58 FPS. 
• When it came to 1% lows, the RTX 5080 held 58 FPS, while the RTX 5070 Ti dipped to 48 FPS, resulting in a 20.83% difference in the rougher moments, with both cards falling below 60 frames.

Alan Wake 2 (RT)

• With high ray tracing settings, our test of Alan Wake 2 showed the RTX 5080 averaging 38 FPS, giving it a 22.58% advantage over the RTX 5070 Ti, which ran at 31 FPS.
• The lows showed an even bigger gap, with the RTX 5080 staying at 31 FPS, while the RTX 5070 Ti dropped to 24 FPS, making for a 29.17% performance drop.

Cyberpunk 2077 (RT)

• Our benchmarks revealed the RTX 5080 averaged 50 FPS, running 21.95% ahead of the RTX 5070 Ti’s 41 FPS. This extra boost helped keep Night City feeling more fluid.
• The lowest moments showed a clear gap, with the RTX 5080 dipping to 41 FPS, while the RTX 5070 Ti fell to 34 FPS, a 20.59% drop in the most intensive sequences.

Black Myth: Wukong (RT)

• We measured an average of 39 FPS on the RTX 5080 in the last game we tested, which put it 25.81% ahead of the RTX 5070 Ti, which landed at 31 FPS. 
• The 1% lows were closer, with the RTX 5080 hitting 29 FPS, while the RTX 5070 Ti dropped slightly lower at 26 FPS, showing an 11.54% difference in stability.

Productivity Benchmarks

Now that we know how the RTX 5080 and the RTX 5070 Ti both perform in gaming benchmarks, the next section of this comparison will see how they perform with synthetic productivity benchmarks. We used the same benchmark as we did for the gaming benchmarks for this section.

3D Mark TimeSpy

• 3D Mark TimeSpy had a score of 33116 points on the RTX 5080, which was significantly higher than the 27668 points that the RTX 5070 Ti accumulated.
• The first benchmark we ran on these cards ran about 20% higher on the RTX 5080 compared to the RTX 5070 Ti.

Geekbench 6 GPU Compute

• Both cards performed great in this test, though the RTX 5080 had an edge in this test. It scored a performance of 261836 points, whereas the RTX 5070 Ti got a performance of around 240508 points.
• We saw a 9% increase in performance with RTX 5080 when compared to the RTX 5070 Ti when we ran this test.

PassMark

• Finally, the last test of our suite had a performance of 36194 points on the RTX 5080, whereas the RTX 5070 Ti got a performance of around 32084 points.
• This yielded a final difference of around 13% between the RTX 5080 and the RTX 5070 Ti. We will get into the total difference in performance between these cards in a later section.

Overall Performance

Average Framerate

In the eight games we tested, with and without RT enabled, we saw that the RTX 5080 was about 16% more performant than the RTX 5070 Ti. This is a small enough difference that it makes the RTX 5070 Ti better value for money, at least when we compare the MSRP of both cards.

1% Lows

The minimum framerates had an even smaller difference between these two cards. On average, the RTX 5080 was about 14% faster than the RTX 5070 Ti in this regard, going from 44 FPS to about 51 FPS. This made 4K games a little more playable on the higher tier card.

Productivity

The RTX 5080 was also faster when it came to productivity testing, though the difference wasn’t massive. On average, the RTX 5080 scored about 10% in these tests when compared to the RTX 5070 Ti. This difference might not weigh into your purchasing decision if your primary purpose is gaming.

Power Consumption

To no one’s surprise, the RTX 5070 Ti consumes less power than the RTX 5080. We saw a 19% wattage hike on the RTX 5080 in the gaming tests, with the peaks being around 21% apart between the two cards. 

Price

We don’t think it would come as a shock to anyone when we say that a quick scan of the market for these cards showed that they’re being sold for way above their MSRP. The RTX 5070 Ti got less of a price hike than the RTX 5080, resulting in an almost 44% difference in price between these cards.

What We Recommend

RTX 5080: The RTX 5080 is a card that is meant to be a luxury item, but we still can’t justify it being sold for twice its MSRP. It performs great, albeit with much less of an improvement over Nvidia’s own offerings than we expected, but the current market price does not make sense for almost anyone.

RTX 5070 Ti: It’s hard to call a $749 card affordable, but the rest of Nvidia’s Blackwell cards make it seem like pocket change. The RTX 5070 Ti performs close to the RTX 5080, and it costs significantly less than the higher tier card as well. If you aren’t hankering for the cutting edge, the RTX 5070 Ti should be your card of choice.

If you want top-tier performance and don’t mind overpaying, the RTX 5080 is there—but the RTX 5070 Ti offers close-ish power at a much better price, albeit still far from being a good deal.
