Microsoft Improves Windows 11 Experience By Giving Users More Control And Less Copilot

Story Highlight
  • Microsoft canceled plans to put Copilot into the notification system and the Settings app.
  • Concerns over the “Recall” screen-recording feature caused delays and forced a broader rethink of the AI strategy.
  • AI will remain in the OS but will move toward being a contextual tool rather than the main focus of the interface.

Microsoft has decided to step back from its decision to adopt Windows 11 as the main base for AI Copilot in next-generation OS systems. The change comes from the result of strong feedback from customers; what looked inevitable has now become true, and the Redmond business is removing several Copilot capabilities at the last minute. These are not small adjustments, but major changes that could reshape how AI fits into everyday use on Windows 11.

Windows Copilot PC functions AI

According to Windows Central, the company has officially cancelled projects that have been in development for some time, such as Copilot’s integration into the notification system or its direct presence in the Settings app. Both features were consistent with Microsoft’s initial vision of introducing AI to every aspect of the system, but they never materialized in preview versions, indicating that something wasn’t quite right internally and that there were severe worries about the company’s leadership.

When we look back a few months, the main reason is clear. Microsoft has faced criticism relentlessly, prompting many users to see the company’s activities as an oversupply of AI in Windows 11, with Copilot perceived as unhelpful, redundant, or intrusive. Instead of improving things, having Copilot everywhere has been met with criticism from a large percentage of users, who believe it adds more noise than true support.

Also, the feature Recall has sparked a privacy controversy, causing Microsoft to postpone it and reconsider its approach. Basically, it enables continuous recording of on-screen activities and AI-powered search. This move was not an isolated incident, but rather it influenced other decisions on the Copilot plan, eventually leading to its termination from Windows 11. And that’s saying something, given that it’s Microsoft in 2026.

Microsoft Copilot Criticism

The strategic shift can be seen clearly. Microsoft is not lying; it has no plans to abandon Copilot AI. However, it is currently being rumored that it is about to shift its primary focus away from Copilot.

This could appear weird, but it is not. AI will still exist, but in a more subtle, contextual, and, most of all, less intrusive manner for the user. This concludes that Windows 11 will continue to include increasingly intelligent features while not turning the entire system into an unpleasant AI showcase.

Although it is not what we all want, it’s a starting point. As Microsoft has finally realized something fundamental that it had previously overlooked, which is that AI must be an aid, not a detriment. What remains to be seen is if this repair is just a superficial clean-up of Windows 11 or the start of a far more realistic strategy within the OS.

Nvidia Boss Defends DLSS 5, Says “It’s Not Generative AI, It’s Content-Control Gen AI”

Story Highlight
  • Jensen Hunag defends Nvidia’s new DLSS 5 tech amid people calling it AI slop.
  • He says the tech isn’t generative AI; it is content-control generative AI.
  • The developers will be able to fine-tune it according to their artistic style.

Nvidia just introduced the new iteration of its upscaling tech, DLSS 5, and let’s just say it garnered some interesting attention. The tech received heavy criticism, as it seemingly pasted an AI overlay to improve visuals.

Amid heavy backlash, Nvidia’s boss has defended DLSS 5 and says that the people have got it completely wrong. The technology they’ve used isn’t generative AI; instead its “content-control generative AI.”

Why it matters: Content control or not, the showcase looked weirdly out of place. Instead of just upscaling the image, the showcased DLSS 5 completely altered the art style, making characters appear very different from the original.

The DLSS 5 showcase completely altered the original art style

In a recent Q&A, Jensen Huang spoke to Tom’s Hardware about DLSS 5. He said that the tech doesn’t alter the art style; it provides the developers with control over how to fine-tune the image according to their style.

Well, first of all, they’re completely wrong. All of that is in the control, direct control, of the game developer. This is very different than generative AI; it’s content-control generative AI.

– Jensen Huang

The majority expressed their apathy over the latest DLSS iteration

Huang said that this isn’t post-processing at the frame level, it’s generative control at the geometry level. This is very different from generative AI; that’s the reason they are calling it content-control generative AI.

This is essentially neural rendering. It is good to find out that developers have the full artistic control over this, considering what Nvidia showcased was horrendous, but we’ll get a better idea of the tech when it launches later this year.

