Final Fantasy Franchise Has Sold Over 195 Million Units to Date

Story Highlight
  • The Final Fantasy franchise has sold over 195 million worldwide units.
  • It is a 10 million increase in sales compared to last year’s official sales figures.
  • The Dragon Quest franchise has also sold more than 91 million lifetime units.

Final Fantasy is one of the most popular gaming franchises of all time. Dating back to the late 80s, it has been around for a long time. Because its popularity is still higher than ever, it is no surprise that the Final Fantasy series has sold over 195 million units so far.

Why it matters: Final Fantasy is Square Enix’s most popular franchise, and that is clear from the lifetime units it has sold.

Square Enix has sold over 195 million units of Final Fantasy games

For the last few years, Final Fantasy was mostly a PlayStation exclusive, but recently, Square announced a shift towards multiplatform, starting with the PC port of Final Fantasy 16.

According to a new update, Final Fantasy has topped 195 million units while Dragon Quest sits at 91 million units sold worldwide. This is a 10 million unit increase in Final Fantasy sales compared to their last sales figures revealed in September 2023.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth sales were underwhelming.

Despite this, Square Enix’s latest financial report was disappointing. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth sales weren’t as expected, pushing the company’s stocks to a 13-year low. As a result, they announced that all Final Fantasy games will now be available on Xbox.

Square Enix is currently undergoing major changes. It has shifted its strategies and even reduced its game lineup to focus more on quality.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Requires Ryzen 9 7950X and RTX 4080 for 4K/60FPS

Story Highlight
  • To play Dragon Age: The Veilguard at 4K resolution and 60 FPS, players will need a Ryzen 9 7950X processor and RTX 4080.
  • For 1080p at high settings, an RTX 2070 or better GPU is recommended.
  • Moreover, the game requires 100 GB of storage on an SSD.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard sure has stunning visual fidelity. However, you’ll need a powerful gaming setup if you want to play at the best graphics—4K resolution at 60 frames per second.

This means using flagship components like the Ryzen 9 7950X processor and RTX 4080 GPU.

Why it matters: BioWare announced they spent over 200K hours testing the game, yet the official requirements point towards an unoptimized PC port.

Dragon Age The Veilguard PC Requirements
These are some hefty requirements to play Dragon Age: The Veilguard

With Dragon Age: The Veilguard, BioWare has set a high bar for gaming hardware, particularly at the highest settings. If you want to play in 4K at 60 FPS, you’ll need a Ryzen 9 7950X and an RTX 4080 to support the game’s demanding visuals.

These powerful components are built to handle high-resolution graphics and complex lighting effects, dynamic environments, and the dense worlds BioWare is known for.

While the demands for a 4K/60FPS experience are high, BioWare has ensured that Dragon Age: The Veilguard remains accessible for more PC gamers. For those playing at 1080p with lower settings, the minimum requirements are much easier to meet.

An Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 3 3300X and a GTX 970 or GTX 1650 will allow for the lowest settings. These specs are aimed at users who want to enjoy the game without stressing their hardware.

Even at these lower settings, The Veilguard promises decent visuals, though it won’t feature all the advanced graphics. To play at high settings at 1080p, the game will require players to have RTX 2070 or a better GPU.

Dragon Age The Veilguard
The Veilguard is looking like another unoptimized PC port.

Additionally, Dragon Age: The Veilguard requires 100 GB of storage on SSDs, which has become standard for modern games. This large file size comes from its high-resolution assets, detailed environments, and over 700 characters.

However, BioWare has also ensured that players with mid-range setups can still enjoy the game. The developers’ only problem is that the game still hasn’t entered Steam’s top-sellers list two weeks before launch.

What do you think of Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s requirements? Is your rig ready for the game? Let us know in the comments below or join the discussion at Tech4Gamers’ official forum.

Following RDR 1, Rockstar Needs To Port Red Dead Revolver Next

Story Highlight
  • After years of waiting, Red Dead Redemption is finally coming to PC.
  • It’s time to complete the series by reviving the first one, Red Dead Revolver, as well.
  • Red Dead Revolver may not be open-world, but it’s a highly underrated third-person shooter with impressive gameplay mechanics.

With gaming making steady progress, the need to preserve past titles and classics has become greater than ever. It’s important to never forget the gems that made it possible for today’s games to reach such heights. Plus, they serve as a reminder of what gaming embodied back then: an evergrowing pursuit of greatness.

This point becomes even more critical when we consider that this is an era of remakes and remasters. Unfortunately, many needless re-releases exist today, but sometimes, a genuinely worthy title does get to enjoy the spotlight once again. Rockstar has recently given its undeniable gem that chance.

