PS5 Emulation Improves Yet Again As GTA 5 Reaches Loading Screen

PS5 Emulation Takes Another Step Closer To Playable Games!

Story Highlight
  • GTA 5 can reach its loading screen through the experimental PS5 emulator, SharpEmu.
  • The result builds on an earlier KyTyPS5 milestone that only accessed the game’s menu.
  • Demon’s Souls has also reached character creation, although neither game is considered playable.

PS5 emulation continues to move forward. Following advancements in games like Ghost of Yotei and Demon’s Souls, GTA 5 seems to be showing another glimpse at a future with PS5 emulation for the masses.

Why it matters: PS5 emulation is significantly less mature than PS3 and PS4 emulation. Every successful milestone helps developers identify compatibility issues, but players should not expect a practical PS5 replacement anytime soon.

As reported by MarcelMedia, SharpEmu can now render the initial parts of GTA 5. The tweet shows an attached video with the game reaching its loading screen.

Although the game is unable to progress beyond this part for now, MarcelMedia has high hopes. Specifically, he believes GTA 5 could end up being the first 3D title to boot on this emulator.

Previously, KyTyPS5 v0.0.3 managed to access GTA 5’s menu, demonstrating that the emulator could boot into parts of the game without offering a functional gameplay experience.

All of this is great news, considering PlayStation has all but moved on from PC ports. Of course, PS5 emulation still has a long way to go, but the small updates coming every few days suggest it will one day become a reality.

For now, future demonstrations will need to show stable gameplay rather than menus and loading screens. Do these latest results make PS5 emulation look more promising, or is meaningful compatibility still too far away?

Let’s discuss all of this and more in the comments below.
