- 007 First Light reportedly had a massive development budget of over $200 million.
- This makes the game’s budget higher than all the Hitman trilogy games combined.
- The higher budget and effort are to execute plans to make the title into a franchise.
IO Interactive’s new Bond game has opened to glowing reviews from both the critics and the audience. Despite the initial skepticism around it, many are now hailing it as one of the strongest contenders for the GOTY award.
However, the game wasn’t cheap to develop. In fact, costing around $200 million with 7 years being in development, 007 First Light had a higher budget than the entire Hitman games trilogy’s budget combined.
Why it matters: The studio really went all in with this one, as they’ve splurged a massive amount of money and time into the title. Fortunately, the final product shows where the investment went, and it was totally worth it.

The budgets for the Hitman trilogy are already known, where the 2016 game cost $100 million, the sequel cost $60 million, and the final game in the trilogy cost just $20 million, making a total development cost of $180 million.
This is quite lower than the over $200 million that they spent on 007 First Light. However, the money and effort seem understandable in the long run, as the studio has plans to add more games to the franchise as well.

They stated that the new title, if it resonates well with the audience, will be a part of its new James Bond series, and it seems, based on First Light already selling over 1.5 million copies, we are indeed getting more games.
