Pragmata On Nintendo Switch 2 Beats Xbox Series S Port In Every Department, Reveals Analyst

Story Highlight
  • Pragmata on the Nintendo Switch 2 looks even better than the Xbox Series S Version.
  • The game has better image quality, asset detail, resolution, and lighting on the hybrid.
  • The Series S only edges out the console in performance, but the shaky frame rate on Switch 2 can be fixed easily.

Ever since its release, Nintendo Switch 2 has given a second wind to many AAA releases. Despite its small size, many big-budget titles like Star Wars: Outlaws and Cyberpunk 2077 run brilliantly on the console, and publishers are now releasing games on the platform day-and-date alongside other hardware.

Capcom is one of the companies that has started optimising titles for the Nintendo Switch 2 during development, with Resident Evil Requiem being an example of this new direction. Now, the Japanese giant’s new game, Pragmata, runs so well on the console that it is beating out the Xbox Series S version.

Why it matters: AAA titles being more than just playable on the Switch 2 has opened up a new door of opportunity for studios around the world.

In a new video, Digital Foundry revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Pragmata is beating out the Xbox Series S port in almost every department. While the action title initially seems visually similar on both consoles, the analyst reveals that the Series S has many prominent downgrades.

Shadows appear noisier and more obscure on the Xbox console than on the Switch 2, which cleans them up much better. Asset textures also favor the Nintendo hybrid, which contains more detail than the Series S, even though both consoles saw an asset downgrade compared to the PS5.

In addition, the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Pragmata manages to beat out the low-end Xbox in image quality. The Switch 2 is much better at resolving the image, while the low 720p internal resolution of the Series S downgrades the quality and struggles to produce a clean look at the edges.

Asset detail and image quality in Pragmata look much better on the Switch 2 than on the Series X.

However, the Xbox console does manage to get the upper hand in one sector, and that is performance. Pragmata runs at a stable 60 FPS on the Series S, while the frame rate is shaky on the Nintendo Switch 2, wobbling between 30 and 60FPS. But, Digital Foundry states this is easily fixable with an update targeting 30FPS.

Story Highlight
  • Assassin’s Creed Black Flag has been confirmed for a July 9 launch this year.
  • The official reveal was planned for today, but has now been pushed to next week.
  • Ubisoft has confirmed it’s a character-driven solo adventure, and not an RPG.

The Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake is among the most rumored games in recent years. Its existence was officially confirmed just a little while ago, and while it was initially planned to be released in Q1 2026, it was delayed.

Some rumors pointed out that the game could even slip to 2027, but now it is reported that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will release on July 9, 2026. The official announcement was planned for today, but has been pushed to next week.

Why it matters: Black Flag is often considered the finest Assassin’s Creed game of all time, and with recent entries failing to impress, fans have quite high hopes for the project, especially since it’s a classic title.

Black Flag release
Black Flag Resynced gets a Jul 9, 2026, release

Tom Henderson has revealed that Ubisoft has sent a 30-minute presentation to creators and media on Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. And people who were worried that it’s being turned into an RPG, there’s some good news.

Unlike previous rumors, the presentation confirms that the title won’t have RPG elements; instead, it is a “solo adventure and character-driven experience“. This is really exciting, as it makes it a reincarnation of the original.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag
The Remake is now closer than ever to release

Ubisoft also doesn’t have to do too much. A graphical overhaul and slightly polished mechanics will be fine, similar to what Capcom did with Resident Evil 4. Anyhow, Black Flag Resynced is now closer than ever.

Xbox Insider Points To First-Party Only Game Pass Tier

Story Highlight
  • A prominent insider has backed up reports of Xbox considering a Game Pass tier dedicated to just first-party titles.
  • Reports also suggest future Call of Duty titles may not be added to the subscription.
  • These changes are part of a broader ongoing shift within Xbox.

With the arrival of CEO Asha Sharma, the Xbox brand is set to undergo major changes soon. Among these, recent chatter has pointed to the gaming giant discussing the status of exclusivity and Game Pass.

In the latter’s case, Asha Sharma recently admitted that the service needed to become more consumer-friendly. According to an insider, Xbox is now considering a first-party-only tier for the service.

