Nintendo Switch Sales In Japan Were 68% Higher In June Than Last Year

Thanks To Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom!

The Nintendo Switch has continued to outpace console competition. With over 122 million sold consoles, it has joined the top three best-selling consoles. Much of this success is due to Nintendo’s strong first-party lineup.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the latest first-party game for Nintendo. It became Opencritic’s best-rated game one day before its release. Following this reception, a report reveals Nintendo Switch sales in Japan were 68% higher last month compared to June 2022.

Why it matters: It has been over six years since Nintendo Switch was released, and hardware sales typically slow down at this point in a console’s lifecycle. However, Nintendo’s latest console has incredible momentum in 2023.

According to the report, Nintendo sold 380K Nintendo Switch units last month. This is an impressive figure, given the console’s age and the number of people that have already bought the console.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has played a massive role in these impressive sales figures. Nintendo has already sold over 10 million copies of the game and it is also one of the favorites for Game of The Year.

In addition to the new Zelda release, the recent Mario movie has likely played a part in the massive sales boost.

Following The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s success, Nintendo and Universal are reportedly in talks to create a Legend of Zelda movie for the franchise. This might lead to another breakthrough for Nintendo.

Recent reports have also hinted at the next console from Nintendo. The next release is expected to offer performance like the PS4, and a leaker believes that a Spanish studio has already received a dev kit for the console.