Why it matters: Rockstar has finally released Red Dead Redemption on PC. However, the originator of the series, Red Dead Revolver, is still dead and deserves to be revived, too.

Red Dead Redemption Finally Has A PC Port

The gem I’m talking about is none other than Red Dead Redemption. I don’t even need to tell you just how beloved RDR 2 is for today’s gamers. However, regardless of their desire, the second entry was all they could play. That’s because Red Dead Redemption was stuck on the PS3 and Xbox 360 for over 13 years.

RDR 2 has an unbelievable following (Image by IMDB)
RDR 2 has an unbelievable following (Image by IMDB)

This changed last year when Rockstar decided to answer its fans’ calls and bring back Red Dead Redemption for the PS4 and Switch. Believe me, that was a wild day. Seeing it return after more than a decade was certainly celebration-worthy. However, PC players couldn’t reciprocate these feelings since they were ignored.

It was heartbreaking, considering most RDR 2 fans are on PCs now. However, now I understand that Rockstar didn’t overlook them; the PC port simply took longer, it seems.

FINALLY!!! Red Dead Redemption 1 for PC
byu/Richardgbg06 inSteamDeck

Red Dead Redemption is finally arriving on PC at the end of October, with enhanced visuals and a $50 price tag. Though this price for a 2010 game is questionable, it’s not surprising considering it’s Rockstar (remember all the GTA 5 re-releases?). Getting to play RDR on PC is a dream of many enthusiastic gamers.

What About Red Dead Revolver?

If you think Red Dead Redemption is the first game in the series, I wouldn’t be surprised in the least. It gained the most traction and fame, completely overshadowing the fact that there was another, the one that started it all.

Finally, we PC players can rejoice (Image by IMDB)
Finally, we PC players can rejoice (Image by IMDB)

It began in 2000 when Capcom collaborated with Angel Studios for its new IP with a Western theme. However, Take-Two, the Rockstar parent, acquired Angel Studios, renamed it Rockstar San Diego, and changes at Capcom caused the game to be canceled. However, Rockstar saw potential in what was in the works.

Thus, it acquired the rights to Red Dead Revolver and finished the game in 2004. Though it was not as well-received, I genuinely believe it is a highly underrated title and among Rockstar’s finest works.

Red Dead Revolver appreciation post. This game is often forgotten as the first in the red dead series.
byu/SpikyMonsters inreddeadredemption

Instead of the open world you see in the two RDR games, Red Dead Revolver was level-based with a single explorable hub called Brimstone in between. It was primarily a third-person shooter with remarkable gameplay and shooting mechanics. The way you could have stand-offs with certain bosses and enemies was genuinely exciting.

Bring Back The Series’ Origins

All in all, it was a fantastic game criminally overlooked. I’ll be honest with you, and I’m sure this statement will paint a target on my back, but I’m not too much of a fan of the RDR duology’s gameplay. There are certain factors, like the approach to the open world and the shooting mechanics, that I wish were different.

Red Dead Revolver is an underrated gem (Image by IMDB)

Red Dead Revolver does those things better than its successors. Yes, the world design and engagement are nowhere near that, and the story is a lot more refined in the latter two, but Red Dead Revolver handled gameplay mechanics pretty well and still holds up effectively for a 2004 game.

byu/onex7805 inpatientgamers

Besides, if it wasn’t for Red Dead Revolver, the series you know and love wouldn’t exist. Considering how much people adore RDR today, they’ll be more than eager to give something that started it all a try, and Rockstar needs to capitalize on that popularity.

Red Dead Revolver might not have been a hit back then, but it can certainly be one today. Besides, it’s still stuck on the PS2 and Xbox (The PS4 version is not a true port). Since Rockstar has brought back Red Dead Redemption, it’s the perfect time to port Red Dead Revolver, too.

Santa Monica Working On A New IP Is A Logical Step Beyond God of War

Story Highlight
  • A recent job listing has suggested that Santa Monica may be working on a new IP.
  • While nothing has been officially announced, I believe it’s great and logical for the developers to work on something new.
  • The studio has only worked on the God of War franchise in the last two decades.

Santa Monica has been one of Sony’s biggest party developers for over two decades. The developers started with Kinetica, a racing game released in 2001 for PS2.

Soon after that, the developers worked on the first game in the God of War franchise in 2005, and to this date, Santa Monica hasn’t worked on any other franchise. Around the last two decades, God of War has been the only franchise they have worked on.

However, a recent job listing suggests the developers may be working on a new IP. While this hasn’t been officially confirmed, I believe the recent rumors make sense.

