- The Blood of Dawnwalker director confirms that it is pushing the boundaries of AAA RPGs.
- The project will set new standards in the genre like Clаir Obscur and Crimson Desert.
- It aims to be an unknown experience for RPG veterans.
The Blood of Dawnwalker has undoubtedly drawn comparisons to The Witcher 3, and studio Rebel Wolves is confident enough to embrace them. However, many RPG veterans have been afraid that the smaller-scale title from ex-Witcher devs would feel too similar in contrast.
Game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz was quick to shut down these concerns. He clarifies that The Blood of Dawnwalker is aiming to be an outlier in the RPG genre, like Crimson Desert and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. So, it’ll be a wholly new and unknown experience for us.
Why it matters: The Blood of Dawnwalker will feel entirely new among RPG games like Crimson Desert, confirming that Rebel Wolves is taking risks instead of doubling down on tried-and-true methods to generate profits.

Speaking to The Game Business, Konrad says that Rebel Wolves is pushing the RPG’s limit by ‘adding some risky stuff.’ He admits that the idea of testing uncharted waters has begun to take hold in the industry following the success of Clair Obscur and Crimson Desert.
When you look at Clair Obscur, or Crimson Desert right now, those games are different. They are not a copy of other triple-A games, but delivering something quite fresh.

Konrad believes that you cannot ‘create art’ by copying established industry formulas. Experimentation and testing new frontiers is now more important than ever to create an experience that speaks to gamers and developers alike.
Therefore, he wants players to enjoy the sensation of diving into an unknown adventure, like something we already saw in Crimson Desert. However, it will still carry the same quality as The Witcher 3 despite having a protagonist with innovative features.

On a side note, a sequel for the RPG is already being planned if the first game succeeds, which is already showing signs of doing so.