Why it matters: Xbox raised the monthly price of Game Pass Ultimate to $30/month, making its day-one promise inaccessible to a large portion of the existing customer base that refused to pay the new cost.

The New Xbox CEO Is Planning Huge Changes

As reported by Tom Warren, Xbox is indeed rethinking its tiers for Game Pass. According to the insider, there is a possibility Microsoft will introduce a completely new tier comprising just first-party titles.

This report backs up a previous datamine, which suggests this tier was already being worked on. Therefore, this plan would include the likes of Gears of War: E-Day, Halo Campaign Evolved, Forza Horizon 6, and more.

The report also backs up recent discussions regarding Xbox potentially getting rid of Call of Duty from the service. However, it is said that Xbox is weighing the option of not adding future Call of Duty titles to the service as opposed to removing any games already available to players.

Ultimately, these changes are part of a wider shift within the division. The gaming giant is currently looking to make deeper investments into the platform, ones that improve its value and appeal to mainstream audiences.

Game Pass Could See A Slew of New Subscribers With A More Affordable Plan

With Microsoft also preparing for Xbox Project Helix, expected to launch in 2027, any changes to Game Pass and the overall brand will likely serve to attract players toward the upcoming hardware.

How successful these plans will be remains to be seen, but Microsoft’s rumored initiatives seem to have plenty of potential for now.

  • The game promises to push the series’ storytelling and gameplay to a new level with the darkest narrative of the franchise to date.
  • This first-person shooter is also set to feature a voiced protagonist for the first time in the franchise.

Following several years of anticipation and multiple discussions recently, the sequel to Metro Exodus has officially made its debut. Dubbed Metro 2039, 4A Games’ latest entry in the popular series promises an even darker tone and more engaging gameplay experience.

As part of its worldwide reveal, the game has also received a lengthy trailer, and it already looks incredible in many ways.

Why it matters: Metro Exodus was incredibly well-received, leading to millions anticipating the next entry in the IP.

Building on the success of Metro Exodus, the upcoming entry takes players back to a post-apocalyptic Moscow overrun by a fascist regime.

The game is described as a return to form for the franchise, focusing on the tunnels and dark nature of the IP. Metro 2039 is also set to introduce the series’ first voiced protagonist as part of its narrative ambitions.

Between exploration, bone-chilling horror, and clever crafting mechanics, fans can expect to see all the hallmarks of the Metro series in this entry. Moreover, it is described as the darkest production from 4A Games to date.

PlayStation’s Live-Service Fairgames Reportedly Transitions To Extraction Shooter Genre

Story Highlight
  • .A new report states that PlayStation is going all in on Haven Studios’ Fairgames.
  • The title is said to focus on heist-based extraction shooter and free-to-play gameplay.
  • A new playtest will also go live later this week as PlayStation seeks to refine the project further.

PlayStation announced Fairgames all the way back in 2023 as part of its major live-service push. However, following Concord’s disastrous release, the gaming giant has been forced to reevaluate the future of its live-service projects, leaving Fairgames in a challenging position.

Recent reports revealed that the game’s development was facing several hurdles, and the latest word on the matter suggests a major shift in priority from developer Haven Studios. It is said that Fairgames is targeting the extraction shooter genre.

Why it matters: PlayStation has been unusually quiet about this live-service project, leading to all sorts of speculations and theories.

PlayStation Dipped Its Toes Into Extraction Shooters With Marathon

As reported by Insider Gaming, Fairgames is set to go through another playtest this week as PlayStation continues to invest in the project.

At the time of its reveal in 2023, PlayStation never shared much detail regarding Fairgames in 2023, vaguely describing it as a heist experience. The report outlines that the mode ‘Cargo Heist’ focuses on breaking into a vault, grabbing cargo, and then extracting with said cargo.

Effectively, this is Haven Studios’ take on an extraction shooter. If this sounds familiar, the extraction shooter setup here appears somewhat reminiscent of Bungie’s Marathon.

Although Haven Studios may have always planned to target the extraction shooter market with Fairgames, it is possible that Bungie’s recent work on Marathon left an impression on the team.

The big difference here is that Haven Studios plans to launch the game as a free-to-play title.

