  • Everything in the title, from paintings, visuals, character models, and maps, has been crafted by human hands.
  • The studio believes human artistry is the most valuable thing, and as the game nears completion, it’s proud of the developers who have worked on it.

After years of hype following its 2024 reveal, Phantom Blade Zero is finally set to launch this year. The title has been wishlisted over 1 million times, while its trailer at The Game Awards was one of the most viewed of the night, showcasing fan anticipation.

Director Soulframe Liang has further intensified the excitement for Phantom Blade Zero by saying that the title doesn’t fit any current action gaming genre. Now, the developer has amassed even more good grace for the upcoming game by revealing that it doesn’t use any form of generative AI.

Why it matters: Considering how Crimson Desert was criticised for using AI-generated paintings, getting ahead of the narrative is the right move from S-Game.

In an X post, developer S-Game revealed that Phantom Blade Zero didn’t use any kind of generative AI during development. The statement assured fans that all content in the action title has been crafted by human hands and maintains its original intent.

S-Game is aware of the AI technological revolution, but it isn’t interested in altering the state of Phantom Blade Zero by using AI Visual tech or something similar. The studio scanned its own cast for 3D models while hiring real actors for voice lines, unlike some games such as Arc Raiders.

Furthermore, Phantom Blade Zero developers practically used weapons before putting them in the game, examined real martial artists, and went to different places in China to scan them. The post also clarified that there are no AI-generated maps or paintings in the title and everything has been hand-drawn.

S-Game believes that human artistry is the most valuable thing itself, and the studio is very proud of Phantom Blade Zero, which is nearing completion and is in the final stages of development.
