Starfield Reportedly Launching On PS5 On April 7, Pre-Orders Go Live Later This Month

Story Highlight
  • Starfield’s long-rumored PS5 port is reportedly releasing next month on April 7.
  • It will launch with 2 editions: A Standard at €49.99, and a Premium at €69.99.
  • The pre-orders are expected to go live this month, possibly from March 17.

As Xbox continues with its multiplatform approach despite the change in leadership, the next game headed to PS5 is Starfield. After months of rumors, the port appears to be ready, and the launch is reportedly closer than ever.

A reliable leaker has revealed that Starfield is launching on PS5 on April 7. It will launch with a Standard and Premium version, but unlike its Xbox release, the more expensive version won’t grant any early access.

Why it matters: A few years ago, no one would’ve expected Microsoft to launch its flagship titles on Team Blue. While it was mostly disappointing, Starfield was being positioned as the next big thing from Bethesda.

Starfield
Starfield’s long-rumored PS5 port to release next month

This comes via Billbil-kun, who has always been spot on with their leaks. Starfield’s PS5 port is now just over a month away from launch. Interestingly, the standard variant will be priced at €49.99 / £44.99.

This suggests that it could launch at $49.99, which is the same price Avowed launched on PS5. This seems to be Xbox’s strategy for launching games on PS5: discounting them from their original $69.99 price.

Starfield
The title was supposed to be Xbox’s next big exclusive IP

Anyways, this could be Starfield’s last opportunity to make an impact. Todd Howard teased that it’ll add new content, but it won’t be a complete overhaul like Cyberpunk’s 2.0 update, so expectations need to be managed.

Next Mainline God of War Title Returning To Roots With Gameplay Closer To Devil May Cry

Story Highlight
  • The next mainline God of War game reportedly focuses more on action gameplay than the Norse saga.
  • Reports suggest the title is taking inspiration from Devil May Cry and could be shown officially later this year.
  • The game is said to feature Faye as the playable lead, potentially ditching Kratos this time.

The God of War franchise has been through one major shake-up in the form of the Norse saga, and it seems another one is around the corner. In addition to newly announced remakes of the Greek trilogy, Santa Monica Studio is currently working on a new mainline title.

This game is said to be an action-focused adventure like the Norse titles, but it seems it will feature gameplay similar to Devil May Cry.

Why it matters: God of War’s intense combat was a highlight in the Greek trilogy, so Santa Monica Studio could be eyeing a return to form.

God of War
The Next GOW Might Land Halfway Between The Greek And Norse Saga In Terms of Gameplay

Multiple insiders have recently stated that the next God of War project is described as an “action game.” The latest report on the matter comes from the reliable leaker Nate The Hate, who states that the gameplay will be more action-focused than the Norse titles.

This statement has been corroborated by insider Nick Baker. According to his sources, the project has been described as being similar to Devil May Cry. This is interesting since God of War originally took inspiration from Devil May Cry and ultimately offered a more simplified take on the hack-and-slash formula.

Perhaps the most interesting part of these leaks is that God of War’s next title is set to feature Faye as the lead and playable character. For those needing a refresher, Faye is Kratos’ wife from the Norse saga who also appeared in God of War Ragnarok.

God of War Faye
Faye Played A Major Role In Kratos’ Life

With the arrival of a new series lead, the next mainline God of War title could prove to be more experimental before Santa Monica Studios eventually revisits Kratos.

Some have also speculated whether the action-focused gameplay changes made to Faye’s combat will trickle down to the Greek era remakes announced last month. For context, there was chatter about a new combat system being introduced to these games.

Anyhow, it appears God of War is heading in a very interesting direction. According to the report, the game could also be shown off as early as 2026.

Leaks Suggest GTA 6 Initially Began Development As A PS4 Game

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 title IDs spotted on PlayStation suggest the game had a PS4 version at some point.
  • This version likely existed in the very early stages of development, potentially due to a lack of PS5 development kits from Sony.
  • GTA 6 is currently scheduled to launch for the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X.

GTA 6 is officially less than 10 months away, and marketing for the title is expected to kick off very soon. Recently, the game’s title IDs were also spotted on the PlayStation Store backend, suggesting that pre-orders will be opened up soon.