Why it matters: The work on the God of War franchise is still ongoing, as another job listing that the team may work on multiple titles in the franchise, and one of them could be the Atreus spin-off

Santa Monica Has Proven Itself Enough With The GOW Franchise

God of War Ragnarok
The Last Entry In The Franchise Was Released Around 2 Years Ago

I think Santa Monica should be allowed to work on something different and new, as the developers have proven themselves enough with the God of War franchise. Starting from the first entry released in 2005 to the latest entry released in 2022, all have been critically acclaimed and enjoyed by almost everyone.

With every new entry, Santa Monica had always done its best to offer something better and unique, making the experience much more enjoyable, and so on; the studio got stuck on the franchise and couldn’t get the time to work on anything else.

While many reports still suggest that the studio may be working on multiple God of War games, I hope that the studio gives it a break for a while and works on a new IP, something I and other fans of the studio have been waiting for years.

Santa Monica is such a credible studio that it makes me wonder how many amazing franchises they would have developed if they worked on something besides God of War in the past. Nonetheless, I think it’s still not too late for the change

Santa Monica Could Be Working On A New Sci-fi Franchise

God of War Ragnarok
God of War Ragnarok DLC Was Also Released Earlier This Year

Although nothing has been officially announced, based on some recent speculations, the studio may be working on a new sci-fi IP.

Not too long ago, one of the Santa Monica developers hinted that the studio was working on a new sci-fi IP. The job listing was then shared on the studio’s official site, confirming that they were working on a new IP.

If true, I am more than excited to see how the team would pull off in the genre.

Since the team has only worked on the God of War franchise in the last two decades, an action-adventure franchise, I am curious to see how it would develop a sci-fi-based IP.

Santa Monica Working On A New IP Is Also Great For PlayStation

PlayStation
PlayStation Iconic And Most Beloved Franchises

PlayStation has always focused on new IPs from first-party developers. Likes of God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Ghost of Tsushima, Uncharted, The Last of Us, and many others have proven to be great success for the company.

It helped PlayStation sell more consoles overall as its exclusive first-party titles are worth buying it for. Therefore, I think it has been an excellent strategy for PlayStation to build more franchises from first-party developers.

While recent releases like Stellar Blade and Helldivers 2 have seen great success, it proves that many players like me are always looking for new and unique experiences. Santa Monica working on a new IP fits well even with the PlayStation’s strategy.

Although nothing is confirmed at the moment, I really hope the studio works on something new and takes on a new challenge.

Xbox Game Pass’s Fall 2024 Lineup Shines Bright, Even with Avowed’s Delay

Story Highlight
  • The Xbox Game Pass fall lineup is full of amazing titles.
  • While Avowed was recently delayed due to Game Pass’s busy lineup, I believe the team made a great call.
  • Titles like Stalker 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and Indiana Jones and The Great Circle will be available on day one of the subscription service.

Ever since its launch in 2017, Xbox Game Pass has done wonders for Microsoft. The subscription service is currently the biggest gaming industry, with over 34 million players subscribing to the platform.

Although Xbox hasn’t been doing great this generation compared to Sony or Nintendo, the Game Pass keeps the company’s spirit alive. While the service has offered some amazing titles throughout the year, it’s going to get more interesting for the rest of the year.

As 2025 is almost around the corner, many games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and others are coming before the end of the year. Recently, Avowed developers decided to push back their release to 2025 because of the busy lineup of the Game Pass.

Looking at the Game Pass lineup for the rest of the year, I believe it will still shine bright even after the delay of Avowed.

Why it matters: Game Pass not only lets players enjoy Xbox first-party titles at launch but also offers many third-party games at launch.

Stalker 2 & Indiana Jones Are Among The Most Anticipated Titles

STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl
STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl Is Finally Coming Later This Year After Much Delays

Finally, after many delays and nearly two decades after the first entry in the franchise, Stalker 2 is finally coming in late November.

Following the controversy of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Stalker 2 has been my most anticipated title for the rest of the year. It looks stunning in the recent screenshots, and I hope the developers have taken enough time to develop it, as the title has been delayed multiple times in the past.

Therefore, the game will likely not disappoint us at launch. However, the Series S port might be in trouble, as the team recently confirmed that Stalker 2 is running at 25 FPS on the budget console, but work is ongoing to make it run better.

Of course, Stalker 2, voted the most anticipated title for the end of 2024, will be released on day one on Game Pass. However, that’s not the only one I’m looking for, as MachineGames’ Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is also coming before the end of the year.

It also looks stunning in the recent trailers and has been confirmed to be coming on the PlayStation 5 at launch. However, the title would still be available on day one on Game Pass, which is, of course, a much better option for PC and Xbox gamers.

