Fans Call Starfield The Most Hyped Disappointing Game Of This Generation

Story Highlight
  • The majority of fans say Starfield was the most disappointing game amid hype this generation.
  • The title launched in 2023 and was supposed to be the flagship Xbox that had been missing for a long time.
  • It didn’t have a great reception, with many labeling the game as generic and bland.

Starfield was supposed to be the big comeback for Bethesda after years of not-so-great games. The company launched a massive marketing campaign around the game, even hiring the band Imagine Dragons, but it never gained traction.

Now, fans are claiming that Starfield was one of the most hyped titles of this generation, with the result being disappointing. While there isn’t much wrong with it, it doesn’t do anything extraordinary either.

Why it matters: The hype around Starfield was massive. Xbox fans were looking forward to what should’ve been the biggest flagship title for the company in years, rivaling Sony’s brilliant roster of exclusives.

On a thread on ResetEra, fans were asked to name the most disappointing games of this generation concerning their hype, and Starfield was the number one candidate. This shows how the game fell short of its mark.

Most fans criticize Starfield for not offering anything innovative. It felt more like a generic RPG, but set in space. There were a few cool things like space combat and landing on different planets, but that’s about it.

Starfield
Starfield was supposed to be the next big thing for Xbox

It promised a memorable space adventure but couldn’t deliver on either the story or the overall gameplay. The scope was huge, and a budget of around $400 million, a lot was expected of it, but in the end, the game was just boring and flat.

Bethesda, however, is still supporting Starfield and is even expected to launch the game for PS5 later this year. So, let’s wait and see if the consensus around the game changes then, or if it remains forgettable just a couple of years later.

What are your thoughts on Starfield being the most disappointing game of this generation in terms of hype? Let us know your opinions in the comments or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers forum.

NVIDIA N1 Chips For Handheld Consoles Have Been Delayed Until Late 2026

Story Highlight
  • NVIDIA’s N1 and N1X processors have been delayed and are now expected to be released in late 2026.
  • The delay is due to engineering problems that might require a silicon redesign.
  • These are ARM-based chips for Windows PCs that will feature integrated GeForce RTX graphics.

NVIDIA’s original, highly anticipated processors, the N1X and N1, have reportedly been delayed, with a release date now expected in late 2026. In case you are unaware, NVIDIA will enter the consumer processor, SoC, and APU markets.

This means offering a variety of chips featuring integrated NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics and an Arm-based CPU. The best part of this is that they will include the most powerful ARM CPUs yet seen in a Windows-based PC.

According to SemiAccurate, the N1 is in production, but new engineering difficulties have been identified that threaten to delay the launch date, which would now be the end of 2026.

Why it matters: This new issue could necessitate a modification of the silicon, which would result in a serious setback in production and shipments.

Geekbench NVIDIA N1X

Last month, we saw the performance of the Nvidia N1x in the Geekbench 6. The N1X is a GB10 variant, including 10 Cortex-X925 and 10 Cortex-A725 Arm cores. The N1X superchip has a similar appearance, but its fundamental specs remain undisclosed. It was allegedly an HP workstation with 128 GB of system RAM and Ubuntu 24.04.1 as the operating system.

According to comprehensive information, the N1X achieved 3,096 points in single-core tests and 18,837 points in multicore testing, thanks to a boost clock of around 4 GHz. The base clock is indicated as 2.81 GHz.

Regarding the graphics, there are only pure rumours. With 6,144 CUDA Cores, the iGPU has nearly the same number of cores as an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070, but with significantly lower frequencies.

As a result, its performance is most likely closer to that of a GeForce RTX 5060 Ti than the actual RTX 5070, which would still be impressive for an iGPU even if true. The NVIDIA N1C, on the other hand, would be a better fit for Ultrabooks or a new generation of portable consoles featuring NVIDIA hardware due to its smaller CPU and GPU chips.

1 In 5 Steam Games Released In 2025 Use Generative AI

Story Highlight
  • 1 in 5 Steam games released in 2025 use Generative AI, as per a new report.
  • Almost 7% of the Steam library now has titles utilizing AI, with the number being close to 8,000.
  • Furthermore, the number of titles exploiting AI has risen by 700% on the platform in just one year.