Highguard Studio Seemingly Shuttered Following Game’s Failure And Shutdown

Story Highlight
  • Highguard is gone forever, and it seems Wildlight Entertainment has now been shut down.
  • The studio’s official website and LinkedIn page no longer show up.
  • Studio head Chad Grenier is also open to work and seems to no longer be working at Wildlight Entertainment.

Highguard has become the only game to rival Concord in terms of the magnitude of failure for a AAA title in recent years. Concord was shut down by Sony just two weeks after its release, and similarly, Highguard was recently shuttered over a month after its release.

Unfortunately, the team behind Concord did not survive this fallout, and it seems Highguard developer Wildlight Entertainment has met a similar fate.

Why it matters: Wildlight Entertainment had already suffered layoffs before the game’s shutdown, so it seems it was only a matter of time before the entire studio was disbanded.

Highguard is a mishmash of many popular multiplayer tropes.
Highguard Tried Something New But Failed To Appeal To Many Players

Heading over to the official Wildlight Entertainment website currently returns a 404 error. Although this isn’t sufficient evidence alone, the studio’s LinkedIn page further adds to the doubts regarding its future.

Visiting the Wildlight Entertainment LinkedIn page shows that it no longer exists. As such, it seems highly likely that the studio has ceased operation following Highguard’s collapse.

If there was doubt left, studio head Chad Grenier’s LinkedIn profile reveals that he is open to work and is no longer at Wildlight Entertainment.

While official word on the matter has yet to show up, it seems incredibly unlikely for Wildlight Entertainment to be functioning after the events that have transpired over the last month.

Unfortunately, Highguard launched in a saturated market and did not do enough to stand out, even if it was far from a bad game at the end of the day.

Dusk Golem, a known Resident Evil leaker, shared more tidbits on the Requiem DLC in a new social media post. While the insider emphasizes that this leak isn’t from his sources, he does believe that Ada will be present in the DLC in some capacity.

The DLC is also said to “delve deeper into the world of Requiem,” so it will most probably explain the game’s ending. Other rumors suggest that the expansion will focus on what Leon was doing during the events of Resident Evil 7 and 8.

Leon is also shown to be wearing a wedding ring in Resident Evil Requiem and as such, there’s a fan theory that he may have tied the knot with Ada Wong. Even the game director himself has fueled this speculation.

Whatever the case may be, we hope to find out with the DLC expansion.

  • It has also reportedly already generated over $20 million in revenue from Steam alone.
  • The title is set to be one of the biggest AAA launches, especially for a new IP.

Crimson Desert is easily going to be one of the most successful games of 2026, especially in terms of economics. The game had over 3 million wishlists already 2 weeks before launch, and new sales data suggest massive sales as well.

A new report from an analysis site reveals that Crimson Desert had already sold around 400K copies on Steam as of March 16. It has already reportedly generated a massive revenue of over $20 million as well.

Why it matters: Pearl Abyss’s title is gearing up for a massive launch, which could be historical, especially for a new IP. The game has a lot of promise, and all signs point towards it delivering big time.

Starfield Officially Launches on PS5 April 7 Alongside New Story DLC And Fresh Content

Story Highlight
  • Starfield lands on PS5 consoles on April 7.
  • A new ‘Free Lanes’ update for the game will be a complete overhaul, add new content, and more.
  • The same update also features a new paid DLC expansion titled ‘Terran Armada.’

When Starfield initially launched in 2023, the reception for Bethesda’s first new IP in over 2 decades was underwhelming, as many complained the sci-fi open-world game felt barren and boring.

Since then, Bethesda has been slowly but surely adding new content to improve the game’s state. Now, they’ve finally announced the game’s biggest update, which will overhaul it completely, alongside a new DLC expansion and a PS5 release date, in hopes of redeeming themselves.

Why it matters: Seeing how CD Projekt Red was able to redeem themselves with Cyberpunk 2077 2.0, many are hoping that Starfield would get a similar treatment, and so far, this update is looking promising.

PS5 users can expect to dig into Starfield on April 7 next month, the same date when the update ‘Free Lanes’ is dropping for all platforms. For the PS5 version, expect full support for the DualSense controller, which will showcase its capabilities.

