Final Fantasy 16 Xbox Release Announcement Imminent, Claims Insider

Story Highlight
  • Lunatic Ignus suggests Final Fantasy 16 may be revealed for Xbox at the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct event.
  • The game’s producer previously stated interest in releasing the game on Xbox, aligning with the publisher’s strategy of multi-platform releases.
  • Considering the PC release’s lower sales, the potential success of an Xbox version is up for debate.

The long-awaited arrival of Final Fantasy 16 on Xbox may finally be just around the corner, according to a recent claim by insider Lunatic Ignus. Ignus suggests the game could be revealed as one of the surprise announcements at the Xbox Developer Direct on January 23, 2025.

Why it matters: Square Enix already confirmed plans to release the Final Fantasy franchise on Xbox so this rumor makes a lot of sense.

Final Fantasy 16 Xbox Developers Direct
Final Fantasy 16 announcement for Xbox is right around the corner.

Final Fantasy 16 launched as a PS5 exclusive in June 2023 and came to PC in September 2024. Since then, Xbox fans have been hoping for news of the game coming to their consoles.

In October 2024, producer Naoki Yoshida, known as Yoshi-P, expressed a desire to bring Final Fantasy 16 to Xbox. This matches Square Enix’s plans to release their games on multiple platforms.

Square Enix’s deal with PlayStation was reportedly temporary, and rumors of an Xbox release started after the PC version launched. It now seems the company is ready to bring the game to Microsoft’s platform.

Adding to the anticipation, Lunatic Ignus recently shared hints on Twitter about Xbox’s January showcase. The insider believes Final Fantasy 16 will be the “fifth announcement” at the event.

They also mentioned that the “fourth announcement” is still unknown and could be linked to Xbox’s future plans. The upcoming Xbox Direct on January 23 will be a huge event for Microsoft as the company looks to create some momentum around its 2025 lineup.

Final Fantasy 16 Xbox
It’s important to take these rumors with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed.

Another insider claimed that Xbox Developer Direct is going to be bigger than people are expecting so the rumor of Final Fantasy launching on Xbox makes perfect sense.

If it is released on Xbox, it will be interesting to see how well it performs on the platform. Final Fantasy 16’s launch on PC was quite underwhelming, as it only sold 286K units.

Game Pass Needs To Triple In Size By 2030 To Reach Its Goal of 100 Million Subscribers

Story Highlight
  • Xbox Game Pass needs to be at least three times its current size to reach 100 million subscriber goal by 2030.
  • The analysis claims the service needs to grow by 40% every year to make the massive threshold possible.
  • Regardless, another report suggests that a record number of people signed up for Game Pass since last year.

While the ‘Everything is an Xbox’ ad campaign has been somewhat controversial, the claims have only been possible because of the Game Pass’ significance in the gaming scene.

Now, a new analysis has revealed that Game Pass needs to at least triple in size by 2030 to reach the forecasted 100 million sub count by Microsoft. The subscribers are currently rumored to be hovering around the 34 million mark, which is still behind PS Plus.

Why it matters: Microsoft has placed lofty forecasts for Game Pass that it needs to reach by 2030. However, that is only possible if the subscription service can manage to grow from 34 to 100 million in the next 5 years.

Xbox Game Pass Black Ops 6
An analyst predicted that Black Ops 6 would boost Game Pass subscribers by 4 million.

A report by The Information states that Xbox expects Game Pass to grow at a staggering rate of 40% yearly to reach 100 million subs by 2030. In other words, the growth amount would be quicker than its rate of growth has been every year since 2020.

Analysts have held different views regarding the huge milestone that Game Pass needs to achieve in the next half-decade. Analyst Michael Pachter predicted last year that the service could reach 200 million subscribers by 2034 alone.

On the flip side, many argue that such a threshold is not possible given the current trajectory. The service has also been cannibalizing Xbox game sales by a gargantuan 80%, as another analyst claimed.

gamepass-steam
Game Pass is also rumored to launch on Steam in the future to grow its subscribers.