AI is becoming an increasingly sensitive issue in the gaming world with every passing day, especially after many claim that the recent Microsoft layoffs were partly due to an inclination towards the technology. Gaming giants like Sony and Xbox are already utilizing AI to enhance player experiences and reduce costs.

And now, by the looks of it, the industry’s biggest marketplace is also being claimed by AI, with 20% of new Steam games released this year using Generative AI for their development.

Why it matters: The rapid rise in AI utilization is a significant issue in the industry that warrants increased attention.

inZOI Steam AI
InZOI is one of the most popular titles on Steam to incorporate AI.

As per a report from Totally Human Media1 in 5 titles released on the marketplace this year used Generative AI. Most of the games that utilize this technology were made independently, suggesting that developers are using AI to reduce production hours and compensate for workforce shortages.

Furthermore, approximately 7,818 games on Steam currently utilize Generative AI, which accounts for 7% of all titles on the platform, according to the research. Comparatively, only 1,000 games on Steam used Generative AI during development last year, as per Totally Human Media.

Hence, the use of Generative AI has increased by a whopping 700% in just one year, which is a troubling sign for the wider industry. Most of these titles utilize the technology for textures and 2D/3D models, with 60% of developers employing it for this purpose.

Xbox AI Image
After firing thousands, Xbox used an AI Image for a hiring call.

To say that games incorporating AI are a polarizing topic would be an understatement, with major players like Microsoft already cutting jobs to make way for AI, and Xbox using AI tools instead of human developers.

Sony is also utilizing AI to accelerate the development of remasters and identify glitches during the development process. Therefore, whether you like it or not, AI is already in heavy use in the gaming world.

GTA 6 Predicted To Sell 85 Million Copies and Earn $7 Billion In Two Months, Says Investment Firm

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 is expected to sell 85 million copies in just two months, generating $7.6 billion in revenue, according to Konvoy.
  • The game will be priced at $80 for the base version, with premium versions costing more.
  • The development cost will come down to $2 billion, with break-even expected in just 30 days.

In over 50 years of video games, GTA 6 is said to be the biggest launch ever, as more expectations for Rockstar weigh with more than 10 years since the last mainline release.

The publisher has already confirmed a budget of well over $1 billion for the game with a release date of May 26, 2026. With a proper reveal, no other blockades out of the way, and the solidified release date, predictions for the title are already being made.

One investment firm thinks that GTA 6 is expected to make $7.6 billion in revenue in just 2 months of its release.

Why it matters: Most franchises, let alone video games, don’t even see the billion-dollar mark in the entirety of their existence. GTA 6 is expected to achieve that number and beyond in just a few days of its release, showcasing the hype for the title.

Konvoy’s Predictions For GTA 6 On LinkedIn

The managing partner of Konvoy, a video game investment firm, stated that GTA 6 has a budget of $2 billion, which is twice the record of the previous most expensive video game. Rockstar previously said that their development cost exceeded $1 billion, but they never specified the actual amount.

GTA 6 is also expected to be priced at $80, which is a relief for gamers, as most publishers expected a $100 price for them to have an excuse to raise game prices. More versions at a higher cost will be available, though.

The game is expected to reach break-even in just 30 days, with an additional $4.6 billion in revenue in the next 30 days. This suggests that GTA 6’s total revenue could exceed $10 billion in less than a year.

While pre-orders haven’t opened yet, the firm estimated 10 million sales in just pre-orders. Over 15 million sales are also expected on day one of its release, with more following soon. Overall, estimated sales reach a whopping 85 million.

Just for reference, Battlefield has sold almost 88 million copies in the 20+ years of its existence, spanning multiple entries. GTA 6 is said to conquer this achievement in just two months.

Fans No Longer Willing To Buy PlayStation Consoles For Exclusives Alone, Reveals Major Poll

Story Highlight
  • A major poll reveals that nearly 60% of fans are no longer interested in buying PlayStation hardware solely for its exclusives.
  • Many say that the current slate of first-party offerings from the company is weaker than it used to be.
  • PlayStation’s focus on third-party releases also detracts from the console experience.

