Ubisoft Has Spent Over $500 Million Developing Beyond Good And Evil 2

Story Highlight
  • Beyond Good and Evil 2’s development budget is now more than $500 million.
  • The game hasn’t been cancelled by Ubisoft, as the publisher believes it can deliver a return on investment.
  • Currently, the game’s budget puts it among the top 5 most expensive video games ever produced.

Ubisoft’s recent history of misfortune just got another chapter, with the studio announcing the cancellation of six games currently in development. Two developers were shut down by the French company, alongside the highly anticipated Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake.

However, even in this restructure, one game has once again survived and is still in development: Beyond Good and Evil 2. If reports are true, the publisher has now spent a whopping $500 million developing the sequel.

Why it matters: Beyond Good and Evil 2 is gaming’s most prominent example of sunk cost fallacy, as the game is no closer to releasing despite two decades of development.

Beyond Good and Evil 2
Beyond Good and Evil has now been in development for over 17 years.

As revealed by Insider Gaming, Beyond Good and Evil 2’s development budget is well-over the $500 million threshold, making it one of the most expensive titles in gaming history. Constant changes in direction and the lengthy production period are primarily responsible for this bloated budget.

The game has been in development for over 17 years, making its development cycle the longest in gaming history. However, despite a flurry of recent cancellations, Ubisoft has decided to continue production on Beyond Good and Evil 2, according to Insider’s sources.

According to the report, Ubisoft believes Beyond Good and Evil 2 has the potential to deliver value for all the money invested in the project. In addition, the French publisher feels that the title justifies the hefty $500 million investment

To put this budget into perspective, Beyond Good and Evil 2 could be one of the top 5 most expensive video games ever produced.

BG&E2 development
Despite decades of production, the sequel doesn’t have a release date.

To make matters worse, the sequel still doesn’t have a release date, and reports in 2025 suggested that it isn’t close to launching despite the current version of the game being in development since 2008.

Do you think Beyond Good and Evil 2 will ever be released, or is Ubisoft eventually going to cancel the game? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

How To Build A Gaming PC Setup Without Wasting Money

Story Highlight
  • Gaming PCs can seem quite expensive, but optimizing the building process can bring costs down.
  • Picking the right CPU/GPU combo, peripherals, and other components is important.
  • Building a PC suited to specific needs is also worth keeping in mind, since this can drive costs down further.

The PC gaming market is growing at an impressive pace, and it could soon cross the $200 billion threshold.

Unfortunately, the current AI crisis means that PC gaming is currently not as affordable as it should be. Now, more than ever, it’s important to understand how to optimize a PC build and save as much money as possible.

Why it matters: PC gaming offers incredible freedom compared to its console counterparts, making it a lot more appealing for those who wish to enjoy all types of games from all eras.

Prioritize Performance

Gaming
High-end gaming PCs are quite useful [Source: Slash Gear]
The number one priority when picking a PC should be the actual performance. This is quite self-explanatory, but smooth frame rates, low input lag, and visual fidelity come above everything else when looking at the larger picture.

The good news is that recent technological advances mean that even gaming mini PCs are quite capable and can deliver incredible amounts of performance in a compact form factor.

Pick The Right Components

The requirements for a gaming PC can change based on the games you play. For instance, I enjoy classic single-player titles and retro games. This means that I don’t necessarily need a very high-end CPU and GPU.

In the case of eSports titles where frame rate matters much more than fidelity, a high-end CPU takes priority over an expensive GPU. Elsewhere, the latest single-player titles with ray-tracing and other bells and whistles demand cutting-edge graphics cards.

This is why it’s important to understand the type of build suited to your personal requirements.

Balance CPU and GPU

Eliminating bottlenecks is essential when building a PC. The last thing I would want is to have an expensive GPU be held back by a low-end CPU.

Typically, it’s best to pair a mid-range GPU with a mid-range CPU or a high-end GPU with a high-end CPU for the best results. In some instances, one or the other being better can still work out, but a balanced approach is recommended for most cases.

Don’t Overspend on Memory and Storage

RAM is a lot more expensive than it used to be

Having enough RAM is important for modern games, but one can easily spend too much on this component. Making sure you have just enough RAM is recommended, particularly because prices are so high at the moment.