As the gaming community eagerly awaits the release of GTA 6, many are curious about what new information Rockstar Games will share. While fresh details about the new game are slowly coming out, a large number of players are also paying close attention to any new GTA 5 updates. This shows how the studio is working to keep its current, popular game exciting while also getting ready for the next big release in the series.

Why it matters: In the past, Rockstar launched at least two GTA games per console, but this trend changed with the PS4. The new finding suggests this trend could have stayed the same.

Rockstar Is Skipping PC At Launch

Following the game’s title IDs appearing on PlayStation, a glitch allowed gamers to showcase GTA 6 among their recently played titles on the platform.

As shared on Twitter by Amethyst, the IDs on PlayStation actually point to a PS4 version instead of a native PS5 title, hinting that a PS4 version of GTA 6 exists in some form on the PlayStation Store’s backend.

Does this mean that Rockstar will launch its upcoming title on the PS4? Probably not. However, it does suggest that GTA 6 may have been in the works for the PS4 at some point.

This is interesting since the game’s full development accelerated after the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2, meaning Rockstar may not have had PS5 development kits at the time.

More importantly, GTA 6 was in early production even before Red Dead Redemption 2’s release, so the fact that it started development on the PS4 does add up. However, the game has likely evolved so much since then that the mysterious PS4 version of GTA 6 might not even look remotely similar to what fans have seen in the recent trailers.

Rockstar Is Eyeing A PS5/Xbox Series S|X Launch For November

As it stands, the game is shaping up to be one of the current generation’s most ambitious productions to date, so a PS4 port is out of the question. In fact, the title is unlikely to even run at 60FPS on the PS5, leaving the PS4 completely out of luck in such a scenario.

What do you think about this finding? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Research Firm Predicts The End of Sub-$500 Budget PC Segment by 2028

Story Highlight
  • Research firm says that the budget PC segment will completely disappear by 2028.
  • Vendors won’t be able to absorb the growing costs, making entry-level hardware dead.
  • The PC market is expected to see an overall 10.4% decline in global shipments in 2026.

There is no secret that PC component pricing is skyrocketing at this point. Building a PC seems like a really bad deal, especially if you are in the market for a budget build. However, it is predicted to get a whole lot worse in the upcoming years.

A new report from a research firm states that the sub-$500 entry-level PC segment will disappear by 2028. Due to the price increases, vendors will be unable to absorb prices, hence they’ll drop the budget market.

Why it matters: Building a budget PC is already a task right now, considering that only the RAM and storage can cost you a fortune, amid the AI boom, causing massive shortages and thus insane inflation.

Budget PCs might soon become a thing of the past

Research firm Gartner has revealed its in-depth market analysis, revealing that overall PC shipments will fall by 10.4% this year. Additionally, in the next two years, the budget segment will completely disappear.

The sub-$500 entry-level PC segment will disappear by 2028.

PC memory costs are expected to peak at 23% this year, up from 16% from 2025. This sharp increase will remove vendors’ ability to absorb costs, making low-entry-level hardware not a viable option for them.

Price Increase Memory DRAM DDR4 and DDR5 2026
Memory prices are expected to climb further this year

This does seem a bit off, considering the demand for budget PCs will never really go away. But in the context of the current circumstances, as the memory prices are still rising, this could eventually turn out to be true.

This suggests that gamers might have to make consoles their default choice if they have a budget of around $500, but this still might be a bit early, and maybe the circumstances take a turn for the better in the future.

GTA 6 Title IDs Appear on PlayStation Store, Suggesting Pre-Orders May Go Live Soon

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 title IDs have been added to the PlayStation store, hinting at pre-orders soon.
  • 2 title IDs imply different editions for the game.
  • Marketing for the game will kick off in summers which is the same time pre-orders are expected to go live.

After a wait of more than a decade and numerous delays, Rockstar has finally settled on a November release date for GTA 6. There’s still a lot covered about the game that we hope to learn soon.

The first detail is the game’s price. We may find out soon enough, as pre-orders for the game are set to go live, as Rockstar has just added title IDs for GTA 6 on the PlayStation store.

Why it matters: Finally, Rockstar has begun rolling out GTA 6 content across all platforms, which is reassuring to see, especially considering the 13-year wait.

