Crimson Desert PR Lead Says Gameplay Shown On All Platforms Despite Lack of PS5 And Series S|X Footage

Story Highlight
  • Crimson Desert is being criticized for the lack of base PS5 and Xbox Series S|X before launch.
  • Pearl Abyss has defended itself amid the chaos, stating that all three versions of the game have been shown already.
  • Fans remain concerned about the game, stating that this is not necessarily true and stands out as a huge red flag.

Crimson Desert has become the subject of two major controversies close to its release. First, the game received criticism when Pearl Abyss added Denuvo to the game days before its release.

Crimson Desert is now receiving backlash due to concerns regarding the game’s PS5 and Xbox Series S|X versions, which will not be receiving media coverage before launch. Following these events, the Crimson Desert PR Lead has come forward to defend the team.

Why it matters: Pearl Abyss’ refusal to show console footage continues to raise eyebrows, and it doesn’t help that the team has been unable to justify this decision for those concerned about the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X ports.

Will Powers Responds To Criticism | Image via Twitter

Crimson Desert PR Lead Will Powers recently responded to the ongoing criticism regarding the game. He was quick to shut down criticisms regarding the studio’s marketing efforts, or lack thereof, in the case of consoles.

Will Powers says that the video team is now resting, and that it has already shared gameplay across all three platforms, in addition to console specifications and system requirements. However, as fans in the replies point out, the footage has been primarily limited to PC.

Even on consoles, Pearl Abyss has only shared Crimson Desert gameplay on the PS5 Pro, which showed up fairly recently through analysts at Digital Foundry. At the time of writing, base PS5 and Xbox Series S|X footage is effectively non-existent.

We released specs on all platforms and gameplay on three platforms. Let our video team rest.

-Will Powers

Responding to this statement, many have called out Will Powers for the vague response. Some have also reiterated that the team’s handling of the console versions is a clear red flag.

Crimson Desert Launches In Just Three More Days

As a reminder, the highly anticipated title launches on March 19, leaving the team with just a few more days to market the console version, if it even intends to do so in the first place.

For now, Crimson Desert is showing a lot of potential on the Steam best-sellers charts and on places like Amazon, so it seems the team doesn’t necessarily need to pursue additional marketing efforts.

Memory Makers Expect Shortages To Last Only Until Late 2028, As They’re Forced To Reconsider Expansion Plans

Story Highlight
  • Memory manufacturers are hesitant to expand production lines since the demand boom may end soon.
  • They are thinking about contingency plans in case of a DRAM downturn.
  • The firms are unwilling to expand fab capacity beyond what’s already in motion.

The crisis is hitting the gaming industry hard, as memory products grow more costly and scarce. Even developers have grown stressed and now plan to focus more on optimization moving forward. Past predictions suggested it may get worse over time and last beyond 2030.

While memory makers are expanding their production chains for immediate demand, a new report claims they’re worried about growing more than necessary in case of a sudden downturn. Samsung expects the immense demand boom to only last until late 2028.

Why it matters: While the gaming industry is worried about a long-lasting memory shortage, it appears manufacturers are planning contingencies for the opposite scenario. They predict a DRAM downturn to hit the global scene in late 2028.

The South Korean-based Daily Chosun reports that Samsung’s internal projections expect the supply chain balance to be restored soon. So, they’re unwilling to overinvest in building new capacity after demand for DRAM in the form of HBM and regular DDR inevitably cools down.

The current expansion plans for next-generation HBM product lines are already underway, but memory makers are also exploring contingency measures to deal with sudden downturns in the future.

Additionally, memory makers are no longer considering expanding fab capacity any further than what’s already in motion; shorter and irregular supply cycles have made it harder to accurately figure out production scales and investments.

Decline In Pc Shipments
The ongoing memory crisis is also causing a decline in PC shipments.

The current expansion projects are already expected to stabilize the huge yet predictable AI demand and hyperscaler orders in the future, so adding more fab capacity and investing additional funds could backfire in case the AI bubble bursts.

On the other hand, conflicts in the Middle East are resulting in a shortage of resources like helium and bromine, which could push the memory crisis to last longer than Samsung’s internal projections.