Fairgames
Fairgames’ Debut Trailer Was Far From Impressive

Perhaps the most interesting part of Fairgames ‘ pursuit of the extraction shooter market is the fact that Bungie’s Marathon has not been the biggest success so far. With Haven Studios’ upcoming title not having the benefit of Bungie’s prestige and reputation, it might have an even harder time on the market.

Nonetheless, PlayStation seems to have gone all in on the project following multiple cancellations over the last few years.

PlayStation 6 to Be Backward Compatible With PS4 and PS5, Claims Leaker

Story Highlight
  • Sony’s next-gen console isn’t too far away, and the rumors and reports have started.
  • A leaker says that the PlayStation 6 will be backward compatible with PS4 and PS5.
  • Even the handheld is expected to feature a similar compatibility with older consoles.

As we move closer to the inevitable next console generation, more leaks have started pouring in. Specifically, the PS6 will remain the only traditional home console, as Xbox has taken a completely different approach with the hybrid console.

A new rumor claims that PlayStation 6 will be backward compatible with both the PS5 and the PS4. This will make the next-gen PlayStation the first-ever Sony console to feature backward compatibility with two previous generations.

Why it matters: PS5 was the first-ever Sony console that introduced backward compatibility, and it’s good to see the next generation will build on it by enhancing the capabilities further.

Moore’s Law is Dead in their latest video revealed that PlayStation 6 will offer extensive backward compatibility with the previous-gen consoles. Furthermore, even the handheld will feature similar compatibility.

The PS6, yes, it has backwards compatibility to four and five. And even the handheld, they explicitly say, runs PS4 and PS5 games.

Sony PS6 Concept
PS6 could feature backward compatibility with PS4 and PS5

Playing PS5 or even PS4 games on the fly on a PS6 handheld will be very interesting. This also means that your old library of physical games will also be relevant even if you get the latest console, which will delight a lot of fans.

Nonetheless, this is a rumor for now, but this will likely be true, as Sony already made the PS5 backward compatible with the PS4. What’s more exciting is that even the handheld might be able to do the same thing.

Why Mobile Gaming Beyond Google Play Requires Responsibility

Story Highlight
  • Google Play Store unlocks access to thousands of applications, but it can prove limiting in some instances.
  • Relying on APKs can bypass regional restrictions and Google’s strict policies.
  • This method also comes with inherent risks, requiring careful navigation and downloading.

Mobile games, despite their somewhat shaky reputation, represent a huge part of the overall industry today. Whether it be on Android or iOS, gamers on mobile devices have more choice than ever before, and things are expected to only get better from here.

However, it’s no secret that the official app stores, including Google Play, can sometimes be far too limiting for gamers. This is exactly why alternative sources have become so popular.

Why it matters: Gaming on mobile is convenient and easy for a large number of players.

Why People Are Moving Away From Google Play

Dragon Ball Legends
Games Like Dragon Ball Legends Are Not Available In All Regions On Google Play

The biggest strength of the official store comes from the fact that it is managed by Google itself. This service offers secure apps that are certified by Google itself, but this also means developers must operate under strict guidelines when working with Google.

Because of these limitations, apps can sometimes face regional restrictions, censorship, and more. Updates can also be problematic, not to mention the fact that there’s no telling when an app may be banned by Google. This is why alternative sources are becoming so popular.

The Popularity of Alternative Sources

Android’s freedom is perhaps its biggest strength, and this is reflected best in the availability of APKs.

When a game or an application is not available in a specific region or removed from the Google Play Store, it can still be preserved through APKs. A well-maintained Android app source, therefore, can provide access to applications that Google may not have. However, it’s important to understand the world of APKs before jumping in.

Security Trade-offs

Google play Store featured
Google Play Store Is Safe And Reliable

As mentioned earlier, the Google ecosystem comes with an inherent security that is left behind once APKs are involved. Google’s verification system weeds out most dangerous applications, but when dealing with APKs, it’s important to watch out for malicious software

Depending on the application, there could be hidden code buried behind an otherwise official-looking software. Moreover, illegitimate APKs could even steal personal data. Of course, this doesn’t mean every APK is dangerous, but taking precautionary measures is the best option when downloading software outside of the official Google Play Store.