The mid-gen refresh PS5 Pro will also support the game, with Bethesda likely using the new Enhanced PSSR tech to deliver solid visuals at a solid framerate. The game will be priced at $49.99 for the base game and $59.99 for the premium edition, which adds both DLC expansions, in-game currency, a digital artbook, and a skin pack.

As for the content, Free Lanes is described as a ‘game-wide evolution‘ by Bethesda that revamps travel in space, changes how game progression works, introduces new abilities, side quests, and customizable options that will offer tons of hours of more gameplay and fix the biggest issue of the game feeling bland.

Todd Howard Says That This New Update Isn’t Starfield 2.0 And Won’t Change Much For Those Who Didn’t Like The Base Game

The new DLC expansion will be titled ‘Terran Armada,’ introducing a new hostile faction that claims to be ‘true’ children of the Earth. The expansion will also add an incursion mechanic, which is a random encounter with the Terran Armada throughout the settled systems.

Check out all the details at the Bethesda article outlining new content and changes.

How In-Game Marketplaces And Currencies Define Games Today

Story Highlight
  • Many games have evolved to offer fully functional marketplaces today.
  • Counter-Strike is the biggest example of this system today, offering the community an opportunity to make thousands of dollars under the right circumstances.
  • Games like Silent Hill PT can also become incredibly valuable if they are no longer being sold.

In-game purchases, or microtransactions, have become so popular today that they have evolved into completely different ecosystems.

Particularly, the likes of CS2 have established huge communities built entirely around the aspect of trading, and in many cases, those involved in these communities don’t even engage with the core game.

This is mainly because these marketplaces have become real businesses for some. Many have made hundreds of thousands of dollars through Counter-Strike’s cases and rare weapon skins, monitoring the market fluctuations much like in the real world.

On the other hand, some players also take an interest in money earning games as an alternative to trading cases, skins, or rare items.

Why it matters: These options allow games to attract players from outside the typical audience.

Games With Live Marketplaces

Counter-Strike 2
Counter-Strike 2 Is Played By Millions Daily

As mentioned above, Counter-Strike is the leading example of a game with a thriving community. Indeed, those who have been able to score big on the game have made thousands of dollars. However, Counter-Strike is far from the only example of such an ecosystem.

A game like Rocket League was famous for having a community built around trading a few years ago. These are two of the biggest examples, but other games have smaller, albeit similarly dedicated communities built around the buying and selling of items for real-world cash.

Digital Ownership

Silent Hill PT
Silent Hill PT Shows How Ownership Makes A Difference

Of course, digital ownership isn’t just limited to cases and fancy weapons in a few games. Recently, players have begun to use the rarity of battle passes and certain cosmetic items to their advantage.

Many will sell accounts with a specific outfit that gamers are after, and these accounts can cost hundreds of dollars, if not more. Moreover, in extreme cases, entire games are sold by players once they are delisted.

For instance, PS4s with copies of Silent Hill P.T. sold for thousands of dollars once the game was officially delisted by Konami.

Of course, access to such items usually requires ownership of digital currency to begin with. This is where storefronts like Eneba shine, providing access to all sorts of items across storefronts like Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox.

For anybody looking to delve further into the world of digital ownership and trading through in-game items, due diligence is recommended, especially since the market carries a ton of risks at first.

Bethesda Boss Confirms Plans To Use DLSS 5 In Future Titles After Starfield

Story Highlight
  • Bethesda is confirmed to be one of Nvidia’s partners using DLSS 5 moving forward.
  • Todd Howard says that the technology allows studios to break past traditional rendering limits and bring their art direction to life.
  • Bethesda has also clarified that artists will have control over DLSS 5 and its implementation in games.

Nvidia announced DLSS 5 yesterday, debuting a technology that could change video game graphics forever. Initial reactions to this technology, however, have been largely negative, with many dubbing it an AI slop filter for games.

Many have also expressed concerns regarding the hardware cost of DLSS 5, since Nvidia’s own demo utilized two RTX 5090s. Anyhow, developers and publishers appear to be a lot more enthusiastic about the proposition of DLSS 5 and neural rendering.

Many have now become Nvidia partners and integrated DLSS 5 into their games. Among them, Bethesda has also confirmed plans to keep using DLSS 5.