These two titles will be among the biggest hits of the year, and I can’t wait to enjoy both of these titles on Xbox’s subscription service.

Black Ops 6 Will Also Arrive Day One On Game Pass

Call of Duty Black Ops 6
Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Launching Day One on Game Pass

This year’s Call of Duty title, Black Ops 6, will hit Game Pass on day one, as Microsoft recently acquired Activision Blizzard.

The title will be one of the biggest games ever, as it takes 310 GB of storage on Xbox. While many people are skeptical about the title’s sales as it’s coming day one on Game Pass, I believe it won’t be hurt as Call of Duty is too big of a franchise.

It’s crazy to think Black Ops 6 will be released on day one on the Game Pass, but it’s been official for a while. While not all the perks will be given on the base model of the subscription services, the players will still be able to play the title at launch.

Much More Titles Are Coming On The Subscription Service

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Is Launching In November

While I have already mentioned some of the biggest games on Game Pass in the following months, there are still many more titles like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Frostpunk 2, and many others that are also coming before the end of this year.

I believe the delay of Avowed was good for the title. The Game Pass lineup for fall appears to be full, as over five big titles are launching on day one in just three months, making the subscription service worth the money.

GameMax Improves RGB-Smart Lineup With ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 Models

The GameMax Power Supply Supports A Range of RGB Sync Technologies

According to GameMax, a powerful +12V facilitates the needs of high-end graphics cards. Elsewhere, a DC-DC design is used for the +5V and +3.3V outputs for additional efficiency.

Other exciting features include a silent 140mm fan with a lifespan of up to 40,000 hours, a PCB copper foil for stronger connection, and Japanese 105°C capacitors. These capacitors ensure protection against high voltages, short circuits, and high temperatures.

10 New Titles For Xbox Game Pass Have Been Announced

Story Highlight
  • Xbox was previously criticized for increasing the prices of its subscription services.
  • However, even after the price hike, the Game Pass Ultimate is a really good deal.
  • Microsoft makes the service even better by announcing 10 new titles coming in October and early November.

Xbox Game Pass has become a really solid offer for consumers even after the price hike. The ultimate edition is a steal due to many day-one AAA releases. Games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will also be released on day one on Game Pass Ultimate.

Microsoft is gradually turning Xbox into a subscription-based business, and it seems to be working well. The gaming giant has now announced 10 new titles for the subscription service, which increases its worth even more.

Why it matters: Xbox is making Game Pass more viable for users. Instead of focusing on the hardware market, the giant seems to be investing in its subscription service.

Call of Duty Black Ops 6
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Will Release Day One on Xbox Game Pass on October 25

The following are the titles coming to Game Pass:

  • Ashen: October 29 on cloud, console, and PC.
  • Donut County: October 17 on cloud, console, and PC.
  • Dead Island 2: October 29 on PC.
  • MechWarrior 5: Clans: October 17 on cloud, console, and PC.
  • StarCraft: Remastered: November 5 on PC.
  • Call of Duty: Warzone: October 25 on cloud.
  • StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection: November 5 on PC.
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 – October 25 on cloud, console, and PC.
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 October 25 on cloud.
  • South Park: The Fractured but Whole October 29 on cloud, console, and PC.

These are the 10 titles coming to Game Pass, and most of them are pretty great. It seems like the gaming giant is still expanding Game Pass Ultimate’s catalogue to attract even more consumers.

There will also be a lot more AAA games coming to the subscription service on day one. While there are 10 titles coming to the service, fans should also note that 5 will be leaving on October 31st. However, those aren’t notable releases, so many might not even care.

Xbox Game Pass
Game Pass Ultimate is A Steal Even After The Price Hike

Also, according to a November report, those who sign up for the Xbox Insider program will be able to test owned streaming games.

The gaming giant has also announced a partner preview for the coming Thursday, which, according to a report, will feature a very big reveal.

What do you think of all these titles coming to Game Pass Ultimate? Do you find any title good enough for you to get the service? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section, or join the official Tech4Gamers forums

Bandai Namco Reportedly Cutting Workforce; Various Projects Canceled

Story Highlight
  • Bandai Namco is reportedly forcing employees to resign as a way to reduce its workforce.
  • Multiple projects, including Naruto, One Piece, and a Nintendo project, have been scrapped.
  • The company says it isn’t forcing the employees and that the cancelation is a researched move.

As the uncertainty in the industry continues, Bandai Namco seems to be the next big name reducing its workforce. According to a new report, instead of laying off, Bandai is taking the traditional Japanese route and pressurizing the employees to leave on their own.