A Good vs Bad Source

The good news is that the best APK sources typically take measures to ensure their users are protected from the worst things out there. Many sites verify APK integrity and ensure updated versions are available for users. Moreover, they delete any software that is found to be suspicious in nature.

On the other hand, poor sites forego these measures altogether and accept practically anything submitted to them. Ultimately, the prospect of an open ecosystem makes APKs quite appealing for those looking to branch out.

This option comes with inherent risks since Google isn’t liable for any damage that may occur when dealing with third-party sources, but the freedom of these sources is worth it to some.

Dealing with APKs also requires a basic understanding of software and how to dodge malicious files on the internet. With enough precautions, this open ecosystem can truly unlock new possibilities for gaming and other activities on Android phones.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Will Set New Standards In The RPG Genre Like Clair Obscur And Crimson Desert, Director Says

Story Highlight
  • The Blood of Dawnwalker director confirms that it is pushing the boundaries of AAA RPGs.
  • The project will set new standards in the genre like Clаir Obscur and Crimson Desert.
  • It aims to be an unknown experience for RPG veterans.

The Blood of Dawnwalker has undoubtedly drawn comparisons to The Witcher 3, and studio Rebel Wolves is confident enough to embrace them. However, many RPG veterans have been afraid that the smaller-scale title from ex-Witcher devs would feel too similar in contrast.

Game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz was quick to shut down these concerns. He clarifies that The Blood of Dawnwalker is aiming to be an outlier in the RPG genre, like Crimson Desert and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. So, it’ll be a wholly new and unknown experience for us.

Why it matters: The Blood of Dawnwalker will feel entirely new among RPG games like Crimson Desert, confirming that Rebel Wolves is taking risks instead of doubling down on tried-and-true methods to generate profits.

The Blood of Dawnwalker
The Blood of Dawnwalker will push the boundaries of AAA RPGs.

Speaking to The Game Business, Konrad says that Rebel Wolves is pushing the RPG’s limit by ‘adding some risky stuff.’ He admits that the idea of testing uncharted waters has begun to take hold in the industry following the success of Clair Obscur and Crimson Desert.

When you look at Clair Obscur, or Crimson Desert right now, those games are different. They are not a copy of other triple-A games, but delivering something quite fresh.

-Rebel Wolves Founder & CEO, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz.

Konrad believes that you cannot ‘create art’ by copying established industry formulas. Experimentation and testing new frontiers is now more important than ever to create an experience that speaks to gamers and developers alike.

Therefore, he wants players to enjoy the sensation of diving into an unknown adventure, like something we already saw in Crimson Desert. However, it will still carry the same quality as The Witcher 3 despite having a protagonist with innovative features

The Blood of Dawnwalker
The Blood of Dawnwalker is a stylized gothic fantasy based around vampires.

On a side note, a sequel for the RPG is already being planned if the first game succeeds, which is already showing signs of doing so.

The “Sweaty” Meta: Has Esports Culture Ruined Casual WoW PvP?

Story Highlight
  • PvP in World of Warcraft has become overly competitive.
  • The influence of esports has removed the “middle ground” of gameplay, forcing players to either remain in low-level chaos or commit fully to a rigorous, optimized meta.
  • Finding teammates is hindered by an outdated manual system that demands high stats and perfection.

There was a time when jumping into PvP in World of Warcraft felt like a break from the “real” game. You’d queue up with random gear, maybe a friend or two, and just see what happened.

Some matches were messy, some were hilarious, and most didn’t matter. That was the charm. Now? It feels like you’re signing up for a tournament every time you hit queue.

Modern WoW PvP, especially Arena, has shifted hard into a performance-driven space. It’s no longer about figuring things out as you go. It’s about already knowing everything before you even step in.

Players track cooldowns down to the second. They react instantly to enemy setups. They run optimized comps that are proven to work. If you’re not doing the same, you’re basically playing a different game.

That’s where the “sweaty” label comes from. It’s not just about trying hard. It’s about how much preparation and precision is expected just to stay afloat.

The Addon Problem Nobody Talks About

Let’s be honest. The default UI doesn’t cut it anymore. If you watch high-rated Arena gameplay today, the screen is filled with timers, alerts, icons, and audio cues.