It is best to take the analysis with a pinch of salt, as a lot could influence its growth during the next five years. Nevertheless, Game Pass rolled out 137 titles last year valued at around $4,800.

Story Highlight
  • The developers behind The Witcher 4 and The Blood of Dawnwalker wish each other the best.
  • CDPR developers have stated there is no need to create a false rivalry between the two teams.
  • Fans are excited to see Rebel Wolves’ upcoming title, which is being led by the director behind The Witcher 3.

The Witcher 4 was announced by CDPR last month and is led by around 100 veteran developers from the franchise. This announcement has many fans excited to see the IP’s evolution, with many awaiting Ciri’s portrayal as the protagonist.

However, another major game from the developers behind The Witcher 3 was announced recently. The Blood of Dawnwalker is being led by the director of The Witcher 3, promising a fantasy RPG experience that has already captured everyone’s attention.

With these two major reveals setting the stage for CDPR and its former developers to make a major impact on the industry, the two teams have come together to show their support for each other.

Why it matters: The gaming industry has faced many rough patches recently, so developers supporting encouraging is always a pleasant sight.

A recent tweet from user Michael Loda highlighted the current discourse around The Witcher 4 and The Blood of Dawnwalker.

Because of the controversies surrounding The Witcher 4, a vocal part of the gaming audience has begun to draw comparisons between the two, often painting one or the other in a negative light.

However, Patrick Mills from CDPR states that the team is on great terms with Rebel Wolves. He showed his support for his former colleagues, stating that developers from both studios still stay in touch.

Lots of devs between our two game studios are friends, and we like to see our friends succeed.

-Philipp Weber

Ultimately, both teams hope to see their games succeed. The Blood of Dawnwalker will be the first to make its debut, arriving later this year. The Witcher 4, on the other hand, does not have a release date yet but should arrive within the next few years at some point.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Reportedly Banned In Saudi Arabia Due To Immoral Scenes

Story Highlight
  • Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is in early access right and will be released on February 4.
  • However, ahead of its release, the game has reportedly been banned in Saudi Arabia.
  • According to a Saudi gaming outlet, the highly anticipated title has been banned due to promoting LGBTQ agenda via unskippable cut scenes.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 early access was recently made available for the players, and the initial reception is quite positive. It is well optimized on consoles as the troublesome Xbox Series S runs KCD2 at stable 30 FPS on native 1080P resolution

That said, the fandom seemed to have some concerns regarding the game going woke. It seems like the highly anticipated title is promoting an agenda via unskippable cut scenes, which has caused Saudi Arabia to ban it in the country.

Why it matters: Saudi Arabia has always been sensitive to such things, as it never promotes LGBTQ for various reasons. So, it is understandable that the game should be banned in regions where this agenda isn’t promoted.

A Saudi gaming outlet has posted on Twitter that the game has been banned in Saudi Arabia for promoting immoral scenes through unskippable cutscenes. The outlet further reports that the developer refused to release a revised version of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 for this region; hence, it was banned.

It is also worth noting that the authority that is responsible for such tasks in the country has not made an official statement regarding the matter. So, the game hasn’t been officially banned yet.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Is Set To Release On February 24, 2025 On PC and Consoles.

This is just a rumor from an outlet, so fans should take this with a grain of salt until the official authority gives a statement regarding the ban.

That being said, this report is most likely true as Saudi Arabia has banned several games before in the region due to immoral scenes, which is why the country doing it again won’t be surprising at all.

Microsoft Announces New Layoffs, Gaming Division Affected

Story Highlight
  • Microsoft is laying off more employees across various departments, including security, sales, devices, and gaming.
  • The layoffs come on the heels of last year’s job cuts and raise concerns over the gap between executive pay and workforce reductions.
  • Despite significant investments, Microsoft’s gaming division is affected by the layoffs, indicating that even key growth areas are not immune.