Do you think the ongoing memory crisis is going to end in late 2028, or will the ongoing world conflicts drive up the timeline beyond 2030? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Stressed Devs At GDC Admit Optimization Is Now A Focal Point For Studios Due To Ongoing RAM Crisis

Story Highlight
  • Many developers at GDC claimed that optimization is more important than ever.
  • The current RAM apocalypse is prompting studios to focus on low memory usage.
  • Developers may have to adapt by introducing asset pop-ins and loading screens to compensate.

As AAA games have evolved, reliance on higher-end system resources has been quite apparent. Unfortunately, most of this happened because studios haven’t kept up with game optimization and instead have focused on chasing ‘ultra-realistic’ visuals.

However, a new report shows the current memory crisis had many developers talking about optimization at GDC.

They argue that games can no longer sell well unless they are highly optimized, as many users can’t afford the expensive high-end rigs required for AAA games.

Why it matters: The memory shortage has been devastating for the industry, but it might be having an unintended side effect by making developers more conscious about optimization.

Dell memory DRAM price increase
The memory crisis has made gaming more expensive than ever!

The report by Polygon states that gaming optimization and RAM were a hot topic at the GDC conference this year because the market is more volatile than ever.

I agree, let’s f*cking optimize games! We’ve been letting cool technical work slide for so long. They don’t look that much better!

-Zero Parades writer, Siim Kosmos SinamAe.

There was a constant stress present among industry professionals, as developers can no longer assume gamers will keep up with increasing system requirements at the same pace as before.

If you’re asking people to suddenly pay more for their systems, that’s fewer games than they can purchase. So it does change some of the conversations around how we have to approach our price point.

-Marketing Professional.

Therefore, several developers now want to focus on optimization moving forward. We have already seen tangible effects of this new mindset, with Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight dialing down its recommended memory requirement from 32 GB to 16 GB.

DRAM manufacturers
Memory manufacturers are focusing less on consumers and more on tech giants.

Unfortunately, this also means studios might be forced to introduce asset pop-ins and additional loading screens in games so they use less memory in the future.

Do you think AAA games will become more RAM-optimized and have better performance as the memory crisis worsens, or will this new strategy take the industry nowhere? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

The Wolf Among Us Sequel Set For 2027 Release — Current-Gen Port For The Original Also in The Works

Story Highlight
  • The long-in-development The Wolf Among Us sequel could be set for a 2027 release.
  • A current-gen port for the original game based on Unreal Engine 5 is also in the works.
  • The original game had a critical reception based on the story, characters, and choices.

Telltale Games still holds a massive fan base despite no notable recent releases. One of the most prominent games from the studio was The Wolf Among Us, released in 2013, and its sequel could be coming out next year.

A new report suggests that The Wolf Among Us sequel, which has had a tough development cycle, is now slated for a 2027 release. More importantly, a current-gen port for the original title also appears to be in the works.

Why it matters: The meaningful player choices, compelling characters, the atmospheric noir storyline, and more all made the game a big hit, and the new update and the sequel will open it to a whole new audience.

Wolf Among Us Games
A Wolf Among Us current-gen port and sequel are in the works

MP1st says its sources have confirmed that The Wolf Among Us sequel is planned for a 2027 release. There were concerns that after years of development, it might have been canceled, but it has made it out.

However, while that will be a brand new story, the current-gen version will be something more people will be excited about. The title had episodic releases from 2013 to 2014 and is still considered a classic.

Telltale-style games still have a fan base, and the title will excite many people. The port will likely use Unreal Engine 5, have received technical improvements, and is being handled by the Argentinian studio Trick Studio.

Take this with a grain of salt for now; however, if the report is reliable, we could be hearing about it soon. Since the sequel is said to be set for 2027, we will likely hear about the current-gen port soon.

GTA 6 Marketing Kicks Off With New Trailer In April, Sources Suggest

Story Highlight
  • Multiple sources say GTA 6 will receive new information in April.
  • It is said that these sources belong to the press and the game publishing business.
  • Rockstar Games plans to kick off marketing for the title in the summer, so this new information could be related to a brand new trailer for next month.

GTA 6 has been nowhere to be seen since its second gameplay trailer last year, but Rockstar Games confirmed plans to kick off marketing for the title at some point during summer 2026.

The latest reports are now pointing to a potential new trailer for the game arriving as soon as April 2026.