Why it matters: Despite marking a successful year with launches like Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree and Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Bandai is reportedly canceling a bunch of projects in development and reducing the head count.

Elden-Ring-DLC-Visuals
Bandai Namco recorded great Elden Ring DLC sales.

As reported by Bloomberg, Bandai Namco is moving its workers to separate rooms where they don’t have anything to work on, pressurizing them to resign as a consequence. As of now, over 200 workers have been moved to these rooms, leading to 100 resignations

Our decisions to discontinue games are based on comprehensive assessments of the situation.

In addition, they have also reportedly canceled some of their future projects. Bandai Namco was tipped to be working on games featuring Naturo and One Piece, which now might have been scraped as part of their process. A Nintendo contract project may also fail to see the light of the day.

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero 3 million sales
Dragon Ball Sparking Zero has already sold 3 million units

A Bandai representative talked to Bloomberg about the situation and said that they are not ‘Oidashi beya.’ This is the term used for moving employees to different rooms and stripping them of any work leading to them resigning from their positions.

He further stated that the cancelation of the projects was a well-thought-out move, taking into account the current industry. However, it is really sad that these games won’t come out, especially after the solid work Bandai has done with Sparking Zero.

AMD Set To Launch The Ryzen 9800X3D Earlier Than Expected

Story Highlight
  • The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D will be released in early November, competing with Intel’s Core Ultra 200S launching on October 24.
  • It features 8 cores, 16 threads, a boost clock of up to 5.2 GHz, and a total cache of 104 MB (32 MB L3, 64 MB 3D V-Cache, 8 MB L2).
  • Initial tests show mixed results; it outperforms its predecessor by 11% in Far Cry 6 but only marginally in other games.

In recent weeks, a few leaks have been reported on the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 3D V-Cache CPU, revealing information regarding its specifications and overall performance in gaming and apps.

Why it matters: The upcoming launch is particularly crucial as it coincides with Intel’s Core Ultra 200S “Arrow Lake” series, which is set to debut just days before. This puts pressure on AMD to ensure that the 9800X3D lives up to its promises.

Image Via: Chiphell Forums

According to wjm47196, a member of the Chiphell Forum, the retail launch of the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 3D V-Cache CPU is scheduled for the first week of November.

This indicates that AMD is optimistic that the new 3D V-Cache component can compete with Intel’s Core Ultra 200S “Arrow Lake” lineup, which is scheduled to launch on October 24.

In terms of specs, the Ryzen 9800X3D is expected to have an all-core boost clock of up to 5.2 GHz, which is faster than the 7800X3D’s 5.0 GHz single-core frequency. Furthermore, the single-core frequency is expected to be 500 MHz higher than the 9700X, which is rated at 5.5 GHz.

The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D will also come equipped with 8 cores, 16 threads, 32 MB of L3, and 64 MB 3D V-Cache SRAM for a total of 96 MB of cache and an extra 8 MB of L2 cache, bringing the total size to 104 MB.

Based on new information recently revealed, AMD’s Ryzen 9800X3D processor might not provide the significant gaming performance boost that several leaks have previously indicated.

The Ryzen 9800X3D outperformed its predecessor in Far Cry 6 by 11%. The difference in performance is much less negligible in games like Black Myth: Wukong (where the 9800X3D scored only 2% higher) and Shadow of the Tomb Raider (where the difference is only 4%).

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero Hits Three Million Sales In Only 24 Hours After Release

Story Highlight
  • Dragon Ball Sparking Zero has already sold over three million copies in only 24 hours after its successful release.
  • The entry has not only been selling like hotcakes but also secured a massive active player count on Steam.
  • Bandai Namco thanked the players for helping achieve this alluring feat and told us to look forward to hearing more from them.

It is no surprise by now that Dragon Ball Sparking Zero has surpassed the expectations of fans and skeptics alike. The entry has been performing remarkably even before its official release, which already pointed towards a bright future for the Budokai Tenkaichi franchise. However, the game has already achieved a massive feat in a single day after release that no one saw coming.

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero has already sold over three million copies in only 24 hours after launch. The feat has been making rounds in the community to show that the game has not only been selling like hotcakes but has already formed a loyal player base.

Why it matters: This game selling over three million copies in just a matter of a single day suggests that the franchise is more popular than ever before. The game has performed exceptionally, both in terms of sales and active player counts.

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero has proven to be extremely popular both with new players and veterans of the franchise.
Dragon Ball Sparking Zero has proven to be extremely popular with new players and veterans of the franchise.

In a new blog post, Bandai Namco announced that Dragon Ball Sparking Zero has sold quite well after launch.