As spotted by @GTAVI_Countdown on X, 2 new title IDs for GTA 6 have appeared on the PlayStation store: PPSA01547_00 – PPSA29660_00. This is a strong implication that the pre-orders for the game will go live soon.

The most interesting reveal would be the game’s price, since GTA 6 is widely expected to break the $80 price barrier, though that’s unlikely to happen soon.

Rockstar is expected to recoup the rumored $2 billion development cost through the game’s online mode and its projected 20 million sales in just 24 hours from launch.

GTA 6 Will Indeed Have Physical Copies At Launch Despite Earlier Rumors Suggesting Otherwise

As for there being 2 different title IDs, it is likely that they are assigned for different editions of the game.

That said, don’t expect an immediate update on GTA 6, as marketing for the game will begin in the summertime, and we still have a few months until then. Consider this work in advance from Rockstar’s end as they prepare for the launch of the biggest video game release of all time.

Next God of War Game Is an Action-RPG Subfranchise Releasing Next Year, Job Listing Reveals

Story Highlight
  • Job listing reveals that the next God of War game is a subfranchise releasing next year.
  • The game will be an action RPG directed by Cory Barlog, most likely set in Egypt as per previous leaks.
  • A new mainline God of War game is also in development, with Kratos expected to go back to the Greek world.

God of War fans have plenty to look forward to, as a spin-off Metroidvania prequel game was already shadowdropped last week, and beyond that, Santa Monica Studios is developing a remake of the first 3 games.

That won’t be all, as insiders suggest that a new God of War subfranchise is being introduced next year as an action RPG title.

Why it matters: The God of War franchise is rich with lore and many stories to explore. Therefore, it would be lovely to see Santa Monica Studios explore and capitalize on that element.

Details On Santa Monica Studios’ Next Game || ResetEra

According to the LinkedIn of one former senior writer at Santa Monica, they were working on a new franchise within the God of War universe. Even though their profile is no longer discoverable, a screenshot was captured and shared on ResetEra.

“Helped shape narrative vision and creative direction at Sony Santa Monica Studio for a new franchise within the God of War universe,”

This aligns well with previous claims from journalists like Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who stated that the next Santa Monica Studio title is being led by Cory Barlog (long-term God of War developer) and will be “not a new IP but it might feel like one.

Further adding to these reports, another insider, Ashhong, who has a strong track record for God of War leaks, stated that this next title will be an action RPG. Therefore, it is speculated to be similar to the newer Norse God of War games.

Santa Monica Reportedly Aims To Make God of War A Universe Akin To The MCU but Smaller in Scale

All signs point to a 2027 release for this spin-off game, which could very well be set in the long-rumored Egyptian region. A reveal is planned for the summer season of video game showcases, so we hope to learn more about the game soon, whether it will feature Kratos, Atreus, or an entirely new protagonist

As for Kratos’ next journey, the next mainline God of War game is set to revisit Greece and will release during the PlayStation 6 lifecycle.

Resident Evil Requiem Has The Best User Score On Metacritic In Franchise History

Story Highlight
  • Resident Evil Requiem holds a user score of 9.5, which is the best in the franchise.
  • It has beaten the original Resident Evil 4, which had a score of 9.1 on Metacritic.
  • Capcom has outdone itself with the title, developing a solid GOTY contender.

Resident Evil Requiem is off to a blinder. After becoming the highest-rated original game in the series in over 20 years, and charting on Steam sales, it is also getting a lot of love from the players, and has even set a record for that.

On Metacritic, Resident Evil Requiem now boasts the best user score ever in the franchise’s history. It currently stands with a score of 9.5, which is higher than all previous titles and even the likes of Resident Evil 4 and its remake.

Why it matters: It is amazing to see that even after so many years since the franchise first launched, Resident Evil is still mainstream and more popular than ever, showing how committed Capcom is.

Requiem Boasts the franchise’s highest-ever user score on Metacritic

Based on around 1300 reviews, Resident Evil Requiem has a user score of 9.5 on Metacritic, pushing it past Resident Evil 4 (2005), which previously held the record with a user score of 9.1.

