"I Really Hope It's $100"

Story Highlight
  • The former Saints Row designer argues GTA 6 can justify a $100 MSRP.
  • He says that the game should cost $100 since every game is not created equal.
  • This statement has drawn mixed reactions, with many being against the idea of a $100 launch price.

Rockstar is rapidly approaching the 2026 release date for GTA 6, raising concerns about the game’s price tag. While many have argued that a price higher than $70 would harm the game, the actual MSRP is still anybody’s guess.

Chiming in on the discussion, a former Saints Row developer recently noted that GTA 6 would be the only game to justify a $100 price tag.

Why it matters: The AAA industry has already seen two major shifts, with Nintendo upping prices to $80 very recently. Therefore, fans are not too interested in seeing prices go up again.

GTA 6 Is Just A Few Months Away At This Point

When asked whether the gaming industry would see another price hike with GTA 6, Chris Stockman, who designed the original Saints Row, noted that Rockstar could certainly pull it off.

He commented that games are not created equal, and Rockstar would be the only one to get away with such a price tag. Later, he even stated that GTA 6 deserves to be $100 when it arrives next year.

Interestingly, Stockman further noted that the industry following suit with a potential $100 pricing standard would be an eventual disaster.

I think GTA is the only one that can get away with it. I hope it’s $100. I think it deserves to be $100.

This particular statement has also drawn interesting reactions on social media. Many fans and developers argue that no game can justify an asking price as high as $100.

The GTA 6 Pricing Debate Has Everyone On The Edge of Their Seats

On the other hand, some even believe that Rockstar is secretly attempting to spread fear within gamers before eventually settling on the typical $70 pricing for positive press at release.

Nonetheless, GTA 6 is guaranteed to perform well at release. Even if it debuts at $100, the game will break more than a few records at release.

What do you make of the Saints Row developer’s opinion? Do you think the game would justify a $100 MSRP? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.