Similarly, fast storage beyond certain speeds leads to mostly diminishing returns, so tread carefully before spending hundreds of dollars on the latest NVMe SSDs.

Optimize Cooling Before Upgrades

The last thing you want is for your gaming PC to heat up during intense sessions, so cooling should not be taken lightly.

Improving airflow, using better fans, CPU coolers, etc is an important part of building a solid PC. An effective cooling setup can even make room for more performance through overclocking and stable CPU/GPU operation.

Invest In The Display And Peripherals

As an extension of the point I mentioned above about balancing CPU and GPU capabilities, you should also balance the entire PC build. There’s no point in having an amazing PC coupled with a poor display and cheap peripherals.

Look for a display that makes games look as great as possible while offering high refresh rates. Also, make sure to be willing to spend some money on a high-quality mouse and keyboard combo for seamless gaming in the long run. Personally, I even recommend picking up a DualSense or Xbox controller for games that work best on controllers.

Don’t Upgrade Too Frequently

Yes, the upgradability of PC gaming is quite appealing, but it’s best to upgrade every few years to save the most money. Slower upgrades typically tend to offer much bigger jumps in performance while costing less.

Also, keep in mind that subtle hardware improvements make upgrading after every few years a much better idea since newer generations of CPUs and GPUs bring benefits beyond the raw performance.

Ultimately, PC gaming is all about flexibility, so you should build a PC that best suits your needs without breaking the bank.

Why Xbox Game Pass Looks So Impressive In January 2026

Story Highlight
  • Xbox Game Pass delivered many hits last year, and the service is back with exciting games in January 2026.
  • This month is set to deliver Death Stranding 2 and Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, among other titles.
  • Games like Paw Patrol World and Starbound are also leaving the service soon.

Microsoft continues to bring one hit after another to Xbox Game Pass. Following major releases like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Doom: The Dark Ages, and Black Ops 7 last year, the service is heading into 2026 with a strong first month.

The titles coming to the service as part of January’s second wave were announced recently, and they are sure to be enticing for a large group of gamers.

Why it matters: 2026 is set to be a huge year for Xbox in general, and January is only the beginning.

Why Everyone Is So Excited

Xbox Game Pass
Game Pass’ Selection of Games Has Always Been Fantastic

It’s no secret that millions of PC and Xbox gamers enjoy the benefits of Microsoft’s subscription service each month.

The latest selection of games practically offers something for everyone, including fans of high-octane shooters and those fond of slower narrative games. Let’s also keep in mind the backlog of titles available on the service already.

For those who have yet to try the titles coming this month, I strongly suggest you buy Xbox Game Pass.

Titles Coming To Game Pass

death stranding
Death Stranding Is Heading To Game Pass

The following games will join the service as part of Wave 2:

  • Death Stranding Director’s Cut – January 21
  • Ninja Gaiden Ragebound – January 21
  • The Talos Principle 2 – January 27
  • Anno: Mutationem – January 28
  • Drop Duchy – January 28
  • MySims: Cozy Bundle – January 29
  • Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 – January 29
  • Final Fantasy II – February 3

What makes this list such a big deal is the presence of Death Stranding and Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2.

Although its sequel is not available on Xbox, Death Stranding brings the classic Hideo Kojima experience to Microsoft’s subscription service. The game was released on Xbox just over a year ago in late 2024, introducing it to a whole new audience.

With Game Pass now in the mix, the Death Stranding IP could grow a whole lot more popular, and this could serve as the perfect introduction if Death Stranding 2 arrives on PC later this year.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 was also lauded in 2024 for delivering a very old-school third-person shooter campaign reminiscent of Xbox 360 era shooter games. In particular, the game received praise for its visceral feel and hectic combat.

I enjoyed a lot of what Space Marine 2 offered, and I recommend it to anyone feeling nostalgic about the Xbox 360 era of gaming.

