Crimson Desert Becomes The Best-Selling Title on Steam Ahead of Launch

Crimson Desert has been at the end of some criticism, however, for its use of Denuvo. Pearl Abyss has claimed it won’t affect performance, and it doesn’t seem to have put players off, as the title has shot up to the top of the Steam charts ahead of its release.

Why it matters: An ambitious effort like Crimson Desert, built in a studio’s own new engine, getting this level of success and attention is a positive sign for the gaming industry.

Ahead of its launch, Crimson Desert has become the best-selling paid title on Steam’s global top sellers chart. The open-world game is currently ranked no. 2 on the best-sellers list, only behind Counter-Strike 2, a free-to-play title.

Furthermore, Crimson Desert has overtaken Slay the Spire 2, the biggest launch of 2026 so far, with more than 500k concurrent users, and the fan-favorite Resident Evil Requiem, which has shipped more than 6 million copies globally.

Considering how the Pearl Abyss title crossed 3 million wishlists weeks before launch, this sales performance on Steam is not surprising to see. Moreover, Crimson Desert seems to be brilliantly optimised for PC’s, as the minimum GPU required to play the game is the decade-old GTX 1060.

If that doesn’t sell you on the title, Pearl Abyss has promised that Crimson Desert will run at native 4K 60 FPS without requiring DLSS support thanks to their optimisation.

PSSR 2 Is Such A Big Improvement That It Now “Justifies The Existence of PS5 Pro”, Says Tech Analyst

Almost a year since the launch of its first iteration, Sony has now made PSSR 2 official for the masses, and it is indeed a huge upgrade. So big that tech analysts say that it now justifies the existence of the PS5 Pro. 

Why it matters: When the PS5 Pro came out, many didn’t recommend it based on the poor PSSR implementation and its higher price tag, which didn’t justify spending extra money for the Pro console. 

Digital Foundry thoroughly tested PSSR 2 and reached the conclusion that the upscaling is now so great that the PS5 Pro actually makes sense. It was tested in multiple titles, and the results were impressive across the board. 

Using Silent Hill f as an example, the fine detail, foliage, and Unreal Engine 5 issues were a mess with PSSR. In fact, TSR showed better results on the base PS5. Come PSSR 2, the visuals look stunning wth all issues now fixed.

This trend was similar for all the games that Digital Foundry tested, including Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Monster Hunter Wilds, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and Alan Wake 2. The tech supports 12 games at launch, with more to follow. 

If it wasn’t already, the PS5 Pro is now the best proposition to experience GTA 6 at launch. Sony and AMD must be working with them to bring PSSR 2 to the game, which will certainly provide unmatchable visuals.

DLSS 5 Draws Backlash From Community for Feeling Like an “AI Overlay”

Why it matters: With upscaling technologies like DLSS, FSR, and XeSS becoming a necessity for video games, it’s unfortunate to see Nvidia go with this approach and ruin the technology.

As showcased in this hands-on video by Digital Foundry, DLSS 5 appears to completely alter visuals by using the in-game image as a reference and generating photorealistic elements with AI.

Doing so ruins the game’s original art direction entirely. Take Grace Ashcroft from Resident Evil Requiem as an example; her facial model is entirely changed by DLSS 5.

On the brighter side, DLSS 5 makes a massive difference in lighting and even in games without Ray Trace implementation. Take Starfield, for example, the base lighting is very flat and tends to hide details, whereas DLSS 5 really brings them out. 

Still, most of the time, the ‘improved’ lighting feels soft and doesn’t fit the environment. In fact, it looks monotonous and like a sort of soft-color preset.

However, that’s the only good thing about the technology. In fact, DLSS 5 sometimes eliminates shadows, ruining the entire presentation. Improved lightning comes at a cost for reduced shadows, and it could make visuals worse in darker games like Resident Evil Requiem.

Anyhow, the trade-off for this lighting that Nvidia claims looks better, at the cost of altering the intended art style, is too much and ruins the original aim of what developers put their passion into the game for.

DLSS launches in Fall 2026, and Nvidia has yet to reveal which GPUs will support this latest iteration.

On social media, the official account of Cyberpunk 2077 confirmed this news, stating that the PS5 Pro patch will be coming in the near future. More details are expected within the coming weeks.

However, it is important to note that this update will bring graphical improvements, not any new content, as the account recently confirmed there are no new plans for an expansion or DLC.

The developers had previously reiterated several times that a PS5 Pro patch wasn’t in the works, but the new PSSR update has shifted things.

It seems that CDPR is utilizing the new Enhanced PSSR tech, which was built upon the FSR 4 upscaler. We’ve already seen what the new tech is capable of with Resident Evil Requiem. Titles with support for existing PSSR will also experience the benefit of this new tech starting next month.

As for performance, the PS5 Pro currently runs Cyberpunk 2077 at 60+ FPS in Performance mode and around 40 FPS in Ray Tracing mode. An educated guess means these numbers will be bumped up to 120FPS and 60FPS in both modes, respectively.

AMD Ryzen Master 2.14.3 Adds Ryzen 9000 Support, Expanded Eco Mode, and Restart-Free EXPO

AMD has released a new update to their famous Ryzen Master CPU tuning and overclocking software, version 2.14.3.5040. This version includes several significant changes that are clearly targeted at the current AM5 platform and Ryzen 9000 processors.

The update mainly centers on four very specific, or at least noticeable or relevant, areas: official support for Ryzen 9000, expansion of the 105W Eco mode, the ability to activate EXPO profiles without restarting the system, and the end of support for the older Ryzen 1000 and Ryzen 2000 series, as well as Threadripper processors.

