Former Doom Producer Is Not A Fan of Game Pass!

Story Highlight
  • A former Doom producer has called Xbox Game Pass extremely poorly managed.
  • The developer believes that Doom should not have been added to Microsoft’s subscription service.
  • These comments arrive following major layoffs at id Software, which may have handicapped the team for good.

Doom: The Dark Ages was far from terrible, but the team saw a wave of major layoffs following its release.

In the wake of these layoffs, many former developers have criticized Microsoft and noted that the team will never be the same. A former Doom producer has also criticized Xbox Game Pass recently.

Why it matters: The Doom franchise has been among the finest first-person shooters of the modern era, but recent layoffs at id Software have spurred fears of the series never being the same again.

Former Doom producer Andrew Willis has criticized Xbox Game Pass, arguing that Doom should not have been included in the service.

The former producer said that Xbox Game Pass is “extremely poorly managed.” He notes that Microsoft got carried away after looking at Netflix and failed to show any semblance of foresight in this regard.

Andrew Willis also stated that putting Doom on the service was a “stupid idea.” As per the producer, Doom: The Dark Ages’ Game Pass inclusion likely played a role in the game’s disappointing sales.

I know that sales didn’t do as well as they were expected to. That’s probably a huge part of Game Pass.

Doom: The Dark Ages is crowned as the best graphics of 2025

Of course, this is not the first time someone has criticized Game Pass. In fact, recent rumors suggest Xbox itself plans on moving from the service’s day-one motto.