Why it matters: Rockstar Games’ information always arrives at the most unexpected times. The studio is also expected to go all out for marketing this year.

According to GameRiot, something related to GTA 6 could show up as early as April 2026. Because Take-Two already confirmed marketing for the game would kick off during the summer, it stands to reason that GameRiot’s tweet could be referring to a new trailer.

According to the popular content creator with nearly 2 million YouTube subscribers, multiple sources have pointed to this information. In a separate tweet, he also clarified that this information comes from those in the press and in the publishing business.

Interestingly, TGG, another content creator with around 2 million YouTube subscribers, predicted an April release for the third GTA 6 trailer recently. Both content creators may have received information from similar sources, suggesting plans are in motion behind the scenes.

It should be noted that the very first GTA 6 trailer was also leaked before its official release, so this would not be the first time someone broke the news before Rockstar Games itself.

As is the case with all such rumors, it’s recommended to take this information with a slight pinch of salt. Since April is right around the corner, the validity of these reports should be verified soon enough.

Crimson Desert: Lack of Pre-Launch PS5 and Xbox Series S|X Footage Raises Console Performance Concerns

Story Highlight
  • Crimson Desert has yet to receive any PS5 and Xbox Series S|X footage, and it seems this will remain the case until launch.
  • Many are concerned about the console ports and believe this is a huge red flag from the developers.
  • So far, the game has only been previewed on the PS5 Pro and PC, and the team is said to have a huge day-one patch planned for the other platforms.

Crimson Desert has generated incredible excitement leading up to its March 19 release, with many even considering the possibility that the title could end up as 2026’s 2nd best-seller.

Despite the recently released Resident Evil Requiem, everyone’s attention has now shifted to Crimson Desert. Many also have high hopes for the game’s optimization following the system requirements reveal, but audiences are less optimistic on the console side.

Why it matters: A recent preview of Crimson Desert focused on the PS5 Pro footage, but many were left curious about the base console experience.

Digital Foundry on Base Console Versions | Image via Discord

Pearl Abyss’ marketing efforts for Crimson Desert have focused on the PC port so far. Both the media and public have been shown the PC version, with one exception.

Recently, popular analysts Digital Foundry received the console version of Crimson Desert. However, unlike the traditional process of developers sending over a game code or review copy, Pearl Abyss sent the team a separate PS5 Pro with Crimson Desert already installed.

Over on Discord, the team also noted that it will likely not share base PS5 footage before launch due to the activation server being offline for now. It is also said that the team is preparing a huge day-one patch for the console versions.

On platforms like Reddit, fans have not had the best reaction to this information. Many believe that a developer restricting footage like this is never a good sign, while others pointed out that the team previously promised to share adequate details on the console versions before launch.

Some fans have even compared the team’s secrecy to Cyberpunk 2077’s situation from 2020, stating that the game might be in a poor state on PS5 and Xbox Series S|X.

Crimson Desert
Crimson Desert Has Already Been Wishlisted By 3 Million Steam Users

With just three days left before Crimson Desert arrives, it’s still possible for Pearl Abyss to share official footage of the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X ports in the next few days. However, with each passing day, fan concerns continue to grow, and many can’t help but admit that this is a huge red flag for an otherwise exciting game.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Still Averaging 70K Players on Steam Despite Releasing Nearly 3 Years Ago

Story Highlight
  • Baldur’s Gate is still averaging an impressive 70K players, even 3 years after the launch.
  • Larian’s game was a huge success and among the highest-grossing games of 2023.
  • It also ranks in the top 5 in the list of games with the most GOTY awards ever.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was a huge breakout hit for Larian Studios that broke multiple records and was one of 2023’s highest-grossing games. It even won the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards, and years later, still going strong.

While it’s far from its ridiculously high 875K peak player count, nearly 3 years since launch, Baldur’s Gate 3 is still averaging an impressive 70K players on Steam. It has a huge player base that is dedicated to the title.

Why it matters: The impact of Baldur’s Gate 3 was incredible, single-handedly opening the genre to a whole new audience. It even ranks among the top 5 games with the most game of the year wins ever.

BG3 Players
Larian’s RPG is still averaging an impressive over 70k players on Steam

Even after almost 3 years of its launch, Baldur’s Gate never really dropped too low. It has even hit over 100K players multiple times in the last couple of months, and still averages a healthy 70K players on Steam.

