Avowed Reportedly Pushed Back To 2025 Due To Busy Game Pass Lineup

Xbox Wants To Give Avowed More Breathing Room!

Story Highlight
  • Avowed is in the final stages of development.
  • Obsidian previously stated it would launch in Fall 2024, but a report states that the RPG has been delayed until early 2025.
  • This seems to be due to Stalker 2 and other big titles releasing on Game Pass during Fall 2024.

Following Xbox’s latest showcase, there’s no question about its first-party lineup. Even for 2024, the gaming giant has titles like Stalker 2, Indiana Jones, and Black Ops 6 coming up. All of these will also launch on Game Pass from day one.

However, Avowed is one of Xbox’s biggest first-party titles for 2024. Currently slated for Fall 2024, this RPG was shaping up to be a major release for the entire industry. A new report states that these plans have changed, and the RPG has been delayed to 2025.

Why it matters: Games are typically delayed due to technical reasons. The report states that Avowed’s situation is not the same.

STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl
Stalker 2 May Have Caused The Delay

According to Tom Warren, Xbox will soon announce a delay for Avowed. After this announcement, the game will target an early 2025 launch.

It seems this is being done because Stalker 2 was delayed to November. This game has already seen various delays in the past, but the latest delay pushed it back by two months.

The report outlines that Microsoft wants to leave more breathing room for Avowed. Xbox fears that everything heading to Game Pass might overshadow Obsidian’s RPG later this year.

It is also said that the RPG is in good shape. However, further time to polish is never a bad thing.

Since Xbox is gearing up for a major Gamescom presence, it may officially announce the new date at this event. The likes of Indiana Jones could also receive release dates at the same event.

It has also been revealed that Obsidian is currently working on a third project. Therefore, this delay should allow the team ample time to continue focusing on everything that is currently being worked on.