The most significant upgrade is the official compatibility with AMD Ryzen 9000 processors for socket AM5, which was long delayed. This is required for Ryzen Master to accurately recognize these CPUs based on the Zen 5 architecture and allow their tuning from the software itself.

Users may now monitor processor behavior with Ryzen Master and modify parameters related to Precision Boost Overdrive, manual frequency adjustments, or automatic tools like Curve Optimizer straight from Windows, eliminating the need to frequently resort to the BIOS.

Another key feature is the extension of Eco mode to 105W, which is intended to reduce power consumption and temperature without losing performance. With this update, AMD enables this mode to be used on Ryzen 9000 CPUs with TDPs of 65W and 120W, allowing for significantly more energy-efficient configurations. This is especially good for tiny systems or systems where maintaining temperature control without wasting too much power is critical.

Furthermore, Ryzen Master now allows you to activate EXPO profiles directly from the software without having to restart your PC (and it actually works, unlike the last time). Previously, applying an EXPO profile required entering the BIOS or restarting the computer for the memory controller to implement the changes, but with this update, you can perform short testing and tweaks on the fly without disrupting what you’re doing.

The fourth major change is a farewell. AMD has chosen to drop support for Ryzen and Threadripper 1000 and 2000 processors from Ryzen Master 2.14.3.5040. This means that these CPUs will no longer be able to run the most recent versions of the software, which makes sense given that these architectures were released some years ago and are very different from the current AM5 platform.

Aside from these four changes, AMD mentions some other changes, such as an updated stress test that can be run from the “Apply & Test” or “Curve Optimizer Automatic” options, new memory tuning parameters, visualization of the Data Fabric’s DF P-state in the main interface, the ability to manually adjust the CPU frequency in 5 MHz increments, and expanded configurable limits for PPT, TDC, and EDC when using IRM mode for Precision Boost Overdrive.

Of course, there is support for the new 800-series AM5 chipsets, such as the X870 and B850. Overall, it is not a major update, but it is a much-needed refresh for the current Ryzen ecosystem, and it was long overdue.

Electronic Game Development Company (EGDC), which is a Saudi-based investment, now holds 5.03% stakes in Capcom. The firm bought 26,788,500 shares, becoming a major stakeholder in the Japanese studio.

Why it matters: Saudi Arabian companies have been on a spending spree, first acquiring EA, and now making a significant investment in Capcom.

In a recent report, it was revealed that EGDC now holds a 5.03% stake in Capcom. Now there have been concerns from fans about the Saudi intervention, but the company says this is purely for investment. 

Capcom has been doing really well over the past few years. It is amongst the only studios that have recorded years of profitability in consecutive years, thanks to solid game releases. 

Monster Hunter Wilds was one of the biggest games on Steam last year. Additionally, they’ve kicked off 2026 on a very high note as well, with Resident Evil Requiem already selling over 6 million units.

Major Analysts Consider Xbox Project Helix More of a PC Than a Console

Crimson Desert PR Lead Will Powers recently responded to the ongoing criticism regarding the game. He was quick to shut down criticisms regarding the studio’s marketing efforts, or lack thereof, in the case of consoles.

Will Powers says that the video team is now resting, and that it has already shared gameplay across all three platforms, in addition to console specifications and system requirements. However, as fans in the replies point out, the footage has been primarily limited to PC.

Even on consoles, Pearl Abyss has only shared Crimson Desert gameplay on the PS5 Pro, which showed up fairly recently through analysts at Digital Foundry. At the time of writing, base PS5 and Xbox Series S|X footage is effectively non-existent.

As a reminder, the highly anticipated title launches on March 19, leaving the team with just a few more days to market the console version, if it even intends to do so in the first place.

For now, Crimson Desert is showing a lot of potential on the Steam best-sellers charts and on places like Amazon, so it seems the team doesn’t necessarily need to pursue additional marketing efforts.

Memory Makers Expect Shortages To Last Only Until Late 2028, As They’re Forced To Reconsider Expansion Plans

The crisis is hitting the gaming industry hard, as memory products grow more costly and scarce. Even developers have grown stressed and now plan to focus more on optimization moving forward. Past predictions suggested it may get worse over time and last beyond 2030.

While memory makers are expanding their production chains for immediate demand, a new report claims they’re worried about growing more than necessary in case of a sudden downturn. Samsung expects the immense demand boom to only last until late 2028.

Why it matters: While the gaming industry is worried about a long-lasting memory shortage, it appears manufacturers are planning contingencies for the opposite scenario. They predict a DRAM downturn to hit the global scene in late 2028.

The South Korean-based Daily Chosun reports that Samsung’s internal projections expect the supply chain balance to be restored soon. So, they’re unwilling to overinvest in building new capacity after demand for DRAM in the form of HBM and regular DDR inevitably cools down. 

The current expansion plans for next-generation HBM product lines are already underway, but memory makers are also exploring contingency measures to deal with sudden downturns in the future. 

Additionally, memory makers are no longer considering expanding fab capacity any further than what’s already in motion; shorter and irregular supply cycles have made it harder to accurately figure out production scales and investments.

Decline In Pc Shipments
The ongoing memory crisis is also causing a decline in PC shipments.

The current expansion projects are already expected to stabilize the huge yet predictable AI demand and hyperscaler orders in the future, so adding more fab capacity and investing additional funds could backfire in case the AI bubble bursts. 

On the other hand, conflicts in the Middle East are resulting in a shortage of resources like helium and bromine, which could push the memory crisis to last longer than Samsung’s internal projections.
