Starfield comes from a studio with a long history of mods. Games like Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls 5 can offer completely revamped experiences after years of modding support, and similar support was expected for Bethesda’s latest RPG.
Sure enough, modders were quick to begin work, adding features and fixes to the game at release. Among the first mods, DLSS was added to the game, in addition to options like a FOV slider.
Several weeks later, popular modder Halk Hogan PL has brought a visual overhaul to the game. The Starfield HD Reworked Project 1.0 is a texture pack that updates the game’s visuals while preserving the original art style.
Why it matters: Starfield is an inconsistent game in terms of visuals. While it often looks outstanding, parts of the game can look outdated compared to other modern AAA releases.
The modder previously worked on similar mods for games like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3.
Halk Hogan PL’s release preview shares a few comparison shots, highlighting significantly better textures on surfaces like rocks and character skin. Assets like the flame effect also look much better than the vanilla game.
While these comparison shots are taken up close, the mod should provide a much sharper and cleaner look for Starfield, enhancing the immersion in Bethesda’s latest RPG.
The mod is expected to preserve performance while delivering enhanced visuals. However, improved textures will require a decent amount of VRAM, with the modder recommending 6GB or more.
The mod can be found on Nexus Mods, which is also home to several other mods for Starfield.
Starfield’s modding journey has just begun.
In the coming months, modders will continue to improve the game, and the studio will also launch official mod support for consoles in 2024. This should sustain the already strong modding community of the RPG.
Apart from mods, Bethesda is committed to improving the game.
An official implementation of DLSS has been confirmed, along with features like a FOV slider. The game will also receive downloadable content to expand on the current lore and narrative of the RPG.