Microsoft has started another round of layoffs affecting staff in security, sales, devices, and gaming departments. This comes after recent job cuts linked to the company’s performance in response to the current economic challenges.

Why it matters: Microsoft’s CEO was able to secure a $30 million raise for himself despite laying off over 2500 employees last year. It seems the CEO is planning to run back the clock this year as well.

Xbox Head Phil Spencer

According to Business Insider, employees in the security division were notified about layoffs earlier this week. A Microsoft spokesperson called the layoffs “small in size” but didn’t share how many people were impacted.

Gaming, an important part of Microsoft’s future plans, is also impacted. The company has invested heavily in gaming, including acquiring Activision Blizzard. However, these layoffs show that even growth areas are not safe from layoffs these days.

The experiences and devices division, which focuses on creating new hardware and software, is facing similar issues. This area has become more competitive in recent years.

This comes almost a year after Microsoft laid off over 2000 thousand employees in the gaming division.

Meanwhile, the security division, led by Charlie Bell, a former Amazon cloud executive, is among the teams facing layoffs. This is notable given Microsoft’s recent push on cybersecurity.

The company expanded its Secure Future Initiative last year, focusing on security after major breaches, including attacks by Chinese hackers that accessed customer emails.

Satya Nadella
In October 2024, CEO Satya Nadella’s pay rose by $30 million, bringing his total compensation to $71 million, despite major layoffs at the company.

Microsoft’s increased focus on security even became a key factor in employee performance reviews. CEO Satya Nadella highlighted this shift in an email, saying, “If you’re faced with a choice between security and another priority, choose security.”

This wave of recent layoffs is part of a broader trend in the tech industry, with even giant firms like Microsoft reviewing their workforce to stay efficient in an unpredictable global economy.

Cyberpunk 2077 Continues To Thrive In 2025; Still Reaching 70K Steam Players

Story Highlight
  • Cyberpunk 2077 was released back in 2020, but its main arc was started in 2022 after the Edgerunners update and, of course, the anime Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
  • Furthermore, after the release of update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty, the game’s fandom spiked again.
  • Thanks to all of these factors, the open-world action-adventure RPG can still retain 70K players on Steam even in 2025.

The Cyberpunk 2077 launch was a disaster. Many fans had high expectations for this game, but due to countless technical issues on launch, they weren’t able to enjoy it. However, CDPR made a comeback and turned the game into a completely different one.

After the anime show Cyberpunk Edgerunners, update 2.0, and Phantom Liberty, its reception completely changed, and Cyberpunk 2077 became one of the best games, even the best for some. The Night City and Dog Town experience for the fandom is unforgettable.

Because of this, its player base is enjoying the experience even in 2025, as the game is still reaching over 70K players on Steam.

Why it matters: It is pretty impressive for over 4-year-old games to reach such players on a single platform. Some games released last year can’t even manage to retain half of what this game is retaining after over 4 years.

Cyberpunk 2077 Steam Players
Cyberpunk 2077, Released Back in 2020, Is Still Reaching Over 70K Players In 2025 | Source: SteamDB

As you can see in the image above, the open-world action-adventure RPG reached over 72K players on January 1, 2025. The game maintained an average of 70K players for a while, then stooped down to 50K, which is still pretty great.

It is impressive that a title that has been around for over four years can still perform like this. The achievement sounds huge because RPGs like Dragon Age: The Veilguard were released last year and have lost almost all of their player base in just a couple of months.