Games Leaving The Service

As always, certain games are set to rotate out of the service. By the end of the month, the following games will no longer be available:

  • Shady Part of Me
  • Starbound
  • Lonely Mountains Snow Riders
  • Paw Patrol World
  • Citizen Sleeper 2 Starward Vector
  • Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap

In the coming months, the likes of Gears of War: E-Day, Halo: Campaign Evolved, and Forza Horizon 6 will also launch on the service. Needless to say, it will be worth keeping an eye out for the service this year.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake Delayed By Up to a Year from Its Original Release

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft announced a strategic reset that led to a massive restructure across the publisher.
  • They’ve also delayed the remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag as part of the new operating model.
  • The remake is now expected before FY 2027.

Ubisoft was supposed to start 2026 off with a banger, releasing the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, followed by an Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake a few weeks later.

Unfortunately, the Sands of Time remake has been cancelled, and the Black Flag remake has been delayed by up to a year by Ubisoft.

Why it matters: Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is a fan-favourite, often considered as one of the best in the series. As such, a remake was highly anticipated by fans, but unfortunately, they won’t be seeing it anytime soon.

The Black Flag Remake Is Rumored To Feature RPG Mechanics Akin To The Newer Games

Ubisoft announced its strategic reset with a new press release, and one portion reads out:

the Group will allocate additional development time to 7 games in
order. This includes the unannounced title initially planned for FY26, that
has been delayed to FY27.

Overall, summarizing today’s events, Ubisoft has closed down 2 studios, shelved 6 games, and delayed 7 of its upcoming games. Out of the slate of the upcoming games, only one ‘uannounced’ game was planned for FY 2026 but has now been delayed to FY 2027.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag best fits the description for this ‘unannounced title’ as it was scheduled for a release around March 2026, which is just a couple of months before FY 2026 ends in June.

Assassin's Creed Codename HEXE
Assassin’s Creed Hexe, The Series’ Next Mainline Title Also Potentially Pushed Into 2027

The reason behind the delay is to ensure a quality release for fans as Ubisoft moves towards a gamer-centric company. Ubisoft Forward is expected to return this year, and we can hope for an Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced reveal then.

Also, it is notable to mention that a delay to FY 2027 means that it can release at anytime from June 2026-2027, but don’t expect it to stretch into next year since insiders already state that it’s close to completion. At best, expect a late 2026 release for the game.

Following Restructuring at Ubisoft, Their New Model Pivots Toward Live-Service and Open-World Games

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft went through a massive restructure that led to project cancellations and studio closures.
  • Now, their future operating model focuses on open-world and live-service games supported by Gen AI.
  • The publisher has formed a dedicated ‘Creative House’ to lead live-service games.

Ubisoft has gone through a major reset, and such a direction resulted in their Halifax and Stockholm offices being shut down in addition to 6 upcoming projects being shelved, which includes the highly anticipated Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake.

Now, the French publisher has laid out its plans for the future and will be working on a new operating model. This said model is centered around open-world and live-service games, supported by player-facing generative AI.

Why it matters: Live-service is a venture Ubisoft has failed in occasionally, and even after they’ve hit rock bottom, the publisher is still committed to going down this path.

Prince of Persia Remake Was Cancelled Even After The Development On The Project Was Restarted

Ubisoft’s latest press release reads:

The new operating model will further empower the execution of the Group’s strategy, centered on Open World Adventures and GaaS-native experiences, supported by – accelerated investments behind
player-facing Generative AI.

The open-world part makes sense; it is what the French-based company is known for. However, for the live-service part, the genre is risky, and Ubisoft has hardly found success going that route

Nevertheless, Ubisoft still believes in a future for live-service games and even went so far as to say that the single-player formula is outdated. Furthermore, they’re also interested in Generative AI and said that it’s a big gaming revolution, as 3D was.

Vantage Studios, The New Subsidiary Formed With Tencent Is The Reason Behind This Major Shakeup

As part of this restructuring, Ubisoft has also created dedicated ‘Creative Houses’ for each genre. CH3 is tasked with live-service games that include IPs like: The Crew, For Honour, Brawlhalla, Skulls and Bones, and Riders Republic.

Even after 6 cancellations, Ubisoft is working on 4 new IPs, and we expect at least one of them to be a live-service title.

Ubisoft Aims To Make Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six “Annual Billionare Brands”

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft says it wants to make its major franchises annual billion-dollar brands.
  • This seems too ambitious considering the mediocre performance in the last few years.
  • The studio has just cancelled Sands of Time Remake and another 5 games.

