Nearly 50% of Games Released on Steam in October Disclosed AI Use, Up From 1.7% in 2024

Double From October Last Year!

Story Highlight
  • AI adoption in the gaming industry is increasing abruptly, with major studios now using it.
  • Data reveals nearly 50% of the games released last month had an AI disclosure tag.
  • This is double compared to last year, and a huge jump from 1.7% in January 2024.

We’ve seen massive worldwide adoption of AI in recent years, and the gaming industry, in particular, is now going all in. So much so that reports indicate nearly every major Japanese studio now uses the tech for game development.

A new analysis shows that nearly 50% of games released in October 2026 disclosed using AI. This is nearly double that of the same month last year, and up from just 1.7% in January 2024, highlighting the mass adoption.

Why it matters: Whether fans like it or not AI is now the reality, but it’s use it what makes the whole thing controversial. It’s fine when it’s used for expediting stuff, but when studios over-rely on it, it turns into AI slop.

Almost half of the games released on Steam in October disclosed AI-generated content (49.9%, up from 1.7% in January 2024)

A Redditor analyzed the AI detection tag on Steam games over the past few years. This October, 49.9% of the games released on the platform disclosed the use, which is almost double that of 2025, when it was 26.4%.

Additionally, January 2024 had just a 1.7% disclosure rate. Steam forces publishers that use the tech to reveal it in the description, so this clearly shows that AI is being used more and more by different studios and companies.

Building a new gaming rig is getting expensive by the day, thanks to the ongoing memory shortage.
Many studios are now using the tech to help with game development

However, it should be noted that this mainly includes smaller games. Big-budget AAA games are still mostly human-made, with AI being used only for temporary textures to expedite development, but that could change.

Fully AI-made games aren’t a thing as of yet; however, we are headed in that direction. But again, this will mostly be for smaller titles, as AAA games require a lot of effort, and without the human touch, creativity is compromised.