CDPR never gave up on Cyberpunk 2077 and made sure its fans enjoyed every second of it. The game features characters that talk to you, meaning you can have a deep emotional connection with them. In fact, those characters look alive to you, which is one of the main reasons why its fandom is still alive in massive numbers

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty
Phantom Liberty Is Hailed As One of The Best DLCs In Gaming History

CDPR still takes the launch failure to heart and has guaranteed fans on many occasions that it will never repeat such mistakes. So, fans can have high expectations for its sequel as it will feature photorealistic graphics and, most likely, multiplayer

New Halo Games Already Being Playtested; Announcement Coming This Year

Story Highlight
  • The accredited Halo insider claims that developers are already testing future projects in the franchise on a weekly basis.
  • He believes that the studio will reveal at least one new Halo game sometime later this year.
  • Many new maps for the future of Halo titles are currently in production as they continue to be developed.

A reputable insider has revealed that Halo Studios is now playtesting multiple Halo titles. Moreover, at least one new title might be announced later in 2025.

Why it matters: Halo Studios’ active playtesting of future Halo games suggests that at least one of them might be released in a year or two. Xbox is expected to unveil at least one new Halo entry later this year.

The notable industry insider, Rebs Gaming, claims Halo Studios is already playtesting new games in the franchise.

The popular Halo insider Rebs Gaming explains on Twitter that the development progress of future entries has come far enough for them to be in the playtesting stages ‘on a weekly basis.’

Many new maps are currently being developed. In fact, playtesting is a ‘key ingredient’ to the onboarding process for new hires.

These titles were officially confirmed to be in the works in October last year, but the progress has been pretty impressive since then.

The studio head, Pierre Hintze, previously also said that the ‘next step will be talking about the games’ in the future. Based on these tidbits, he expects at least one game to be unveiled later this year.

Furthermore, the new titles may also be released on PS5. Previous rumors have suggested that Halo and other Xbox games could be coming to PS5.

Rebs says playtesting for the future of Halo games is taking place on a weekly basis.

Overall, it’s wise to take the rumors with a grain of salt since they are simply speculations about Xbox possibly announcing the next Halo game later this year. Considering the playtests, such an outcome is not that far-fetched to consider.

Suicide Squad Retcons Batman Death; More Batman Arkham Games Now Possible

Story Highlight
  • Suicide Squad’s latest episode confirms Batman and the Justice League are not dead.
  • The episode reveals that the Suicide Squad killed clones created by Brainiac.
  • This major retcon could be part of Rocksteady’s future plans to revive the Batman Arkham franchise.

Suicide Squad became controversial for more than a few reasons. Its live-service approach was a complete failure, the game failed to measure up to Batman Arkham’s legacy, and it cost Warner Bros millions in losses.

These problems aside, the game’s treatment of its main cast also became a point of contention. Everyone in the Justice League was killed, including the same Batman from the Arkham series. Fans were unhappy with this outcome, and nearly one full year later, Rocksteady has retconned the plot point, opening up new possibilities for the future.

Why it matters: Fans have wanted to see another Batman Arkham game for the longest time, and many believe the retcon is a small hint at Rocksteady’s future plans.

The latest episode of Suicide Squad shows Batman alive and well. It also confirms that the heroes killed during the game were clones created by Brainiac, confirming that heroes like Superman and The Flash are still alive.

This retcon has seemingly come out of nowhere since the Justice League’s death was the foundation of Rocksteady’s latest game, and it could have more than a few implications for the team’s future.

The Batman Arkham universe can now be continued with the same Batman reprising his role as the series lead. Elsewhere, the team could work on a future Justice League or Superman game within this universe, something many have wanted for years. Interestingly, James Gunn has also teased more games in the same universe.

Batman Died A Brutal Death At The Hands of The Suicide Squad

This story beat concludes Suicide Squad, ending Rocksteady’s ambitious albeit futile live-service efforts. The title was recently given away on PS Plus in a last-ditch effort to attract more players, but the reaction has been anything but positive.

As such, the team will likely return to a familiar superhero in the future, making this retcon the perfect setup for another Batman Arkham entry.

