  • PlayStation’s shift away from physical games might leave others no choice but to follow suit.

The end of physical games is nearly upon us, as PlayStation prepares to leave behind support after 2027. Xbox may have something up its sleeves, but physical games might not survive Sony’s exit from this market.

As the situation evolves, Bloober Team has recently spoken out in support of game discs.

Why it matters: Physical games still account for millions of sales globally, but digital distribution now dominates the market.

Physical Discs Are On Their Way Out

Bloober Team, the team best known for Silent Hill 2 Remake, has made it clear that it still values physical game releases. In an interview with GamesRadar, Bloober Team and Broken Mirror Games said they want to make physical media “for as long as possible.”

The developers believe the physical side of gaming will continue to exist because players still care about ownership and the simple appeal of having a game on a shelf. The former Dying Light franchise director also agreed with this sentiment.

If we are able to produce a retail version of your games, we would like to make them for as long as possible.