PlayStation has long been known for having some of the gaming industry’s best exclusives. This is still an ongoing trend, with the likes of God of War, Spider-Man, and Astro Bot leading the lineup this generation’s critical and commercial reception.

However, compared to the past generations, PlayStation’s latest exclusive lineup has become a bit too stale for players’ tastes. Perhaps this is why many fans say they no longer feel compelled to buy a PlayStation console purely for the exclusives.

Why it matters: Although Sony has placed a greater emphasis on third-party platforms this generation, the company still values its first-party teams and their output.

PlayStation’s First-Party Lineup Needs Newer IPs

The poll, which was conducted on Neogaf recently, highlights the growing disappointment with Sony’s first-party IPs.

Although the first-party games continue to boast a high level of quality, many believe PlayStation is playing it too safe this generation. The same sentiment was echoed throughout the community when Ghost of Yotei’s latest gameplay was revealed.

Over 60% of the respondents state that Sony’s first-party titles alone would not be enough for them to buy a new console. One reason for this answer may be the fact that general audiences are now used to regular PC ports from PlayStation.

However, users argue that even if PC ports were to become rarer, this would not be enough to prompt a PlayStation purchase.

Some Fans Are Less Excited About Ghost of Yotei Than They Expected

In contrast, Nintendo’s focus on exclusivity seems to be bringing the same results it always has. The Nintendo Switch 2’s latest exclusive release also marks the return of 3D Donkey Kong after multiple years.

Anyhow, it will be interesting to see where all the gaming giants stand with exclusivity a few years from now.

What do you think about PlayStation’s current slate of exclusives? Do you still enjoy the gaming giant’s first-party offerings? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Deviation Games Cancelled PS5 Shooter Project Concept Art Appears Online

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation has cancelled a lot of live service titles, and Deviation Games’ multiplayer sci-fi shooter was among them.
  • The studio was closed last year, but the concept art of its cancelled game has appeared online.
  • The images confirm that the new IP was a sci-fi, and it featured a lot of guns.

PlayStation hasn’t been very successful with the live service genre, as you can see what happened with Concord. The game was said to have cost $400 million to develop, and it was a total failure.

However, it wasn’t the only one that ended up being a failure. The gaming giant planned 12 live service titles, among which eight have already been cancelled. One of those eight titles was the shooter title from Deviation Games, whose concept art has appeared online

Why it matters: PlayStation has cancelled many live service games, but still doesn’t intend to back down and focus on just the single-player titles where it excels. This caused the gaming giant to lose a ton of money.

For those not in the know, Deviation Games was a new studio that was formed in 2020 by Call of Duty veterans. Just a year after founding the studio, it was announced that the developer was working on a PS5 exclusive game.

However, two years after the announcement, one of the insiders confirmed that the project had been cancelled by PlayStation. Now, as you may already be aware, last year, due to layoffs, Deviation Games was shut down, confirming that the game was indeed cancelled.

Some images from an artist’s portfolio who worked at the Deviation Games have been discovered. There is also a 2020 stamp on one of the files, so it would be fair to assume that these were early conceptual arts of the game

The images reveal that the game was set in a futuristic sci-fi theme, which makes sense given there were a few rumours regarding that too. Also, the majority of the images are just about the weapons that include pistols, rifles, and hand equipment named as Power Glove.

It should be noted that no official information regarding the game was revealed by the studio. Still, there were rumours that it would have been a multiplayer shooter, which would be a fair assumption as it was being developed by COD veterans.

Xbox Devs Reportedly Replaced By AI Tools They Helped Make

Story Highlight
  • Xbox’s latest round of layoffs led to around 200 job cuts at one major studio.
  • AI is said to be responsible for many of these layoffs, with level designers and writers who trained the AI now being replaced by the same technology.
  • Such instances might become even more common as AI technology continues to improve.