Requiem is a great amalgamation of all previous successful Resident Evil Games. It borrows the action from Resident Evil 4, and horror from Biohazard and Village, and combines it with nostalgia to create a perfect title.

Not to mention, it is also one of the rare instances when a game has near-perfect optimization, which is rare in today’s industry. Nonetheless, Capcom has outdone itself with the 9th mainline installment in the series.

Resident Evil Requiem Achieves 90 FPS On Apple M4 Max Using CrossOver

Story Highlight
  • While not natively available for macOS, Resident Evil Requiem runs at roughly 90 FPS on M4 Max chips using Crossover 26.
  • High frame rates on Mac require FSR3 upscaling and AMD frame generation to overcome compatibility layers.
  • Mac users may still encounter lighting glitches and performance dips during cinematic scenes.

Resident Evil is widely regarded as the most well-known survival horror video game franchise, and Resident Evil Requiem was released in 2026 to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

This would be the ninth game in the franchise if we count Resident Evil Village (2021) as the eighth and Resident Evil 7 as the game that launched the series’ new era. The game was recently launched, and while it is not natively compatible with Apple devices, it is possible to play Resident Evil Requiem at high FPS thanks to the M4 Max CPU’s raw power.

Resident Evil Requiem Mac M4 Max

While there is no port for Apple PCs and laptops, you can play using Crossover, a compatibility layer that enables PC games to run on Macs. This layer is compatible with DirectX 12 games running Metal on macOS, including the latest Resident Evil.

One Reddit user swears it operates smoothly. They shared a screenshot of it getting over 90 FPS (88.34 FPS) right at the start of the game on the city streets. This is a much more difficult location than the closed, interior environments that come later; thus, the outcome is excellent. We can also see it operating at a resolution of 1800 x 1169 pixels, which is comparable to 1920 x 1080 Full HD.

Resident Evil Requiem RTX OFF vs ON DLSS 4 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series

The user stated that, while the gameplay has a high framerate and the frametime curve appears to be very constant, there are some notable performance drops during cutscenes as well as some lighting artifacts. This was all tested on a 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M4 Max processor and 36 GB of RAM (it only has 16 GB).

To run it, they utilized Crossover 26 Preview with Steam and set the visuals to high. This may surprise you, given that just a few months ago, a game like Diablo 2 could barely run at 40 FPS, but there’s a catch.

To hit 90 fps, it needed to use FSR3 upscaling in balanced mode, as well as AMD frame generation. So, without frame generation, you may anticipate 50-55 FPS in the same scene as FSR3, which isn’t awful, but bear in mind that this game is quite optimized (in comparison to others).

Resident Evil Requiem operates flawlessly on the Nintendo Switch 2, and even on a Steam Deck, you can achieve 60 FPS or higher, while it is recommended to set the limit to 40 FPS. As you can see, Apple is still far behind, as the M4 Max is significantly more powerful than these mobile consoles, but Crossover lets you do something that was not possible before: play Windows Steam games on a Mac.

Marathon Beta Gets Rated 3.04/5 On PSN, Lower Than Concord And Dustborn

Story Highlight
  • Bungie’s Marathon has failed to make the comeback Sony expected.
  • The game has been received poorly on PSN, sitting at only a 3.04 out of 5 rating.
  • Even Concord initially had a higher 3.5 PSN score, suggesting a darker future for Marathon ahead.

Bungie’s Marathon has faced a lot of ups and downs since its announcement and rework over the last year. While the game’s high pre-launch sales painted a bright picture for its future, the onslaught of negative PSN reviews is now suggesting the complete opposite.

The team launched an open beta for Marathon to stress-test its servers, but its reviews are at only 3.04 stars as of this writing. It is a lower rating than some of PlayStation’s worst offerings, including Concord’s 3.5 and Dustborn’s 3.84 score on the platform

Why it matters: Many players say Bungie has missed the mark with Marathon. The current rating on PSN shows that many users are simply unhappy with the game’s art direction and gameplay mechanics.

Marathon’s disappointing 3.04 rating reflects a bleak future.

The global PSN scores currently include over 13,119 ratings. While 40% of them are 5-star reviews, a concerning 38% of players have given the lowest rating instead.