The ‘Gaming Market Doesn’t Really Want A Game Pass’ Says Analyst

Story Highlight
  • An Analyst says that most of the gaming market doesn’t want Game Pass.
  • In 2021, Microsoft had a choice to wind up its business or invest in Game Pass.
  • It did the latter and decided to buy Bethesda Softworks and Activision Blizzard.

Gaming subscription services provide great value to the players especially now that Game Pass gets all the major releases on day 1. However, they aren’t the best for business, and the most prominent studios are hesitant to put their games on the service.

According to a new report, in 2021, Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella had a choice to either wind up their business or acquire more studios and put their titles on Xbox Game Pass and Cloud Services. He ended up acquiring Bethesda and Activision.

Why it matters: It has been revealed multiple times that Game Pass isn’t sustainable. Despite games getting a lot of traction, because of the high budgets with games these days, studios don’t want to put their games on the service.

As per the article published by The Information (via ResetEra), several key studios have resisted Microsoft’s pitch of putting their titles on Game Pass in exchange for fees the company pays.

I just think the majority of the game market doesn’t really want a game pass like the one Microsoft is offering.

The addition of Call of Duty saw Game Pass subscribers increase

Gaming industry analyst, Gus Zinn says that most of the gaming industry doesn’t want anything like Game Pass. The company had even hoped that Activision’s acquisition would help them with Cloud Gaming, but it didn’t.

Before the Activision deal fell through, Microsoft had hoped to gain 100 Million Game Pass subscribers by 2030. However, come 2025, and things don’t look too promising. While the service has seen a boost due to recent releases, it isn’t that substantial to take it to Microsoft’s previous goal.

Assassin’s Creed 4 Remake To Introduce Gameplay Changes, Confirms Ubisoft

Story Highlight
  • A Ubisoft developer’s profile has officially confirmed the Assassin’s Creed 4 remake.
  • This remake will offer gameplay changes, including adjustments to the combat system.
  • The team is aiming for a next-gen rebirth of the classic title with this re-release.

Ubisoft is currently hard at work on multiple remakes for its biggest franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, and Prince of Persia. Among these remakes, Assassin’s Creed 4 may be the most exciting, with fans still praising the original to this day.

Many believe Assassin’s Creed 4 needs a graphical facelift and small improvements to bring it up to par with modern standards for a solid remake, but Ubisoft seems to have a different idea. New evidence suggests that Assassin’s Creed’s pirate adventure will be remade with multiple gameplay changes.

Why it matters: Significant gameplay changes in remakes are always controversial since developers going this route risk alienating the original fanbase.

View post on imgur.com

Ubisoft previously confirmed multiple remakes for its flagship IP, but no specific title was confirmed. Assassin’s Creed 4 was only discussed in rumors, but a Ubisoft employee’s LinkedIn profile has finally made it official.

Looking at the profile, this remake is mentioned as one of the developer’s projects. The same profile also mentions new gameplay systems for the title, essentially confirming that Ubisoft is not making a one-to-one remake.

While the changes are unknown, the combat and wildlife ecosystems are mentioned as elements that will be revamped. This could potentially mean a combat system closer to modern entries of the series, including the RPG titles.

The developer also hopes that the remake of Assassin’s Creed 4 will be an outstanding next-gen rebirth of the AAA classic.

Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag Remake
The Black Flag Remake Will Be More Than A Graphical Facelift

With Assassin’s Creed Shadows arriving in just over two months, fans can expect to hear more about the Assassin’s Creed 4 Remake at some point later this year. Perhaps the aforementioned gameplay changes will be elaborated upon by then, so fans should stay tuned for more details.

What are your thoughts on Ubisoft’s approach? Do you think the changes will be for the better? Let’s discuss this in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Most Ubisoft Devs Don’t Know Anything Other Than to Push Social Change, Claims Insider

Story Highlight
  • Most of the well-known Ubisoft employees have already left for better positions.
  • The ones left are ‘deadweight’ and don’t know how to do anything but push social change.
  • The company has also left no room for creativity and doesn’t care about bugs in games.