Why it matters: Wide adoption of Nvidia’s latest technology is already underway, hinting at a major impact on games for the foreseeable future.

The Witcher 3 DLC Expected To Launch In September Before GTA 6

Story Highlight
  • New DLC for The Witcher 3 has been rumored for a while now.
  • A Polish analyst believes CDPR will launch the new content in September to avoid competition against GTA 6.
  • It is said that this window would give CDPR enough time to test the DLC while guaranteeing success.

The Witcher 3 remains incredibly popular ten years after its release, and recent excitement around The Witcher 4 has players more interested than ever before in the series.

Amid the building excitement for The Witcher 4’s release, many are also looking forward to the long-rumored DLC for The Witcher 3. This DLC alone is expected to sell millions of units, with a release date potentially planned for Q3 2026.

Why it matters: The Witcher 3 sold over 50 million units, so the DLC is expected to have a huge audience waiting for it in Q3. Moreover, it could lead to a boost to the RPG’s already-massive fanbase.

The Witcher
The Witcher 3 Changed Things Forever For CDPR

Polish site Strefa Inwestorów recently reported on the rumors regarding The Witcher 3 DLC making the rounds.

As per an analyst’s comments, the DLC will likely be positioned to launch before Q4 in order to avoid a clash with GTA 6. He believes September would be the optimal window for CDPR to position this new content as a notable addition to the RPG.

The analyst says that September would work best for CDPR, because it would give the team enough time to test the DLC. Moreover, the team could skip the summer season, which the analyst sees as a vacation period for gamers.

I assume that CDPR will try to release the DLC before the new GTA release date to avoid this difficult period for other titles. I think September is the best window.

The Witcher 3 DLC Might Avoid Competing With GTA 6

This prediction aside, it is important to note that it’s hard to pinpoint an exact release window since plans are always in flux. It’s no secret that many studios intend to avoid competition with GTA 6, so the analyst’s predictions still hold a lot of merit.

The team has yet to share any official word on the matter so far, but if The Witcher 3 is indeed set to receive new DLC as rumors suggest, an announcement should now be quite close.

NVIDIA Needed To Use Two RTX 5090s For The DLSS 5 Tech Demo, Reveals Analyst

Story Highlight
  • The DLSS 5 tech demo required two GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs to run smoothly.
  • One GPU ran the game while the other was exclusively there to make the upscaler work.
  • Nvidia has confirmed that when the technology launches in Fall 2026, it will only utilise one GPU, due to better optimization.

The gaming world has been anything but positive towards Nvidia’s upcoming DLSS 5 technology. Gamers have criticised the AI-powered upscaler for giving video games a generative AI tint, while many others claim that DLSS 5 destroys the artistic integrity of a title.

Nvidia has claimed that the tool will be under the jurisdiction of game developers and is not just a filter. However, all of these conversations will be pointless if the technology isn’t better optimized at launch, as its current variation requires a hefty amount of GPU strength to even work.

Why it matters: Considering how most PC gamers don’t have a system with better specs than a base PS5, the DLSS 5 may not be as big a revolution if it requires two GPUs to run.

dlss 5 on vs off resident evil requiem
The Nvidia tech demo was only possible due to two RTX 5090 GPUs.

According to Digital Foundry, Nvidia actually needed two GeForce RTX 5090s to make its DLSS 5 tech demo work. One of the GPUs was used to play the game, while the other worked specifically to run the AI-powered upscaler.

The analysts further explained that DLSS 5 only requires two RTX 5090s to work right now, as it’s still far away from its fully optimised iteration. Nvidia is developing the technology to run on a single GPU, and is still working on reducing its VRAM footprint while improving performance before it starts shipping in fall 2026.

Even Bethesda has come out to confirm that this is a very early version of DLSS 5, and studios will be working with Nvidia to further optimise the upscaler and refine the lighting to maintain the artistic intent of the game.

GeForce RTX 5090
When it ships in Fall 2026, DLSS 5 will only utilise one RTX 5090 GPU.

The conversations around the AI-powered Nvidia tech will continue to rage on. But, at least it’s confirmed that DLSS 5 will only require a single GPU while being totally optional for players.