The more troubling part for the studio is that most of these negative reviews don’t detail temporary technical server issues that can be fixed in the future. Many players are unhappy with its art direction and overall gameplay mechanics, which Bungie spent over a year fixing.

Some have called it an abysmal experience and a waste of download because of its art direction. Those who liked the color palette are unhappy with gameplay mechanics instead, so the overall player opinion is pretty divided.

Therefore, Bungie’s live-service offering may not have a long-term future for most of these players who are already growing tired. The game’s Steam player count has already plummeted by over 50% in just a single day.

Do you think the initial reception of Marathon Server Slam projects a grim future for the entry, or will it stabilize over time? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Marathon’s Player Count Plummets By More Than 50% In Just One Day On Steam

Story Highlight
  • Marathon has lost more than 50% of its Steam players in just one day, falling to 33k concurrent users on the platform after peaking with 76K the previous day.
  • The extraction shooter reached an all-time peak of 143K players during its server slam but has since continued to decline.
  • The Bungie title also failed to reach the concurrent player peak of Arc Raider’s open beta.

With only a few days remaining in its launch, Marathon’s open beta weekend is currently underway across all platforms. Despite the negativity surrounding the title last year, the Bungie extraction shooter has managed to turn a few heads, even reaching the top 10 of Steam’s best-sellers ranking.

However, even after a lot of improvement following the initial playtests in 2025, Marathon is still struggling to maintain a healthy player count during the server slam weekend and has lost half of its players since yesterday.

Why it matters: Marathon needed a big push from its server slam to undo all the pre-launch negativity, but that doesn’t seem to be the case from the Steam numbers.

Marathon Steam
Source: SteamDB

Marathon currently has 33K concurrent players on Steam, more than 50% lower than its 76K player count one day ago. The Bungie extraction shooter peaked at 143K concurrent users during the server slam three days ago, but has failed to retain players following the initial rush.

Furthermore, Marathon lost 47.5% of its player count on the second day and has been on a constant decline since then. The game has also failed to get close to Arc Raiders’ open beta peak, which reached almost 190k users during that period.

The reason for Marathon’s decline could also be that progress from the server slam does not carry over into the full release, meaning there is no incentive to keep playing. However, these numbers aren’t a major positive ahead of the Bungie title’s launch on March 5.

Marathon Bungie
Players have criticized Marathon’s UI for being inconsistent.

Even though reviews haven’t been as bad as Concord, like many predicted, players have criticized Marathon’s UI, calling it obstructive and hard to decipher.

Do you think Marathon will be able to give Arc Raiders some competition, or will the game fall flat after release? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

Next-Gen Xbox Is Already Dead As It Embraces Game Pass, Says Analyst

Story Highlight
  • Analyst claims that the upcoming Xbox is already dead because of its Game Pass model.
  • The service takes away the value of the consoles, leading to faltering sales.
  • Pachter says Game Pass should cost just $10 if it is to be fully embraced for the console.

Xbox recently had a huge leadership shake-up, which saw Asha Sharma taking the role as the head of Microsoft’s gaming division. Notably, the new head has shown a lot of commitment to next-gen hardware despite weak console sales.

A tech analyst claims that the next-gen Xbox is already dead even before launch, as it’ll still embrace the Game Pass model. By pushing too hard for the subscription service, Microsoft has compromised the value of its hardware.

Why it matters: Because all Xbox games are now multiplatform, and Game Pass is also available on PC, there is no major selling point for Xbox consoles.

Xbox Hybrid PC-console Design
Analyst says the next Xbox is dead on arrival due to Game Pass

Wedbush Securities Strategic Advisor Michael Pachter, in an interview with GamesBeat, talked about what comes next for Xbox. He declared the next-gen console is already dead due to its Game Pass-centric model.

I think the console is dead. I think they’ve already blown it with the console by embracing Game Pass.

Pachter says Microsoft has gotten it all wrong. Game Pass at $30 doesn’t give players a good reason to get an Xbox console. Instead, the price should be just $10, which would make more sense to the players.

Xbox Game Pass
Xbox Game Pass isn’t the same good value as it used to be

Game Pass, especially after its recent price hikes, isn’t considered too much of a great value anymore, so Pacther does have a point. However, rumors point to the next-gen Xbox will feature multiple storefronts.