It looks less like an RPG and more like a control panel. Addons track everything for you, but they also raise the baseline. If everyone else is using them, you kind of have to as well.

For casual players, this creates a weird barrier. You’re not just learning your class. You’re learning an entire system layered on top of the game. And if you don’t? You fall behind fast.

LFG Is Still the Real Final Boss

World of Warcraft

Even if you somehow get comfortable with the gameplay, there’s another wall waiting: finding people to play with.

Unlike games that handle matchmaking for you, WoW still leans heavily on manual group building. And the LFG system hasn’t exactly aged well. It’s full of rating checks, achievement requirements, and players who expect near-perfect performance from strangers.

One bad match and the group falls apart. No feedback, no retry, just back to searching.

For someone with limited time, that’s exhausting. You can spend more time looking for a team than actually playing the game.

Rewards That Make You Care (Maybe Too Much)

Gold in World of Warcraft
Gold in World of Warcraft.

If PvP feels this stressful, why do people keep trying? Because the rewards are still some of the best in the game.

Gladiator mounts, Elite sets, Vicious Saddles. These aren’t just cosmetics. They’re status symbols. And the catch is, they’re tied to performance and locked behind seasons. Miss your chance, and they’re gone for good.

That creates a kind of pressure that didn’t exist back in the day. You’re not just playing for fun. You’re playing so you don’t miss out.

When the gap between effort and reward gets too wide, people look for alternatives. Not everyone has the time or patience to grind rating, deal with LFG, and keep up with the meta.

That’s why wow arena boost services have become more common. For some players, it’s less about “cheating the system” and more about skipping the parts they don’t enjoy. They still want the mounts, the gear, the achievements. They just don’t want the grind that comes with them.

You can argue whether that’s good or bad, but it does say something about the current state of PvP.

Has Esports Culture Actually Ruined It?

“Ruined” might be a bit dramatic, but it’s definitely changed things.

Esports didn’t kill PvP. It just raised the ceiling so high that the floor came up with it. What used to be casual is now competitive by default. And once a community leans into optimization, there’s no easy way back.

Blizzard has tried to meet players halfway. Solo Shuffle was meant to reduce the reliance on premade teams. It helps, but it brings its own issues like long queues and uneven match quality.

So the problem isn’t solved. It’s just shifted. If you’re a casual player today, PvP can still be fun.

But it’s a different kind of fun. You either accept the chaos at lower ratings, or you commit to learning the systems and pushing higher.

What’s mostly gone is that middle ground. The space where you could log in, play a few games, and feel competitive without overthinking everything.

That version of WoW PvP? It’s mostly a memory now. And maybe that’s the real answer. Esports didn’t ruin casual PvP. It just made it grow up.

Phantom Blade Zero To Feature An Honor System That Affects The Storyline Similar to RDR2

Story Highlight
  • Phantom Blade Zero will feature an honor system similar to that of Red Dead 2.
  • If you are honorable and help those in need, it will have a macroscopic impact.
  • This adds another layer to the gameplay, making the title even more interesting.

Phantom Blade Zero is turning into a very interesting prospect. Players were hyped ever since we saw its first gameplay a couple of years ago. Now that the release is drawing near, we are discovering even more interesting gameplay aspects of the title.

In a recent interview, the creator of Phantom Blade discussed the game’s honor system. It will influence the main storyline, and the consequences will change accordingly. This is very similar to what Rockstar did with Red Dead Redemption 2.

Why it matters: This adds another interesting layer to the gameplay, as players get to decide their character’s fate based on honor. It even gives the game good replayability, allowing players to find different outcomes.

Phantom Blade Honor
Phantom Blade will feature an honor system similar to RDR2 (from 4.43)

Soulframe Liang, CEO of S-Game and creator of Phantom Blade, discussed the game’s Wuxia elements. Xia embodies the character when they are down and out, and decide whether to help others

It will influence (the story). You will find that as long as you act with a code of honor, it will have a bigger, macroscopic impact.

– Soulframe Liang

The title is one of the most anticipated games of the year.

This led to discussions about the honor system, and Liang explained that when you help others, your honor rises and affects your own story of love and vengeance. Your actions will have a huge effect on the game’s outcome.