Ubisoft is fresh from cancelling the much-anticipated Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake after so much wait and speculation. The French giant is going through a major restructuring and has also set a new target for its flagship franchises.

Now, according to the same document that revealed the game Prince of Persia Remake cancellation, Ubisoft aims to make its major franchises: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six, “annual billionare brands”.

Why it matters: This seems rather ambitious, as none of Ubisoft’s franchises have even come close to generating this much profit in many years since their release, let alone every year.

Ubisoft Billionare Brands
The studio wants to make its major franchise annual billionare brands

The document explicitly states that Vantage Studio, its subsidiary with Tencent, is focused on extending and scaling established franchises to turn into annual-billion Dollar brands, so it must be planning something big for them.

Based on a report from last year, Assassin’s Creed, which undoubtedly is Ubisoft’s most successful franchise, managed about $4 billion in revenue in the last decade, which is way less than what the studio aims for in the future.

Assassin's Creed Shadows
The Assassin’s Creed franchise hasn’t been too successful for the last few years

The case is similar with both of the other major franchises as well. The Assassin’s Creed brand hasn’t been the same for the past few years, and its fan following has rapidly declined, so Ubisoft will have to fix that.

The studio is in a strange spot now, having canceled 6 games and delayed another 7 to enhance quality. There will also be another round of additional layoffs, after over 150 people already lost their jobs in 2026 alone.

Ubisoft Shuts Down 2 Studios, Cancels 6 In-Development Games Including Sands of Time Remake

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft closes its Halifax and Stockholm studios and lays off an unknown number of employees.
  • The publisher also cancelled 6 titles, including the Sands of Time remake, and delayed 7 additional upcoming games.
  • Separate creative houses have been formed to focus on specific parts of Ubisoft’s portfolio.

Not even a month into 2026, and Ubisoft has some really unfortunate news for fans.

As per their massive organizational, operational, and portfolio reset, they have decided to shut down 2 studios and have laid off an unknown number of employees, resulting in 6 projects being shelved, including the Sands of Time remake.

Why it matters: Ubisoft has downsized so much over the past few years that the company’s stock has fallen by 90%. Unfortunately, things aren’t getting better for the French Publisher.

Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag Remake
Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag Remake Now Releasing Before April 2027

In their new announcement, Ubisoft revealed that it is now closing its Halifax and Stockholm studios. In addition, the company announced layoffs, but it’s unclear how many people were affected by the restructuring.

The 6 cancelled projects included the Sands of Time remake, a mobile title, and 4 other projects, out of which 3 were original IPs. In addition to that, 7 future titles are being delayed to meet quality expectations. Now, the company is aiming to reduce fixed costs by €200 million over the next couple of years.

This strategic reset will now result in Ubisoft forming independent creative houses, each of which will focus on a specific part of the publisher’s portfolio. These decisions are made in an attempt to help Ubisoft ‘reclaim its creative leadership.’

The subsidiary formed with Tencent, Vantage Studios, will be its own thing, focusing on Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry games.

Ubisoft Live Service Games
Ubisoft Has Already Laid Off 150 (And Counting) Employees In 2026.

CH2 will focus on competitive and co-op shooters like Ghost Recon, The Division, and Splinter Cell IPs. CH3 is dedicated towards live-service experiences like The Crew, For Honour, Brawlhalla, Skulls and Bones, and Riders Republic.

Meanwhile, CH4 is dedicated to making fantasy and narrative IPs, including Anno, Might & Magic, Rayman, Prince of Persia, and Beyond Good & Evil. Lastly, CH4 is set to focus on family-friendly and casual games like Just Dance, Uno, and Hasbro, in an attempt to focus on this beat.

Now, Ubisoft is working on 4 additional brand-new IPs to be assigned to each of these creative houses. It’s unknown what these projects are, but expect them to be in their early development stages since the upcoming slate is already busy.

Crimson Desert Goes Gold Two Months Before Launch, Signaling No Further Delays

Story Highlight
  • Crimson Desert has gone gold two months earlier than release, making further delays unlikely despite previous setbacks.
  • Early impressions from media events describe the title as one of the most ambitious projects of the decade.
  • The game is set to launch on March 19 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Pearl Abyss (the developer and publisher behind Crimson Desert) has confirmed that the game has gone gold two months before its March 19 release. Crimson Desert is a hotly anticipated upcoming open-world action adventure game, which was originally under development as a prequel to Black Desert Online.