So, if that turns out to be true, this changes the whole scenario. In theory, a console that runs Steam, Epic Games Store, and a whole suite of Xbox library, seems like a great idea if executed and priced well.

AI Anti-Cheat is Finally Winning in 2026

Story Highlights
  • AI anti-cheat in 2026 has shifted from just detection software to scanning real-time player behavior.
  • Systems are being trained on massive gameplay data to detect statistical anomalies and bot assists.
  • False positives have dropped as systems evaluate patterns across the span of the whole match rather than single point in time.
  • Cheat developers are also using AI based systems, but anti-cheat is evolving at a faster rate.

Competitive shooter games have always been plagued by cheating systems called aimbots. These have evolved from simple recoil scripts to sophisticated automated tools capable of near-precise opponent tracking.

This meant insane headshots from far away, one shot, and that’s it your out. Every time developers closed one loophole, another one opened, leading to a whole set of new issues.

Traditional anti-cheat systems relied on signature detection and rule-based triggers. They could easily catch known hacks but seemed to struggle with constantly updated or hardware-assisted cheat mechanisms. This left players wondering, thinking whether that perfect shot was skill or software at play.

The Breakthrough by AI

The turning point came when game studios shifted from scanning software to analyzing behavior. Instead of just scanning files, modern anti-cheat systems study how players move, aim and react in real-time. Each move made by the player is carefully monitored and analyzed by the system to determine if any cheats, such as aim bot was used.

In 2026, the neural networks trained on massive datasets of legitimate gameplay can interpret human imperfection with great accuracy. When it comes to humans, they hesitate, overcorrect, and make inefficient movements under pressure.

Even the most seasoned players sometimes make mistakes and display natural inconsistency. Aim bots, on the other hand, try to mimic this human imperfection, yet at the end of the day, reveal patterns that are too statistically clean for humans.

Today’s AI cheat detection systems, on the other hand, do not rely on a single suspicious moment or move made by the player. They evaluate the overall match and pinpoint patterns, building confidence over time, even games such as Black Ops 7 now require TPM and Secure boot. This reduces the chance of the system mistakenly assuming a good shot for a cheat, whilst also making it far harder for AI tools to blend in.

Why This Year Feels Different

Behavior-based detection existed before, but it lacked refinement. Players who were insanely good at the game were often flagged, and aside from this, cheat developers adapted to these systems quickly.

In 2026, however, models are faster, more contextual, and constantly being retrained. This is being done so that the use of cheat mechanisms is strictly prohibited.

Instead of just reacting to known exploitation of rules, new AI-based detection systems anticipate anomalies. When new cheats or evasion tactics appear, the system adapts quickly. In this way, the advantage has shifted from static rule books to dynamic detection. For players, this difference has been noticeable.

Rising up the ranks isn’t as easy anymore, and the system can distinguish between skill and cheating. Cheaters are removed faster, and high-profile game bans are supported by evidence.

Better Detection Equals Better Cheats

Despite the efforts of game developers, cheat creators are responding with AI-assisted tools that mimic human variability. Some of these cheat bots exhibit artificial hesitation, purposeful bad shots, and strategies to try to limit detection. The battle between cheat creators and AI detection systems has moved into an era where both sides are using machine learning tools.

Transparency issues have also surfaced. When game bans rely on algorithmic confidence, players expect some sort of appeal system. The degree of fairness in these cheat accusations may sometimes be subpar, as sometimes even game stutter is mistaken for foul play.

Pro players often get accused of unfair play; however, in their defense, they are just good due to endless hours of practice.  Studios must learn how to protect detection methods while maintaining player trust.

The Cultural Shift

For many years, the competitive gaming industry has been surrounded by a cloud of suspicion. Social media was filled with accusations, and streamers constantly questioned whether opponents were legitimate or not. High-skilled player performances were often seen with doubtful eyes as players assumed that their opponent was just too good to be true

As AI-based detection systems improve, players have had much more confidence in the competitive gaming scene. The overall atmosphere of online competitive shooter games such as COD 6 has begun to shift in a positive direction. Casual players these days feel more confident in engaging in ranked game modes and believe that online matches genuinely reflect true player skill.
