Story Highlight
  • Beyond Good and Evil 2 was first announced in 2008, 17 years ago.
  • The title has seen a peculiar development cycle with delays and internal reboots.
  • New job listings suggest that it’s still not likely to come out anytime soon.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is one of the most curious Ubisoft cases in years. It was first announced 17 years ago, after the critical success of the first game. However, since then, it has undergone a peculiar development cycle and is still nowhere in sight.

According to multiple job listings found by Tech4Gamers, including those for a Technical Sound Designer and Senior Character ArtistBeyond Good and Evil 2 is likely still years away, has yet to enter the final polishing stage, and still appears to be somewhere in the middle of the development.

Why it matters: After so many years, fans might have forgotten that the game exists, but they will be glad to know it’s still alive, although the release remains a huge question mark.

We came across a couple of Ubisoft job listings recently. As mentioned earlier, these include the ‘Technical Sound Designer‘ and ‘Senior Character Artist‘ for Beyond Good and Evil 2.

For context, character design and sound design are typically completed during a game’s early to mid-development cycle. However, since Ubisoft is still seeking individuals to do these things, it suggests that the game’s completion is still a considerable time away.

They aren’t even done with character designing, which is a basic step to begin with. Remarkably, the studio hasn’t canceled the game as many expected, given the many years it has taken.

This means it has also cost them a lot, and they would be hoping to capitalize on the final product.

However, the final product doesn’t seem to be coming anytime soon; the only positive thing is that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still alive. Over the years, it has been delayed and internally rebooted, but it’s still here.