The game has been widely described online as an ‘everything’ game due to its massive size and its combination of many different game mechanics. Crimson Desert also received positive previews after journalists played the game at Gamescom 2024 and Summer Game Fest 2025.

Why it matters: Crimson Desert going gold basically confirms that the game will not receive another delay, which many fans had expected given the game’s massive scope and previous delays.

Ubisoft Cancels Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake and Delays 7 Other Titles

Story Highlight
  • The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake has now cancelled by Ubisoft.
  • The remake didn’t meet the publisher’s quality expectations despite development being restarted twice on it.
  • Additionally, 7 other projects at Ubisoft have also been delayed.

2026 was going to be the year that Ubisoft finally made its long-awaited comeback. Unfortunately, the French Publisher has endured another major setback, with one of the biggest guttings in the company’s history, which has shelved plans for a fan-favourite title.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake has now been cancelled by Ubisoft. The title was cancelled because it didn’t meet the publisher’s enhanced quality expectations.

Why it matters: Prince of Persia has been consistently neglected by Ubisoft despite being a prized IP and a fan favourite. This latest cancellation is proof that the company didn’t care about the IP at all, or else it would have made good progress on it.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake
Ubisoft Previously Said That The Development On The Remake Was Going Smooth

Ubisoft has just gone through a massive organizational, operational, and portfolio reset that has affected its upcoming plans. The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake that was supposedly releasing in January has now been permanently shelved.

Initially led by Ubisoft India, development on the project restarted after the first reveal received poor reception. Then, Ubisoft Montreal took lead on the project and despite a second start to the development, the end result wasn’t satisfactory.

As for future plans, Ubisoft has decided to delay 7 of its upcoming titles to ensure that they meet quality expectations. In the past, the publisher has been releasing unpolished titles, due to which the initial reception has been mixed, damaging the company’s reputation.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Anvil Engine
Despite Being A Good Title, AC Shadows Was Launched In An Incomplete State Which Effected It’s Critical Success

Now, following the formation of their subsidiary with Tencent, they have undergone a major shift. It isn’t confirmed which games have been delayed, but 7 overall games have been delayed, including one that was planned for before April 2026.

The aforementioned game could possibly be Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a remake of the 2013 title. The game was said to arrive soon after the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, but apparently, it has now been pushed.

Now, the delayed title is planned for before April 2027, and the release for these other delayed titles remains unknown.

Nvidia Underfire For Attempting To Access Pirated Documents to Train Its AI Models

Story Highlight
  • Nvidia reportedly contacted Anna’s Archives, an illegal site, to get pirated documents.
  • It greenlit a deal with the company despite being warned about its illegal nature.
  • This could lead to a lawsuit and legal issues for the company in the future.

Nvidia’s reputation hasn’t been the best in recent months, following the company’s criticism for being anti-consumer-friendly. There were reports that it is killing off its popular GPUs to maximize profits and cater more to AI data centers.

Now, another new controversy has arisen, which could create more trouble for the tech giants. Some court documents reveal that Nvidia greenlit a deal with a company that sells pirated documents to train its AI models.

Why it matters: Nvidia has been very AI-first ever since the tech became more mainstream, and to train its LLM models, it might have gone too far, even striking illegal deals to go up and beyond its competitors.

Nvidia Illegal Deal
Nvidia reportedly greenlit the deal despite being warned of its illegal nature

Torrentfreak has accessed legal court documents that reveal what exactly happened. Apparently, Nvidia had to meet a strict guideline to train its LLMs, for which it went so far as to try to gain access to illegal documents.

It contacted Anna’s Archives, a copyright-infringing site that obtains documents illegally and sells them. It has a bunch of books, research articles, and more that Nvidia was reportedly interested in.

NVIDIA Artificial Intelligence
NVIDIA has pivoted to AI as its core focus.

Despite being warned about the nature of the site by Anna’s Archives itself, Nvidia’s management reportedly greenlit the deal, sparking massive controversy. Now, it isn’t clear if the deal actually stood, but it does seem so.

