2026 has seen its fair share of exceptional games. The likes of Forza Horizon 6, Resident Evil Requiem, and more have all been very highly reviewed this year, but CDPR’s latest remaster has now taken the crown.
The Witcher 3: Remastered has now become Metacritic’s best-rated game of 2026.
Why it matters: Many consider CDPR’s work on the title to be exemplary for the RPG genre. It also appears critics agree the game has aged gracefully over the years.
At the time of writing, the game has racked up a score of 94/100 on Metacritic. This puts it above titles like Resident Evil Requiem and Forza Horizon 6, though the caveat is that The Witcher 3: Remastered doesn’t have nearly as many reviews as those games.
Also, for anybody familiar with CDPR’s RPGs, this outcome is perhaps unsurprising. The Witcher 3 already has one of the strongest legacies in modern RPGs, and since the remaster doesn’t change the game’s core elements, all of the previous strengths carry over.
CDPR’s narrative and open-world design remain some of the best in modern gaming, and although some gamers disagree with the remaster’s art direction, The Witcher 3 remains a fantastic title to date.
The RPG should be available for all to delve into later tomorrow. Note that The Witcher 3 will also receive a major expansion next year, breathing further life into this iconic RPG.
