- 007 First Light has been delayed on Nintendo Switch 2 to March next year.
- IO Interactive claimed the extra time will be spent on polishing the port’s performance.
- The game was previously aiming for a summer 2026 release on Switch 2.
IO Interactive took a huge bet with 007 First Light, using a budget higher than all the Hitman trilogy combined. However, the gamble paid off; it was incredibly well received and sold like hotcakes so far. The title is considered one of the strongest GOTY contenders this year.
However, James Bond’s upcoming landing on Switch 2 has some fans worried, as a shoddy port could ruin the otherwise excellent experience on the handheld.
IO Interactive acknowledged these concerns and has decided to delay the Nintendo Switch 2 port to sometime in March next year instead of a late summer 2026 release.
Why it matters: IO Interactive clearly wants to do right by the Switch 2 port of 007 First Light, aiming to squash all the minor performance hiccups and other technical bugs that are still around. While waiting is a bummer, we can at least expect a well-executed port next year.

IO Interactive announced its decision on Twitter, clarifying that these additional months will be spent on polishing 007 First Light’s performance on Nintendo Switch 2. The studio aims to deliver a port of pristine quality that players have come to expect.
To ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect, we have made the decision to delay the release to March 2027.

The hands-on experience of the Switch 2 port has been mostly positive for many gamers during the Gamescom demo. Many testers were left impressed with the demo, so there’s a lot of excitement for the Switch 2 release.

Its overall performance appears to be quite optimized, and the visuals are also much better than the Hitman experience on the portable. The extra time will only make the port’s optimization more consistent in some of the more performance-heavy areas of the game.
An exact release date will be announced over the next few months.
Do you think this delay was necessary for 007 First Light, or should IO Interactive have stuck to the summer 2026 release window? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