This gives Nvidia a really bad look, considering the stature of the company. If the deal indeed fell through, it could face new lawsuits, which could put it into some huge issues in the future.

Former Marathon Director Dismisses Concord Comparisons, Says Bungie “Actually Made Something Good”

Story Highlight
  • Ex-Marathon art director dismissed any comparison to Concord, saying the game is actually good.
  • Joseph Cross said he didn’t take the negativity around the title personally as he believes in the work Bungie has done.
  • As per the former director, the team has created something really cool that will pan out.

After months of negativity and controversy, Marathon is finally set to launch worldwide this March. Despite already being one of the top 10 best-selling titles on Steam, many still expect the extraction shooter to fail at launch and hurt Bungie.

Fans have historically compared the title to PlayStation’s biggest live-service failure, Concord. But if you ask ex-Marathon art director Joseph Cross, the game won’t have the same fate as Concord.

Why it matters: No one can predict what will happen to Marathon, but despite its shortcomings, the game is a much more interesting offering than Concord ever was.

Bungie Marathon
Joseph Cross doesn’t think Marathon will die like Concord.

In a new interview with ReaderGrev, Joseph Cross stated that comparisons to Concord didn’t faze him, as Marathon will last in the long run. The former art director explained that he believes Bungie has created something really cool that will pan out, hence he didn’t take any of the negativity personally.

It’s difficult for me to take any of that stuff personally because I believe in the art, because I believe in what we’ve done. I think we Actually did something really cool, and I think it will pan out.

Cross said that he can’t control how the audience will react to the title, but he believes in the work the team has done on the extraction shooter.

According to the ex-art director, art is the most important thing in the face of criticism, and despite all the criticism, Marathon is excellent.

Bungie Marathon
Fans heavily criticised Marathon’s earlier visual style.

Sony’s upcoming extraction shooter did see a fair share of bad PR, from plagiarism allegations to negativity around its visual style. However, Joseph Cross thinks Marathon was just unlucky in this aspect, and the pre-launch reaction won’t make the game a sure-fire failure like Concord.

Do you think Marathon will be a failure like Concord, or will the Bungie title find a dedicated player base? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

AI Has Yet To Deliver Financial Gains As Industry’s Future Appears Grim, Most CEOs Admit

Story Highlight
  • A survey of 4,454 CEOs from 95 countries shows that AI has yet to deliver financial gains.
  • 56% of CEOs saw no cost benefits, but also did not suffer losses after its adoption.
  • 26% of CEOs admitted costs have decreased due to AI, while 22% reported an increase.

Many executives have claimed that AI is the future, and millions of dollars and other resources are being invested in various initiatives across enterprises. This has resulted in massive memory apocalypse affecting nearly all industries worldwide

A new survey, boasting a large pool of 4,454 CEOs across 95 countries, shows that reported financials across companies do not paint the rosy picture of AI often described by industry executives.

56% of the surveyed CEOs said their companies have seen no financial gains from investing in and adopting AI so far.

Why it matters: The survey confirms that AI has yet to deliver on the promises, which suggests a grim future for the industry. It’s unclear if the financial returns from investments in AI will improve in the future.

PWC's Latest Global CEO Survey
The massive survey found that 56% of CEOs saw no financial gains with AI || Image Source: PWC.

The latest global CEO survey by Professional Services Network PwC also highlights that only 30% of CEOs reported increased revenue from AI in the last year. 26% are also seeing lower costs, but this is where all the positives seem to end.

Only 12% of CEOs reported both of these positive outcomes after adopting AI in their companies, a much lower figure than many expected.

Meanwhile, 22% of CEOs reported that their costs have increased after investing in AI, suggesting that funding AI has backfired, at least so far.

22% of companies have lost revenue instead thanks to AI initiatives.
The chart shows the overall effects of AI use on various companies.

Therefore, many critics of AI have claimed that this AI boom is nothing more than a bubble waiting to pop in the next few years. This is expected to come true if financial gains from AI don’t improve worldwide by next year.

OpenAI is reportedly heading towards bankruptcy by mid-2027, for example. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has also warned about the AI bubble, saying it needs to be adopted more widely to ensure sustainability.