As Ubisoft’s turmoil continues, a new report has emerged, further dissecting the state of the studio. According to it, most of the well-known developers that were at the studio for the longest time, have already left and found much better positions.

Now, the other ones, who are good at their job, but aren’t too familiar in the industry, are struggling to find new positions. This leaves the rest of the developers, that the source labels as ‘Deadweight’ who don’t know how to do anything

Why it matters: Most of the team that made Ubisoft great with titles like the early Assassin’s Creed games, Far Cry 3, and others have left the studio which has resulted in quite underwhelming releases in the last few years.

This rumor comes from AccolonnTV, who states he received multiple documents from an alleged Ubisoft insider who says he works as a developer at the company. The documents reveal the current state of the company’s employees.

The documents further say that the ‘deadweight’ developers do pretty much everything wrong. However, one thing they excel at is pushing social change. So, when they don’t do their job, they are turned into political activists.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Naoe Parkour
Most devs working on AC Shadows are on their first project

Furthermore, working at Ubisoft is becoming a nightmare, as it doesn’t spare any space for creativity because all of the work is about factory lines and logistics. Also, if there are any bugs in the process, they are marked as ‘Works as designed, Won’t fix’.

This also aligns with what Assassin’s Creed producer recently said; that most developers working on Assassin’s Creed Shadows are on their first ever project. If the reports are true, it doesn’t seem the future is bright for Ubisoft, especially now with them looking for a buyout.

GeForce RTX 40 To Get DLSS 3 Upgrade With New AI Model For Frame Generation

Story Highlight
  • NVIDIA is introducing an improved AI model for Frame Generation within the DLSS 3 ecosystem, which will benefit all GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs.
  • The new model enhances performance, as demonstrated by a 10.4% increase in FPS in an internal test at 4K resolution.
  • While minimal for high-end GPUs, the new model can slightly reduce VRAM usage (4.4% in the test).

NVIDIA employee Jacob Freeman has revealed that users of GeForce RTX 40 will benefit from the new AI model for Frame Generation. This latest version of the technology will be applied to the NVIDIA DLSS 3 ecosystem to ensure compatibility with all GeForce RTX 40 graphics cards.

Do not confuse this updated AI model for Frame Generation with the new Multi Frame Generation, which comes with DLSS 4, exclusive to the GeForce RTX 50 series. It is the only added feature exclusive to the company’s latest graphics cards.

Frame Generation can generate an AI-powered single frame between two frames rendered by your GPU. In short, Multi Frame Generation does the same thing but generates 3 frames.

This drastically increases gaming performance. The company has also added improvements, including a new frame generation model with several benefits, to correct problems related to visual quality and graphical defects.

RTX 50/40 Performance Soars with New AI Frame Generation

Whether frame Generation or Multi-Frame Generation, the base technology that generates these frames by AI has been improved. This is where Jacob Freeman, an NVIDIA employee known for providing information on his official X account, comes into play.

He has been in charge of releasing this news and provided the image you see above;

As you can see above, in an internal test, a game running at 4K resolution via NVIDIA DLSS with Frame Generation ran at 124 FPS. After applying the new AI model, performance jumped to 137 FPS.

That sounds like a small amount, but updating your graphics drivers can improve performance by 10.4%. We can also see how the VRAM used by the game has been reduced from 9 to 8.6 GB. This is a reduction of 4.4%.

In reality, this is not even an improvement. Nothing changes if you have a GPU with more than 12GB VRAM. But there will be cases where this slight improvement can help prevent VRAM from becoming saturated, which can impact performance significantly and maintain the graphical settings to avoid reducing the visual quality and free up the necessary memory so that it does not collapse, noticeably affecting system performance.

What are your thoughts on Nvidia giving some improvement to the RTX 40 series despite launching a new series? That’s a surprise from Nvidia. Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