This is a rather impressive feat in an industry that tends to be quite cruel at times. Even some recent dedicated live service games like Marathon don’t boast these numbers despite launching just a few days ago.

Baldur's Gate 3
The title is also one of the most awarded games of all time

So, all in all, Baldur’s Gate 3 was a huge phenomenon that has left a massive mark on the gaming industry. It has booked its place among the greatest games of all time, including The Witcher 3, Elden Ring, and others.

Unfortunately, Larian Entertainment won’t be working on the sequel, so that’s a missed opportunity. However, the good news is that the team has already revealed its next title, Divinity, which will be even more ambitious.

AMD Could Be Set To Launch FSR 4.1 As Files Are Spotted Online

Story Highlight
  • Files for the next iteration of AMD’s upscaling tech, FSR 4, have been spotted online.
  • The version will be called FSR 4.1 and can be downloaded from AMD’s website.
  • The official update could go live soon, probably with the release of Crimson Desert.

Upscaling has become a huge part of optimization in the current gaming scene, with Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR leading the pack. However, FSR still lags behind DLSS, which is generally considered a much superior upscaler.

However, AMD seems to be preparing the next version of its upscaling, FSR 4.1, which would be the company’s first major update to its tech since FSR 4, which was launched nearly a year ago.

Why it matters: DLSS still delivers significantly better visual quality thanks to its tensor cores, image reconstruction, and AI tech. AMD would be hoping it could at least get close to its quality with the upcoming iteration.

AMD FSR 4.1
The next version of AMD’s upscaling, FSR 4.1 spotted online

A Reddit user spotted a new FSR 4.1 DLL file that is available to download from AMD’s official website. The version still isn’t official, so this suggests that a probable launch could soon be happening, in time for Crimson Desert.

Early testers suggest that the version is indeed an improvement and narrows the gap in quality with DLSS 4.5. However, we will have a better idea with thorough testing when the updates officially go live.

AMD’s tech still lags behind DLSS in performance

AMD has been advertising Crimson Desert on its featured games page, which suggests solid integration. Its page says the game supports FSR 3/4 and Frame Generation, and we could finally see FSR 4.1 releasing along with it.

What are your thoughts on AMD getting ready to launch FSR 4.1 soon? What improvements do you expect? Let us know your opinions in the comments or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers Forum

Tech Experts Say the Vast Spec Gap Between Next-Gen Xbox and PS6 May Not Be “That Meaningful”

Story Highlight
  • Digital Foundry says that the spec difference between next-gen Xbox and PS6 isn’t that meaningful.
  • They state that the feature set is similar between these two consoles.
  • Both Project Helix and PS6 will launch in Holiday 2027, with Xbox being priced at a premium range.

Xbox is seemingly taking a different approach with the next-gen console, which is expected to bring the console and PC ecosystems closer together. It’s also important to note that this hardware will be a premium product and will be priced much more expensively than a normal console.

As such, it is naturally expected for Project Helix to be more powerful than the PS6. While that is the case to some extent, tech experts think that despite the power gap between the next-gen Xbox and PS6, the difference in performance won’t be that meaningful.

Why it matters: An unfavorable performance difference and a high price tag aren’t exactly doing Project Helix a favor, especially when Xbox desperately needs to bounce back from rock bottom.

Digital Foundry commented on the rumored specs for Project Helix and the PS6, saying Team Green will have the greater edge, bringing a larger gap than the current generation.

Still, this difference isn’t vast, and as per the tech experts, it won’t “get you a whole lot” aside from also being meaningless.

As for the specs, here’s what Kelper_2 had to share on NeoGAF about what the next-gen Xbox and PS6 will have to offer.

For Magnus it’s ~25% higher TFlops/Tex rate, ~33% higher Front-end BW, Geom rate, Pixel rate plus 140% more LLC and 20% more memory bandwidth.

As for the comment why it is not ‘meaningful,’ Digital Foundry explained that both these consoles will produce the same result, even with different resolutions or quality. The actual thing is that, in terms of feature sets, both consoles are the same, and there is nothing that sets them apart from what we currently know.

