Valve has been among the companies that have suffered the most due to ongoing RAM shortages. Both the Steam Machine and Steam Frame launched at much higher-than-expected prices as a result of these problems, and even the Steam Deck saw a huge price hike.
Amid concerns about Valve’s future hardware initiatives, the gaming giant says plans for the Steam Deck 2 remain unimpacted so far.
Why it matters: The Steam Deck became the handheld of choice for millions of gamers, so it will be interesting to see whether its successor will live up to this reputation.
According to IGN, Valve has not changed its Steam Deck 2 roadmap in a major way despite rising RAM prices and memory shortages. This is reassuring for handheld PC fans, though it does not mean the next Steam Deck is launching soon.
Valve’s stance on Steam Deck 2 currently remains unchanged. The company does not seem interested in releasing a slightly faster model just to keep up with yearly hardware cycles.
Instead, Valve has said it wants the next device to offer a proper generational improvement while keeping battery life in check. Valve has also described the Steam Deck 2 as getting closer, but still not ready yet.

Of course, Valve could still very well delay the Steam Deck 2 due to the ongoing memory crisis. If things persist like this for multiple years, the gaming giant will have no option but to wait a while before launching the Steam Deck 2.