Microsoft’s latest layoffs have led to thousands of job cuts, and artificial intelligence has been blamed for many of the job cuts.

A new report outlines how one particular Xbox studio has suffered at the hands of AI. According to sources, Xbox developer King is set to lose around 200 developers due to artificial intelligence.

Why it matters: AI was long considered a threat to jobs across various industries, and such examples show why many were concerned about the mainstream use of this technology.

King Is A Major Source of Revenue For Xbox

As reported by Mobile Gamer, King, the studio behind Candy Crush, is set to let go of hundreds of developers following the latest Microsoft job cuts.

It is said that AI tools are responsible for the job cuts, but this is not the most shocking part about the report. Mobile Gamer says that these tools were built by the same developers who are now being laid off.

According to the report, level designers, narrative writers, and researchers who spent years training the AI tools have been hit hard by the layoffs. The initial plan was to use AI to help the level designers craft levels quicker, but it seems the plans have now backfired.

Moreover, the copywriting team is being replaced completely. It is said that morale at the studio is at an all-time low due to the layoffs, creating dissatisfaction and tension within the King team.

Unfortunately, such instances might continue to become more popular moving forward.

Microsoft, among other companies, has invested billions of dollars into AI research. The gaming giant has already embraced an AI-focused future, so employees might have to plan ahead to ensure they don’t end up facing the same fate as King’s developers.

In-Game Ads For Console And PC Games Being Planned, Says Insider

Story Highlight
  • An insider has stated that the industry is exploring ads for console and PC games.
  • This seems to be a response to the increasing number of players engaging only with free-to-play titles like Fortnite.
  • Previously, publishers like EA have also discussed the inclusion of ads in premium releases.

Games continue to grow in popularity with each passing year, but companies like Xbox and PlayStation are still struggling in the current era.

Between layoffs, game cancellations, and internal delays, all gaming giants are struggling with profitability and revenue, and one insider notes that the future of the industry may be based on in-game ads.

Why it matters: In-game ads are currently featured primarily across mobile games of all types, and players have voiced their concerns about the model frequently.

According to reliable insider Jez Corden, the number of users interacting less and less with payments and transactions on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo consoles is growing each year.

Effectively, this type of gamer prefers to engage with free-to-play titles like Fortnite, spending next to no actual money on the platform. This means that while the number of players is constantly on the rise, platforms like PlayStation and Xbox don’t always have a lot to gain from the increase in player base.

Jez Corden noted that the industry is currently testing in-game ads as a solution to this problem. He pointed to games like Fortnite and Roblox as potential targets for this monetization method, mimicking the strategy of the mobile games industry.

Don’t be surprised if you start seeing ads in games like Fortnite or Roblox. That’s something the industry is looking at next.

Ads in Video Games
Ads in Games Could Be Very Controversial

In the past, publishers like EA have pointed to a potential ad-based future for gaming. Analysts have also discussed the possibility of ads making their way into mainstream console and PC games as early as 2025.

On the other hand, Valve seems to be dismissive of this idea. However, it typically takes one publisher to set the trend in the industry, as evident by the new standard of $80 AAA titles.

G.SKILL Breaks DDR5 Overclocking World Record with DDR5-12872 Frequency

[Press Release] G.SKILL has set a new world record for DDR5 memory frequency, reaching DDR5-12872 with a single 24GB Trident Z5 module. This record was achieved by French overclocker bl4ckdot using SK hynix ICs, an ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 Apex motherboard, and an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K processor under liquid nitrogen cooling.

The result is verified by HWBOT and CPU-Z, confirming it as the highest DDR5 frequency ever recorded. This feat highlights the quality of G.SKILL’s Trident Z5 series and the ongoing improvements in DDR5 technology.

The combination of top-tier components and extreme cooling pushed the limits of what’s possible in memory performance.

‘A Future Has Been Stolen From Many of Us,’ Say Xbox Devs Amid Recent Cancellations

Story Highlight
  • Xbox’s recently cancelled games included a brand new MMORPG from ZeniMax Online Studios.
  • Developers from the ZeniMax Online Studios union criticized Microsoft and Xbox for this cancellation.
  • They also believe that even more layoffs might be inevitable, but the union can help soften the blow should this happen in the future.