This will undoubtedly make the title even more fun on top of an already wonderful-looking gameplay. Phantom Blade Zero is set to release in September and could be a breakout title for the studio, and in hindsight, it is looking that way.

Forza Horizon 6 Could Turn Out To Be The Biggest Game Of This Quarter Due To Immense Fan Hype

Story Highlight
  • Forza Horizon 6 could be the biggest success of the April-June period, according to social media data.
  • The game is among the top 500 most searched items on Google and YouTube.
  • Furthermore, the racing simulator is tracking a lot higher than other titles releasing in Q2, like 007: First Light.

To the surprise of some, Forza Horizon 5 has turned out to be the best-performing first-party title from Xbox this generation. The game’s port on the PS5 has been an overwhelming success for Microsoft, selling 5 million copies and generating over $100 million in revenue.

Unsurprisingly, a sequel to the game is in development and is set to launch in May 2026 for PC and Xbox Series consoles, with a port for the PS5 releasing later this year. If fan hype is any indication, the sequel might turn out to be an even bigger success for Xbox and Microsoft.

Why it matters: The Forza Horizon series has been a bright spark in an otherwise dark generation for Xbox, and it looks like that will continue.

Forza Horizon 6
The game is tracking higher than any other Q2 title in media impressions| Source: Patch Notes Gaming

According to analyst Colan Neese, data points to Forza Horizon 6 turning out to be the biggest release of 2026 Q2. Fan hype for the racing simulator is through the roof, as it ranks in the top 500 across both Google and YouTube searches with over 300,000 queries every week.

On the other hand, Forza Horizon 6 has been a massive success on TikTok, generating 400 million views from over 20k videos despite being 7 weeks away from launching. Other May releases like 007 First Light have only amassed 70 million views on the platform, highlighting the huge gap in fan hype between the titles.

Hence, it looks like Forza Horizon 6 will be the biggest sales success from April to June, at least according to the data. Colan Neese also revealed another interesting tidbit, saying that the sequel is still tracking 15% below Forza Horizon 5 in these statistics in the same period pre-release.

Forza Horizon 6
Forza Horizon 6 will be the franchise’s biggest open-world map.

However, this could be because the 2021 title came out during a time when the impact of COVID was still apparent, and many people were still home. Furthermore, considering how Forza Horizon 5 was the biggest racing game launch in the last decade, being 15% behind it isn’t too bad.

After The Absymal PS5 Port Starfield Could Be Coming To Nintendo Switch 2

Story Highlight
  • On the Taiwanese rating board, an entry for the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Starfield has been discovered.
  • No release date is mentioned on the database entry, but the RPG is now confirmed for the console.
  • Bethesda’s 2023 title has had a difficult time running on the PS5, with frequent crashes plaguing it.

Years after its initial release on PC and Xbox Series X|S, Starfield finally launched on the PS5 this month. However, the port has been less than ideal so far, suffering from game-breaking technical issues that crash the RPG in under 10 minutes.

Starfield has also failed on the sales front on PS5, selling just 140k copies despite having a strong pre-order presence on the charts. This horrible launch on the platform hasn’t stopped Bethesda, however, as the studio is already preparing to port the RPG to another console.

Why it matters: Starfield has turned out to be so badly optimised on the PS5 that players are refunding the game, so one can only assume the RPG will be an even bigger car crash on the Switch 2.

In the database of the Taiwan Entertainment Software Rating Board, a listing for the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Starfield has been discovered. The rating doesn’t include any information regarding the RPG’s launch on the platform, but assures that it is coming to the console.

Speculation regarding a Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Starfield has been going on for a while now. Insiders previously claimed that the title was heading to the platform in 2026, but others weren’t even sure the RPG would be playable on the Switch 2.

Credible leakers reported that Starfield was having problems running on the Nintendo Switch 2 and that the development process for the port wasn’t smooth at all. Some even claimed that the port might get canned due to issues during production.

Starfield
Starfield has been suffering from severe technical issues on PS5.

However, from the looks of it, Starfield is set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 sooner rather than later. If the game’s frequent crashing on the PS5 is any indication, the RPG might not be the best time on the console.

Do you think a Switch 2 port for Starfield is a good idea, or should Bethesda take some time to polish it, considering all the problems in the PS5 edition? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.