PlayStation 5 Vs Xbox Series X
Microsoft And Sony Will Clash Once Again In Holidays 2027

Kelper_2 also seems to share Digital Foundry’s views on this, saying at best the next-gen Xbox could output 60FPS in a game where the PS6 would do 30FPS.

As for the price difference, Project Helix could cost around $900-1200, whereas we expect PS6 to be priced above the range a typical console would launch at, considering the beefier specs in times where hardware has become increasingly expensive.

Silent Hill F Wins Game Of The Year At Japanese Game Awards

Story Highlight
  • Silent Hill F has won Game of the Year at the Famitsu Dengeki Game Awards 2025.
  • The title was voted GOTY by Japanese players and went home with the most wins at the ceremony.
  • Expedition 33, the most awarded title in gaming history, failed to reach the top 10 and languished as the 14th best game of 2025 according to Japanese players.

Since returning to the limelight, the Silent Hill franchise has produced one hit after another. The most recent entry, Silent Hill F, received universal acclaim from critics for being a beautiful addition to the storied IP and carrying on its brutal legacy.

In addition, the 2025 horror game became the fastest-selling title in the series, reaching 1 million sales even quicker than the Silent Hill 2 remake. Now, the NeoBards Entertainment game has reached yet another milestone, winning Game of the Year at a Japanese awards show.

Why it matters: Silent Hill F was a brilliant and much-needed addition to the franchise, which helped it evolve in more than one way. Hence, this GOTY honor is well-deserved.

Silent Hill F
The horror game has become a critical and commercial hit for Konami.

Silent Hill F has been crowned as the 2025 Game of the Year by the Famitsu Dengeki Game Awards. The horror title won the most honors at the awards show, taking home 3 wins, including Best Game Studio and Best Voice Actor

Interestingly, the Famitsu Dengeki Game Awards are entirely user-voted, meaning Silent Hill F is the most acclaimed release of 2025 amongst Japanese players.

Furthermore, the biggest force in this year’s GOTY battle, Expedition 33, didn’t even make the top 10 of the user-voted ranking of last year’s best games. Japanese fans voted the RPG as the 14th best title of 2025, behind the likes of Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Yotei, Mario Kart World, and Monster Hunter Wilds.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Expedition 33 was the 14th-best game of 2025 according to Japanese players.

Therefore, Silent Hill F beat out the most awarded title in gaming history based only on player votes. With new Silent Hill games planned every year, fans will hope the IP’s resurgence continues at this level of success.

Gamer Buys Over $1000 Worth Of PC Hardware For Just $86 In A Massive Pricing Glitch

Story Highlight
  • A gamer purchased over $1,000 of high-end gaming PC hardware for $86.
  • This massive discount was applied due to a pricing glitch on Newegg.
  • The site honored the deal rather than canceling it, earning praise from gamers worldwide.

Online shopping is certainly convenient for multiple reasons, but glitches can slip through the cracks sometimes and allow shoppers to save hundreds of dollars in the process. A gamer got quite lucky and bought costly PC hardware for a mere fraction of the price.

A Newegg shopper discovered a combo discount error on the site while building a new PC, utilizing it to buy over $1000 worth of high-end gaming hardware for a staggering $86 only.

Why it matters: Newegg’s combo pricing error has helped the shopper save over $925 in what would have otherwise been an extremely expensive deal. Many PC enthusiasts have appreciated the site for honoring the deal instead of cancelling it.

The Reddit user u/KTsoFresh ended up saving over $925 while purchasing a Ryzen 5 7600X CPU, a Gigabyte B850M Eagle motherboard, 32GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 RAM, and a 240mm AIO liquid cooler.

The 32 GB memory alone was over $550 due to the ongoing RAM apocalypse, yet the combo discount error basically absorbed all of its price by applying nearly $800 in savings.

The rest of the credits were applied to the other components, while the 7600X came with a free AIO cooler, an $85 value.

Newegg’s response also caught everyone off guard. It reacted honorably with a lighthearted thumbs-up emoji in the Reddit post. Many users argued that other stores would have canceled the deal instead of letting the user bag such a massive discount out of goodwill.

While the combo discount error was short-lived, at least one other user took advantage of it. Unfortunately, they did not specify what products were purchased. The other users are also out of luck now, as the glitch is no longer available to be exploited.

Is this the best PC hardware deal you have ever seen? Can anything else top this amazing discount in your books? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