Xbox’s recent layoffs led to the cancellations of multiple big projects, including Perfect Dark and Zenimax Online Studios’ unannounced MMO. On the subject of the latter, it was said that Phil Spencer had played the game months ahead of the announcement.

The Xbox boss reportedly liked the game a lot, but this did not save the project. Following these events, the ZeniMax Online Studios union has issued an official statement lamenting the loss of its latest project.

Why it matters: Xbox has become synonymous with layoffs and cancellations, creating a tense environment within the company, with many developers being unhappy with the management’s decision.

ZeniMax Online Studios Union
ZeniMax Online Studios Union Statement On Recent Xbox Layoffs And Cancellations

Pointing to the unannounced game, the union referred to this cancelled project as an ‘amazing game’ that fans of the studio will never get to experience.

The statement also discussed the aftermath of the scenario, stating that a future has been stolen from many of the developers. Fortunately, this particular studio has not been hit hard by layoffs.

Unlike teams like Halo Studios and Turn 10, which reportedly faced mass job cuts recently, ZeniMax Online Studios continues to operate at full capacity. This may be partly due to the studio’s impressive work on The Elder Scrolls Online in recent years, but the union did note that layoffs in the future are inevitable.

A future has been stolen from many of us and our community will never experience an amazing game.

The Elder Scrolls Online Has Been Going Strong For A Decade

Adding to the discontent regarding the layoffs, Xbox was recently spotted using an AI image to hire a graphic designer. Such moves mean that the ZeniMax Online Studios union will prove crucial in safeguarding worker rights in the future.

Microsoft is already heavily invested in AI, and this technology poses a major threat to workers around the globe. Therefore, more unions attempting to safeguard rights could also be formed within the company moving forward.

What do you think about ZeniMax Online Studios’ statement? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

ZeniMax Online Axed Their MMORPG To Free Resources For Fallout 5, Which Is Now Greenlit

Story Highlight
  • ZeniMax Online’s MMORPG is said to be shelved to divert resources towards Fallout 5.
  • Fallout 5 is fully greenlit and might not be developed under Bethesda.
  • Multiple entries in the franchise are being made, including a potential Fallout 3 Remaster, as per reports.

Earlier this month, we saw massive changes under Microsoft that severely impacted Xbox, resulting in a mass wave of layoffs and project cancellations. The MMORPG codenamed project ‘Blackbird’ was supposed to be a Destiny-esque shooter under development for more than 7 years before being axed.

Despite looking ambitious enough that Xbox execs had to pull the controller from Phil Spencer’s hands while playing the game, Blackbird’s security wasn’t guaranteed. Now, a new report has emerged stating that the title was cancelled to free up resources for the upcoming Fallout 5, which has been fully greenlit.

Why it matters: Cancelling an ambitious title this late into development would never be feasible under any conditions. Microsoft should’ve taken the project to the end, especially if they spent over 7 years and potentially millions of dollars on it.

As stated by Jez Corden in the latest Xbox Two Podcast, Blackbird was doing really well before its cancellation. According to Jez, MMOs are pretty expensive to make, and their competition eventually led to Blackbird being shelved.

Going back to the topic at hand, Fallout 5 might not also be under development at Bethesda. The team is currently working on The Elder Scrolls 6, so they don’t have any room for another project.

While Obsidian Entertainment may be another worthy developer, their hands are also full with other projects. As such, Xbox may find another studio or form one for the next Fallout game.

The Elder Scrolls 5
Former Bethesda Dev Voices His Concerns About The Elder Scrolls 6

Moreover, Fallout 5 isn’t the only game in the franchise underway. Previous reports have hinted at multiple Fallout games under development, including a potential Fallout 3 Remaster, although it may be a while until we learn more about these games.

Similar to Oblivion Remastered, a Fallout 3 Remaster will keep fans satisfied till Fallout 5 is developed, which isn’t expected till five more years or till The Elder Scrolls 6 drops.
